BBC has acquired “Trom,” a crime drama set in the Faroe Islands, which will have its international premiere at the Berlinale Series Market Selects.
A Viaplay Original, “Trom” is produced by REinvent Studios with Kyk Pictures and Truenorth. REinvent International Sales represents worldwide rights. “Trom” will premiere on Viaplay on Feb. 13
Based on Jagvan Isaksen’s crime novels, “Trom” was created by Torfinnur Jákupsson and directed by Kasper Barfoed (“Dicte: Crime Reporter”) and Davíd Óskar Ólafsson (“The Valhalla Murders”). The cinematic show is headlined by Nordic stars including Ulrich Thomsen (“The New Pope”), Maria Rich (“Follow The Money”) and Olaf Johannessen (“The Exception”).
“We are thrilled and proud that the BBC has come on board ‘Trom,'” said Helene Aurø, sales and marketing director at REinvent International Sales. “BBC has broadcast some of the best Nordic series ever produced in the past and we hope ‘Trom’ will be a success as well.

REinvent International Sales has boarded Trine Piil’s next film “Nothing,” a coming-of-age thriller based on
Danish author Janne Teller’s bestselling novel by the same name.
“Nothing” was published in more than 30 territories and has so far sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, including 500.000 in Germany. The film will tell the story of Pierre Anthon and his classmates who have just started 8th grade. One day, Pierre decides to quit school and moves up in a tree, declaring that life has no meaning. His classmates are shaken by Pierre’s decision and start gathering their most valuable belongings in a “heap of meaning” that will convince Pierre that he is wrong. But the innocent offerings soon turns into a spiral of psychological violence, with children testing their limits and making increasingly painful sacrifices.
Piil penned the adaptation and has directed the film with Seamus McNally, an American director and acting coach.

A year has been a long time for Mexican actress-dramatist-director Lila Avilés. Last October, she was preparing to screen her first feature, “The Chambermaid” (La Camarista) in rough-cut at Los Cabos.“The Chambermaid” won at Los Cabos, attracted co-producers in Bad Boy Billy Production and La Panda, swept Ventana Sur, again as a work in progress, and soon after snagged a sales agent, Paris-based Alpha Violet. In September, it world premiered at Toronto Festival, then segued to San Sebastian’s prestigous New Directors showcase, sparking reviews which announced Avilés as a talent to track.
A quiet melodrama, “La Camarista” follows the daily grind of a chambermaid, Eve (Gabriela Cartol) at Mexico City’s chic Hotel Presidente Internacional as it charts the search for identity of a person who seems invisible to some clients, is already a mother, but not yet her own person.
