J. Matthew Stevens
- Actor
J. Matt Stevens is the youngest son of Harry Byron Stevens and Pamela
Maither Stevens. Due to his father's position in the United States
Airforce, Matt's parents traveled and moved quite extensively before
settling down and raising their children in Lilburn, Georgia (USA.)
Matt's older brother, Kris Stevens, was born in England, and Matt
himself was born on Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, USA.
After attending Brookwood High School in Snelville, Georgia, as a
talented soccer player and qualifying for the United States Southeast
Regional Team, Matt decided to forgo scholarship offers from
Appalachian State University, give up soccer, and instead attend the
University of Georgia as his family had before him. After spending a
year studying Business, Matt changed his major and pursued a B.A. in
Drama with an emphasis in Film Studies and Acting. He graduated from
the University of Georgia in 2003, and remains an avid Bulldogs fan to
this day. Matt spent the next two years building his acting repertoire,
garnering his first on-screen guest appearance on the popular TV series
Dawson's Creek (1998). He starred alongside M*A*S*H (1970) personality Jo Ann Pflug and 'Dan
Tucker' in the well-received Atlanta play "Veranda" at the Ansley Park
Playhouse, and made his film debut in the feature RedMeansGo (2005). In the
summer of 2004, Matt decided to further pursue his love of academia and
apply to graduate school. Upon acceptance to several highly competitive
M.A. programs both in the United States and Europe, Matt chose to
attend the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he is currently
pursuing a one-year M.A. program. He plans to return to the United
States to earn his PhD and become a Professor of Film Studies at a
university.
