Forty-one years ago, they published the biggest Beatles biography of all time — The Love You Make, which spent three months in 1983 atop the New York Times best-seller list. The book would make its co-authors — former Circus magazine editor and author of 13 best-sellers Steven Gaines and onetime Brian Epstein protégé and Fab Four confidant Peter Brown — into the most famous Beatle-ologists on the planet.

Review: The first season of Them debuted on Prime Video close to the one-year mark after Covid-19. Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat won’t tell you much about what Flannery O’Connor accomplished. The audience won’t learn about O’Connor’s place in the literary world, the larger culture, or alongside other consciously Catholic fiction writers like Graham Greene. There’s a worthy determination to the way that Wildcat sees O’Connor’s world almost entirely from her mystical, pain-rattled perspective. But by limiting the film’s viewpoint so strictly, Hawke and co-screenwriter Shelby Gaines miss an opportunity to introduce O’Connor to a wider audience.
Hawke’s gnomic biopic opens with a 24-year-old O’Connor (Maya Hawke) trying to make it in New York, circa 1950. Having won a literary prize while attending the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop, she’s trying to get her first novel, Wise Blood, published. But O’Connor, incapable of small talk or artistic compromise, isn’t a striving literary ingenue working the angles and currying favor.

A twin brother and sister get separated in childhood. The sister, however, is raised by a decent family and goes on to become a police officer. The brother, sadly, gets the short end of the stick and eventually turns into a psychopathic serial killer. The second season of Prime Video’s Them, titled The Scare, can be summed up with just this much, but there is an obvious horror element playing at large. The “scare” in the title points to this supernatural entity, which consumes the brother and tries to do the same with the sister. In this article, we’re going to put the ending of the show under the microscope and also look into the themes of this season. There will be major spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t watched it yet, please stop reading this article at this point.

Over the course of his life, Paul McCartney has been the subject of countless books about his life and time with The Beatles. Few upset him more than a book by longtime Beatles confidante Peter Brown. With writer Steven Gaines, Brown published The Love You Make, a book that spanned from the band’s teenage years to shortly after John Lennon’s death. McCartney took his copy of the book and burned it.
Paul McCartney felt betrayed by a book about The Beatles
In 1983, Brown and Gaines published The Love You Make, which pulled from Brown’s experiences as well as interviews with Beatles associates and the band themselves. Though many were happy to help with the book, the final product rankled. It detailed Lennon’s alleged sexual relationship with Beatles manager Brian Epstein and claimed McCartney had an illegitimate son, among other things. Brown sent out copies of the...

Stephen King's 1977 short story "Children of the Corn" has been adapted to film an embarrassing number of times. The first adaptation was a 1983 short called "Disciples of the Crow," and it was off to the races. The first feature in the franchise, directed by Fritz Kiersch, hit in 1984 and starred Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton as an innocent city couple who make the mistake of driving through Gatlin, Nebraska, a town that's been taken over by its under-16 population. The kids, following the directions of an off-screen demonic entity they call He Who Walks Behind the Rows, have murdered all the adults and set up their own blood cult. The protagonists run afoul of the kiddie cult and barely escape with their lives intact.
"Children of the Corn" was followed by eight sequels, released from 1993 through 2018. Few of them are good, although the monster design for "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest...

Founded by Maxwell Gaines in 1944, the Entertaining Comics brand (a.k.a. EC Comics) initially specialized in educational comics and stories aimed at children. But after Gaines died in a boating accident in ’47, his 25-year-old son William took control of the company and changed its direction, exploring the genres of horror, sci-fi, and satire while bringing us classic titles like Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror, The Haunt of Fear, Weird Science, Weird Fantasy, and Mad. Sadly, EC Comics was at its peak when parents started to worry about the negative effects reading comic books could have on their children, leading to things like a Congressional hearing that blamed comic books for juvenile delinquency – a claim that was backed up by the book Seduction of the Innocent, written by psychiatrist Fredric Wertham. So by 1956, EC Comics ceased publishing all of their titles except for Mad. Those classic EC...

In the early 1950s, EC Comics was the bad boy of comic publishers. Its comics such as Tales From the Crypt, Weird Science and Two-Fisted Tales sold millions in mid-century America. Unfortunately, its stories — at times shocking, horrifying, and even progressive — also drew scrutiny and backlash, and the company found itself in the cross hairs of censorship and regulation at the height of the McCarthy era. The company ultimately shuttered, with the last comic hitting newsstands and drug stores in 1956.
Now, seventy years after the creation of the self-regulatory body Comics Code Authority, the infamous comics company is blasting out of the crypt and returning with a brand new line of comics.
Oni Press, the publisher perhaps best known for the breakout indie hit Scott Pilgrim, has partnered with William M. Gaines Agent, Inc., the rights holders of the EC line, to launch all-new stories with A-list comics creators beginning this summer.

Fall festival premiere “Wildcat,” a reimagining of famed author Flannery O’Connor process writing her first novel, is even more of a family affair than originally advertised.
While the film, currently seeking distribution after premiering at both Telluride and TIFF, was executive produced by star Maya Hawke, co-written and directed by her father Ethan Hawke, and produced by his wife Ryan Hawke, actress Laura Linney, who plays O’Connor’s mother (among other roles) was the final piece of the puzzle that allowed them to produce the imaginative project.
“There are few people in the world who, if they ask you to do something, they whisper and you show up. And Ethan is just one of those people, for me,” said Linney during a recent interview with IndieWire. (The cast of “Wildcat” received a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement to promote the film amid the ongoing strike.) She recalled when they worked together early in her career,...

Series regular Alexa Davalos will not be returning for Season 5 of CBS’ “FBI: Most Wanted,” Variety has confirmed.
Hailing from Dick Wolf, “FBI: Most Wanted” focuses on the Fugitive Task Force, an elite unit that relentlessly pursues and captures the notorious criminals on the Bureau’s Most Wanted list. David Hudgins and Todd Arnow executive produce.
Davalos joined the series at the beginning of Season 3, playing the role of Kristin Gaines, a member of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force and a former Naval Intelligence Officer. Her character’s exit joins the short list of cast shakeups that have taken place on the Wolf Entertainment show. Davalos’ character originally joined the team after Kellan Lutz, another series regular, exited the series. Lutz played Kenny Crosby, who was written off the show in the Season 3 premiere. Exclusive: With two Hollywood strikes, it’s unclear when CBS’ FBI: Most Wanted will return for a fifth season, but when it does, it will be without one of its series regulars, Alexa Davalos.
The news likely will come as a surprise to fans became there was no hint in the Season 4 finale that Davalos’ character, Special Agent Kristin Gaines, might be departing the series from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
The exit may have come as a surprise to many on the show, too, including possibly Davalos. I hear she was informed by a producer on set that she won’t be coming back after filming her last scene from Season 4 several months ago. According to multiple sources, the conversation — and Davalos’ departure — were amicable.

HGTV’s Fixer Upper introduced fans to Chip and Joanna Gaines. The couple made a name for themselves thanks to their incredible ability to fix homes in Waco, Texas. Since the beginning of the series, they’ve built an empire worth millions — and they’re certainly no strangers to hard work. While speaking to podcasters, Chip spoke about taking a step back and working less. Here’s what he said.

“Mini Reni is a way to show how you can transform a space in less than a week.” So says Joanna Gaines in TV Insider’s exclusive first look at the trailer for her new special. Mini Reni, a half-hour special, premiering on Sunday, June 25 at 9/8c on Magnolia Network (and available to stream that day on Max and discovery+), sees Gaines, known for her jaw-dropping, large scale home renovations scale it down in scope and budget as she and her design team challenge themselves to renovate three rooms in an outdated home in need of a refresh — in one week and for under $15,000. “Any time I look at design, I think about jeans. The wallpaper stopping at that point kind of accentuated the muffin top,” Gaines says in the trailer. With the smaller scale, “it gets a little more storytelling, a little more dramatic, and a little extra simple detail,...

When George Harrison started playing music with John Lennon, he was 15 years old. Cynthia Lennon (Powell at the time), John’s then-girlfriend, was about 20. She thought of him as an annoying kid brother. When she got her appendix removed, he was the last person she wanted to see in her hospital room.
Out of all of John’s friends, Cynthia like George the least
According to the Beatles biography The Love You Make by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines, George was “the friend of John’s that Cynthia liked the least.” He had a way of annoying her. A big part of that was the amount of attention he gave to John.
“Slight and pale, he had his fair share of adolescent pimples,” reads Tlym. “More private than actually shy, it was obvious that George idolized John and did everything he could to emulate him.”

Cynthia had suspicions about Yoko, but she wasn’t sure about them until she walked into her and John’s kitchen after returning home from a vacation to find her sitting with her husband on the floor amidst piles of dirty dishes. It was May 1968.
Cynthia had been on a two-week vacation in Greece with one of John’s friends nicknamed “Magic Alex” thanks to his electronics wizardry and Jenny Boyd, whose sister Pattie was then married to George Harrison.

Fixer Upper fans have probably heard the co-star of the HGTV series, Joanna Gaines, talk about shiplap more than once. However, Joanna Gaines’ best piece of advice has nothing to do with shiplap.
