Remember how the first Aquaman came out and was a colossal success? It really seemed like everything was finally on track for the character after years of jokes and abuse. Then tragedy…or well…insanity struck. The sequel was plagued with reshoots, scheduling conflicts, and an ever-changing landscape of the Dceu. Plus there’s the Amber Heard of it all, which has grown increasingly complicated. Today on DC Revisited, we’re getting into it all, as we dive into James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Before the first Aquaman had found massive success, Warner Bros was already hard at work on developing a sequel. Jason Momoa himself pitched a story to the studio, wanting to be more involved in the sequel’s development. This makes sense as Momoa really was the face of Aquaman and had shifted the perception of the character from a blonde man in tights...

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” Comes to Max
Following its December theatrical premiere, the recent DC blockbuster “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will make its streaming debut on Max this month!
James Wan returns to the helm in the Jason Momoa-starrer, which sees Aquaman turn to his imprisoned brother and former King of Atlantis Orm (Patrick Wilson) and set aside their differences to save their family and the world as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) now wields the power of the Black Trident, vowing to stop at nothing to avenge to his father’s death.
In addition to Momoa, Wilson, and Abdul-Mateen II, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Randall Park, and John Rhys-Davies also reprise their roles in the sequel with Temuera Morrison, Martin Short, Vincent Regan, Jani Zhao, Indya Moore, and others.
The film has earned $433 million at the global box office, a relatively modest sum compared to 2018’s “Aquaman,...

DC Studios‘ last gasp before James Gunn reboots the Dcu is coming to the Max streaming service later this month. Swimming onto the platform on February 27, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuted in theaters last year during the Christmas holiday stretch. Unfortunately, the James Wan-directed Aquaman 2 floated on the surface of the box office like a dead fish, with $123 million domestically and $433 million worldwide. In contrast, Aquaman netted $335M in the United States and $1.1B worldwide. The difference in dollars earned between both films is staggering, with multiple culprits to blame for the film’s failure, including wild on-set rumors, Amber Heard’s legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, and DC jumping the gun on its plans to reboot the Dceu.

DC’s Aquaman 2 is finally in theaters after wading in choppy waters ahead of its release, breaching $4.5M in Thursday preview screenings at the box office. The James Wan-directed sequel debuted at 3,400 locations, with the superhero special-effects fest floating as the most significant tentpole of the holiday season. Interestingly, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is drowning with a review score of 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score fares much better with 76%. We’ve seen divides like this before, adding confusion to the film’s reception.
During its Thursday previews, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is performing worse than The Marvels, which banked $6.6M at the early box office. At least Aquaman 2 is performing better than DC’s previous sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods ($3.4M Thursday night, $11.7M Friday, and 3-day of $30.1M). Meanwhile, the studio’s other film, The Flash, could have performed better with $9.7M in previews,...

We already thought that Warner Bros. and DC Studios had forgotten they have one more Dceu movie to release before the franchise is closed for good. To tell you the truth, we wouldn’t even be surprised if they’d axed the entire ‘Aquaman’ sequel, given all the previous commercial failures and everything going around DC Studios at the moment.
Regardless, the original ‘Aquaman’ movie, directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa in the title role, is still the highest-grossing DC movie of all time. And now, almost five years after its release, we finally watched the first official trailer for the sequel, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which promises another epic adventure in which Arthur Curry will need to seek the help of his former enemy and half-brother Orm to defeat Black Manta, who is seeking revenge against ‘Aquaman.’

Director James Wan and Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa—along with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman—return in the sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time: “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family,...
