Lisa Rinna is best known for playing the characters of Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives and Taylor McBride on Melrose Place… or at least she was, until she was featured on eight seasons of the reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. That may be what most viewers recognize her from these days. But Rinna recently left that Real Housewives show, and now Deadline reports that she has signed on to appear in an episode of the Hulu horror anthology series American Horror Stories.
The episode Rinna will be in is titled Tapeworm, and most of the filming of that episode was already completed before Deadline confirmed her involvement. That’s the only information that’s available at this time.

Super producer Ryan Murphy, who has produced and written iconic projects such as Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens, is leaving Netflix for Disney to reconcile with his old friend, Dana Walden. Murphy worked with Walden when he was under contract with 20th Century Fox TV when she helmed the division.
Walden, a good friend of Murphy’s, is now the chairwoman of Disney Entertainment.
Murphy’s agreement with Netflix doesn’t finish until the end of June and when it does, he will be able to work again with his longtime partner, FX’s John Landgraf, who serves as the chairman of the organization, which is also part-owned by Disney.
ABC, another Disney network, paid for ownership of 9-1-1, a drama that Murphy developed for Fox in 2018.
The choice to exit Netflix for Disney comes five years after he joined the streamer in a blockbuster $300 million agreement.

As WGA pickets continue to mobilize at the remaining TV shows in both New York and Los Angeles, at least one Ryan Murphy-produced show was the focus of striking writers’ efforts on Wednesday: “American Horror Story: Delicate.” The show is currently shooting on 52nd street in Manhattan, according to several WGA East member Twitter feeds — including one person who posted video of star Kim Kardashian entering the production.
“It doesn’t appear that @KimKardashian is a friend of the labor movement. She just now crossed our picket line to work on Ryan Murphy’s @Ahsfx Hamptons, shooting here on 52nd in NYC,” wrote “The Blacklist” exec producer and WGA strike captain T Cooper on his Twitter account.

“Law & Order” fans, you have Rob Lowe to thank for the entire franchise. As does Dick Wolf’s bank account. At least, Lowe says this, with his tongue a bit in cheek (but also with some accuracy). As the star of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” and Netflix’s “Unstable” recently told Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Lowe starred in Wolf’s 1988 feature flop “Masquerade.” It was just the kind of movie disappointment that would have sent Wolf back to TV — and two years later, “Law & Order” premiered. “I remember him saying to me how frustrated he was in the movie business, that he was going to write a pilot,” Lowe said. “And he wrote ‘Law and Order.’ And the rest is history. You’re welcome. Yeah, I’m happy to provide the bomb that powers your rise to dominance.”

The final episode of Hulu’s Class Of ’09 was released today, and it saw the downfall of the system that had become an autocratic machine targeting anyone based on their actions without the benefit of human judgment. The dream of Tayo Michaels for an equal society had been grossly misinterpreted by this system that was making decisions and assigning punishments on its own. However, the finale, as well as the overall treatment of the characters and the main storyline, seem rather haphazard and replete with plot holes. Here’s a detailed look into all the problems that the series had and a theory as to why such mistakes came to pass in Hulu’s ambitious project, Class Of ’09.

Ryan Murphy shot back Wednesday at accusations from WGA East strike captain Warren Leight that “American Horror Story” crew members were told if they respect writers’ strike lines while filming in New York City, “they’ll be black-balled in Murphy-land.”
“Absolute nonsense. Completely untrue,” a spokesperson for Murphy told TheWrap. WGA East and “AHS” network FX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to Leight, who tweeted the accusation early Wednesday, crew members for “AHS” allegedly told striking members of the WGA that if they respect the picket on the New York production, “they’ll be blackballed in Murphy-land.” Leight, the former showrunner for “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” and “In Treatment” and the current WGA East strike captain, wrote that the Emmy-winning horror series’ twelfth season was filming in Midtown, Manhattan on 52nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The WGA scheduled a picket of this location from 5 a.

Ryan Murphy is making headlines with another blockbuster deal. After leaving 20th Century Fox in 2018 for Netflix in a massive $300 million deal, Murphy is now ditching Netflix for the conglomerate that acquired 20th Century Fox. Murphy will reportedly leave Netflix when his five-year contract expires at the end of June for the greener pastures of Disney, potentially reuniting with his friend and former 20th Century Fox TV head Dana Walden, who is now co-chairman of Disney Entertainment.

A version of this story about Niecy Nash-Betts and “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first ran in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
In Netflix’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” Niecy Nash-Betts plays Glenda Cleveland, the neighbor of Jeffrey Dahmer who tried to warn the police about his killing, only to be repeatedly ignored. Her haunting performance has earned Nash-Betts her best reviews since her Emmy-nominated turn in 2019’s “When They See Us” — along with a SAG nomination and a Critic’s Choice Award win for best supporting actress in a limited series.
What interested you in the role of Glenda Cleveland?
When Ryan called me, I said yes before I even knew what it was. (Laughs) But when I started to unpack the story, the thing that got me on the hook was that she went so long being unheard.

Christopher Nolan has a warning for anyone purchasing “Oppenheimer” tickets: The film might emotionally destroy you. Speaking to Wired magazine in a new interview, Nolan said that some early “Oppenheimer” viewers have had a visceral reaction to the film, which follows theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) as he creates the atomic bomb to end World War II.
“Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated,” Nolan said about early screenings. “They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings. But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.”
Nolan later added, “It is an intense experience, because it’s an intense story. I showed it to a filmmaker recently who said it’s kind of a horror movie. I don’t disagree.”

After a $300 million dollar deal, Ryan Murphy is heading back to where he started — sort of. The “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator is reportedly planning to leave Netflix for a new deal with the Disney Corporation, bringing him back into the fold with many of his collaborators from his time at 20th Century Fox TV.
According to a report from Bloomberg on Tuesday, Murphy has not finalized his deal with Disney yet, but has spent the past year negotiating with the House of Mouse and reportedly managed to iron out the details before the Writer’s Strike began in May. Murphy’s Netflix deal, which was first signed in 2018, will expire this July.
If the deal goes through, it will reunite Murphy with Dana Walden, who served as the CEO and head of Fox Television when Murphy worked there from 2003, with the premiere of his show “Nip/Tuck,” to 2018. Under Walden’s leadership,...

Super-producer Ryan Murphy is set to make Disney his new home as his five-year, $300 million Netflix deal comes to a close.
According to reports, Murphy has been negotiating his new deal for the past year, and most of the details were finished before the WGA strike started in May.
Once dubbed “TV’s First $300 Million Man,” Murphy is responsible for creating hits such as “Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Watcher” for the streaming service.
Murphy signed the five-year exclusive development deal with Netflix in 2018. To date this partnership has produced two miniseries (“Hollywood” and “Hanson”), three ongoing dramas, three movies, three documentaries and one docuseries (“The Andy Warhol Diaries”). “Ratched” and “The Watcher” have been renewed through Season 2,while the “Monster” anthology series has been renewed through three installments. (Note: Seasons 1 and 2 of “The Politician” were ordered by Netflix prior to the deal.)

Ryan Murphy looks to be heading back to Disney.
Murphy is set to leave Netflix at the end of his five-year overall deal, which was understood to be worth around $300M. Deadline has confirmed that he’s in talks with Disney, although no deal is yet signed.
The move will reunite him with Dana Walden, who is now Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment.
The move is not a huge surprise as many around town have been openly discussing him returning to work with Walden – he was previously under an overall deal at 20th when Walden was there – before moving to the streamer in 2018.
After a slow start at Netflix, with shows such as Hollywood, Murphy has been responsible for some of its biggest recent hits including Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher. Prior to Hollywood, he had made series such as Ratched and The Politician for the streamer, which...

Ryan Murphy will depart Netflix at the end of his five-year, nine-figure overall deal, and is set to make a new home at Disney.
The producer behind hits including Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, 911 and American Horror Story is expecting to reunite with Dana Walden, who worked closely with Murphy when she headed what was then 20th Century Fox TV and he had a deal there. Walden, who is also one Murphy’s closest friends and confidants, is now co-chairman of Disney Entertainment. The new, not yet completed pact — Murphy’s Netflix deal doesn’t expire until the end of the month, after all — will bring Murphy back in-house with FX’s John Landgraf, with whom he has long had a close creative relationship, as well. Sources say the move has been in the works since well before the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May.
Disney declined to comment.

Rodney Burford had a dream of becoming a professional football player when he auditioned for Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Aside from his stint on the reality TV series Deaf U in 2020 and some accidental stage work in high school, Burford, who is Profoundly Deaf and has cochlear implants to help him understand the spoken word, had no acting experience.
In the show, Burford plays Tony Hughes, a 31-year-old Black deaf man who was murdered by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (portrayed by Evan Peters) in 1991. The episodes delving into Tony’s story have been deemed some of the show’s best, and Burford’s performance has been hailed as a standout.
“It took me a while to realize that this is a real person that I’m portraying,” Burford tells THR, with the assistance of Asl interpreter Gabriel Gomez. “I [wanted] to show so much homage to the person himself.

The sudden departure of Disney chief financial officer Christine McCarthy from her role citing family medical leave poses complications for both filling that role permanently and succession plans to install a new CEO to replace Bob Iger, according to Wall Street analysts and industry experts.
McCarthy’s exit creates a domino effect that not only prolongs the search for her replacement until Iger is able to choose a successor but may push the chief executive to extend his contract beyond its initial two years in order to ensure the company is stable.
“It slows everything in the near-term because they have to do a search for the new CFO which has to include external parties,” Laura Martin, senior entertainment and internet analyst at Needham & Company told TheWrap. “So a lot of times to replace a CFO of this caliber, it takes a year.”

A good franchise is hard to kill. Bad ones, like the seven-film torture device Police Academy, can be even harder to exterminate. But sometimes doomed series are finally put out of their misery. Up on the shelf they go, doomed to a future of languishing on lists like this one.
The murder weapon is usually money. More specifically, the lack thereof. A big enough failure means a franchise won’t get another chance to pull their act together, and the most spectacular bombs get to live on as warnings to future film students. Even more interesting are the ones that aren’t total flops, the movies that maybe made a profit, but one so small or negligible that their studios decided to put that old franchise to bed, anyway. Here are 15 movies that killed their respective franchises for good.

Historian Kai Bird, co-author of the 2005 book that inspired Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” has shared his thoughts about the upcoming film, revealing that he has high hopes for how it can resonate with the public during a conversation with David Nirenberg at Wolfensohn Hall, Institute for Advanced Study.
“I am, at the moment, stunned and emotionally recovering from having seen it,” Bird said. “I think it is going to be a stunning artistic achievement, and I have hopes it will actually stimulate a national, even global conversation about the issues that Oppenheimer was desperate to speak out about — about how to live in the atomic age, how to live with the bomb and about McCarthyism — what it means to be a patriot, and what is the role for a scientist in a society drenched with technology and science, to speak out about public issues.”

Kicking off a marketing campaign like that, a full year before Godzilla rose up from the depths was pretty much unprecedented back in 1997. It signalled the arrival of the age of internet marketing. You could even download the trailer to watch at home if you didn’t mind waiting eleven hours for the privilege.
After months of hype, Godzilla finally arrived on Memorial Day. It was Roland Emmerich’s first movie since reinventing the...

If you’ve seen the trailers for the Barbie movie, you might have noticed that Mattel has signed off on being portrayed as antagonists, with Will Ferrell playing the company's raging CEO. In the recent fourth and final season of Barry, Warner Bros. appear, determined to make a movie about the hitman-slash-actor’s life story. And it seems there’s a mini-trend afoot of companies allowing themselves to be sent up in their own projects, since Charlie Brooker has also managed to get Netflix_, ‘Joan Is Awful’.
The episode revolves around the ordinary character of Joan (Annie Murphy), who becomes aware that her life is the subject of a streaming series in which she’s played by Salma Hayek, when she stumbles across it on Netflix-esque streaming platform, 'Streamberry'. You’d think Brooker would have faced some pushback from the streamer about it – but apparently, that wasn’t the case.

A version of this story about the hairstyling of “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first appeared in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
One of the great ironies of Jeffrey Dahmer’s existence is that while his apartment stank of, in his words, “rotting meat” (we all know what it really was), his physical appearance was initially anything but shabby. He even had a tidy blond hairdo, which Evan Peters wears as the cannibal serial killer in producer Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for Netflix.
“If you look at a lot of pictures, there were times where Dahmer had darker hair and times that he had these blond highlights and you’re trying to figure out where did these highlights come from?” hair department head Shay Sanford-Fong said. “But a lot of it is in Ryan’s research: When he was in jail,...

Dahmer – Monster may have been a dark series about a serial killer, but Michael Learned thinks she got the role as the cannibal’s grandmother by showing off her wry sense of humor.
While shooting a self-tape for the role of Catherine Dahmer, Learned’s manager suggested that she include a full body shot as part of the audition.
“I said, ‘oh God, if I’d known you were gonna do that, I would’ve worn a bra,” Learned recalls to Deadline. “I hiked up my boobs. I thought my manager was going to cut it out. But he left it in and I think I probably got the part because it just made them laugh.”
An ability to put viewers in stitches wasn’t exactly a requirement of the job. Instead, Learned was hired to portray Dahmer’s rather tolerant grandma who takes the young man into her home...

The sixth episode of Class of ’09 shows that the sentient AI that Tayo Michaels had introduced to the FBI is too far gone by now. In the previous episode, the AI attacked a Father in a church because he protested against drones invading his church, and in this episode, the AI goes even further to eliminate someone it considers a threat. Whether the said person is a threat, you’ll be the judge, but for now, we need to contemplate if AI is really the need of the moment. Here’s look at the recap of Class of ’09 Episode 6.

In order to get into the head of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan did something he’s never done before — he wrote the script in the first person.
“I actually wrote in the first-person, which I’ve never done before,” Christopher Nolan told Empire. “I don’t know if anyone’s ever done it before. But the point of it is, with the colour sequences, which is the bulk of the film, everything is told from Oppenheimer’s point of view — you’re literally kind of looking through his eyes.” Nolan added that even the stage directions were told from the point of view of Oppenheimer, which he admits was an “odd thing to do, but it was a reminder to me of how to shoot the film. It was a reminder to everybody involved in the project, ‘Okay, this is the point of view of every scene.’“
