Marjane Satrapi’s English-language debut The Voices premiered at Sundance last year and is gearing up for release in the U.S. via Lionsgate and in the UK via Arrow Films (see trailer above). Ryan Reynolds plays a lovable, but disturbed, factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden turn, the man’s talking pets — a sinister cat and benevolent dog — lead him down a fantastical, murderous path. Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, and Jacki Weaver co-star. Michael R Perry wrote the script and Matthew Rhodes, Adi Shankar, Roy Lee and Spencer Silna produced. Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud’s Persepolis was nominated for an Animated Feature Oscar in 2008. Lionsgate unleashes The Voices in theaters and on demand on February 6, Arrow takes it out on March 20.

A Walk Among the Tombstones, starring Liam Neeson (Non-Stop, The Grey, Taken series) and Dan Stevens (The Guest, “Downton Abbey”) debuts on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD on January 13, 2015 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Based on Lawrence Block’s best-selling series of mystery novels and directed and written by Academy Award-nominated writer Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Minority Report, The Wolverine), A Walk Among the Tombstones is produced by Jersey Films’ Danny DeVito.
In this intense thriller, Liam Neeson plays Matt Scudder, an ex-nypd cop turned unlicensed private investigator who reluctantly agrees to help a drug trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who brutally murdered his wife. When the Pi learns that this is not the first time that these men have committed this sort of twisted crime — nor will it be the last — he must blur the line between right and wrong as he races to track the...

"The Guest" and "You're Next" director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett are reportedly nearing a deal to work in the same capacities on an English-language remake of the 2010 South Korean serial killer thriller "I Saw the Devil" for Snoot Entertainment.
The character-driven revenge story follows an elite special agent (Lee Byung-hun) whose pregnant fiance is murdered by an evil madman (Choi Min-sik). This prompts him to lure the killer out and into an increasingly violent and twisted game of cat-and-mouse.
Unlike most films of the genre, there's no whodunit aspect and the good guy is rarely in danger. Instead, he's the one that's continually taunting and effectively torturing an increasingly desperate killer.
Adi Shankar, Spencer Silna, Keith Calder and Jessica Calder will produce.

Last December, we heard that producers Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna had picked up English-language rights to Kim Ji-woon’s cult thriller I Saw The Devil, with intentions to mount an American redo, and now that project is coming together with director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, the wildly talented duo behind You’re Next and The Guest.
The pair, whose past efforts have earned them a significant fan following, will both write and direct the remake, and reports indicate that they’ve been quietly working on the project for some time. Wingard has starting meeting with actors, while Barrett is apparently deep into scripting.
Keith Calder, who is producing the project with Snoot Entertainment, confirmed the news via Twitter:

While Park Chan-wook’s English language debut Stoker was greeted with an icy reception at the beginning of 2013, it’s gone on to simmer in a few minds, making more than a few year end “Best Of” lists (which is more than can be said for Spike Lee’s remake of Chan-wook’s Oldboy). That said, at the end of 2012, news stories broke that Chan-wook was committed to two new projects, The Brigands of Rattelborg and Corsica 72. While it was expected that the latter title would lense first, we’ve heard zilch on either, but we’re hoping that something has gone on behind the scenes, especially considering this was penned by the writers of Skyfall.

Sure, Ryan Reynolds turned in a riveting performance in 2010’s Buried, but his casting in Marjane Satrapi’s English language debut may feel a bit dubious, but an oddly mixed supporting cast, consisting of Jackie Weaver, Gemma Arterton, and Anna Kendrick, seems hopeful. We’re thinking screenwriter Michael R. Needless to say, The Voices is for some an intriguing end product, especially since Satrapi brought her regular editor, Stephane Roche along, as well as cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (who...

The Voices marks the Oscar-nominated Marjane Satrapi’s first film to be fully in the English language, making its debut out at Sundance over the weekend.
Ryan Reynolds leads a great cast in the comedy crime-thriller, and its genre blend combined with its synopsis below is enough to pique our interest. Following its bow out in Park City, the first teaser poster has launched over on Collider, giving us a tease of the murderous and comedic acts to come.
Jerry is a seemingly normal man trying to succeed in his new job at the Milton Bathtub Factory. He lives in a normal apartment—the type you would expect from a young bachelor—with his dog, Bosco, and his cat, Mr. Whiskers. Yet something seems off. As the new guy at work, Jerry is asked to help plan the company picnic, and he meets Fiona, an attractive English girl from accounting.

Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake didn't perform well in theaters, which is why it comes as a bit of a surprise that "The Grey" producers Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna are now developing an English-language remake of the Korean revenge thriller "I Saw the Devil." In the 2010 original, Choi Min-sik (Oldboy) plays Kyung-chul, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. The embodiment of pure evil, he has committed horrifying and senselessly cruel serial murders on defenseless victims, successfully eluding capture by the police. His latest victim is the beautiful Ju-yeon, pregnant fiancee of elite special agent Soo-hyun (Lee Byung-hyun). Obsessed with revenge, Soo-hyun decides to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind. The lines between good and evil fall away in this diabolically twisted game of cat and mouse.

I can't believe that after Spike Lee's weak sauce remake of Oldboy someone is actually going to attempt to remake Kim Jee Woon's insane revenge film I Saw The Devil. Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors has acquired the rights to the 2010 South Korean movie and will give it an English language remake. Shankar has this to say in a statement,
"Kim Jee Woon's I Saw the Devil is perfect in so many ways. The intention is not to remake the film per say but rather to 'port' it console style for international audiences."
Well, that would be called remaking the movie, and there's no way they will do the original film justice. My only hope for this remake is that by making it, it will spark interest in people to take time to watch the original. That's the only positive thing I can...

After Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy bombed at the box office and hasn't received much praise from critics, you would think producers would shy away from English-language remakes of critically praised foreign films for a little while. However, Dredd and The Grey producer Adi Shankar, along with Spencer Silna and the duo's 1984 Private Defense Contractors production banner, have just acquired the English language remake rights to I Saw the Devil, the 2010 South Korean thriller from director Kim Jee Woon (The Good, the Bad, the Weird, The Last Stand). So there's something we can lament in the future. Shankar says (via ComingSoon): "Kim Jee Woon's 'I Saw the Devil' is perfect in so many ways. The intention is not to remake the film per say but rather to 'port' it console style for international audiences." That sounds even worse than remaking the film as its own unique entity.

Apparently Hollywood hasn’t quite learned from the disaster that was Spike Lee’s “Oldboy” remake, where an international foreign hit with a cult following is needlessly remade by a Hollywood studio, only to fall on its face and never be seen again. Don’t tell producers Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna that, though. The duo have snatched up remake rights to director Kim Jee-Woon’s serial killer flick “I Saw the Devil”, setting the project up at their 1984 Private Defense Contractors shingle. The 2010 original starred Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow from the “G.I. Joe” movies) as a man who plots and then captures the serial killer (played by Choi Min-sik, who starred in the original “Oldboy”, natch) who murdered his wife. He then begins torturing the crap out of him. It’s a vicious and violent movie, where there are no real heroes, and it has since become a...

Hollywood remaking foreign-language films isn’t anything new, and countries as diverse as France, Japan, and Iceland have all seen their movies adapted, for better or worse, through an American lens. South Korea is a relatively new inductee into the bunch with only a handful of their films getting the Hollywood treatment leading up to this year’s much maligned Spike Lee redo of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy. 2006′s The Lake House was the first U.S. remake of a Korean film (based on Il Mare), and it was followed by a forgettable romantic comedy (My Sassy Girl) and a trio of horror films including Mirrors (Into the Mirror), The Uninvited (A Tale of Two Sisters), and Possession (Addicted). And that’s it… for now. Per The Wrap, the latest Korean film to be slated for Hollywood reincarnation is Kim Jee-woon‘s brutally uncompromising and wickedly good I Saw the Devil (my review). Remake rights have been...

Although Spike Lee’s remake of the Korean cult classic Oldboy proved completely dead on arrival at the box-office last month, that’s not enough to stop producers Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna (of 1984 Private Defense Contractors) from moving forward with another American take on a well-received Korean revenge thriller. The producers, who previously worked together on Liam Neeson action drama The Grey and Mark Wahlberg crime thriller Broken City, just picked up English-language rights to Kim Ji-woon’s 2010 brutal thriller I Saw the Devil.
The original film, which starred Choi Min-sik as a ruthless serial killer and Lee Byung-hun as the infuriated fiance of one of his victims, received positive reviews despite its gory and disturbing content. It’s pitch-black material and, while I enjoyed the film, it’s certainly not the first Korean film I’d pick to be remade for American audiences.

The more buzz a movie gets, the more people go to see it. When you see a couple shots in a row that you have preferred to see first in the full feature, that’s the goal of buzz.
An international trailer for writer/director Andrew Dominik‘s hard-boiled crime tale Killing Them Softly is short to the point.
Brad Pitt, who stars as hitman Jackie Cogan, recently discussed how Dominik chose to approach the film:
Well, what Andrew wanted to do with this film was interesting: He wanted to talk about America—and America as a business—but he wanted to hide it within this low-end crime drama. We in America have some grand ideals—and some very strong ideals—but a lot of times, those ideals are used for marketing.
The tough, tight crime thriller also stars Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Scoot McNairy, and Ben Mendelsohn.

"Oldboy" helmer Park Chan-wook is set to direct the period crime drama "Corsica 72" for 1984 Private Defense Contractors and Ruby Films says Variety.
The true story tale follows two best friends who live on the small island of Corsica where they choose different paths in life - one as an honest working man, the other as a gangster - and feud over a woman who comes between them.
Oliver Hirschbiegel ("Downfall") and Luca Guadagnino ("I Am Love") were previously linked as directors, while actors like Andrew Garfield and Gemma Arterton have been mentioned in conjunction with earlier incarnations.
Frequent Bond film scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are penning the script and producing alongside Adi Shankar, Spencer Silna, Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits.
Park is expected to helm this before he goes to work on S. Craig Zahler's ultraviolet western "The Brigands of Rattleborge" which needs to secure a major star.

Described as both a blackly humorous gangster film and a gritty crime drama, Killing Them Softly is also said to have both, heavy political and societal undertones.
The film received mixed early reviews after it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, but fans will get their own chance to at least form their own opinion.
Well, the creative marketing team at Weinstein Company have released a stunning poster for this modern-times rework of George V. Higgins’ 1974 novel ‘Cogan’s Trade’ (earlier teaser poster featured a stylized gun as part of a face).
Directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James), Brad Pitt (featuring in slicked-back hair, leather coat and a shotgun in hand) stars as Jackie Cogan, a well-worn enforcer who finds himself in Boston with a mission to kill small-time crooks.
When asked whether the violence bothered him, the highly lauded Pitt said:

Fresh from Cannes, Killing Them Softly has released a couple of new clips, and a teaser website. The mob robbery film starring Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, and Richard Jenkins, and based on Cogan’s Trade, revolves around three less than brilliant guys who decide to rob a mob poker game.
I’ve heard good things about the film from Cannes, and who doesn’t love a good ‘mob meets morons’ film? Mostly, I’m interested to see Richard Jenkins fit his character into this fiasco tale.
Take a look at the clips below, and check out the teaser site for the film – http://killingthemsoftlymovie.com/
