Tanya Stephan is a BAFTA and multi-award winning British documentary director. She is best known for her feature length film 'The Missing Children' (2021) which won the BAFTA Specialist Factual Award (2022), The Grierson British Documentary Award for Best History Documentary, and the Royal Television Society TV Journalism Award for Best Documentary Current Affairs International. Her films seek out the compelling human stories behind the headlines. In 2023 she directed 'Ukraine's War Diaries' collaborating with five Ukrainians for a year to capture the reality of life on the front line and in cities under attack. The film was broadcast to mark the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on BBC One. She has also directed high profile documentaries about mental health (Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum, ITV), institutions in crisis (Signed Sealed Delivered: Inside the Post Office, BBC2), the lives of two girls in one of Britain's first state funded Muslim faith schools ('Muslim School' Channel 4) and the unprecedented story of an anonymous egg donor finding and meeting her biological children (Donor Mum, BBC One). She trained in Documentary Directing at the National Film & TV School and has directed over 15 series and single documentaries for British and International TV.
