Having a hissable, recurring villain adds that special something to any TV procedural.
Elijah Stone has been filling that role on The Rookie, tormenting members of the LAPD's Metro Division over the past two seasons (although it feels longer).
Sadly, complex villains such as Stone have recently become less of a thing on broadcast TV.
Let's look at the famed Hawaii Five-0 villain, Wo Fat, as a case study.
During the series' original run, Wo Fat was a crime boss, a red Chinese spy who answered to Peking (it was a different time) and served as the primary enemy of Steve McGarrett (played by Jack Lord).
Wo Fat (portrayed by Khigh Dhiegh) hung like a dense fog over that version, appearing in 15 episodes over nine of the show's 12 seasons.
In the rebooted series, Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) was a crime boss and former Chinese Ministry of Interior agent. appeared...

Don’t get us wrong, the Australia-set NCIS: Sydney, premiering Stateside this Tuesday on CBS, boasts a terrific cast, and one that is 66% Australian (plus two Brits).

Hawaii Five-0 ran for ten seasons after debuting in 2010, and it’s evident that there is no replacing these iconic characters led by Steve McGarrett, played by Alex O’Loughlin. The series served as a reboot of the fan-favorite TV show of the same name which ran from 1968 to 1980. Both shows acquired devoted and dedicated fan based during their runs. The reboot, which was a critical success, was applauded for showcasing more of the Hawaiian culture and landscape. It didn’t hurt that the cast was filled with attractive actors that brought viewers in as they worked on solving a...

Jennifer Lopez is used to doing intimate scenes with her co-stars since it comes with the territory in the film industry. But she made sure that her ex-husband wasn’t allowed to see those kinds of scenes up close.

Lopez may have been experienced when it came to love scenes. But she also didn’t mind letting her directors know if she felt uncomfortable at times. Her limits when doing love scenes would change based on her maturity.

The Holiday is a Christmas classic. A cosy romcom set between snow-covered Surrey and sunny Los Angeles, the film tells the story of two women, Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), who decide to swap houses for the festive season.
With each in a new place, and both having sworn off love thanks to terrible experiences, Iris and Amanda somehow both managed to find “the one”, as well as learn new things about themselves along the way.
Miles (Jack Black) and Graham (Jude Law) are everything you want and more in romcom love interests. Funny, kind, and vulnerable, the two men are the perfect choices for Iris and Amanda, respectively.
However, there are a number of other actors who either cameo or appear in some of their earliest film roles.
Here are the ones you might not remember.

In 2004, if you were a handsome young actor from the British Isles (or thereabouts) with any degree of notoriety, you were in the running to succeed Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Producer Barbara Broccoli cast the widest of nets, bringing in the likes of Henry Cavill, Ewan McGregor, Rupert Friend, and the man who was almost Wolverine, Dougray Scott, to audition. They even considered Aussies like Sam Worthington, Julian McMahon, and Alex O'Loughlin. And if Ralph Fiennes is to be believed (and what kind of maniac wouldn't believe Ralph Fiennes), you can scratch the "young" part of the requirement as well.

Daniel Dae Kim is reflecting on the lack of Asian-American representation in Hollywood.
The “Lost” icon and “Hawaii Five-o” alum opened up about teaching his children to appreciate when Asian stars are onscreen, in everything from a commercial to blockbuster movies.
“When my kids are watching shows, my wife and I always did this natural thing, which was whenever there was an Asian face on screen, to point it out to say, ‘Look,'” Kim told Esquire. “Just by doing that, it kind of created a dynamic where you would notice when you didn’t see it.”
One of the shows Kim in which saw no Aapi representation? “Friends.”
“My kids loved ‘Friends’ because they would watch repeats and they would say to me, ‘Hey, how come in their New York everyone is white?'” Kim continued. “‘Thank you for thinking about that,’ I would tell them. Because it’s true.

Exclusive: Former top ICM talent and literary agent John Burnham, who left earlier this month to become a manager and partner at Atlas Artists and Atlas Literary, has signed Alex O’Loughlin as a client.
This marks a reunion for the duo. Burnham represented O’Loughlin for years as an agent and facilitated the actor’s casting as the lead of CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot, which ran for 10 seasons. Soon after the Hawaii Five-0 pilot had been picked up to series in 2010, O’Loughlin left ICM to follow Chris Hart, who had been an agent on his team, to UTA. The actor, who most recently did not have a manager, continues to be repped by UTA.

It's been four years since Daniel Dae Kim exited Hawaii Five-0, and the actor is now speaking out about it.
Kim and co-star Grace Park sought salary parity with Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan, but they both exited the series at the close of Hawaii Five-0 Season 7 when the network did not give them the same salary as their co-stars.
Kim chatted with Vulture about what went down while also revealing that he took a significant pay cut from Lost to Hawaii Five-0.
“One thing that has never really properly been reported is the amount of pay cut I took to do Hawaii Five-0 from Lost,” he said, adding:
“It was drastic, and it was never made up.”
His aim when his original contract with Hawaii Five-0 was coming to an end at the close of Season 7 was to make up the "significant" difference in pay between him and O’Loughlin and Caan.

It's been one week since we waved goodbye to Hawaii Five-0, and more details are creeping out about the series finale of the CBS drama.

In the fall of 2010, Peter M. Lenkov took a big gamble, re-envisioning a well-remembered police procedural from the past for new generations.
It was a bet that paid off big time as Hawaii Five-0 said "Aloha" after 10 seasons on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 22.
Reboots are a tricky business as creators are messing with viewers' sense of nostalgia.
Five-0 is undoubtedly the most successful reboot. Other top-notch efforts include One Day at a Time, Battlestar Galactica, Charmed, Roswell, Dynasty, and Lost in Space.
Consigned to the scraphead of history are such messes as Charlie's Angels and Bionic Woman.

As you prepare to say aloha to CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 on April 3, how well do you remember first saying aloha to the high-octane reboot? Take our quiz and find out.
It was a little over nine-and-a-half years ago when TV’s second iteration of Five-0 made its debut, then airing Mondays at 10/9c (where it led out of a sitcom block that included How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly). Ever since it got announced that Hawaii Five-0 was coming to a close following Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 22, fans have been wondering what really went into the decision to end the series.
Many thought that it was down to Alex O'Loughlin's desire to move on after struggling with the physical demands of the series following an injury.
Others felt like CBS pulled the plug on the series, but given that the ratings remained strong on Fridays this season, it certainly seemed like it could be a case of the cast wanting out.
Ten years is a great run in an industry that is filled with shows that are cut short after one or two seasons, so it's great the series made it to a decade.
In an interview with TV Line, showrunner M. Lenkov admitted that he always planned out season finales as though they were series finales.

Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov says he often planned out his season finales as if they might need to end the series as well, the TV business being unpredictable as it is. That prudence paid off this time around, as Friday’s Season 10 finale will bring the CBS reboot’s run to a thrilling, highly emotional close.
“I thought we had a chance of maybe going another season — every season, I thought for some reason the show would end — but I think the network just thought it was a good time” to wrap things up, Lenkov shared during an in-depth conversation with TVLine.

It's the end of an era.
Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 22 serves as the series finale of the iconic CBS series, and while many fans may not be ready to say goodbye, it looks like the series is going out in style.
Appropriately titled "Aloha," the milestone episode finds Danny worse for wear after being abducted and left for dead.
Would CBS really allow the series to conclude with Danny dying? It would be quite the twist, but this is the series finale.
What we do know is that recurring cast members James Marsters (Victor Hesse), William Sadler (John McGarrett), and Mark Dacascos (Wo Fat) return during the goodbye episode.
Many fans have been worried that the series will not get a conclusive goodbye because of how late the decision to end the series came.
But it's hard to imagine a 10-year-old series wrapping without a big farewell planned.
Here's the official press release from CBS.

Well, that was a peek at what will never be.
Lincoln Cole unofficially joined the task force on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 21.
It's going to be a short tour of duty, which will end with the series finale on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 22.
A little more than a month ago, it was widely rumored that Lance Gross would become a series regular on Hawaii Five-0 Season 11.
But things change, as it was announced the show was ending shortly after that.
Based on this episode, Lincoln would have been an intriguing addition to the team.
But if Alex O'Loughlin or Scott Caan were through, Hawaii Five-0 needed to be done as well.
There's just no replacing either Steve or Danny.
Lincoln got a solid introduction nevertheless.
A mysterious good Samaritan rescues a woman and her son from a pair of bank robbers, killing one of them.

It's starting to feel like everything's getting crammed in at the last minute.
More items got marked off the series-ending checklist on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 19.
First off was Jimmy Buffett making one last appearance as chopper pilot Frank Bama.
Last seen on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25, Frank wasn't piloting anything this time out.
Instead he was making breakfast in McGarrett's kitchen after a long night.
He listened to Junior ramble on about Tani and taught him his special waffle mix for the next time he needed to make up with her.
Unfortunately, despite a case that took Five-0 out into Oahu's ranchlands, there wasn't any place for Frank and his copter there, since the trees were too dense.
Still, it's always enjoyable when there's a historical aspect to any case, especially when it's obscure history. That was what indirectly led to the murder of a rancher, or a paniolo,...

Everyone got into the action, even Rick from another series.
Most importantly, the Adam storyline finally, finally got tied up on Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 18.
In, what, like 10 minutes? Like Tptb said, "Enough already. No one is liking this concept."
The masked gunmen sneaking into his building, and he wiped them out before Five-0 could even respond to "shots fired."
In the end, Adam wasn't on a secret mission for some other police agency, or working on something that McGarrett had him doing on the side.
Nothing like those possibilities, which at least made some limited sense.
Nope, it was just Adam taking on a rogue mission, trying to bring down Kenji and get justice for Masuda.
Well, he got his cathartic moment, arresting Kenji while Five-0 picked off a handful of his thugs, the gang that couldn't shoot straight.
That's all well and good. But Steve was right to...
