Former President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the White House state dinner on Thursday. The list of distinguished guests included former President and First Lady Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, actor LeVar Burton, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and more. Around 500 people attended the event on the White House’s South Lawn.
The White House welcomed Kenyan President William Ruto and first lady Rachel Ruto. Other notable Kenyan figures attended, as did the Rutos’ three daughters. President Joe Biden honored the Rutos in his toast and quoted former President Jimmy Carter‘s 1980 speech when another Kenyan president was invited to the White House.
“Neighbors do not share a border but share beliefs,” Biden said. Biden’s speech honored the alliance between the United States and Kenya. A state dinner is one of the most significant ways a president can acknowledge the importance of a foreign power.

With a mission wholly unique at the time, make money while inspiring social change through entertainment, Participant Media managed to rewrite the rules of Hollywood during its all too short 20-year run. The studio singlehandedly proved to the world that you can produce unbelievably great films that have an impact, and audiences will go see them. Most studios and filmmakers working today owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff Skoll and his team of visionaries. That’s why the announcement that the studio will be shutting its doors felt like a gut punch, especially at a time when Hollywood is feeling a bit limp and lifeless.
Amidst the backdrop of faltering democracies, news and information channels that appear polarized, a marathon pandemic, and the proliferation of streaming, entertainment media still stands king as a unifier, capable of bringing together broad swathes of audiences. The NFL’s annual schedule release, which features enticing playoff rematches, made waves with the announcement that its Christmas Day doubleheader will be streamed live on Netflix, marking the company’s biggest foray into live sports.
The league only has two games on the docket Christmas Day compared to its tripleheader last year—the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens head to Houston to face the Texans. Also, since Christmas falls on a Wednesday, that means that there will be NFL games on that day of the week for only the third time since 1946.
Clearly, the NFL was more than willing to buck convention and play on a Wednesday after seeing the massive out-of-home ratings from last year’s tripleheader. Yet the league also sees value in creating exclusive events for streamers as it’s done for Amazon’s Prime...

If you ask Ann Wilson what her favorite Led Zeppelin song is, she’ll answer right away: “The Rain Song.” And if you ask her what led to her first tour in five years with her sister Nancy, she’s just as honest.
“We just got really tired of not playing together, and we both wanted to do a Heart tour,” Ann, 73, tells me. “So then there is this question hanging in the air: Can Heart be Heart without Ann or can Heart be Heart without Nancy? It never could.

The majestic nature and gorgeous animals on display in the series Our Great National Parks, narrated by President Barack Obama, highlights the spaces and corners of this vast world that are still lushly wild and hold the secrets to our health, our wellness and the longevity of humanity. Some of this is the result of rewilding.
To get a better understanding of rewilding and what it means in our ever changing climate, Tudum spoke with Caleb McClennen, vice president of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Global Conservation Program.
What is rewilding?
At its core, rewilding is about restoring what’s been lost. The Canadian Wildlife Confederation explains it as “restoring an area of land to its natural state and possibly reintroducing species that had been driven out or exterminated.”
To break things down further, rewilding introduces specific species — predators or dominant carnivore species like wolves — so that they can help...

The ABC sitcom The Conners was renewed on May 2 for Season 7, which the network has announced will be the show's last.
That final season, which will wrap the series up with an abbreviated order of six episodes, will bring to a close a saga that began in 1988.
We first met the Conners that year on the first season of Roseanne, a long-running series on ABC that ran until 1997.
The series was created by the famous comedian Roseanne Barr, who also starred as a character named Roseanne.
More than 20 years later, Roseanne was revived, with the majority of the original cast, once again on ABC. The revival was a big ratings success that led to its immediate renewal for a second season.

Jeffrey Katzenberg is a man known for choosing his words very carefully most of the time, and tonight the WndrCo boss was pretty candid when it came to Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
“I’ve known Donald Trump for 50 years,” Katzenberg told a well-heeled West Hollywood crowd on Sunday of first meeting the former president and 2024 GOP de facto nominee via his father back in the 1970s. “The only thing I can say is he was a colossal asshole then and nothing has really changed.”
“I’ve known Joe Biden for 40 years, maybe 45 years,” the Biden/Harris campaign co-chair added in contrast. “He is actually one of the most decent human beings I know.”

Some startling rumors emerged shortly after New York Police Department officers — clad in what looked like every piece of riot gear available to the department — stormed Columbia University to forcibly remove and arrest student protesters occupying a campus building.
These weren’t students; these were professional agitators. These skilled infiltrators had used industrial chains to barricade the doors of Hamilton Hall. Even worse, one of the protesters was the wife of a known terror suspect.

Donald Trump’s reaction to last night’s White House Correspondents Dinner shows the much-indicted ex-potus still sucks at being the butt of a joke.

There were many memorable cinematic performances that came from actresses in 1999 (Annette Bening in American Beauty, Samantha Morton in Sweet and Lowdown, Julianne Moore in Magnolia). And then there was a truly iconic turn from Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, the terrifying antagonist in Alexander Payne’s sharp political satire, Election.
A cunning, ambitious and oh-so-annoying foil to her teacher and would-be mentor, Omaha-area social studies instructor Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), Tracy is at times the worst — for example, when her affair with Mr. McAllister’s best friend is discovered, the teenager has no qualms about abandoning him entirely — and in other moments, Tracy can be the absolute best. At least, she insists on that top slot, no matter what: having the highest grades, getting into the best college, winning a high school election — she’s destined for greatness, which in the time Election takes place means winning the office...

Have you ever looked at Donald Trump and pictured him getting down to “Despacito”? Popping his geriatric kneecaps to “God’s Plan”? Well, the Republican National Committee has. The RNC featured both songs in the first installment of a playlist series aimed at generating hype around its 2024 nominating convention, which will take place in Milwaukee this July and crown Trump as the party’s official presidential nominee.
Notably, the playlist features few pro-Trump artists — and none of the cringe-inducing Maga rappers who’ve gone viral debasing themselves in the former president’s name.

Trump Roast
Jury selection might seem like the easy part of one’s criminal trial for falsifying records over an affair with a porn star. But for Donald Trump, on trial for some 32 felony counts of doing just that, Day 2 of his criminal trial was more like a gauntlet of second-hand personal abuse thanks to his lawyers reading out every mocking meme, elaborate insult, or straight-up “F**k You, Donald” potential jurors ever posted on their various social media accounts.
As noted by reporters and documented by sketch artists attending the no-camera-allowed proceedings, Trump did get some respite at times by falling asleep once again for brief periods. But when awake, the defendant was forced to sit and stew (and at one point get scolded by Judge...

Donald Trump, a man renowned for craving adulation and approval, has this week been confronted with the disdain of Manhattanites called as prospective jurors in his New York criminal trial for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. No wonder he’s apparently trying to sleep through the proceedings.
While no jurors were selected on Monday — with dozens excused after indicating they could not be fair and impartial in weighing the 34 felony charges against Trump — seven made the cut on Tuesday. (The...

The U.S. economy added a robust 303,000 jobs in March, well above expectations, as the unemployment rate ticked down to 3.8%.
The latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the pace of job growth still remains hot, despite some predictions of a slowdown. Average hourly earnings increased by 12 cents, or 0.3%, to $34.69. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.1%, above the rate of inflation. The past two months of job gains also were revised upward by 22,000.

The talent behind the upcoming musical The Ghost of John McCain should not save a front row seat at its premiere for the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, as the former cohost of The View and outspoken pundit took to Twitter this week to denounce the forthcoming off-Broadway show, slam its producers and wish it has no success whatsoever.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the show is slated for a fall premiere at New York’s Soho Playhouse. The self-described “serious and satirical musical” was written by Scott Elmegreen with music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola, and its producers include political strategist Jason Rose and Max Fose, a former McCain campaign consultant.
“This is trash,” McCain wrote of the musical, adding that it’s, “Nothing more than a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people…I hope it bombs.”

We've so far been used to former President Barack Obama's Higher Ground production company putting out high-minded and compelling documentaries. With new series Bodkin, though, which stars Will Forte, it appears that it is now heading into Only Murders In The Building territory (spliced here with Ballykissangel?), blending true-crime podcasting with comedy. Check out the first trailer:
Forte here is Gilbert, a charming, open, and enthusiastic podcaster from the States who has family roots that stretch back to Ireland and he's looking to discover his roots. But he gets more than he bargained for when he teams up with Dove (Siobhán Cullen), a hard-nosed investigative journalist from Dublin who has a fine-tuned bullshit detector and a healthy disdain for authority and hypocrisy. Then there's Emmy (Robyn Cara), a bright, funny and eager to please researcher who has been helping Gilbert with the podcast.

Hillary Clinton will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this coming Monday, April 1.
The former Secretary of State, First Lady, and 2016 Presidential nominee is no stranger to Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show: She has appeared on the program six times since 2015.
This will be former Sec. Clinton’s first appearance on a late night talk show since September 2022, when she appeared alongside daughter Chelsea Clinton on Late Night with Seth Meyers, a week after her most recent visit to Fallon.
Clinton and Fallon have a lot to talk about as the 2024 presidential race continues to heat up, with Democratic incumbent Joe Biden facing off against Donald Trump, who defeated Clinton in 2016.
Last night, her husband, former President Bill Clinton was interviewed alongside President Biden and former President Barack Obama by Late Show host Stephen Colbert in a live event at Radio City Music Hall — part of a...

Last week, former President Barack Obama recently paid a visit to President Joe Biden at the White House, where they discussed the upcoming election, voicing concern about Biden’s campaign. Obama’s return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue served primarily as a working visit, as he joined Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a call to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (Aca).
In the call, Obama expressed his belief that Biden’s State of the Union remarks had been effective and resonated with the public. He also highlighted the significance of health care as a politically influential issue in the upcoming election. The campaign has recorded additional content that features both presidents, which will be released in the coming weeks.
Obama voiced his concern again that the Biden campaign needs to take the threat of Donald Trump returning to the White House very seriously.

About a half hour after Joe Biden finished up a give-em-hell type of State of the Union speech, he was still in the House chamber, shaking hands, taking selfies and chatting up other senators in candid moments that were caught on C-Span. The president lingered for so long that some photographers joked that soon the House chaplain may show up to give the next morning’s prayer.
Finally, House Speaker Mike Johnson, still on the rostrum, called an end to the proceedings, and the TV lights dimmed. Biden got the signal that it was time to go, but even then it took him a few more minutes to exit.
The speech and even Biden’s endurance in its aftermath should have provided some reassurance to Democrats fretting about Biden’s age and agility in recent months — as one prominent Hollywood backer put it to me the other day, the term is “freaking out.

The office of Former First Lady Michelle Obama has declared that she has no plans to run for president in this year’s election.
On March 5, Obama’s office ended talks of her possible run for president in a bid to silence frequent speculation and wishful thinking about her taking the Democratic nomination from President Joe Biden.
“As former first lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” Crystal Carson, the communications director of the former first lady’s office, declared in a statement. “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris‘ re-election campaign.”
This statement comes after Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy publicly encouraged the idea that Obama could replace Biden on the ballot.
Many Republicans and conservative commentators fueled speculation that Obama could come in at the last minute,...

Updated: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) said that he is stepping down as the Republican leader in the Senate, ending a tenure longer than anyone else in that position.
McConnell, 82, said on the Senate floor, “This will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.” He said that it was “time to move on,” although he said that he intended to remain in the Senate through the end of his term, which runs through 2027.
Elected in 1984, McConnell has served as Senate leader longer than anyone else, but his future in that position has increasingly been in doubt after a couple of incidents last year when he froze up as he was speaking to reporters. He had been hospitalized earlier in the year after suffering injuries from a fall.
McConnell also has seen increasing fissures in his party on issues that were once a given for Republican support,...

The Beatles‘ “Michelle” is not a provocative song. However, Paul McCartney joked that President Barack Obama might hit him when he performed the tune in front of Michelle Obama. Paul McCartney relaxed when he played The Beatles’ ‘Michelle’ for the Obamas
In 2010, Paul performed for the Obamas at the White House. He joked that the then-president might punch him for performing “Michelle,” a love song about a woman named Michelle. Considering the first lady was right there, the joke became one of the most memorable moments of Paul’s set. It harkened back to the dry jokes that The Beatles would make during interviews in the 1960s.
During a 2010 interview with The Repository, Paul discussed the comment. “It was such a nice,...

In an extraordinary, historic moment, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder performed “Ebony and Ivory” at the White House together for President Barack Obama. Paul revealed what it was like to sing that song for the president. He also revealed what he thought of Obama as a human being.
Paul McCartney loved singing ‘Ebony and Ivory’ for President Obama
In 2010, Obama awarded the “Silly Love Songs” singer the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, an award that is usually reserved for American musicians. During a 2010 interview with The Repository, Paul discussed performing at the White House when he received the award. “One of the highs was singing ‘Ebony and Ivory’ with Stevie because we’d never done it live together, so that was great,” he said.
“To sing it live together for the very first time with the first Black president there, it suddenly gave a great significance to the song,” Paul continued.
