Anthony Anderson presented Legend and the segment, saying, “It never feels like the right time to say goodbye to a loved one, a friend or a cherished icon.”
He added. “To quote Shakespeare, ‘All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players, they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts.’ As we acknowledge the legends within our industry will pass on, we celebrate all that they created and shared with the world. May they rest in peace and power.”

Producers of this Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony have some difficult decisions to make about who to honor during the emotional In Memoriam segment. As the second season of "Bridgerton" drew to a close, we got a lot of answers to questions brought up during the season: Who does Anthony end up with? Does Eleanor figure out who Lady Whistledown is? What will happen to Kate Sharma? But with those answers, we got one final question: who is Carole Prentice? Before the credits rolled on the finale episode, a message on the screen read, "In memory of Carole Prentice." It was the second dedication of the season, after the first episode was dedicated to hairstylist and makeup artist Marc Pilcher. Here's why Netflix dedicated an episode to Prentice.
Who Is Carole Prentice?
Prentice was a life coach and producer who worked in the TV and film industry for years, according to Metro. She spent much of her life moving around, spending time in South Africa, Dubai, and England.
On "Bridgerton" specifically, Prentice worked as a Covid-19 coordinator.

As the credits roll at the end of the season two premiere of "Bridgerton," you may notice a card dedicating the episode to the memory of Marc Pilcher. While you might not recognize his name right off the bat, Pilcher was instrumental in creating the vibrant visual world of "Bridgerton" and setting the tone we all know and love.
Pilcher was the hair and makeup designer for the first season of the Netflix series, creating distinctive looks for the characters and for the entire heightened, Regency-romance world. In fact, he and the rest of the "Bridgerton" hair and makeup team won the Emmy for outstanding period and/or character hairstyling at the 2021 Creative Arts Emmys. His résumé extended over two decades and included work on many notable projects, from "Downton Abbey" (both the TV series and the first movie) and the live-action "Beauty and the Beast" to multiple Star Wars movies and much more.

Who will be included for the special “In Memoriam” segment for Sunday night’s Oscars 2022 ceremony? For almost all other Academy Awards productions since the 1990s, producers typically select 40-50 people from the various branches. The 2021 segment had close to 100 people in a particularly fast-paced three minutes that was not very well-received since many of them were only on screen for a second or two.

One thing Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) didn’t seem to have in her 1800s societal gossip pamphlets is how the various men and women get their hair game on before heading to all those afternoon teas and fancy balls. Enter “Bridgerton” department head hairstylist Marc Pilcher, who received his first Emmy nomination for the Netflix series (following an Oscar nomination for the Saoirse Ronan-Margot Robbie drama “Mary Queen of Scots”) that captured lots of beating hearts and high-profile ratings over the 2020 Christmas season.

“Bridgerton” debuted Christmas Day of 2020 on Netflix and within weeks became the streaming service’s most watched series in history. More than 80 million households tuned in to see the romantic entanglements of the London upper classes during the Victorian era. The drama’s wild popularity has led to Netflix renewing it for three additional seasons.
Based on the series of novels by Julia Quinn, the first season of “Bridgerton” focuses on the titular family, in particular, oldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor). Daphne enters the world as a debutante who is favored by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and meets Simon (Regé-Jean Page), a duke who refuses to marry. Their turbulent love story is set against the backdrop of the city’s obsession with a scandal-obsessed gossip writer known as Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews), whose identity is revealed to the audience as Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), a warm-hearted but often overlooked young lady.

“When I read the scripts, I like to formulate and help convey [the characters’] personalities,” explains “Bridgerton” hair and makeup designer Marc Pilcher about his work on the Netflix period romance. “It’s really important that you don’t just tell the story through the script, through the acting. 2021 Muah Awards: ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ Are Top Makeup, Hairstyling Winners
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” captured the top period feature prizes for makeup and hairstyling at the 8th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night, making it the prohibitive Oscar favorite for the dramatic transformation of Viola Davis as the titular pioneering blues singer. Davis, who landed her fourth Oscar nomination as the sexy, subversive Rainey — the most of any Black actress — was boldly uncompromising in demanding verisimilitude for Netflix’s adaptation of the August Wilson play. Davis was fitted with gold teeth, charcoal-like makeup, and a wig made of horsehair.

2020 Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards nominations: ‘Bombshell,’ ‘Rocketman,’ ‘Joker’ lead
The Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild got a jump on the Oscars by announcing its nominations on November 11. That is two months earlier than last year, when the slate was revealed midway through Oscar nominations voting. This year, the guild is out of the gate five weeks before the academy unveils the shortlist in nine categories, including Best Makeup and Hairstyling. These awards will be handed out on January 11, which is after Oscar voting but before the nominations are announced.
Two films — “Bombshell” and “Rocketman” — reaped three bids apiece with the Muahs guild. Both contend for special makeup effects. The former figures in both contemporary makeup and hair styling while the latter does likewise on the period/character side.
Six films are two-time nominees: “Dolemite Is My Name,” “Downton Abbey,” “Hustlers,” “John Wick: Parabellum,” “Joker” and “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.”

The other two Academy Awards semi-finalists — the Swedish film “Border” and Luca Guadagnino‘s remake of “Suspiria” — was snubbed by the Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild.
“Vice,” which we are predicting will win the Oscar, contends in period/character makeup as well as special makeup effects while its closest Academy Awards rival, “Black Panther” is up for just special makeup effects. Our third-place Oscar contender “Mary Queen of Scots” vies for both period/character makeup and hairstyling

At the Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards on Feb. 24, Oscar frontrunner “Darkest Hour” won two of its three races: special makeup effects and best period/character makeup. It lost best period/character hairstyling to “I, Tonya.”
Among those films that “Darkest Hour” edged out for best special makeup effects was “Wonder,” one of its two Oscar rivals for Best Makeup & Hairstyling. That film contended on the contemporary side here and lost its bid for hairstyling to “Pitch Perfect 3″ and makeup to “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.” The third Oscar nominee, “Victoria and Abdul,” was snubbed by the guild.
