Harry Styles and Lizzo split the biggest spoils as Beyoncé made history — but went home empty-handed in the major categories yet again — at the 65th Grammy Awards Sunday night.

Dr. Jill Biden was in the house tonight at the 65th annual Grammy Awards, but the real first lady on the live CBS telecast clearly was Beyoncé.
Taking home two awards before the downtown L.A. show started on the small screen and Paramount+, and then Best R&b song with “Cuff It” and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance during the broadcast itself, Queen Bey is now literally the Queen of the Recording Academy with 32 career wins — more than any artist in Grammy history.

Los Angeles, Feb 6 (Ians) British American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, whose music spans multiple genres, gave an electrifying performance at the 65th annual Grammy Awards. She performed a fiery rendition of her song ‘Broken Horses’, which won Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song at the ceremony.
After a show-opening performance from Bad Bunny and monologue from host Trevor Noah, Brandi Carlile helped kick off the 65th annual Grammys with her performance. She was joined by her regular band and backing vocalists Lucius for the segment, which was introduced by her wife Catherine Shepherd and two daughters, who promised the artist would “rock everyone’s faces off.”

Brandi Carlile anchors this weekend’s 48th-season premiere of Austin City Limits, bringing a little bit of church into Austin’s Moody Theater with her.
Specifically, Carlile recalled attending vacation bible school as a kid and doing little projects around parables such as the wise man who built his house on a rock. It ended up inspiring the song “You and Me on the Rock,” which appears on Carlile’s album In These Silent Days, and on its deluxe edition In the Canyon Haze as a duet with her wife Catherine Shepherd.

Brandi Carlile is cruising down a steep road on her four-wheeler, her teal jacket flapping in the wind as she makes a sharp turn to her home in Maple Valley, Washington, a rural mountain town about 45 minutes outside of Seattle. It’s not an easy house to find — even the Gps gets confused around here. “Those things make up roads sometimes,” Carlile says. “Sometimes, it says this one doesn’t even exist.”

Sally (Catherine Shepherd) is not the star of her own show — or her own life. When we meet her, she’s trudging through a job in marketing (tasked with making eggs “sexy” enough to appeal to teens) and a relationship with a fellow whose meek submissiveness is portrayed as something almost grotesque. He doesn’t realize, or chooses not to, that Sally sneaks out of their shared bed one night to go to a club and returns drunk and coated in glitter. There, she connects with Emma, an ultracharismatic woman whose lack of self-awareness is its own gift: It allows her to shamelessly grift her way through life, convincing the gullible, including Sally, to give her whatever she wants.
HBO’s co-production with the U.K.’s Sky airs after Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s “Camping” remake and shares DNA with the original “Camping,” another comedy of (bad) manners created by Julia Davis.

Imagine if, a few episodes into the first season of the Steve Carell version of The Office, NBC opted to pair it on a lineup with Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s follow-up to the UK original Office. That would have seemed strange, right? Even for the millions of viewers who’d never heard of David Brent before, there would’ve been an unsettling degree of overlap in the two shows’ comic voices, Extras proving itself to be harsher than the American Office ultimately wanted to be. It would...

Television is hitting its annual homestretch. As the film world gears up for another contentious awards season, the TV realm continues ever onward, filling up the pre-holiday calendar with plenty of new offerings on streaming and cable.
Perhaps subconsciously matching the Academy-chasing stories on the feature side, plenty of this month’s brand new TV options are adaptations of acclaimed existing stories: November promises an on-screen look at a beloved novel of young friendship and not one but two TV series based on podcasts.

True stories are all the rage on TV this month, with nonfiction looks at Richard Nixon’s darkest hour, the booming business of art trading and the political side of the N.B.A. (as well as scripted takes on an Irl prison break and bad romance, respectively). On the fiction side, HBO’s got one import from Britain and another from Italy, each structured around a woman seizing control of her life; and AMC drops an intense John le Carré adaptation. Here’s what you’ll be tuning in to this November.

When folk rocker Brandi Carlile decided to record a cover of her groundbreaking 2007 album The Story, she set her sights on just one voice to sing the title track: her idol Dolly Parton.
But could the 71-year-old country icon still hit the high notes on this mountain range of a song?
Carlile, 35, wasn’t sure, so in her handwritten request, she suggested Parton could drop the song a key.
It was, Carlile tells People, “about the stupidest thing I think I’ve ever put down in writing.”

Having nurtured a string of short projects into development and before the cameras, actress-cum-director Catherine Shepherd is ready to graduate into the league of feature films, with her directorial debut coming in the form of Like a Virgin. Blending elements of drama, comedy and religion, the picture has barely made it off the drawing board, though according to Deadline, it’s already secured Gemma Arterton to star.
Centring on a promiscuous singleton called Mary (Arterton), Shepherd’s first foray behind the lens will follow our protagonist as she indulges in alcohol-fuelled trips into town. Getting drunk and hooking up with strangers, Mary embraces her hollow life with both hands, burning the candles at both ends. That all comes to a grinding halt though, when the angel Gabriel descends from heaven and informs that, much to her surprise, Arterton’s lead will carry and give birth to the next messiah.

After working on several short projects, actress Catherine Shepherd is headed into the feature director’s chair for the first time on a new film called Like A Virgin, and she’s recruited Gemma Arterton to star. Arterton will play Mary, a young woman who enjoys frequent nights out on the town, getting blind drunk and hooking up. But while still sozzled one raucous night, she gets a surprise visitor – no, not the local constabulary, but the Angel Gabriel who, in true Biblical style, informs her that she’s been chosen to birth the next Messiah. Which, somewhat understandably, comes as a bit of a shock. The big question is whether a girl who hasn’t seemed ready to grow up herself is prepared to carry and raise the next saviour of the world? Shepherd, who has also written the script, developed the film with the BFI.Arterton, last seen in The Voices,...

Yesterday on The Talk, Sara Gilbert told the story of her engagement to Linda Perry. In short, it was very romantic and public during a musical flash mob picnic in the park. It inspired us to reminisce on other celesbians who have received rings in the not-so-distant past.
Ellen DeGeneres popped the question to Portia de Rossi while staring at a goldfish. No joke! Portia had just done a shoot and brought a goldfish home with her, and she was watching the fish next to Ellen when Ellen asked, "This is a pretty romantic moment, right?" Portia replied, "Every moment with you is romantic." Then Ellen presented her love with a three carat marquise cut diamond engagement ring accented with small pink diamonds, designed by Neil Lane.
Christine Marinoni asked Cynthia Nixon to be her wife in 2009 with a diamond engagement ring.

Before it was a show, the L word was love. And lesbians. Lesbians and love. So for this very special holiday that happens every year, we wanted to get in the spirit with some of both. Lesbians in love.
Jenny Shimizu and Michelle Violy Harper
Model/actress Jenny Shimizu is as famous for having dated Angelina Jolie as she is for her androgynous fashion appeal, but she doesn't seem to mind. As to if she'll ever get married, Jenny told Diva, "You know, that's a hard one. Either we get the same laws as heterosexual couples, or I don't want it at all. But I'd like to settle down and get married. I feel like, as gay people, we date each other and being girlfriends has always been enough for me, but I'm not sure.

Good morning!
Firstly, a huge congrats to Brandi Carlile for tying the knot to partner Catherine Shepherd this past Saturday. The two married in Boston, where they made it legal, and will have two more celebrations coming up in Seattle and London. I can't wait to see photos of what they wore.
Here's what else happened over the weekend. Naya Rivera won her second and third Alma awards for favorite TV comedy actress and favorite female musician.

Carrie Brownstein and Karey Dornetto attended the Creative Arts Emmys.

As did Dot Marie Jones.

The Atlantic has a post called How to Tell That a Show is Past its Expiration Date and cites some of our favorites as having jumped the shark early on. I admittedly watched The O.C.

Filming started today in Enfield on a brand new six part comedy for Sky called Gates, a character based sitcom based around relationships formed between parents at the school gates.
Tom Ellis and Joanna Page play parents Mark and Helen who’ve recently moved to the South East where their nine-year-old daughter is starting at a new primary school. And they’re about to discover what happens when your children choose your friends.
Essentially a character comedy, but with a nod to those sketch-like moments of madness which can only ever happen in the playground, Gates casts an eye on how relationships with parents formed during fifteen minutes of a school drop off and pick up can so easily take over your life. The school gates can be an unforgiving, socially exposed political minefield.
Gates boasts a distinguished cast that also includes:
Sue Johnston (The Royle Family, Waking The Dead), Tony Gardner (Lead Balloon,...
