London, June 10: Singer Rita Ora says that she was not a very obedient student during her school days and was not always good with rules.
The 21-year-old singer studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School here.
"It wasn't like 'Glee', sure there was the musical theatre lot and you have to do every class, like tap and ballet, but it was cool. It wasn't just jazz hands," Ora, 21, said.
"I was cheeky. I hated.

Amy Winehouse did not prepare a will before she died on July 23 in her London apartment. But records show that the 27-year-old singer did leave behind a nearly $5 million fortune.
According to the Associated Press, Winehouse's estate, worth approximately $4.66 million, will go to her parents. Probate documents revealed on Wednesday showed that Winehouse left assets totaling more than $6.7 million, with $4.66 remaining after taxes and debts. Winehouse's father, Mitch, is listed as the administrator of her estate and nothing will go to her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, whom she divorced in 2009 after a tumultuous courtship that landed the couple in the tabloids, and jail, on numerous occasions.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation has set up a scholarship at the Sylvia Young Theater School, where a 13-year-old Amy auditioned with her rendition of the jazz classic "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and studied voice. "It would be wonderful to find another Amy," the school's founder told Reuters, "but there was only one Amy." Which is likely why the scholarship is open to all money-strapped students, not just those looking to sing — after all, young Amy did dance and later took to wearing ballet flats, though she wasn't exactly the greatest fan of theater actors.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation was established after the early passing of the late "Back to Black" singer and the institution has announced it will be funding a new performing arts scholarship. Partially run by Winehouse’s father, Mitch, the foundation will offer a paid scholarship to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, where the singer herself trained as a teenager.
“As most people would know, Amy was a pupil at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. The former So Solid Crew member has a burgeoning acting career. But how much does his portrayal of young black men draw on his own troubled background – and does he worry about being typecast?
Is Ashley Walters afraid of being typecast? In his new film, Sket, he plays a violent gang leader on a London housing estate. In Top Boy, a Channel 4 drama soon to be screened, he plays a drug dealer on a London housing estate. In another new film – because Walters is about to be everywhere – Demons Never Die, he plays a police officer; it must have come as something of a relief. After Bullet Boy, the 2004 film that kick-started his movie career – in which he played a young man involved in gun crime on a London housing estate – it seemed as if he could be in danger of becoming the go-to man for gritty, urban dramas.

Current Dr Who Matt Smith stars in a one-off drama which chronicles the formative years of English-American writer Christopher Isherwood, whose works include Goodbye to Berlin, which comes to BBC Two at the end of March.
Matt Smith stars as Christopher Isherwood with Lindsay Duncan playing his mother, Kathleen.
Christopher Isherwood escapes repressive English society and his suffocating relationship with his mother, Kathleen, for the decadent – and politically unstable – world of Thirties Berlin.
The hedonistic Berlin cabaret scene is in full swing when a young and wide-eyed Christopher Isherwood arrives in the city, unable to speak a word of German. To Isherwood's reserved English sensibility, the city's thriving gay subculture is thrilling and intoxicating. But Christopher soon finds himself heartbroken after the failure of a hopeless love affair and so sets out on a process of self-discovery...

Much has been made over the last week or so of best leading actress Oscar nominee, Gabourey Sidibe – her weight, and the likelihood (or not) of her having a long and successful career ahead of her. However, what seems to have been overlooked is that, whether or not you think she has talent as an actress or not (I think she has), she’s already achieved more acclaim for her one film role than most black actors can hope to achieve in a lifetime… and a couple more film and TV roles, to boot! So she’s already ahead of the game. How long she stays there though is anyone’s guess, but the same could be said of most black thesps, especially if film is their chosen medium… and even more especially if they have their sights set on Hollywood.
So what about lesser known black actors who’ve graced our screens recently,...
