Dave Holmes, the ex-manager of the British rock band Coldplay, has sued the band for £10 million ($12.3 million) he believes he is contractually owed for two unreleased Coldplay albums.
Holmes left as Coldplay’s band manager in August 2022 after working with them for 22 years.
The band is currently being managed by Phil Harvey, Mandi Frost and Arlene Moon, who have worked with Holmes and the band previously.
Holmes filed a claim to the High Court of Justice, alleging that the band had backed out on a promised contract for their tenth and eleventh albums. It was agreed in the contract that the manager would be paid a commission.
Additionally, Holmes declared that the band had attempted to demote him from manager to head of touring.
In response, the band members, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, filed a counterclaim in the High Court, which declared that Holmes had...

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones surprised his countrymen Tuesday night by making a surprise guest appearance during Coldplay’s headlining set at Cardiff, Wales’ Principality Stadium. The singer and guitarist joined the band for a rendition of Stereophonics’ 2005 hit, “Dakota,” which was a Number One hit in the U.K. and a Top 40 single on the U.S.’s alternative chart.
Jones and Coldplay formed a circle with drummer Will Champion playing in a box. They were arranged a bit like Elvis Presley and his bandmates in the stripped-down section of the ’68 Comeback Special.

Ed Sheeran made his Game of Thrones debut in the season seven premiere. The people of the internet had a lot of thoughts. The singer, who isn't the first musician to make a cameo on the series, appeared in a scene with Maisie Williams' Arya Stark, right after she did one of her most badass things (read all about that here). His appearance, which included singing, was done for Williams, a fan of Sheeran. "For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it," co-creator David Benioff said at a SXSW panel in March. Other musician cameos have included Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon, but...

[[tmz:video id="0_jnvzw5t8"]] Ed Sheeran didn't stray far from his lane for his "Game of Thrones" debut, but not everyone is convinced he deserves two thumbs up for the performance. Ed Sheeran appeared on the Game of Thrones Season Seven premiere. The songwriter appeared around a campfire with a crew of Lannisters, eating rabbit and crooning the unofficially-titled "Hands of Gold." The song first appeared in A Storm of Swords, George R.R. "For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm," the grinning Sheeran sang, as Arya Stark happened upon the dining Lannister clan. "It's a new one," the musician explained in close-up.

Welcome to Westeros, Ed Sheeran!
After months of speculation, the 26-year-old singer made his highly anticipated Game of Thrones debut in Sunday night's season seven premiere, and we're pleased to say that his mysterious character was worth the wait.
The "Castle on the Hill" singer appeared 39 minutes into the episode when his unnamed character's angelic voice caught the attention of young Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) as she was riding through the forest.
"For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm," Sheeran's character croons while sitting fireside with a group of soldiers who have stopped to have a bite to eat before heading to The Riverlands.
"It's a pretty song, I've never heard it before," Arya says.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that HBO plans to quietly wind down Game of Thrones just because of the reduced episode count; if anything, the final, truncated two seasons will give showrunners the ability to “break boundaries” through the use of cutting-edge CGI and new camera techniques.
That’s according to Kit Harington, whose Jon Snow quite literally received a new lease of life in Game of Thrones season 6. Now appointed King of the North, Harington has spoke at length about the monumental encounters that await in this year’s seventh season, and during a recent interview with the Huffington Post (via Comic Book), the actor touched base on the scale and scope of Game of Thrones season 7, and why it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet – even if it’s technically the shortest.

Think 2016 was a dumpster fire of awfulness? Imagine how terrible it could have been if we didn't have Beyoncé. All things considered, it wasn't too shabby a year for Miss Carter, as she is closing it out with nine Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year for Lemonade. As for the rest of her best moments, it's nearly impossible to wean down every single thing she did, but here are 17 of her biggest, best, most Beyoncé moments of the past 365 days, give or take.

Since its inception, Game of Thrones has had deep ties to real-life musicians. Kristian "Hodor" Nairn has a lengthy career as a guitarist and DJ. The Hold Steady's version of the popular-in-Westeros song "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" appears in the Season Four episode "Walk of Punishment." And Alfie Allen, who plays everyone's favorite humbled eunuch Theon Greyjoy, is the brother of pop star Lily Allen.
But the show has gone beyond that, casting actual recording artists as regular cast members or occasional superfan guests for the benefit of eagle-eyed music fans.

In the week since David Bowie's death, many artists and entertainers have come forward to share their memories of the late rock icon. But none have been as darkly humorous as the story from Coldplay's Jonny Buckland and Will Champion, who told NME that Bowie once turned down a chance to collaborate with the band, with a brutally honest assessment. The story goes like this: Coldplay once wrote a song with a "Bowie-type character," and Chris Martin sent the former Thin White Duke a letter asking him if he wanted to lend his voice to the track. Bowie's cutting response: "It's not a very good song, is it?" As Champion marveled, "He was very discerning — he wouldn't just put his name to anything. I'll give him credit for that." And you thought that Extras scene was fiction.

Like all classic dramas, Game of Thrones comes with a booming soundtrack fit for a king. The opening sequence is as epic as the events which take place after it, and it’s mostly down to the rousing strings and hammering drums bellowing from behind the graphics.
Music is a big part of the Seven Kingdoms, with much of the world’s history remembered through song, with ominous snippets of The Rains Of Castamere being forever remembered for building up to the mega Red Wedding. Since then, that song has foreshadowed many deaths, violent encounters, and all-out slaughters.
One of the musicians during that infamous scene was Coldplay drummer Will Champion, and another famous cameo was Sigur Ros playing at Joffrey’s wedding, much to the dismay of the vicious young king, but the writers don’t even need to draft in musical talent, because they already have it within their ranks.

In the teaser, Dinklage rocks the mic as he reminds us of the characters that have died while Tyrion keeps right on playing the “Game of Thrones.” “Remember Ned Stark? He was a lot of fun/But he didn’t make it past season one,” Dinklage sings. See photos: 13 of Hollywood's...

Tyrion Lannister is the man. Game of Thrones fans already know this, of course, but Peter Dinklage further cemented his character's awesomeness with a little help from Coldplay—yes, that Coldplay! Chris Martin and co., wrote a Game of Thrones musical sketch, which Dinklage teased brilliantly in this promotional video for Red Nose Day, a "campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making people laugh." In the genius teaser clip, Dinklage rocks out as Tyrion, crooning on about the multiple characters who've been killed off of the HBO series so far: "Remember Ned Stark / He was a lot of fun / But he didn't make it past...

The hottest night in the British music industry has come to a close! It was an incredible night at the 2015 Brit Awards with performances and memorable moments from Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Madonna, and many more.
The show aired live from the UK at London’s O2 arena and was hosted by TV personalities Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Big winners of the night included Sam Smith, who took home awards for both British Breakthrough Act and Global Success. Ed Sheeran also won big at the ceremony, walking away with the Mastercard British Album and British Male Solo awards.
While the Brit Awards are the biggest night in music in the UK, there were a number of Us stars who provided the show’s standout moments. Madonna, who made her first Brits appearance since 1995, took a nasty tumble during her performance of “Living for Love” – Don’t worry, she’s okay!

U2 frontman Bono suffered fractures to his left eye socket, shoulder blade and left elbow after a bicycle accident in Central Park in November, but the singer revealed Thursday that the biggest blow may be to his musical career.
In a 2014 recap post on the band’s website, the singer admits that recovering from his accident has been more difficult than he imagined and that he will have to "concentrate hard" to be ready for the band’s upcoming tour, scheduled to kick off in May.
"As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again," wrote Bono. "The band have reminded me that neither they nor Western civilization are depending on this."

As one of the fastest rising stars in Edm at the moment, it was really just a matter of time before we got a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix from Mr. Oliver Heldens. Keeping in suit with his deep house/groovy style, the two hours of music delivers exactly what you’d expect.
From the producer’s own hits like “Gecko” and “Koala,” to some of the biggest songs of 2014 (“Light Years Away,” “A Sky Full Of Stars,” “Blame,” etc.) the mix is a pleasure to listen to from start to finish. In fact, it could very well make a case for Best Essential Mix of 2014, as it definitely rivals some of the more impressive ones that we’ve heard from BBC Radio 1 this year. If nothing else, though, it’s a great way for the young DJ to cap off his truly incredible breakout year.

Don’t panic – it’s not a feature-length Coldplay video. On the contrary, X + Y appears to be something altogether lovely and uplifting. Having made his 2007 BAFTA nominated TV documentary, Beautiful Young Minds, director Morgan Matthews brings us playwright James Graham’s fictionalised version of that story – which centres around the International Mathematics Olympiad.
Starring Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game) as Nathan – a young student whose specific ‘traits’ place him on the autistic spectrum – the film charts his time with his dedicated teacher, played by Rafe Spall (Life Of Pi), and his mother, played by Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine). Between them, they nurture his affinity for numbers and set him on the road to joining the British Math Team in Taipei for the International Math Olympiad. It is here, amidst these new circumstances that Nathan’s rigid life begins to open up to the realm of infinite possibility.

Avicii has some pretty big plans for his follow-up to True, as for the DJ’s sophomore outing, he’s set to collaborate with several exciting talents. Rolling Stone reports that Billie Joe Armstrong, Chris Martin, Serj Tankian, Wyclef Jean, Matisyahu and Jon Bon Jovi will all be lending their talents to Avicii’s next album.
“It’s going to be a lot more song-oriented,” the DJ/producer explained. “True was an attempt at that, getting electronic music in a song format.”
While the Martin collaboration makes sense, given that Avicii helped out on Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars, some of these other names are definitely surprising. I’m pretty curious as to what a collaboration with someone like Bon Jovi or Billie Joe Armstrong will sound like, though. After all, if there’s anyone who can successfully mix Edm and rock and roll together into one cohesive and fluent track,...

After Avicii came in to help with production of the latest Coldplay single, A Sky Full Of Stars, remixes began to spill out onto the Internet. From Moeiz to Syn Cole, many have taken a jab at this beautiful piece of music. But now the current leader of the DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, Hardwell, has delivered his take on the song with this absolute gem of progressive house.
If you recall, Edc Las Vegas was graced with this remix playing through Kinetic Field amongst fans singing along to Chris Martin’s vocals. Featuring an uplifting melody that turns this tranquil song into a main-stage monster, the remix maintains the emotion of the original while implementing the power of Hardwell’s kicks and basslines.
It truly amazes me how Robbert Van De Corput can put out this tremendous remix between worrying about the looming results of the new polls for DJ Mag,...

Preparing to drop a new studio album and hotter than ever, Fedde Le Grand touched down in Toronto this past weekend for the Digital Dreams Music Festival, where he played to an ecstatic crowd, showing off both old favorites as well as some of the new stuff that we’ll be seeing on his next album.

Australian Coldplay fans were in for a treat today (June 17) as Chris Martin and the boys headed to King Street Newtown to shoot their music video for “A Sky Full of Stars.”
Joined by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion, Mr. Martin paraded around in a funky getup and even showed off his toned arms in a grey tank top.
Manager Paul Harvey shared that he definitely didn’t think so many (250+) loyal followers would show up for the shoot, which he tweeted about on Monday night (June 16).
“When I sent out the tweet last night I thought maybe 20 or 30 people would turn up. We love Sydney, we love Australia. I used to live in Melbourne. When we knew that Sydney was on our little routes in our promo tour we said that's the spot where we want to do our shoot.”

With season 4 not even cold in its grave, we take a spoiler-free look ahead to what Game Of Thrones season 5 has in store…
Feature
Warning: contains major spoilers for the season four finale, The Children, but designed to be safe for non A Song Of Ice And Fire readers.
“Season five gives me nightmares”. It may not be the most inspiring quote from Game Of Thrones co-showrunner David Benioff, but as A Song Of Ice And Fire readers will tell you, his fears aren’t unjustified.
Book four of George R.R. Martin’s series - A Feast For Crows, the events of which would ordinarily be adapted for season five - is easily the saga’s least popular volume. Were season five to follow it slavishly, we wouldn’t see fan favourites Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow back next year as none features in the fourth book. Instead,...

Okay, well… that… sucked.
As a refresher: Two weeks ago, when we last left King’s Landing, we saw this:
This week we saw the death of a much beloved character (who had very little to do other than simply be awesome, let’s agree) and a lot of talking. Grumblegrumble. Let’s dig in?
A drunken bar wench is leading a round of “Name That Belch”, and most of the songs are names of previous episodes like “The Rains of Castamere” and “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”. Well, beats Coldplay. She tells a guy that he’s “got a hangnail for a cock,” which is such a wonderfully vile insult that I can forgive her pitchy burps. She then goes and talks to Gilly (Hannah Murray), so I take it back. Ugh.
Turns out wenchie is upset that Gilly’s baby (Samlet?) is keeping her up at night,...
