It’s always fun to watch and listen to famous bands do cover songs for others that have come before. The Dave Matthews Band has cultivated their own sound and enjoyed their own fan base for years now, but they’ve also gone the way of doing cover songs of other bands and the effect is pretty cool to listen to. With some songs it seems important to get everything just right and stick to the original as close as possible, but with others it seems as though the band has gone down their own path and it’s impressive to hear. So

"Oh, is that a Coke?!" Greta Gerwig exclaims. A tinkering tray carrying -- yup -- a glass of Coca-Cola has just arrived to her hotel suite. I'm having a side conversation with the actress Saoirse Ronan about their new film, Lady Bird, as Gerwig gleefully intercepts the Coke and takes a sip. "Oh god. That tastes so good."
"She don't give a sh*t about the movie right now," Ronan throws a thumb in Gerwig's direction, drawing her attention. "He was saying lovely things about the film and you're like, 'Mmm, fizzy! Bubbly!'"
Lady Bird, which Gerwig wrote and with which she makes her directorial debut, centers on high school senior Christine McPherson, self-nicknamed Lady Bird, as she navigates Catholic school boys, college applications and mother-daughter drama in circa 2003 Sacramento. The irony is Gerwig gives such a sh*t about the film that it's the first thing anyone mentions about working with her. Beanie Feldstein, who co-stars...

Beanie Feldstein might be the younger sister of Jonah Hill, but after “Lady Bird,” she doesn’t need a famous relative to make her name stand out. Currently holding her own opposite Bette Midler on Broadway’s “Hello, Dolly!” while “Lady Bird” breaks box office records, Feldstein — who plays the best friend to the movie’s wayward teen, played by Saoirse Ronan — may be the year’s most exciting discovery.
With all due respect to the brilliant cast of “Lady Bird,” if a 23-year-old relative unknown can hold her own against Bette Midler, the rest of the world doesn’t stand a chance. Greta Gerwig’s fine-tuned directorial has been called “beautiful,” “insightful,” and “perfection”—and that’s just by New York Times film critic A.O. Scott. The movie is led by a winsome Ronan and fiercely commanding Laurie Metcalf, but Feldstein’s talent is established over the course of the movie.

Recently, it was announced that the Dave Matthews Band will be playing what has been called “The Night Before” concert in St. Paul, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like in the sense that it is happening on the night before Super Bowl Li. As a result, football fans who are interested in their particular kind of rock music might want to check them out, particularly since the last time that they played in St. Paul was at the Xcel Energy Center in 2015. Who are the Dave Matthews Band? Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Dave Matthews Band is centered

For Greta Gerwig, flattery got her everywhere.
While on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the Lady Bird director presented the personal letters she wrote to Justin Timberlake, Alanis Morissette and Dave Matthews, asking permission to procure the rights to their hit songs.
The letters worked and Gerwig was able to have Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," Morissette's “Hand in My Pocket" and Dave Matthew Band's "Crash" play in her movie. Upon reading these notes to the musicians, it's clear why they agreed to let her use the tunes.
In her letter to Timberlake, the 34-year-old star begins, "I mean, what can I say? You’re Justin Timberlake.”
Gerwig goes on to note that she bought “both the CD and cassette” of the Justified album in 2003 because her "car didn’t have a CD player."
"You were the soundtrack to my adolescence," she gushes in her note to the 36-year-old pop star. "Between *Nsync and your...

Listen to the 'Joyful and Mournful, Romantic and Heartbroken' Title Track to 'Lady Bird' (Exclusive)
Nearly everything about Greta Gerwig's directorial debut, Lady Bird, is perfect, from the script (which she also wrote) to the casting (including Saoirse Ronan as the titular Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson and Laurie Metcalf as her lovingly exasperated mother) to the costumes, cinematography and music.
While Gerwig makes excellent use of Dave Matthews Band in the film, she also enlisted composer Jon Brion (responsible for such varied work as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Step Brothers) to craft the score, which she calls "joyful and mournful, romantic and heartbroken." Below, listen to the Lady Bird—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack:
"In Jon I found a musical soulmate," Gerwig writes in the album's liner notes. "His work is emotional and witty and old-fashioned and forward thinking all at once…I am so grateful for him and the music he made, and it is what allowed Lady Bird to soar."
Et spoke with Brion...

We're neck-deep in the prestige-movie season, i.e. when a handful of movies made for [gasp] adults join the usual year-round I.P. blockbusters. Yes, there are new Marvel and DC movies heading down the pike, perfect for those who like their superhero films in both bright-and-peppy and dark-and-dour flavors. But there's also one of the year's best romance movies, a there-goeth-the-great-man biopic, an Agatha Christie murder mystery, a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age movie and a chatty three-men-and-a-coffin character study on deck. All this, plus a black-and-white movie by Louis C.K. that will...

Like all Wes Anderson movies, “Rushmore” is made special in part by its carefully curated soundtrack. Mark Mothersbaugh, the Kinks, Donovan, the Creation and other artists provide the musical accompaniment to Max Fischer’s coming of age and remind us of Anderson’s artful meticulousness. Courtesy of Kentucker Audley, we now have a new version of the “Rushmore” soundtrack to ponder — and it’s hilarious in its awfulness.

Beck is a first-time Grammys nominee for Best Rock Album for his critically acclaimed "Morning Phase," but he's no newcomer. He earned six nominations and two wins in the Alternative Album field. Will the category switch pay off? -Break- It seems likely. Of the five nominees in this category, "Morning Phase" is the only one with a corresponding Album of the Year nomination, and those usually have a decisive edge. Will Lady Gaga help Tony Bennett to another Trad. Pop Grammy against Barbra Streisand? This category was created in 1994. Out of the 20 previous races, there were six in which there was no Album of the Year nominee in the lineup. Of the remaining 14 years, an Album of the Year nominee won 12 times. History strongly favors a victory for Beck. But there were two exceptions to this rule. The most recent was 2009, when Dave Matthews Band were nominated for Rock Album...

If Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare were an Ok Cupid profile, it would be the kind you gently mock for its cartoonishly mainstream interests—of course that guy's favorite movie is Fight Club. Call of Duty is the hacky sack of video games, the Dave Matthews Band of First-Person Shooters; a salmon-colored shorts wearing, moccasin-shod, Keystone Light beer of an entertainment franchise. But then one night, you'd be sorta bored... and to be honest, Call of Duty is kind of cute when it's not wearing sweats. And hey, Call of Duty is also self-aware and can carry a conversation really well.

These movie posters by Rich Kelly are pretty fantastic. I think The Sword in the Stone is the worst Disney movie ever made, and I would still hang this on my wall. The poster is better than the movie, is what what I’m saying. I really love the way that even though his work is very distinctive, the style of each poster is driven by the movie. It’s hard to pick a favorite, although I do love the single ray of light on Llewyn Davis and the way the idyllic suburban street morphs into a snake on the Kings of Summer poster. I even love the fiddler on the Dave Matthews Band poster, and even under torture I would not agree to listen to their music. The Son of Frankenstein poster is a nice contrast to this. You can see more of his work here, and buy some prints here.

Good news for the stoner-on-the-go: The ZaZZZ machine will dispense all your favorite edibles, quick and easy! Bad news: Only if you have a medical license and valid ID. Here are all the reasons we can think of that you would need weed this fast: • Last minute tickets to a Dave Matthews Band concert. • You just drove past a White...

Marvel announced today that Michael Douglas has signed on to star with Paul Rudd in the Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man. He will be playing Hank Pym, which was actually the character people assumed Rudd was playing. Basically, Pym was the original Ant-Man, inventing the Ant-Man helmet and size-shifting serum. Scott Lang, whom Rudd will be playing, became Ant-Man by stealing Pym's inventions, eventually deciding to use it for good, and has been the primary Ant-Man in recent history. Back in 2006, Wright told Super Hero Hype the plan would be to prominently feature both Pym and Lang, showing Pym as Ant-Man in the sixties and then flashing-forward to Lang's journey to become the hero. The film is scheduled for a July 31, 2015 release. After reading this, do you also have Dave Matthews Band's "Ants Marching" stuck in your head? Well, you probably do now.

“What was cool about my time on the show is that I got to hit every era of music: I did the 2000s with The Killers, I did the ’70s with Petty, I did the ’60s with The Beatles, I did the ’90s with The Verve and then I finished it off in the ’80s with Phil Collins. I hit the last 50 years of music!”

1. Miley Cyrus-'Bangerz' (RCA Records)
Tabloid regular and queen of "twerk" Miley Cyrus is gearing up to release her highly anticipated fourth studio album, Bangerz. In the weeks leading up to its release, Cyrus received much criticism for her antics, let alone for her stripped-down video, Wrecking Ball. The music video currently holds a Vevo record, being the fastest music video ever to reach certified status, with over 100 million views in just 6 days. In an effort to shed her former squeaky clean Disney-tween image, Cyrus has gone to the extreme to bare everything, literally.

President Barack Obama wasn't Jimmy Fallon's only guest to jam on Wednesday (April 25). Dave Matthews premiered his band's new song, "Mercy," on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" the same night.
Captain Kirk Douglas of The Roots accompanied Matthews during the performance. "Mercy" is the first track confirmed to be on the new Dave Matthews Band album due out later this year.
Producer Steve Lillywhite tweeted after the performance, saying it's "not just acoustic on the album" and "it is not quiet on the album!"

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Jan. 31 promises to be music's biggest night ... and also ladies night.
Beyonce Knowles, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga (left) made such an impact 2009, and they're well represented at the Grammy Awards with several nominations apiece.
Besides the usual performances and outrageous fashions (how can she sit in that?), this year's telecast also features a rare appearance by Michael Jackson's children, Prince Michael and Paris, who will accept a lifetime achievement award on behalf of their late father.
If you need to steal away during the festivities, no worries, we'll be recapping all of the show's highlights.
All times are Eastern.
8:00 p.m. - We've been promised some Lady Gaga for the opening, and there she is! She's left behind the Milky Way Galaxy red carpet look and instead is wearing a sparkly turquoise poofy Judy Jetson number with glitter mask to perform "Poker Face.
