Indie Horror Month may be winding down, but that doesn't mean our love for and support of indie filmmakers is going anywhere, and one such project we're keeping an eye on is Dave Reda's new short film Love Potion #8. Read on for a casting update and the first bit of artwork.
As Reda told us previously, "[It's] the story of a guy who is of course a total flop with chicks so he goes to see a gypsy who tires to give him love potion #9, but it's a bit too expensive for him. So while she is in the back looking for something cheaper, he decides to steal love potion #8. Horrible things ensue..."
Dave co-wrote the script with Jon Rosenberg and will direct. Cast members signed on so far include Brooke Lewis (Ms. Vampy, Slime City Massacre), Jessica Cameron (who will also appear in Reda's upcoming feature Shadow), Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet,...

Dave Reda is a filmmaker who has this cool new horror/comedy short out called “Horror of Our Love” and it’s totally great and one of the most original shorts I’ve seen as of late. As promised, today we bring you the exclusive online debut of Dave Reda's killer romantic horror comedy short film "The Horror of Our Love" to close out Dread Central's Indie Horror Month celebration.
"The Horror of Our Love" twists the normal love story back until it breaks! Imagine Jason, Freddy, or Michael Myers using everything in their slaughtering, slicing, and dicing arsenal ... to impress a girl. Be among the first to laugh out loud, while squirming in your seat, to one of the most unique short films in recent horror history.
It was filmed in San Jose, California, using local crew and actors including Kate Melia as the Girl, Karl Schweitzer, Dan Wilson, Peter Redman, and Reda himself as Melia's "horrifying" love interest. For a taste of the music utilized in the film, visit the band Ludo's official site.

Writer/director/actor Dave Reda has made a name for himself over the last few years with his indie genre projects including Bit Parts and his most recent effort, Horror of Our Love (which screened recently as part of the Los Angeles Comedy Festival).
We recently caught up with Reda (of Elfwtin Fillms) to find out what his top five indie genre projects are. Check them out below!
1. Hate* (*A Comedy) (Drew Daywalt and David Schneider)
This is one of my most favorite short films... A deadly vengeful speaking chicken and poison chimichangas?? This one is so well made and a total blast. Drew also is the director of the insane short film Polydeus, which is a crazy film centered around an 80's video game. The make-up on the creature is fantastic, too.
2. Death In Charge (Devi Snively)
This is such a cool short film, very well made, and an unusual Grim Reaper.

Everyone's getting slaughtered in the pub tonight!
Slaughtered is a classic slasher horror, backed by a love story and set in an outback pub. It is simple and savage, but with a unique twist. Slaughtered is an independent horror film that combines love, horror and gore in a slasher style narrative. The story follows a masked killer who stalks an isolated pub in a small town known as Sutton Forest. The body count rises as night falls, slowly eliminating who the killer might be and leaving the remaining few to fight to stay alive.

"Horror of Our Love", a short film by Dave Reda and Elftwin Films, has been making the festival rounds - and winning awards at many of them. And it's scheduled to screen at two additional fests in California during the month of August. To celebrate, Dave and Elftwin are offering Dread Central readers the chance to win a prop utilized in the film: a severed arm holding flowers. Read on for the details.
There are three steps to winning the arm you see below:

Michelle Fatale is a young California based filmmaker, quite possibly the future of the horror genre and my latest crush. She directs, writes, produces, edits, acts and she even does photography and is also a musician. Michelle has been a featured journalist on several well known horror web sites. She has produced several short films including the multi-award winning short 'The Cleaner' and she owns her own production company Chopping Block Films. Michelle was gracious enough to let me ask her a few questions and we talked about her films and other projects she's done, what's up next for her, her love and passion for the horror genre and Reese's Cups. Michelle has recently joined Comic Book Divas upcoming web series 'Goldilocks in Zombie Land', she'll be playing Queen Rapunzel's bodyguard "Mary Lamb".

In late February we gave you a behind-the-scenes look at "Horror of Our Love", a new short film by Dave Reda and Elftwin Films. Now You can be one of the first to get an exclusive sneak peek of the biggest horror short/music video of 2010. Featuring music by the awesome and twisted band Ludo, this sucker rocks!
Imagine Jason, Freddy, or Michael Myers using everything in their slaughtering, slicing, and dicing arsenal ... to impress a girl. Be among the first to laugh out loud, while squirming in your seat, to one of the most unique short films in recent horror history.
Critics (including yours truly) are going crazy for this hilarious, gory, bloody, macabre breath of horrific air:
"As the old adage goes, good things come in small packages...and...we found one: Elftwin Films’ 'Horror of Our Love,' a romantic horror comedy that twists the normal love story back until it breaks!

As the old adage goes, good things come in small packages, so here at Dread Central we're always on the lookout for standout short films that deliver the goods, and this weekend we found one: Elftwin Films' "Horror of Our Love", a romantic horror comedy that twists the normal love story back until it breaks!
Producer/director/actor Dave Reda (Bit Parts, review here) sent over a copy of "Hool" for us to see, and while he wants to keep most of the details under wraps for a bit while he submits the combination short film/music video to most of the major genre film fests, he did provide us with a still along with a couple of behind-the-scenes photos. For more, including a video of outtakes, be sure to befriend Dave Reda on Facebook, and hit up the Elftwin Films website, too, while you're at it.
