I'm a firm believer that the 1999 Disney Channel Original Movie Smart House can be viewed as both a coming-of-age family drama and a horror film. A family held captive in their own house by an increasingly aggressive computer program? Sounds spooky to me. Now Netflix is getting in on the chills and thrills of artificial intelligence with a look at another unsettling smart house in the new movie Tau.
Directed by Federico D'Alessandro from a screenplay by Noga Landau, Tau stars Maika Monroe, Ed Skrein, and features the voice of Gary Oldman. The film will be available to stream on Netflix in the Us beginning June 29th, and you can watch the new trailer below. Will you be tuning in?
Synopsis: "Held captive in a futuristic smart house, a woman hopes to escape by befriending the A.I. program that controls the house."

"Return to your tasks immediately or I will inflict pain." Netflix has debuted the first official trailer for an intriguing high tech horror thriller titled Tau, the feature directorial debut Uruguayan filmmaker Federico D'Alessandro, who has worked as a storyboard artist and animatics supervisor in Hollywood. Tau is about a woman being held captive in a futuristic smart house, who tries to escape by befriending the A.I. program that controls the house. Maika Monroe stars, along with Gary Oldman (what!!) and Ed Skrein. So, this actually looks like a really cool tech thriller, something along the lines of Breaking In or Ex Machina, but more contained and stylistic. Here's the first official trailer for Federico D'Alessandro's Tau, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Kidnapped by an inventor who uses her as a test subject to perfect his robotic AI, a street-smart young woman (Maika Monroe) tries to escape her high-tech prison.

Netflix has acquired global rights outside of China to Tau, the sci-fi thriller starring Maika Monroe, Ed Skrein and Gary Oldman. The deal for the Federico D'Alessandro-directed pic was made during the American Film Market by Bloom, which is repping international sales, and its new parent Endeavor Content, which repped domestic. Penned by Noga Landau, the pic follows a once-street-smart grifter (Monroe) who is the latest victim to be kidnapped and held captive in a fatal…...

"The Avengers" animatics supervisor Federico D'Alessandro has posted online several videos of storyboarded scenes that didn't make in into the finished 2012 film.
Most of the scenes revolve around "Iron Man," but one shows that the character of Janet Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, actually made it pretty far along in the production process. It seems that iconic shot from all the trailers that pans around the entire team originally included Wasp.
Whedon reportedly wanted the character in the film but had to cut her out due to there being too many characters already. The character's first appearance will now likely take place during Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" film.
Other scenes include Iron Man taking on bad guys, an alternate version of Loki's escape, and and extended version of the Stark and Loki fight.

Artist Federico D'Alessandro has released some more awesome Marvel movie animatics for you to check out! He was the animatics supervisor on The Avengers, and this set comes from that film. Not only are they action-packed, showing us some really cool sequences we didn't see in the final cut of the film, but they show us how close The Wasp came to actually being in the film. She's included in one of the sequences called "Final Battle Act Part I," and you can clearly see her in it at the 0:17 mark. The rest of the scenes include Iron Man being a badass. Check them out!

Not everything that the filmmakers intend to put into a movie ends up making the final cut, especially with enormous blockbusters like the Marvel films. Endings and other sequences from the films might be entirely different in theatrical versions than what was originally visioned. That is where Federico D'Alessandro comes in. Federico is a storyboard artist and animatics supervisor for many of Marvel's fillms, including the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron . Having worked on every Marvel film since Thor , Federico has put many of his unused animatics up on YouTube and many of them feature very different things from the finished films. Below you'll find three, one with an alternate ending to Trevor in Iron Man 3 , another from The Avengers that features The...

When "The Avengers" was released, several founding members didn't end up on the team, like Ant-Man and The Wasp. But director Joss Whedon previously revealed that he initially wanted to have The Wasp part of the core team. In fact, the character was included in some early storyboards. Artist Federico D'Alessandro posted four animated storyboards from the movie. One of them includes a scene in which aliens enter Earth for the big battle. In that scene, the camera pans around the team, revealing The Wasp (the one without the guns). As much as Whedon wanted to keep her in the movie, he said that there were already too many characters. But this isn't the last time we'll see The Wasp. She'll likely make an appearance in Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" film. Video:...

A new storyboard animatic from Avengers Assemble has been unveiled online, and it shows just how close mini-heroine Wasp came to being in the movie. The animatic, created by artist Federico D'Alessandro, is a conceptual series of images that storyboards the arrival of Loki's army in New York. That in itself is pretty exciting, but the awesome levels go through the roof with a shot of the Avengers assembled - with Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp hovering among them. Check out the video below… Director Joss Whedon has talked...

Artist Federico D'Alessandro worked on the storyboards for "Iron Man 3." And ever since the film hit theaters, he's been releasing animated versions of them online. One particular scene deals with the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), showing that the original plan for the villain was slightly different. Spoilers Ahead: In "Iron Man 3," Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) learns that the Mandarin is in Miami. But when he confronts him, the violent villain turns out to be nothing more than a cowardly British actor named Trevor Slattery, who was hired by Aldrich (Guy Pearce) to pose as the terrorist. In the end, Trevor is arrested and taken to jail. But according to the storyboards, the original plan was for him to show up in the final battle. As Tony and Rhodey (Don Cheadle) are surrounded, Trevor shows up and injects himself with the Extremis virus. But he doesn't know how to use it and ends up exploding.

Here are some really cool storyboard animatics that were created by artist Federico D'Alessandro for Marvel's Iron Man 3, one of which gives us a look at an explosive alternate ending for Ben Kingsley's Mandarin! All of the animatics take place on the oil rig at the end of the film, and there are also a couple of version of Rhodey's dash across the rig. I hope you enjoy these!

Early in The Avengers, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his group go about recruiting the superhero team. After Fury has enlisted Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) help in order to recover the Tesseract from Loki, the film cuts to our first look at Tony Stark/Iron Man. He is underwater attaching a new arc reactor to Stark Tower's power line. But, Federico D'Alessandro's first animatic below, shows a much different intro for Iron Man. In the early version Iron Man would've fought never-used supervillain with Man with no arms and no legs. At the end of each nub, is some sort of attachment device. As the clip plays out you will see the amputee attach robotic hands and legs, thus making him a supervillain. In this second clip, Iron Man makes his introduction earlier in the film, just after Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has escaped with the cube, and his mind-controlled lackeys,...

Storyboard artist, Federico D'Alessandro, has uploaded his Iron Man 3 animatics, that features scenes with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Rhodey (Don Cheadle), and Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). That animatic with Trevor is the most tantalizing. As you remember, Tony figures out that the Mandarin is in Miami and he confronts this supposedly nasty villain. But, there's a twist! The man who has appeared on television as the Mandarin is actually a British actor with a substance abuse problem, named Trevor Slattery. Trevor, was hired by Aldrich (Guy Pearce) to pose as the terrorist mastermind, the Mandarin. The last time we see Trevor, he seems to be enjoying his fame, basking in the attention as he is hauled off to jail through a an angry crowd of onlookers. But, originally the plan was to have Trevor show up at the impounded oil drilling platform. The location used throughout the...

I enjoy seeing pre-production work and concept art for films. This kind of stuff plays a huge part in developing a film, yet it's stuff a lot of people don't really think about. Artist Federico D'Alessandro created this amazing animatic for Iron Man 3 that envisioned how the epic mansion attack would play out. What's cool about this is the animatic is almost exactly what we ended up seeing in the movie, and it was done way before they started shooting. Here's a statement from the artist in which he talks about his experience making it.
I worked on Iron Man 3 as the Lead Storyboard Artist and Animatics Supervisor, and during that time I created a lot of fun animatics. This was my favorite one, and was translated to the final film pretty closely!
I met with Shane Black very early during pre-production to discuss this scene. Even in the early stages,...

It's pretty safe to say we've reached a point where future Halloween installments just don't do it for us anymore. They did the remake with Rob Zombie, and followed it up with a messy sequel, and you know this sucker is on life support when they announce a third one in 3D. It's like you imagine these sequels getting the go-ahead simply by some bored studio exec saying, "Eh, I guess we'll do it. Why not?" Today, however, there's a very interesting Halloween remake pitch reel floating around, created by Federico D'Alessandro, who's a storyboard artist and animatics supervisor at Marvel Studios, having worked on several of their films like Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 3 and more. D'Alessandro created this short video -- itself an...

There's been a lot of buzz surrounding films that could have been and may never be, especially when it comes to something like Joe Carnahan's seemingly defunct take on Daredevil or Kevin Tancharoen's pitch for The Hunger Games. Now we have another treat in the same vein, as SlashFilm recently debuted a pitch video for a proposed Halloween remake that was turned down in favor of Rob Zombie delivering his divisive new spin on the horror classic. Federico D'Alessandro, head Storyboard Artist and Animatics Supervisor at Marvel Studios (Thor, Captain America, The Avengers), put together an amazing animatic short and keyframes to try and sell his pitch to Platinum Dunes. This should really impress Halloween fans. Here's the original animatic video and some of the keyframes used to pitch the Halloween remake: And here's what D'Alessandro said about this now dead Halloween remake pitch (from YouTube): """As...

The Weinstein Company has been planning to reboot the "Halloween" franchise, but failed to get it off the ground. At one point Platinum Dunes (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) was on board to help, but talks eventually fell apart. Now comes word that Federico D'Alessandro, a storyboard artist for such films as "The Avengers" and "I Am Legend," put together a video pitch to Platinum Dunes in hopes of getting the chance to direct the reboot. Since the project never came together, the pitch was ignored, which is why he has now put it up online. "As a lifelong 'Halloween' fan it would be a dream to direct a reboot of the franchise that's so near and dear to my heart," he explained. "I created this [video] to show the tone and storytelling that I would bring to the project if I were lucky enough to have that chance.
