You've seen those Action Movie Kid videos, right? DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto utilized his skills with visual effects to turn some home movies featuring his young son, James, into cool VFX-filled clips involving rockets, explosions, lasers, and more. We've written about them a bunch of times on the site (here, here, here, and here).
Hashimoto co-wrote an Action Movie Kid book last year, and now THR reports that writer Andrew Dodge has been hired by Fox 2000 to write a screenplay based on the popular YouTube videos in an attempt to turn the concept into a full-length feature film. Dodge is best known for having written the Jason Bateman comedy Bad Words, but he also penned the screenplay for O'Lucky Day, an upcoming R-rated film starring Peter Dinklage as a guy who may or may not be a real leprechaun. The book is a pretty straightforward adaptation of the videos, centering on young James,...

DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto and his son James (better known as "Action Movie Kid") are back in a new series of clips. If you haven't seen any of these videos before, we've highlighted them a couple of times on the site here and here. The basic idea is that Hashimoto puts videos of him and his son in After Effects and adds explosions, robots, lasers, and all kinds of other cool stuff to ordinary situations. James is a lucky little dude - most of us have scrapbooks and old home videos to remind us of our youth, but he'll have these awesome videos to look back on when he gets older. Check out his latest series of adventures below.

Back in the spring when we focused on the young boy who had been dubbed Action Movie Kid, based on the fun, short videos that his father, a former DreamWorks animator named Daniel Hashimoto, made with visual effects to create some pretty unique home movies. Now Action Movie Kid is back in another quick series of adventures, and this time they're all collected into a single video for your enjoyment. Honestly, these little wacky snippets are more entertaining and satisfying than some of the blockbusters that hit theaters this summer. But hey, this could very well spark a new kind of kids adventure film. Watch! Here's Action Movie Kid - Volume II, brought to our attention by Movies.com: There's some good work here for not really having any kind of budget. Many Hollywood films have millions of dollars thrown at them and don't have special effects this good. Anyway,...

When we first met Action Movie Kid back in March, he was destroying toy stores with a lightsaber and firing grappling guns out of his living room. Of course he wasn't actually doing these things -- see, his dad, Daniel Hashimoto, is an animator and special effects wizard who's managed to turn his son's ordinary home movies into epic action scenes. If only all our home movies were as exciting and entertaining as these. Thanksgiving dinner at your grandma's house would never be the same! Just in time to finish off the summer movie season with a little badass cherry on top, Action Movie Kid has returned in Action Movie Kid Volume II, which you can watch below. Naturally the sequel is bigger and better and more explosive than ever, as our favorite pint-sized action...

Action Movie Kid is back and kicking ass in a new volume of adventures created by DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto, and his son James. It's cool to have a dad that knows how to play around with special effects. My dad was the same way, but it was more of the old-school practical effects stuff because computers weren't as awesome back then.
There's a lot of really fun stuff included in the video below that you're all going to enjoy. In case you missed the first video click here to check it out!

Remember Action Movie Kid, also known as the adorable little boy whose dad turned his everyday, average toddler happenings into epic film adventures? If you don't remember, here is a refresher. And if you do remember, then go back and watch the videos anyway because they are awesome. The Internet isn't the only one who fell in love with Action Movie Kid (by day his name is James), because now Hollywood has come calling and he and his dad Daniel Hashimoto are now starring in their very own commercial for the 2015 Toyota Sienna, and we have the very first exclusive look at it. Spoiler warning: it's really freakin' cute. And it takes place in space. What more do you want out of your commercials?! Yeah,...

Would it be creepy if we asked this guy to adopt us? Probably. But still, if the dad is reading us, we'd make great children. We're clean, we don't mouth off and we hardly ever throw tantrums. Email us! We want to be superheroes, too! Daniel Hashimoto, an After Effects artist for DreamWorks (the people behind Kung Fu Panda and the Shrek series), uses his talent and video skills to edit videos of his kid, three-year-old James. And the results are mind-blowingly awesome. We are officially super jealous of a three-year-old. "I made them mostly because he is really funny and imaginative. James doesn't watch TV or movies very much. We play tons of games with him throughout the day," Daniel told NY...

Plenty of kids have their parents posting adorable videos of their kids all over Facebook, whether they're singing, being funny, reading, or doing something amazing that everyone has to see. But DreamWorks Animation animator Daniel Hashimoto wanted to give his kid something to remember, so he's taken some really short videos of his son playing around at home and at the toy store, and turned them into mini-action movies. His son James is like an adorably clueless superhero, shooting big guns and waving around lightsabers all willy-nilly. I wish my parents were animators to make videos of me doing this now. Here's Daniel Hashimoto's videos of his son James, or as he's known online, Action Movie Kid: Thanks to Huffington Post for pointing out these awesome videos. You can see more at Daniel Hashimoto's YouTube channel ActionMovieKid. This is just awesome. It's like a kid's imagination come to life.

What happens when your dad is an animator at DreamWorks, working on movies like Kung Fu Panda 2 and How to Train Your Dragon? Well, if you're the son of Daniel Hashimoto, it means many of your everyday activities are going to be turned into epic mini action movies. Hashimoto's son, who goes by the title Action Movie Kid on YouTube, has invaded the Internet with a host of videos that primarily feature him using his imagination to play with toys as any kid does. What makes the videos special is that his father then adds the perfect effects to accompany each home video so that it appears as if his son's imagination has come to life. So if Action Movie Kid is hanging out in the aisles of Toys 'R' Us waving around a fake lightsaber, his...

Having a DreamWorks animator for a dad must be pretty cool. Especially when that dad is creative enough to turn his toddler's playtime into mini-action movies, complete with light sabers that destroy toy store shelves, a grapple gun that gets you stuck on the ceiling, and a building block hyperdrive that crashes out the window. Watch all the adorableness, below. The animator in question is Daniel Hashimoto (who's worked on "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "How to Train Your Dragon"), and whose son goes by Action Movie Kid on Twitter. Expect his followers to go up at the speed of light.

There's nothing that puts a smile on our faces more than awesome parents who use their creativity to bring a whole lot of magic into the childhoods of their children, and in the past we've seen a dad make his infant daughter an Aliens Power Loader costume, a mom hand-make her son a Diy Jason Voorhees doll and one highly creative couple even brought their kids' dinosaur toys to life while they slept, for an epic series of photos. If you enjoyed those stories, then you're gonna love this one!
As we spotted over on The Huffington Post, Dreamworks animator Daniel Hashimoto utilizes his movie magic skills not just at work but also in his downtime, particularly when he's hanging out with his 3-year-old son James. Though James looks like an ordinary toddler at first glance, he's actually a pretty badass superhero, as his dad uses those animation skills to...

Here's an incredibly fun series of videos featuring a dad filming his son doing some extraordinary action hero type things. The series is called Action Movie Kid, and it comes from DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto, and his son James. Hashimoto used After Effects to create the movie magic, and this is what he said to The Creators Project about the inspiration for the idea,
"Upon viewing the lightsaber and Iron Man videos. My son replied, 'Why if I did that for real-sies, Dad?'"
These videos are adorably cool, and I have no doubt that you're going to like what you see.

Daniel Hashimoto is shaping his 3 year-old son James into one of YouTube's favorite action stars. Hashimoto is the special effects wizard behind Action Movie Kid, a YouTube channel that turns James into a toddler superhero. Hashimoto, who works as an animator for DreamWorks, posted the first Action Movie Kid video on February 18th, 2014. In that debut, James sits frozen on the couch while the camera zooms around him, with Matrix-style lines of code disrupting the picture. Since then, Hashimoto has churned out fourteen more episodes, none longer than 16 seconds. Since he became the Action Movie Kid, James has emulated heroes like Luke Skywalker, Tony Stark, and, most recently, Batman. For anyone worried about Hashimoto exploiting his son in the name of YouTube glory, take note that James seems to be very excited about his role as the Action Movie Kid. "Upon viewing the lightsaber and Iron Man videos," Hashimoto told Vice,...
