Directed by Sam Coyle, Meet the Killer Parents gives away the plot twist in the title itself. So, you can start to watch this flick with detached amusement, as you already know what’s coming. Cashing in on thrillers like Get Out, it feels like the writer Mike Rinaldi planned to do a weird spin on the Jordan Peele film and tried to keep the audience guessing as to why the characters are doing what they are doing. It doesn’t work, let me add, because the performances are so on the nose that we see the twists coming from a mile away.
The plot revolves around Grace, an orphaned young woman who thinks she has found her soulmate in Rob, who is the son of a magnate. She is going to meet his parents Stephen and Miriam Whitby, as a formal introduction. She doesn’t know that the Whitby...

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, contributing editor Sam Eckmann spoke in-depth with Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) about Season 5 of his Amazon Prime Video comedy, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmys. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
The veteran actor portrayed patriarch Abe Weissman for five seasons, the father of Miriam (Rachel Brosnahan) and husband of Rose (Marin Hinkle). In the final episodes, Abe finally tells his daughter that he’s “proud” of the rough road she took to become a stand-up comic in the 1950s. Shalhoub won three Emmy Awards for “Monk” and another for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (supporting in 2019).
Looking back on the show as a whole, Shalhoub told us in our webchat, “We were not ready to let it go. But having seen Season 5 now, I feel they couldn’t have ended it in a better way.

The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering Housebound was Written by Eric Walkuski, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
In January of 2023, cinemas were invaded by M3GAN, a horror-comedy about a feisty, and murderous, android companion that brought a fun new spin to the killer doll genre. While the film was a surprise hit at the box office, it had been in development for quite a while, dating back to the pre-pandemic days of 2018. Intriguingly, its director, Gerard Johnstone, had only one feature film under his belt up until that point. That feature was Housebound (watch it Here), a twisty, humorous thriller that deftly combined chills with laughs. M3GAN producers James Wan and Jason Blum were both thoroughly impressed by the tightrope the movie walked, and found Johnstone was perhaps...

“I was sort of blown away by how much I was feeling about saying goodbye to the cast. And also truly I was really having a hard time saying goodbye to Rose as I watched her,” says Marin Hinkle about watching the series finale of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The Amazon comedy recently wrapped up its fifth and final season. Thanks to several time jumps in the story, the actress was able to explore her character many years into the future. The experience asked the actress to explore how Rose evolved emotionally and professionally over the course of her life. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
In Episode 7, entitled “A House Full of Extremely Lame Horses,” Hinkle appears in a poignant flash-forward scene which depicts Rose struggling to film a commercial for her matchmaking business. The actress is aged up with transformative prosthetic makeup, which Hinkle admits she wanted to...

We have come to the end.
On The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Episode 9 -- the series finale -- Midge Maisel finally gets her big break, performing her stand-up act live on The Gordon Ford Show.
It was a super-sized finale with plenty of excitement, heartbreaking moments, and, as always, laughs.
This episode saw the return of many characters, some we haven't seen much of (or at all) this season. We had Mrs. Moskowitz (hard-working as always), Alfie (in a cute little blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment), Imogene (we've missed you!), and of course, Lenny Bruce.
The episode starts off with Lenny's infamous Basin Street West performance. He would die the following year.
I was born famous.
Lenny Bruce Permalink: I was born famous. Added: May 25, 2023
The heartbreaking thing is, and this is a strange "reality" to think about, but if Midge had been able to go in, she probably would have been able...

When hanging out with your nerdy pals, there's a chance that one question will enter the conversation: "Which is the superior Hollywood Chris?" Most of your friends will be "Saturday Night Live"-avoiding Chris Evans fans since he's the All-American hunk, while others might side with "Extraction" franchise star Chris Hemsworth, as he's the perfect blend of a Golden Retriever and a Ken doll. And though there are other stars named Chris to choose from (including the dinosaur-fighting Pratt), there's one Chris that deserves the most respect: Chris Pine.
With his classic-meets-avant-garde aesthetic, Pine represents those who color outside the lines, enjoy lavender lattes with an extra shot of espresso, and listen to live recordings of Fleetwood Mac on rainy days. He's a performer who is immensely talented as an actor but also possesses the kind of dreamy singing voice that is impossible not to swoon over. Plus, Pine isn't afraid to laugh at himself,...

As the release date for “Extraction 2” gets closer, Netflix has unveiled a brand new trailer for the action sequel.
In previously released trailers, it’s understood that Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) has “fought his way back” after being “clinically dead nine months ago” following the events of the original 2020 action hit.
Now, the main trailer questions why — “You just have to find out why,” Nik Kahn (Golshifteh Farahani) tells Tyler. Khan is a Private Military Contractor and ally of Rake.

As if seeing him in Adrenaline wasn’t enough, Louis Mandylor is back in Crossfire, another film about an FBI agent dealing with the revenge killing of a family member. This time he plays F.B.I. Agent Mark Patson. Patson is in the news for saving several women from human traffickers.
The last time he was in the news was for taking down the Gorilla Gang. That resulted in the death of his wife in a revenge killing, something his daughter Alisha has never forgiven him for. Now however she’s coming home over school holidays and he’s determined to do whatever it takes to reconnect with her, starting with resigning from the Agency. Give it up for the marvelous Ms. Myerson!
On The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Episode 6, Susie finally gets her due for being the best damn manager in show business.
The show is careening towards its finale with (even more!) new characters and enough time jumps to make your head spin.
This episode will likely be polarizing for viewers. Some may love it, applauding its ambitious narrative style, while others may hate it, finding it too convoluted to enjoy.
Like many of the Susie stories told by the comedians after the ceremony, the truth likely lies somewhere in between.
Seeing Susie acknowledged and praised was satisfying, but seeing how bitter and jaded she'd become was hard.
This definitely played like a "Best Of" Susie reel. With all the time-jumping, though, we're getting less grounded and more detached from the story set in the present.

The novel, based on a Radio 4 play, is preceded by a quote from Bunyan. The film, in an effort to similarly evoke nested layers of Englishness, has Jim Broadbent. If one digs further, and the earth is rich, Harold and Fry are both of Nordic origin, army-ruler, seed. There's a Rex and a Queenie, more authority, a Maureen, variously diminutive of Mary and amongst others from the Irish 'star of the sea' from the old Egyptian Miriam. There are others, another version of 'Beloved' in David, but there we start to enter the realms of the biblical.
Not a living document, necessarily, but the mixture of state religion and national identity that inflects Anglicism and the English, the speculative fictions of proverbs and Just So, that cloying confection of jam and Jerusalem. Through it travels Harold Fry, an unlikely pilgrim. If one tries to one can readily shift its vowels.

After finishing off March with a look at the body horror aspects incorporated into Stephen Dunn’s Closet Monster, we kicked off April with a journey into the weird and wild world of Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer. This week, we’re revisiting Tony Scott‘s iconic 1983 vampire film The Hunger.
The Hunger sees John (David Bowie), the lover of the gorgeous immortal vampire Miriam (Catherine Deneuve), begin to quickly deteriorate into a horrible living death, so Miriam seeks a new companion. She soon sets her sights on Sarah (Susan Sarandon), a young gerontologist, who quickly falls under Miriam’s spell. However, Sarah doesn’t warm up to the concept of vampirism very easily, leading to conflict with Miriam.

Enormous critical acclaim is nice, I’m sure. It is, after all, what television writers and actors aspire to. But there’s also a joy in being a sleeper hit; a cult show that cruises under the radar but develops an obsessed following. Less glamorous, though, is programming that achieves middling commendations, medium admiration. Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is in this latter category: good reviews, a smattering of Emmys, and decent audiences on Amazon’s streaming service can’t hide the fact that Amy Sherman Palladino’s late-1950s comedy-drama has always been a touch unloved. As the curtain comes down with its fifth and final series, is it time to reappraise one of the warmest, wittiest shows of recent years?
Sailor-mouthed comedienne Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) is back, dealing with the fallout of her fling with fellow stand-up Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby). But more than anything, she...

Got something you’d like to ask the flugelhorn-tooting forensic scientist and all-round star of stage and screen? Send it our way and we’ll put it to her
You might think of her as forensic scientist Eve Lockhart from BBC series Waking the Dead, or as Queen Selyse Baratheon in Game of Thrones, but Tara Fitzgerald is a long-termer when it comes to film. Her first big role was in Peter Chelsom’s 1991 nightclub comedy Hear My Song, after which she went on to a couple of roles opposite Hugh Grant: Sirens in 1994 and The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain in 1995. In between the two she was in A Man of No Importance with Albert Finney. Then came the flugelhorn-tooting Brassed Off, and the Czech war film Dark Blue World. More recently she played Miriam in Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings.

This post contains spoilers for "Children of Men."
One of the greatest movie scenes of the 21st century comes early in the dystopian sci-fi masterpiece "Children of Men," as five characters pile into a car for what initially seems like a blissful ride. Though the near future they inhabit is beset by human infertility, all is going well as our protagonist, Theo (Clive Owen), wakes from a backseat nap and begins playing a game with the mother of his late child, Julian (Julianne Moore). She turns from the passenger's seat, and they blow a ping pong ball back and forth, laughing right up until the moment when a flaming car comes rolling downhill ahead of them, followed by a band of marauders, the Zeds.
What follows next is the kind of movie scene the phrase "tour de force" was invented for. As they took to the road in a modified Fiat Multipla,...

On Monday night, E4 launched a new dating show that involved fairytale fancy dress, power ballad singing and catapults.
My Little Princess is the latest in a long history of bonkers dating shows that have made it to the small screen and in tribute to the TV commissioners who considered them wise ideas and in any way romantic, we've collected together our 15 personal favourites.
My Little Princess
Men dressed as princes, who must impress an evil king to secure a date with his daughter. Standard. Throw in lots of mud, talking horses, power ballad sing-offs and men being thrown off bridges.
