Inside the cyberpunk anime masterpiece that rocked the world.
Almost thirty years later, the tremors of Akira can still be felt across the world. The quintessential anime film that not only is the pinnacle of its genre, but continues to inspire artists world wide even to this day. There have been numerous attempts to get a live-action film off the ground, the latest having Get Out director Jordan Peele attached. With any luck the poor returns on Ghost in the Shell will put this one on the shelf. There is little chance that Hollywood would be able to get Akira right, for all the reasons that make it so great. Akira is still a landmark and continues to shine as a titan of animation.
For those unfamiliar with Akira, it takes place thirty-one years after explosion led to the start of World War III. Tokyo is rebuilt as Neo Tokyo and in 2019, a young motor cycle gang...

Batman: Bad Blood is available for purchase on Digital HD beginning today. Physical copies can be purchased on February 2. At the end of the film, there's a wordless appearance by Batgirl, who makes her first appearance in the current DC Animation continuity. She's wearing a costume inspired by her recent redesign from Babs Tar and Cameron Stewart. is the cameo a hint that we could we be receiving a solo Batgirl animated feature in the next round of DC Animated features? The next slate is usually announced at San Diego Comic-Con so keep your fingers crossed until July. When Batman goes missing, it will take the entire Bat “family” – including new additions Batwoman and Batwing – to keep the peace in Gotham City and unravel the mystery behind the Dark Knight’s disappearance in "Batman: Bad Blood." Warning: Significant spoilers follow
The Sontarans have had somewhat of a mixed history in Doctor Who. They first appeared in a Third Doctor story, which also featured the debut of Sarah Jane Smith. They were then kind of in and out throughout the old series, and eventually reached a low-point in “The Two Doctors”, where they were entirely superfluous to the plot. They’ve been somewhat better executed and better used in the new series, though I could really do without the “Sontar Ha!” business.
Surprisingly, they’ve never had an “origin” story, like “Genesis of the Daleks”. We know that they are clones made by the millions to fight a species called the Rutans, who’ve only appeared in one Who story back in the day. This story aims to correct that.
The story concerns the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and Peri (Nicola Bryant) arriving on Earth in the 1870s.

Previous generations had to linger around artists alley tables to listen in on what their favorite creators were saying behind the scenes.
Today, we have Twitter, where they present everything from opinions between Cameron Stewart and Andy Diggle on trending motion comics to Punisher Photoshoppery gone bizarre thanks to Rick Remender and Chuck Bb. (That's "FrankenQuesada" pictured here.)
Elsewhere, away from the hubbub, Chris Eliopoulos pondered where his trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom would fit in on his taxes next year, and Ben Templesmith tossed in his thoughts on Ted Kennedy. You can find it all below in the Twitter Report for August 27, 2009.
