While Greta Gerwig’s directing career skyrocketed with Barbie, it shouldn’t be overlooked that the screenplay for the year’s biggest movie was co-written by Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach. Baumbach would also produce the film alongside Gerwig and Barbie star Margot Robbie. Baumbach’s career with Netflix consists of three features in addition to Marriage Story, including White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories, starring Adam Sandler.
Baumbach is now tapped to helm his fourth project with the streamer. He’ll be reuniting with Sandler and pairing him with George Clooney for the new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The details for the movie’s plot has yet to be revealed, but Baumbach is also on board as a producer on the movie. He will be joined by Sony’s Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers. Heyman had also worked with Baumbach on Marriage Story and also produced Barbie.

Adam Sandler has a new all-time best-reviewed movie.
The actor-comedian’s latest Netflix title, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, has managed to draw a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than any of his previous films across 34 years of making movies.
The teen comedy — which began streaming Friday — has a 96 percent “Fresh” score on the site.
That just edges out 2022’s Hustle (93 percent), 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories (92 percent) and 2019’s Uncut Gems (91 percent). Having said that, there’s always the possibility that additional negative reviews for Bat Mitzvah could alter the standings later in the week.
Sandler has a relatively minor role in the Bat Mitzvah, but he produced the film and it stars his teenage daughters, Sunny and Sadie, with Sandler playing their father.
The Hollywood Reporter’s was among the rave reviews, saying “the rampant nepotism on display has resulted in a sweet, amusing film geared toward younger audiences,...

Adam Sandler’s latest Netflix comedy is a true family affair.
You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah stars Sandler’s teenage daughters Sunny and Sadie, with Sandler playing their father.
Based on the young adult novel by Fiona Rosenbloom, the official description reads: “Lifelong best friends Stacy (Sunny Sandler) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine) have long dreamt of epic bat mitzvahs but when popular boy Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman) and Hebrew school drama come between them, their perfect plans go comically awry.”
The film is directed by Sammi Cohen (Crush) with a screenplay by Alison Peck, produced by Happy Madison and Alloy Entertainment, and also starring Idina Menzel, Sarah Sherman, Luis Guzmán and Jackie Sandler.
The project is the latest in Sandler’s current $250 million Netflix deal. The actor-comedian has produced a rather astonishing eight titles for the streaming service, ranging from the somewhat notorious Western parody The...

I can’t imagine anyone holds high expectations for the results of Adam Sandler’s $250m (£202m) deal with Netflix – not the company, its subscribers, or Sandler himself. Much of his straight-to-streaming output, such as 2016’s The Do-Over or 2017’s Sandy Wexler, seems purposefully made for quiet nights in, when the toil of the week has rotted away any ability to concentrate.
Arguably, Murder Mystery (2019) – in which he and Jennifer Aniston played a hapless couple trapped in a real-life game of Cluedo while on holiday – achieved a pinnacle in mindless distraction. It wasn’t all that funny. It wasn’t all that clever. But it was eminently watchable. It’s also funny to see how much its sequel riffs on Knives Out, seeing as the original Murder Mystery preceded that Rian Johnson film and the whodunnit craze it spawned. Because, essentially, Murder Mystery 2 is what you watch if it...

Adam Sandler has shared how Kathy Bates helped him after realising “critics hated” his movies.
Throughout his career, the actor’s choices have been regularly ridiculed by reviewers, who have given several of his releases bad write-ups.
Films including Little Nicky, Grown-Ups, The Ridiculous 6 and Sandy Wexler have been torn apart by crtiics, and Sandler has acknowledged that, at first, such a reception came as a shock to him when he started writing and leading his own films in the mid-1990s.
“When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going to write about this in New York!’” Deadline reports the actor as saying.
“We read the first one and we were like, ‘Oh my god, what happened? They hate us.’ And then we were like, ‘It must have been this paper,’ but then 90 per cent of the papers are going,...

Adam Sandler is a comedy genius of this time. He is well known for his hilarious roles in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, Grown Ups, and Murder Mystery.
Adam and His Movies
Although critics say that Adam Sandler makes a bad movie even worse, we have to disagree. Mr. Sandler knows exactly how to draw attention to the screen and is probably the only thing making these bad movies some money because even though it is terrible, you cannot stop watching them.
Adam Sandler’s Netflix Movies – Ranked Hustle
Adam Sandler spent most of his time recently working on the movie “Hustle” which Netflix released on June 8. The movie is about a down on his luck basketball scout (Sandler) who catches a lucky break when he discovers a new young talent (Bo Cruz). He decides to bring the new talent back without the approval of his team, causing quite a stir between teammates.

Kevin James’ new Netflix comedy “Home Team,” inspired by the life of NFL head coach Sean Payton, has drafted the rest of its cast.
Taylor Lautner and Tait Blum (“For All Mankind”) are among the actors rounding out the lineup of the new family comedy, which is loosely inspired by the longtime New Orleans Saints’ coach’s experience coaching his son’s amateur youth football team during his year-long suspension from the league. Rounding out the film’s cast are Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Gary Valentine, Maxwell Simkins, Jacob Perez, Bryant Tardy, Manny Magnus, Liam Kyle, Christopher Farrar, Merek Mastrov, Isaiah Mustafa, Christopher Titone, Ashley D. Adam Sandler and Kevin James seem to be joined at the hip, and you rarely see one of them without the other following close behind. Sandler gave James his first role in a live-action movie when the latter was handed the glamorous part of Factory Worker in 2004’s 50 First Dates, back when he was still best known as the star of sitcom The King of Queens, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
Over the last fifteen years, Sandler and James have co-starred in the three entries in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, two Grown Ups movies, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Zookeeper, Pixels and Sandy Wexler, while James showed up as himself for an uncredited cameo in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s groundbreaking shared universe strategy revolutionized blockbuster filmmaking over a decade ago, almost every major studio has tried to muscle in on the action. The vast majority have failed, of course, usually at the first hurdle, and the best examples tend to be the ones that nobody ever really talks about.
For instance, Quentin Tarantino has been building his own interconnected mythology for nearly 30 years, and all of his movies feature at least one connection to his previous works. Meanwhile, Adam Sandler recently teased that he’d love to have a cinematic universe of his own one day, and a new theory has now revealed that it actually already exists.

Hubie Halloween continues to reign supreme as the single most popular movie on Netflix around the world, once again reaffirming Adam Sandler‘s reputation as the crown jewel of the streaming service. Almost everything the actor touches turns to gold for the platform, with subscribers spending billions of hours watching Happy Madison Productions content in what’s the closest thing to a guaranteed hit as you can get in today’s extra competitive market where viewership preferences change on a dime.
It’s little wonder that the company are keen to extend a working relationship that’s proven to be hugely beneficial for both parties so far, and you get the distinct impression that if Sander was to drag his heels, then almost every other streaming service would be putting together a hugely lucrative package to try and lure him away from Netflix.

Having renewed their fruitful partnership earlier this year for a hefty $275 million, Netflix and Adam Sandler‘s Happy Madison Productions show no signs of slowing down their output, with the actor’s work – be it whether he stars in the films or just produces them – almost always proving to be amongst the streaming service’s most reliable titles when it comes to drawing in viewers.
Indeed, it truly does seem like every Sandler vehicle old or new cracks the platform’s Top 10 most-watched list, which is certainly impressive. The 53 year-old’s last two collaborations with Netflix, in particular, show just how important he is to their business, with Murder Mystery becoming the streaming site’s fifth most-watched original movie ever and The Wrong Missy landing in eighth spot on the list, despite Sandler only acting as producer on the latter.

Having only renewed their working relationship at the beginning of the year for the tidy sum of $275 million, Netflix and Adam Sandler‘s Happy Madison Productions are already said to be hammering out a new deal after the actor has continued to prove his worth as one of the streaming service’s most reliable drawing cards.
It seems like every Sandler vehicle old or new that appears on Netflix manages to crack the Top 10 most-watched list, which is undeniably impressive but worrying when you consider that subscribers have spent well over two billion hours streaming his content despite the overwhelming majority of it being terrible.

What have film critics ever done to Charlie Kaufman? It’s much easier to appreciate what film critics have done for Charlie Kaufman. Why would someone drawn to meaningless but desperately narcissistic characters who strive in vain to find order in a chaotic world — self-loathing clowns who resent the success of others, reject people without risking judgment themselves, and consistently retreat to the safety of a reality-bending dream world that allows them to be audience and protagonist all at once — want to write a book about a film critic? Answering that seemingly impossible question might be the only honest way to get to the murmuring heart of Kaufman’s blisteringly satirical novel “Antkind.”
“Antkind” protagonist B. Rosenberger Rosenberg isn’t your stereotypical film critic. An outlier in his occupation (clearly!), he’s pretentious and insufferable and lacks his colleagues’ self-awareness. B. enters “Antkind” the same way he does everything else in his life: Beard first.

The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) was set to be chronicled by USA Network, which last year ordered a limited series, titled Evel, with Milo Ventimiglia tapped to star as the iconic daredevil. However, the world has obviously experienced significant changes since those plans were first spun, and it seems that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused Evel to wipe out from the cable channel’s production slate.
USA Network has scrapped Evel, according to THR. The project, which was picked up to series in September 2019, saw its New Mexico production—which was finishing location prep and was on the verge of rolling cameras—shut down this past March as the pandemic escalated. That move saw Ventimiglia and the rest of the cast—Sarah Gadon, David Krumholtz and Michael Chernus—sent home. Proving that taste is somewhat relative, Netflix subscribers have reportedly consumed over 2 billion hours of Adam Sandler material since the 2015 release of his movie The Ridiculous 6 on the streaming platform. Sandler, who has a deal with Netflix for original content, has produced the likes of The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Murder Mystery, and 100% Fresh since 2014, and has four new movies in development. What, then, can account for the un-satiable interest in Sandler’s output among Netflix subscribers?
Although the Happy Madison pics for Netflix have been routinely slammed by critics, they’ve been delivering significant audiences to the streaming site, and also featured in the most popular overall content on the platform last year with Murder Mystery. In terms of Sandler’s popularity, we were surprised (and even a little dismayed) by Netflix extending his deal in 2017, but the millions of people turning up for his comedies may actually be onto something.

Respect focuses on the storied and influential career of the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
Respect is one of several music-themed biopics in development at the moment after the success of Bohemian Rhapsody, in this case set to showcase Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who brings the perfect voice to embody the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
The MGM film joins an array of genre entries that were fast-tracked on the overall industry slate, focused on artists such as Elvis Presley, David Bowie, The Bee Gees, Boy George and – renewed controversy be damned – the late King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
As the official description reads: "Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice."

This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia will star in USA Network limited series Evel, showcasing the life of legendary daredevil Evel Knievel.
The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) will be chronicled by USA Network, which has ordered a limited series, titled Evel.
Milo Ventimiglia, who currently stars on NBC television drama This is Us (which manifests under the same corporate umbrella as the cable channel), will play the eponymous daredevil on USA Network’s Evel, which he’ll also executive produce. The series will focus on a specific period in Knievel’s career, namely the preparatory build-up before his famously-failed jump across Snake River Canyon – a heavily hyped event that took place west of Idaho’s Shoshone Falls, on September 8, 1974, at 3:36 p.m. Mdt.
The limited series comes after a 2015 spate of contemplated-but-nixed Evel Knievel biographical projects from heavies like Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky.

Old-fashioned movie star charm lifts a goofy, likable film that puts a New York couple in the middle of a European whodunnit
Adam Sandler’s monstrous eight-movie deal with Netflix arrived as both a blessing and a curse for those who had actually endured any of his last eight self-produced theatrical releases. While it allowed most of us to simply pretend he had stopped working (points for anyone who’s even aware of what Sandy Wexler is), it also allowed him to continue making the same films that even his most impassioned fans had stopped buying tickets for. His streaming output has been predictably, punishingly unfunny up until now, and one would safely expect the same from his latest, which reunites him with Jennifer Aniston, who starred with him in 2011’s execrable romcom Just Go With It.

Last summer, in IndieWire’s review of “The Meyerowitz Stories,” this critic wrote that “It remains hugely frustrating how great Adam Sandler can be when he’s not making Adam Sandler movies.” If it didn’t seem necessary to hash out the distinction between a movie with Adam Sandler, and an Adam Sandler Movie, that’s only because the difference between the two is ridiculously obvious.

Netflix has released another trailer for Adam Sandler and Chris Rock's upcoming comedy The Week Of. Adam Sandler's films have been more miss than hit for me in more recent years, but this next film of his actually looks like it will be a funny comedy worth checking out. There's a different, more mature style of comedy to it than some of his previous Netflix films like The Ridiculous Six, The Do-Over, and Sandy Wexler. Here's the story summary:
When two very different fathers (Adam Sandler and Chris Rock) come together for their children’s wedding, everything that could go wrong, does. Watch the hilarious hijinks as the two try to keep everything afloat, while dealing with their families...and each other. Before they get to the big day, they have to go through a long week.

Chris Rock and Adam Sandler play hilariously passive aggressive fathers of a soon-to-be-married couple in the new trailer for Netflix original movie, The Week Of.
The Robert Smigel-directed comedy chronicles the chaos of two families coming together the week before a wedding. The new trailer highlights plenty of that madness – from magic tricks gone awry to Steve Buscemi inexplicably smoking a cigarette while lying on a chimney. The action is centered around Sandler and Rock having a very fatherly fight over whether to turn on the car air conditioner.

A big shout out to Jesse Fox over at Vulture for writing the article that is convincing me to watch Sandy Wexler. While the article itself is a decent sized read there was one all important sentence that caught my attention which clinched my decision to watch this film. Here it is: This is the movie he wanted to make and this is how he wanted to make it. A generous (maybe too generous) reading of Sandler is that he’s like a painter who just paints the same circle repeatedly until he perfects it, knowing he never will. Which is

This month is packed with great television. A lot of our favorite shows are returning for new seasons and, in one special case, a resurrected series. Plus there are exciting shows and movies making debuts. That’s why we’re introducing a weekly guide to help keep track of everything worth watching, whether it’s on broadcast, cable, or streaming.
Here’s your breakdown, day by day (and all times Eastern), for April 9–15:

The gang is getting back together. Adam Sandler's next Netflix movie is rounding out the cast with a group of Sandler collaborators: Kevin James, Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Colin Quinn and Nick Swardson. Lamorne Morris (New Girl) and Arsenio Hall are also joining the film. Sandy Wexler will star Sandler as an L.A.-based talent manager who represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his new client, a talented singer named Courtney Clarke, whom he discovers at an amusement park.

Jennifer Hudson joins Adam Sandler in Sandy Wexler…
Since Adam Sandler signed his deal to make four films for Netflix, we’ve thus far had two. Netflix has been happy with The Ridiculous Six and The Do-Over, both of which have apparently delivered big numbers for the streaming service. People who have sat through said films have generally been less content.
Still, here comes number three, a romantic comedy by the name of Sandy Wexler. In this one, Sandler will play a talent manager work in Los Angeles in the 1990s, who represents clients that others seemingly won’t. He discovers a singer at a theme park, and finds he has feelings for her. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson has signed up to play the singer in question, and Sandy Wexler will be directed by Steve Brill, a long-time Sandler collaborator who most recently steered The Do-Over.

Director Steve Brill—the man behind Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, and Sandler’s most recent Netflix dropping The Do-Over—completes this blessed union of contractual circumstance.
Sandler’s character reportedly “diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business” (a description that could just as easily be applied to Sandler himself), though that diligence is soon tested after he discovers Hudson’s Courtney...
