Today, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will be pulling out of the historic Paris Accord, an agreement on climate change and environmental policy, signed just over a year ago by then-Secretary of State John Kerry. Every country in the world but Syria and Nicaragua signed the agreement.
It didn’t take long following Trump’s announcement (which he gave jointly with Epa chief Scott Pruitt) for the reactions from famous names to start rolling in.
Politicians, of course, spoke out. Former President Barack Obama said that the U.S. was no longer a global leader when it comes to climate change.

After the fallout from his recent controversy left Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg with neither a partner network nor a programming deal with YouTube, the top YouTube star decided to take his talents to Twitch. There, on a channel called Netglow, he launched the first episode of his weekly web series Best Club on April 9th. Over the course of the broadcast, it brought in 62,000 views, which marks a healthy start for PewDiePie's efforts on Twitch.
The inaugural Best Club episode was hosted by Kjellberg and Brad Smith of the World of the Orange YouTube channel. Their first stream together began with a chatty, informal segment that lasted for about two hours and included lots of props.
Best Club's premiere wasn't quite a Twitch record-breaker, but it was a nice start on Twitch for Kjellberg, who plans to return to the streaming platform each Sunday. On Twitter, the controversial star thanked...

Liverpool have enquired over the availability of Tottenham playmaker and Icelandic international, Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to Caught Offside. Valued at somewhere in the vicinity of £10million, Sigurdsson could be just one of several new recruits to Merseyside in the January transfer window.
Despite being amongst the highest scorers in the 2013 calendar year, Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of Liverpool’s desire to expand their goal scoring prowess as he looks to introduce players who can provide assistance to the mercurial Luis Suarez.
Why is this move a distinct possibility? First and foremost the money is there for Rodgers to spend. He has the complete backing from John Henry and his consortium and all agree that Liverpool needs to add to the squad in each of the upcoming windows. Secondly, Sigurdsson and Rodgers have history together and a reunion could definitely benefit both parties. Gylfi played under...

This is proving to be one of the craziest Premier League seasons in recent memory.
Top of the table on Christmas Day, Liverpool now find themselves fifth in the run-up to New Year’s Day after losing two successive games to title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.
Their latest set-back, against Chelsea, leaves the Reds six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal and outside the top four – though manager Brendan Rodgers remains confident his side can still challenge for top spot.
Rodgers blamed his side’s recent slump on a series of injuries – both Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturrridge are out – while his side was further stretched on Sunday.
Defender Mamadou Sakho suffered a hamstring problem, Joe Allen was forced off on the hour mark and replaced by rookie Brad Smith and Jordan Henderson sustained a knock.

Chelsea came from behind at Stamford Bridge to inflict a second festive defeat on Liverpool. Jose Mourinho triumphed over Brendan Rodgers in the battle between the Special One and his apprentice.
The visitors led through Martin Skrtel’s early opener, but Eden Hazard and Samuel Eto’o struck to ensure the hosts won it. A home win moved the Blues to two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Chelsea were undone by a set piece with three minutes played after Eto’o caught Jordan Henderson on the knee. Luis Suarez met Philippe Coutinho’s delivery, that deflected off Branislav Ivanovic and Reds defender Skrtel snapped up the loose ball.
Simon Mignolet then saved from Eden Hazard at the other end and Slovakia centre back Skrtel almost put through his own net, but Glen Johnson cleared the danger. Hazard then went down in the Liverpool box under Lucas Leiva’s challenge,...

With reality television shows on the rise, MTV and VH1 have traded in showing classic music videos for drunken and barely clothed youngins. Fortunately enough, the days of MTV in the 90s and Total Request Live in the 2000s are deeply ingrained in my mind. The Jersey Shore cast “ain’t got nothing” on those moments in music history, which is fronted by Blind Melon’s “No Rain”. The video, which featured the iconic “Bee Girl”, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Band members, Brad Smith and Christopher Thorn, dropped a remastered version of their self-titled debut and an unreleased “Sippin’ Time Sessions” Ep on April 16th. Click here to get your copy. A group of journalists, academics, activists and digital rights groups have written to the Microsoft-owned Skype and called on it to come clean over alleged eavesdropping on the web telephony service. In an open letter, the signatories say that Skype users face "persistently unclear and confusing statements" about the confidentiality of conversations on Skype, in particular the access governments and third-parties have to Skype data and conversations. Their letter - addressed to Skype division president Tony Bates, Microsoft chief privacy officer Brendon Lynch and Microsoft general counsel Brad Smith - calls on Skype to release a regularly updated Transparency report. The signatories note that Skype has over 600 million users worldwide, effectively making it "one of the world's largest telecommunications companies". Although he’s just 37, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin is seen as a legend in Silicon Valley. That’s why people around the company are jazzed that he just joined the board, filling one seat opened with the departure today of Weather Channel CEO David Kenny and Intuit chief Brad Smith. The two execs “decided to step down … in order to focus on their respective companies,” the company says. The moves leave Yahoo with 11 directors. Levchin was brought aboard with support from Third Point‘s Daniel Loeb, a major investor in the company who won the right this year to nominate four directors in a deal for him to end a proxy fight. This weekend the New York Times published an expose showing one method used by the Russian government to crush opposition from activist groups. And one of our Most Innovative Companies, Microsoft, is tangled up in the story.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's government, along with the Russian office of Microsoft's formidable legal team, has been raiding groups that oppose its policies. During those raids, computers, servers, and other electronic equipment are seized, with data often copied and/or erased before being returned, if the equipment actually is returned (which it often isn't). It's an effective way to stop an activist group in its tracks.
The reason for these raids? The groups are usually accused of using pirated Microsoft software. But the security forces never actually check before confiscating computers to see if there is pirated software on them. The complaints that trigger the raids are often made by shifty third...

The Wall Street Journal makes no bones about the matter: Its report, based on discussions with industry insiders, is headlined "Microsoft Quashed Effort to Boost Online Privacy." The core argument centers around the new version of Ms's "industry leading" browser that hit PCs in 2008: Internet Explorer 8.0. According to several sources close to Ms's management and coders, there was a huge move to differentiate IE8 from the other, increasingly competitive, browsers on the market by making it a champion of user privacy protection. The decision was vetoed, then gutted, by higher level management.
What went on inside Ms sounds like a pitched battle between the Ie engineering team and Ms's executives. The project team created clever code that would automatically protect user ID from websites, intercepting cookies and blocking in-page code running from third-party websites--which may be maliciously (or at least, in contravention of user's desires) tracking their ID or activity on sites.

Up in the Air is one of the best looking movies on Blu-ray that I have seen this year. That may sound surprising given that it is not a special effects bonanza. From the opening sequence of aerial images to the final credits, though, this film is literally a picture of clarity in high-definition. It is not just the imagery that is sharp, too. Aside from a few brief lulls, the script is witty, original and touching, the dialogue is natural and convincing and the acting is top drawer. All that is missing from this release is some in-depth bonus features. A film of this quality cries out for more background material. The lack of it is the only thing that might stop Up in the Air from being one of my Top 10 Blu-ray releases of 2010.
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a calm, composed, charming professional terminator. Employment terminator, that is.

Up In The Air (Blu-Ray)Paramount Home Entertainment2009/Rated R/109 minsNow Available – List Price $39.99Love or hate Jason Reitman for either his quirky films or seemingly self righteous attitude, the man is shaping up to be an incredibly good filmmaker. Reitman could probably learn a lesson or two in humility from his phenomenally successful dad Ivan, but within a short period he's managed to make three good films that have carried more dramatic weight than the comedies that made his father millions. That's not to say Thank You For Smoking and Juno were masterpieces, on the contrary. The latter in my opinion is highly overrated, yet it demonstrated Reitman Jr. has a knack for directing actors in stories more compelling and original than the current crop of major releases. If Reitman weren't so busy tooting his own horn and calling attention to himself he would realize that his works already...

It might not have won the Best Picture, Best Actor or Actress awards at the Oscars, it didn't really to deserve to, but Up in the Air had a lot more going for it than most of the other contenders in 2009. It didn't attempt a blatant tug at the heartstrings like Precious or a full assault on the senses like Avatar, but it had one of the most memorable tones of all. Ryan Bingham's ideal that slowing down in life is equivalent to death holds truth not just for those men and women who revel in the bachelor's life, but for anyone who has made progress and success their ultimate goal. They call it not resting on your laurels, and Up in the Air takes that to heart; despite having Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman at its helm and George Clooney as the lead, it still insists on a fully...

Ryan Bingham lives like a man in transition–he has no wife, no home, or familial trappings. His work consists of visiting employees at their workplace and firing them on behalf of their employer, a big firm who doesn’t want to handle the un-pleasantries.
In some sense, he’s a corporate ’sin eater’–carrying a mantle others would rather pass on, and becoming a kind of social pariah as a result. But Bingham flourishes at his work and and even gives inspirational speeches about how to thrive in the industry. He’s the heartbeat of Jason Reitman’s Up In The Air, a charming pic about a less than charming man that wants to position itself as the new ‘American movie’. It misses this mark, and ends up being simply a good film with a great cast and an ambitious director.

The soundtrack for Up In The Air the Movie, directed by Jason Reitman, features a powerful accoustic number by Chicago singer/songwriter Sad Brad Smith. “Help Yourself” was commissioned by Reitman after hearing Brad singing in a Chicago coffee shop. The song’s become a hit but unfortunately is not eligible for a Oscar nomination for original song as Brad incorporated music from his existing repertoire in the new track.
Up In The Air Soundtrack: Sad Brad- Help Yourself About the Movie: Up in the Air, released in December 2009, is an adaptation of Walter Kim’s 2001 novel of the same name. George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a “corporate downsizer” who makes his living traveling to workplaces and conducting employee layoffs for bosses who lack the nerve to do it themselves. Despite his acquisition of frequent flyer points, his casual approach to relationships has left him empty.

You gotta hand it to Paramount. Many studios would be afraid to pull off what they accomplished Saturday for their new contender "Up in the Air." Along with about 50 other journalists, Awards Campaign trekked on a private American Airlines flight from New York to Los Angeles with star and likely Best Supporting Actress nominee Anna Kendrick and Sad Brad Smith, a new music artist whose song "Help Yourself" plays during the closing credits. While most of the press watched the film once we were airborne (I'd had the pleasure of attending the Toronto Film Festival premiere), I spent a...

Well, it's November, which means the awards contenders are steadily coming out of the woodwork, and just as we have the Academy Awards to look forward to, we also have their fine print to tolerate. The first of this year's disqualifications naturally come from the music end of things, the same category that didn't see fit to honor the tremendous original scores composed for The Dark Knight last year and There Will Be Blood the year before that.
According to Kris Tapley over at In Contention, both "Up in the Air" and "Help Yourself" from Jason Reitman's Up in the Air have been pulled out of the Best Original Song race. The former was written by Kevin Renick before he met Reitman (the song is presented in the film as it was presented to the filmmaker, with homemade introduction and all), not to mention that it comes halfway into...

Yesterday, we reported that popular personal finance site Mint.com would be sold to Intuit for $170 million, just a few weeks after Founder and CEO Aaron Patzer closed a fresh $14 million round of "preemptive" funding. "We could have continued on independently, for sure," Patzer says. "But I was interested in the number of users we could get our innovations out to." (Patzer, below, courtesy Mint.com.)
Intuit has a total user reach of upwards of 36 million people between all its online and desktop products, while Mint boasts only about 1.4 million users online. Marketshare, however, wasn't the only impetus; Patzer says that Intuit's back-end will give Mint a lot of power it didn't have before. "Mint right now is pretty much a read-only system, which means it'll tell you when your credit card is due, but it won't let you pay the credit card off," he says. "Intuit has all those facilities: bill pay,...

Instead of forcing everyone to change the way they shower in order to conserve water, how about using the natural, habitual actions taken in the shower to do it instead? That's the idea behind Oli, a line of concept products that help to conserve water with minimal effort on the behalf of its users. A pressure-sensitive shower mat allows water to flow only when the user is close to the shower head, switching off as they step back to shampoo or soap up. A monitor in the shower shows how many gallons have been used, as well as shower time and gently reminds about both using ambient lighting.
Finally, a seat in the shower provides a place to sit (for ladies, a great place to shave!) while collecting greywater that can be pulled out using portable containers. Showering is the greatest waste of indoor water use, according to the designers--finalists...
