Major record labels are implementing new restrictions in order to deter artists from re-recording their music à la Taylor Swift.
As Billboard reports, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group have recently overhauled contracts for their new signees, with some prohibiting artists from re-recording their music until 10 years — or more — after they’ve left the label.
“The first time I saw [Umg’s new contracts], I tried to get rid of it entirely,” attorney Josh Karp told Billboard. “I was just like, ‘What is this? This is strange. Why would we agree to further restrictions than we’ve agreed to in the past with the same label?’”
Until now, artists on major record labels who wanted to re-record their music typically had to wait five to seven years after releasing the original, or two years after their contract with the label expired. As a refresher: After music...

Switchfoot continues rolling out the deluxe edition of The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) with a cover of the album’s title-track by the Jonas Brothers. Switchfoot released a re-recorded take on their hit 2003 album earlier this year.
The Jonas Brothers’ take on “The Beautiful Letdown” is very faithful, with Nick and Joe delivering the song in their distinctly angelic vocals. They’re a perfect fit for this track, likely because of their long fandom of Switchfoot and this particular album.

Earlier this year, Switchfoot took a cue from Taylor Swift and put out what they called “our version” of their 2003 album, The Beautiful Letdown. Now they’re expanding it into a deluxe edition filled with cover versions by the Jonas Brothers, Ryan Tedder, Owl City, and Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots, among others. “To hear our friends and heroes singing these songs of ours — such legendary voices, such amazing talent — it’s truly a wonderful, strange gift,” Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman said in a statement.
The deluxe edition will come out on Sept.

Another trip on the nostalgia train takes us to Switchfoot, who are commemorating the 20th anniversary of their biggest album The Beautiful Letdown with a re-recorded version, due out May 5th. Along with the announcement comes tour dates for Summer 2023.
Titled The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) — following the method of Ms. Swift — the redux features re-recordings of the album’s top tracks like “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move,” among others. The original version of the album was meant to be the band’s major label debut, but unexpected issues led to them release it with an indie label to critical acclaim.
“The journey of The Beautiful Letdown reminded us why we started playing music in the first place,” the band said in a press release. “It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us.

Season 19 of “American Idol” added a twist to round out the Top 10. The reality competition series showcased 10 of the season 18 contestants in a special edition on April 19. Each of them got a chance to sing one song for America’s votes. The winner of this run-off joins the rest of the Top 10 who made the cut on April 18: Alyssa Wray, Caleb Kennedy, Casey Bishop, Cassandra Coleman, Chayce Beckham, Deshawn Goncalves, Grace Kinstler, Hunter Metts and Willie Spence.
Of the 10 comeback contenders, the most likely to win is Arthur Gunn, the season 18 runner-up. He has proven he is popular with “American Idol” viewers, having lost last year’s final to Just Sam in a razor-thin vote. His strongest rivals are Louis Knight, who just missed making the Top 5 and Makayla Phillips who was unlucky enough to be ousted when the Top 11 was pared down to seven. The other contenders in...

After firming up this season’s “Top 9,” American Idol welcomed back 10 finalists from last season for a chance become lucky No. 10. And some of them will need all the luck they can get.
Real talk: Season 19 is an extremely talented group, and only a few of these returning singers were operating anywhere near that level. Maybe it’s because they weren’t used to singing on the main stage, but the whole night was pretty underwhelming.

American Idol is throwing a major curveball at its Season 19 contestants: Only nine of them will advance to the Top 10 later this spring, with the final spot going to a contestant from last season.
ABC announced Monday that 10 singers from Season 18 — including runner-up Arthur Gunn — will return to Idol and compete for a spot in the current season’s Top 10. As executive producer and showrunner Trish Kinane told Billboard, the show wanted to give Season 18’s contestants a chance to perform on the big Idol stage, after the coronavirus pandemic forced live shows to happen remotely from singers’ homes last year.

If you're like us, you can't wait for the first day of every month, because you know that Netflix is going to add a ton of new movies and TV shows. You refresh your account over and over again at midnight, hoping that those titles listed in the "Recently Added" section update with something new and exciting rather than the same ol' titles you've been staring at for the last four weeks.
Well, lo and behold, we've gathered the most exciting movies and TV shows being added to America's most popular streaming service, straight from Netflix themselves.
"Rocky" fans will be pumped to know that the first five boxing flicks (sorry, "Rocky Balboa" fans) will be added August 1, joining other '70s, '80s, and '90s movie favorites "Face/Off" (slow-motion doves!), "Mad Max" (apocalyptic leather!), "Spice World" (spice up your life!), "The Birdcage" (Calista Flockhart was in this,...

Christian rock bands? Yes, you read correctly. They do exist, and actually, they aren’t all that bad. But that isn’t really hard, considering the amount of manufactured music there is out there. Not all Christian rock music has the word “Jesus” in every other line. In fact, they sound like normal rock bands, with killer riffs and amazing solos.
Here I’ve collected 10 of my favourite bands that could change the way you think when you hear the words “Christian rock”. So whether you’re into classic rock, heavy metal, or even folk rock, check out some of these great bands. They might even surprise you.
10. Switchfoot
Switchfoot have been around since 1996, and have released 8 studio albums. “Hello Hurricane” received a Grammy award in 2011 for the Best Rock Gospel Album and their most recent one “Vice Verses” peaked at no. 8 in the Us Billboard 200. Switchfoot’s music has...

On Wednesday, "One Tree Hill" will say goodbye with a two-hour finale event. We'll see the return of old friends (Bevin! Gavin DeGraw!) and even take a peek into the future. Before we do that, though, we're looking back on some of our favorite moments from the past. Check out ten unforgettable first kisses below!
Lucas & Peyton's first kiss: Episode 107, "Life in a Glass House"
Luke and Peyton's relationship didn't kick off in the most romantic way ever. Though he'd been pining for her for years, their first kiss came during a game of Truth or Dare. A drunk, jealous Brooke childishly dared Peyton to kiss Lucas -- and she did, before storming off. Later that night they picked up where they left off, but just before they were about to hook up, Lucas professed his love for Peyton... buzz kill. [Video]

It’s not often we get to see a feature-length nature documentary on the big screen, but Disneynature’s Chimpanzee certainly looks as though it has the potential to be pretty successful next year.
We got the teaser trailer for the film back in April, and now Yahoo Movies have put up the film’s first full-length trailer, and it’s pretty dramatic and intense stuff! There’s something about nature documentaries, they seem to have a way of being able to have such a wide reach, and the true story of a three-year-old orphaned chimpanzee who is then raised by an adult chimp should make for a dramatic documentary.
The film is co-directed by Emmy-winning directors Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, who’ve worked with Disneynature before on 2007’s Earth, which took more than $100m. at the box office four years ago. Let’s hope they can reproduce some of that success with Chimpanzee.
