On the heels of the season finale of Lucasfilm’s all-new action-adventure series “Willow” based on George Lucas’ fantasy-adventure film, Disney+ has set a January 25, 2023 premiere date for the debut of its original documentary special, “Willow: Behind the Magic.” Featuring the series’ breakout stars and returning legends, the documentary takes viewers behind the scenes for an in-depth look at the making of the hit original series, which debuted on Disney+ November 30, 2022.
The story of “Willow” began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis, is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne. Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes – which includes a now-grown Elora, who has just learned of her prodigious birthright – on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.

Wales has long been regarded as a place of myth and magic – its national emblem is the dragon, after all, and it has strong links with the legend of King Arthur. So, it is fitting that Lucasfilm should have chosen it as the location for the Disney+ fantasy series “Willow.” The production was based at Dragon Studios in Bridgend, South Wales, and filmed at 32 locations across the country.
The Celtic nation has provided the locations for many iconic movie scenes over the decades, including the Bat Cave in “The Dark Knight Rises,” The Slaughtered Lamb pub in “American Werewolf in London,” and the castle in the opening scene of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
Wales also hosted part of the shoot for Ron Howard’s original 1988 “Willow” movie, based on a story by George Lucas, and starring Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley and Warwick Davis. The latter two actors reprise...

Jonathan Kasdan, the showrunner of the streaming series ‘Willow’, has revealed how the team zeroed in on Dempsey Bryk for the casting of Prince Airk in the series. Fate had it for Dempsey, who is Canadian and was cast for the part despite the makers actively looking for a polished British actor to play it. He was selected after Jon and team stumbled upon his audition tapes.
Talking about the same, Jon said: “We knew we needed a contemporary version of a charming fairytale prince. We met a lot of very proper British actors, you know, very manicured men, and then Dempsey, this fun Canadian kid, showed up in one of the tapes and was so original and fresh; we all knew we could not pass him up.”

In 1988, Jonathan Kasdan watched the fantasy adventure Willow for the first time at Westwood’s Regency Village Theater with his father and Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. Thirty-four years later, Kasdan — now co-writer and executive producer of the series reboot of the original film — returned to the very same theater on Tuesday for the premiere of Disney+’s Willow.
“It’s kind of like coming home,” executive producer Roopesh Parekh told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think what’s been key to the whole show, getting it off the ground but also getting to this point, is the love, passion and enthusiasm of Jon Kasdan. He’s sort of navigated this whole thing over the last four years. It’s been his dream to tell our story.”
“Without Jon, we wouldn’t have a series,” added Warwick Davis, who reprises his role as the eponymous Willow in the series.

The minute-long “Special Look” video for Disney+’s Willow showcases the return of the titular character, teases a search for Elora, and declares “their first quest is the world’s last hope.” There’s a little bit of action, some magical moments, a lot of humor, and a character who looks like the Cryptkeeper.
The new video arrived along with the final poster for season one.

“The Freedom Orchestra” (working title), a documentary film presented by Clive Myrie, will tell the story of Ukraine’s newly formed Freedom Orchestra. In the midst of the ongoing war with Russia, 75 of Ukraine’s noted musicians have come together to bring a message of defiance and hope. Some of their family members are on the frontlines, and many have fled Ukraine since the war began.
Myrie follows the stories of the musicians from rehearsing, often alone, in Ukraine, to coming together for their first rehearsal as an orchestra in Warsaw for their inaugural concert — ahead of a tour of Europe and the U.S., including a performance at the BBC Proms on July 31.
Myrie said: “There has always been a cultural frontline in this war and I wanted to reflect that struggle. This documentary, I hope, shines a light on Ukraine’s artistic achievements as well as creative spirit,...

Disney+ has given the green light to a “Willow” sequel series from Lucasfilm and Ron Howard, the director of the 1988 original.
The new series, which will see Warwick Davis reprise his role as the titular character, will take place years after the events of Howard’s film. Jon M. Chu has signed on to direct the pilot, which is slated to shoot next year.
Howard is an executive producer on the project, with “Solo” writer Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle serving as showrunners.
“Growing up in the ’80s, ‘Willow’ has had a profound effect on me,” Chu said in a statement. “The story of the bravest heroes in the least likely places allowed me, an Asian-American kid growing up in a Chinese restaurant looking to go to Hollywood, to believe in the power of our own will, determination and of course, inner magic. So the fact that I get to...

British actors Sean Bean ("Game of Thrones") and Rupert Grint ("Harry Potter") have joined the cast of "Enemy of Man," a new spin on Shakespearean tragedy "Macbeth" which Kaleidoscope Film Distribution is shopping around in Toronto.
Bean plays the tragic antihero in the film which also boasts talent like Charles Dance ("Game of Thrones"), Jason Flemyng ("X-Men: First Class"), James D’Arcy ("Cloud Atlas"), Neil Maskell ("Kill List") and Joe Gilgun ("Misfits").
Vincent Regan directs the project and says his ambition for the adaptation is: "Remaining true to its dark heart, we will strip back the dialogue, crank up the action and produce an atmospheric and blood-soaked chiller."
Steve Harvey, Roopesh Parekh, Regan and Jasper Smith will produce. Filming begins in January.
The project is not to be confused with Justin Kurzel's "Macbeth" adaptation starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
