A few thoughts on tonight's The People v. O.J. Simpson coming up just as soon as my stylist turns me into Rick James... How appropriate that we get to wrap up International Women's Day with "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia," The People v. O.J.'s sympathetic mash note to doomed O.J. prosecutor Marcia Clark. It's not straight-up hagiography, as it points out various mistakes Clark made during this period — continuing to dismiss Darden's concerns about letting Mark Fuhrman testify, taking a big stand in court about needing to get home to her kids and then asking her husband to watch them that night (a move that she had to know would blow up in her face, given the contentiousness of the divorce and her new hugely public identity) — but it also illustrates the many challenges she had to face throughout the trial that none of her male counterparts did. It's actually been a little while since we've had a good comedy at the multiplex (sorry "The Hangover Part III"), but Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are hoping to provide some laughs in a few weeks with "The Heat." The concept is simple and promising: the pair play mismatched Boston cops, and hell, we're still not sure what the actual plot is, not that it matters. But until we can weigh in on the movie, it looks like it'll be bringing an interesting batch of tunes to the table. The soundtrack details have dropped for the flick and it varies between bangers and FM classics. In the former category LCD Soundsystem, Santigold, Angel Haze and that ever present "212" by Azealia Banks will test the bass speakers in your local theater, while your Dad will probably dig the selections of Ted Nugent, Boston, Air Supply and April Wine. Bringing some soul...

Occasionally it takes a bit of time for a film to cross the pond, even if its European box office hit like Guillaume Canet's "Little White Lies." But the film finally arrives on U.S. shores later this summer, and it will certainly be helped by the raised profile of its very strong ensemble cast. Starring Marion Cotillard ("The Dark Knight Rises"), Oscar winner Jean Dujuardin ("The Artist"), Francois Cluzet ("The Intouchables") and more, "Little White Lies" is a sprawling "The Big Chill"-style dramedy, following a group of longtime friends who reunite for their annual beach vacation despite a traumatic accident involving one of their own. During their seaside getaway, they all make discoveries about each other and are finally forced to own up to the little white lies they've been telling one another -- and themselves. Featuring a great soundtrack that includes David Bowie, The Isley Brothers,...

I first heard about this project years ago – on a now-defunct and long-forgotten FX show called Sound F/X – which featured Orlando Jones, of all people. Lawrence Fishburne was once set to play Jimi Hendrix, but it never happened. A 2010 attempt to film the rock star’s life – to be directed by Paul Greengrass and backed by Legendary Pictures – was also thwarted when the famously protective Hendrix family denied any access to the man’s iconic music.
Now after some earlir rumors, Deadline reports that one half of OutKast (the fun half, some might say), Andre 3000 (Aka Andre Benjamin) is confirmed to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic called All Is By My Side, to be directed by Three Kings screenwriter John Ridley, based on his original script. The kicker: it will take a sort of prequel approach, depicting the singer-guitarist in his years before he became the psychedelic guitar god we know and love.

Nashville, Tenn. — Charles "Skip" Pitts, the longtime Memphis guitar player for Isaac Hayes whose distinctive sound helped define soul and make "Shaft" cool, has died. He was 65.
Tim Sampson, communication director with the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, said Pitts died Tuesday in Memphis after a long struggle with cancer.
Pitts was responsible for the unforgettable wah-wah pedal guitar sound on Hayes' "Theme from Shaft," the `70s Blaxploitation film that remains a memorable moment in American popular culture – mostly due to the enduring popularity of the song. Skip Pitts, a master of the wah-wah pedal guitar sound whose signature riff on Isaac Hayes’ “Theme From Shaft” captured perfectly the blaxploitation vibe of the 1970s, has died. He was 65. J. Cole was one of the artists who was billed to perform on the first day of 2011 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. The Roc Nation rapper paid homage to his two idols Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. during his set on Thursday, June 9.
"They've got all these incredible rock bands out here that we respect and we love," Cole said. "They get to cover they favorite artist's songs; why the f*** can't we do that?" He then covered the late rapper's 1996 single "I Ain't Mad at Cha", and shouted to the crowd, "Ya'll make some noise for motherf***ing Tupac Shakur."
Cole's tribute to Notorious B.I.G. came when he played "Higher", a track lifted from his "Friday Night Lights" mixtape. The song features The Isley Brothers' "Between the Sheets" which was sampled by Biggie on his classic 1994 hit "Big Poppa".
