Hollywood typically casts 20-something actors as teens, primarily due to labor laws. The Vampire Diaries was no different, with most of the cast members in their early to mid-20s when the teen drama began. By the time Tvd ended after eight seasons, its actors had aged. Ian Somerhalder was one of the oldest on the show, so how old was he while on The Vampire Diaries?

Somerhalder swooped in as the brooding and impulsive Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries in June 2009. The star was 30 when he began playing a character over a century old. But Damon had become a vampire at 25, hence his youthful appearance. That’s five years younger than Somerhalder when he debuted as the character.

Studios typically try to hang on to props because they are a vital part of the history of shows like The Vampire Diaries and can even increase in value over time. However, the actors who use them usually care more about keeping a memento of their time spent in character than they do about the cost of the item.
Over the years, several actors have come forward to admit that they have taken home props. One of them was Paul Wesley, who kept Stefan’s daylight ring when Tvd ended in 2017.

The Vampire Diaries stuck to a staple of vampire lore by having its fanged characters get burned if they went outside during the day. However, the show also devised a simple solution to this problem so that its characters could walk in the sun—daylight rings.

A wedding, an engagement and a journey to another planet — fans got all that and more in the series finale of “Roswell, New Mexico” on Monday night. And according to showrunner Chris Hollier, a lot of the night’s events were always the plan for the pod squad — except maybe Malex’s wedding.
Don’t worry, Michael Guerin (Michael Vlamis) and Alex Manes (Tyler Blackburn) were always meant for each other. Even Blackburn told TheWrap he’d have been “pissed” if the men didn’t get the ending they deserved. And indeed, Hollier told TheWrap this week that the “Roswell” writers “always knew there was a happy ending” for the pairing.
“We’d always talked about, like, the fact that we were starting Season 4 with a proposal, we expected people would have a wedding,” Hollier explained. “So how can we surprise them with what that wedding would be? And the answer was,...

After seasons of overcoming their own hardships and obstacles keeping them apart, we see Alex (Tyler Blackburn) and Michael (Michael Vlamis) get married. It is bound to fill every viewer with happiness as we watch these two men get ready for this life changing step, especially Sanders’ visit to a nervous Michael. Nathan Dean as Max Evans and Jeanine Mason as Liz Ortecho in ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ season 4 episode 13
The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico season four episode 13 serves as both the season and series finale. Picking up seconds after the end of episode 12, “How It’s Going to Be“ begins with Clyde easily stopping Isobel and Max’s attack. Rosa (Amber Midthunder) concentrates on tuning in on Clyde’s frequency and manages to free herself from his restraint.
Rosa surprises Clyde by smashing him over the head with a board, which gives Max (Nathan Dean) time to prepare to use the blue flame. Unfortunately, Clyde also uses the flame and knocks everyone over before kidnapping Rosa and escaping in a car.
The #PodSquad discuss their next move and Bonnie suggests they need to destroy the portal before Clyde can use it. Michael (Michael Vlamis) thinks they should hold off on that drastic move and Max agrees.

Malex fans came close to their royal wedding on Monday night’s episode of “Roswell, New Mexico,” but in the end, no nuptials occurred. The good news is, they probably still will! According to series stars Tyler Blackburn and Michael Vlamis, a wedding between Alex and Michael is something they’ve wanted as much as the fans have.
“It was about time. I definitely felt that,” Vlamis told TheWrap of learning about this particular storyline. “I’ve been wanting that for a long time secretly, on and off set with Tyler. And so finally, you know, getting it on the show!”
Jokes aside, both Vlamis and Blackburn were pleased to know that the fans would be getting what they want from the writers, one way or another — even if there were some hiccups along the way. Of course, one of those hurdles is a bit more terrifying than the others,...

Jeanine Mason, Michael Trevino, Amber Midthunder, Nathan Dean, and Lily Cowles in ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ season 4 episode 11
Clyde meets with Jones as The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico season four episode 11 opens with a flashback to their time on Oasis. Jones offers Clyde a position in his inner circle, convincing Clyde that he’ll share his enormous powers if he accepts.
Clyde agrees and is branded with the alien symbol. Jones welcomes him to the family.
Flash-forward to the present-day and Rosa (Amber Midthunder) confronts Liz (Jeanine Mason) about her erratic behavior and warns her sister that her addiction to the alien mist is going to end badly. Rosa notes Liz has moved out of Max’s place and is basically destroying her life, but Liz doesn’t care.

Roswell, New Mexico's favorite doctor has had a hell of a season.
While Kyle Valenti continues to be an integral part of this final season, his portrayer, Michael Trevino, traded in his stethoscope for a director's chair as he got behind the camera to helm Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 Episode 9.
It's a twisty hour that takes viewers into a mindscape that looks much more like an episode of Gunsmoke than Roswell. We asked Michael about the hour and the differences between acting and directing. We also had to sneak in a Kybel question for all you shippers!
Michael is always a pleasure to speak with, and it's always a good time talking to him about Roswell. Enjoy!
What did you think when you got the script and were like, this is going to be my episode because it's unlike anything we've seen on Roswell?

This was certainly an hour unlike anything we've seen through four seasons of Roswell, New Mexico.
Sure, we've seen mindscapes a time or twenty, but this wasn't a two-minute scene of the chaos in Max's mind when he was dead or Michael and Isobel talking about their love lives.
Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 Episode 9 was a whole hour spent in the old west, with Liz and her doppelganger playing a game of cat and mouse while her friends tried to keep her alive in the real world. So, to put it mildly, this installment was a Trip.
Here's the thing about these kinds of episodes; you either love them or hate them.
There usually isn't much in-between when it comes to bottle-like hours that see the show shrunken down to its most basic parts to create an experience that allows a deeper exploration of the characters. The slower pace is...

Any actor’s directorial debut is daunting. But for “Roswell, New Mexico” star Michael Trevino, things were significantly easier thanks to his leading lady, Jeanine Mason, who apparently was “saving” him on the daily.
In Monday night’s episode, directed by Trevino, we meet Outlaw Liz (Mason). She’s a parallel version of the Liz Ortecho we’ve come to know and love, who acts on her darker impulses. Thanks to the chemical compound she inhaled, Liz is trapped in her mindscape, battling for dominance. That mindscape, of course, is an old western town, in which Liz is the sheriff, haunted by Outlaw Liz.
Mason took on double duty for the week and according to Trevino, needed very little direction from him.
“I literally was just behind the monitor, because I know how talented she is,” Trevino recalled to TheWrap. “And then I see her play this completely different character,...

Roswell, New Mexico star Michael Trevino is stepping behind the camera for what he’s calling “the Avengers assembling to come together for one common goal” episode of the series. In August 8’s “Wild Wild West,” it’s up to everyone to save Liz (Jeanine Mason) after Shivani (Rehka Sharma) exposed her to the alien-power mist. As a result, Liz ends up in a mindscape set in the wild, wild west, and it soon becomes not just about saving her, but Max (Nathan Dean) as well. Trevino previews the episode (including Shiri Appleby’s appearance), talks about directing, and teases how it will all end for Kyle and his relationship with Isobel (Lily Cowles). What made this episode the right one for your TV directing debut? You did a short [Two Roads] previously. Michael Trevino: I did. I did a short film after Season 3. I’ve been shadowing all the directors on our series since the pilot,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 Episode 5 “You Get What You Give.”] It was only a matter of time before something happened between Isobel (Lily Cowles) and Kyle (Michael Trevino), given their chemistry. And in the latest episode of Roswell, New Mexico, something did. Following a painful end to her relationship with Anatsa (Sibongile Mlambo), Isobel followed Kyle to Mexico as everyone continues to investigate the new aliens. There, they not only found a lead (they’re on track to find Shiri Appleby’s Allie!) but also share a dance that leads to a kiss! Cowles breaks down that big moment and teases what’s ahead, including how the series will end for Isobel. Let’s talk about that kiss. There are moments leading up to it in previous episodes, yes, but just in this episode — there’s his reaction to her hand on his shoulder, then the dance. How does Isobel feel about Kyle? ...

Fans of Roswell, New Mexico, were given some bad news last week.
The sci-fi reboot has been canceled after four seasons.
The good news?
We still have an entire season to watch before the residents of the alien-filled town say goodbye for good.
The CW dropped the official trailer this week, and it teases the coming events in a big way.
While the show isn't getting a pre-planned conclusion, the ending is supposed to be satisfying enough for longtime fans.
“Mark Pedowitz [and] his team at The CW had the class [and] grace to warn the shows that they might not survive, even if The CW wanted them,” executive producer Julie Plec tweeted of Roswell and Legacies over the weekend.
“Because of that, the season finales of both shows were carefully crafted to also work as series finales.”

We here at TV Fanatic love ourselves some Kyle Valenti.
This season, Roswell, New Mexico's resident doctor, and all-around gem, has been put to the test. But through all the trials and tribulations, he remains the one guy his friends can always count on.
Michael Trevino was kind enough to take the time to chat with us about Kyle's journey this season, what's next for him, and which character from The Vampire Diaries he'd like to see spend a little time in alien territory.
Hey, Whitney.
Hi Michael, how are you?
I'm doing well. I'm doing well. How are you?
Good, I'm great. Thank you. So, I'm just jumping right in here. Kyle has had a lot going on in season three, to put it mildly. How would you describe his journey so far this season?

Exclusive: Bones alum Michael Grant Terry and Gillian Vigman (Life Sentence) are set for recurring roles on the upcoming third season of the CW’s Roswell, New Mexico.
Written by Carina Adly MacKenzie and directed by Julie Plec, the reimagined Roswell, like the original, is based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz.
Terry will play Jordan, the son of Roswell’s Mayor Bernhardt, a privileged young man who blames his failure to measure up to his parents’ high expectations on the influx of immigrants and people of color in his community. As the leader of a grassroots group dedicated to preserving the status quo in Roswell, Jordan will go toe to toe with our heroes as racial tensions in town bubble to the surface.
Vigman will play Roswell’s diligent new Sheriff Brooke Taylor, a tough yet charismatic officer elected on a mandate of law and order.

Ten years ago today, the iconic "Masquerade" episode of Vampire Diaries aired. It was without a doubt one of the defining episodes of the season, perhaps even the series as a whole. As fans will recall, "Masquerade" showed Tyler (Michael Trevino) triggering the werewolf curse, Katherine (Nina Dobrev) being trapped in the tomb and Elena breaking up with Stefan (Paul Wesley) for the first—but not the last—time. It set the stage for the seasons to come and, more importantly, cemented fan hatred for Katherine. If you remember the reveal on Grey's Anatomy that Dr. Sam Bello was a Daca recipient or Mateo's surprising backstory of being an undocumented Filipino immigrant on Superstore, you've seen a storyline that Define American has consulted on. The nonprofit, which focuses on immigrant narratives, is currently working to improve diverse storylines on television. While folks in the industry are working toward creating opportunities for diversity in front of and behind the camera, it's equally important that the narratives told reflect our world. In fact, Define American is just one of the many organizations doing the on-the-ground work to bring more accurate voices and lived experiences to the small screen.
On Roswell, New Mexico's second season, Define American worked with the team on nuanced storylines involving the complexities of seeking healthcare while undocumented and a harrowing experience involving Ice agents.

Carina Adly MacKenzie, the creator of Roswell, New Mexico, has left her position as co-showrunner of the series ahead of Season 3 due to “fundamental differences.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter story that broke the news, the decision comes after MacKenzie’s relationship with studio Warner Bros. Television has “been strained for some time,” citing a Twitter incident in which MacKenzie criticized UK distributor ITV over cutting a gay love scene from the broadcast of the show that led Warner Bros. to have to do “damage control” as a recent example. More broadly, the article states: “During her time on the show, she is said to have fostered a working environment that some say was rife with tension.”
Really, really, Really upset to hear that @itv cut out a (pretty tame) love scene between two men and kept a (much more raunchy) heterosexual sex scene in their airing of an episode of #RoswellNM tonight.

Nathan Dean had the time of his afterlife working on Season 2 of Roswell, New Mexico.
After sacrificing himself in the CW drama’s first season finale, Dean’s character — rugged cowboy alien Max Evans — spent the first few episodes of the show’s sophomore season on the other side of the veil, which meant that Max had to chill in his pod until Liz could figure out a way to revive him.
