[This story contains spoilers to the finale of Amazon’s Dead Ringers.]
In a show that centers on a twisted relationship between brilliant, codependent twins, Rebecca Parker and Susan also play an intriguing duo.
Dead Ringers, Amazon Prime Video’s six-part limited series that reimagines David Cronenberg’s psychological thriller, centers on the Mantle twins, identical world-renowned gynecologists Beverly and Elliot who are played by Oscar winner Rachel Weisz in a double lead role. The feminized series from creator Alice Birch thrusts the 1988 story into modern day as the Mantles (who were played by Jeremy Irons in the movie) set out to revolutionize childbirth. With that goal comes another twisted relationship with the business of maternal health, and that’s where Rebecca Parker, played by Jennifer Ehle, and her fourth wife, Susan, played by Emily Meade, come in.

Thirty-five years after David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers” made a pioneering splash in the body horror film genre, Prime Video’s new Rachel Weisz-led series is anything but a “straight remake.”
“It’s such an incredible iconic film, and we never wanted to do a straight remake, or anything other than really just pay homage, but also find our own storyline,” creator Alice Birch told TheWrap. “It’s really all about the twins.”
The thriller series follows Elliot and Beverly Mantle — twins played by Weisz with the same name as the leads in the 1988 flick — whose co-dependence seeps into virtually each segment of their life. In the film, the twins played by Jeremy Irons worked as gynecologists; Weisz’s Beverly and Elliot work as obstetricians.
The more reserved Beverly is content with delivering babies as she tries for her own, while Elliot is focused on pushing the boundaries of maternal health into unethical territory.

Viewers have turned to the cable network Hln over the years for a quick-hit version of its sister, CNN; for coverage of court cases; for Robin Meade’s long-running morning news shows; and for a bevy of true-crime programs, including Nancy Grace’s primetime talk show and repeats of “Forensic Files.” What it will be recognized for over the months to come is anybody’s guess.
CNN — and, by proxy, its corporate parent, Warner Bros. Discovery — nearly gutted the cable outlet Thursday by cancelling Meade’s “Morning Express,” which has been on the air in some form or another since 2001. The company also declared that it would not longer produce new live programming for the network and that Kathleen Finch, not CNN chief Chris Licht, would take over the true-crime shows, which would be made part of another cable outlet, ID, known for similar stuff. Former CNN anchor Brian Stelter says the demise of live programming on Hln marks the end of companionship TV in an op-ed published in The Atlantic Friday.
“The demise of Hln, CNN’s 40-year-old sister station, which will stop airing original newscasts next week, deserves attention not just because it marks the end of an era but because it’s a reminder of how eras in media actually end. Before death comes obsolescence,” Stelter wrote. “Viewers tuning in for companionship may find only the faintest echo of what once was. The TV will still be on, but all the warmth is gone.”
Though Stelter notes that “Media Winter” consistently brings layoffs and cost-cutting measures across the industry — this year that list includes CNN, who recently laid off hundreds of staffers, The Washington Post, NPR and Gannett newspaper chain — he sees cutting Hln’s live programming as “fixture of cable television [that went] belly up.

The hundreds of layoffs at CNN this week were, as CNN boss Chris Licht predicted, a “gut punch,” but the question for staffers — and viewers — is what will happen next.
For viewers, the changes may be apparent in a number of ways, particularly at Hln, where the Robin Meade-anchored Morning Express is ending and Meade, whose first day on air at Hln was Sept. 11, 2001, is departing along with staffers. Instead, CNN will replace the morning show with a simulcast of CNN This Morning, the relaunched version of New Day. Hln, which was formerly the newscast-dominated Headline News, had shifted for the rest of the day to largely a format of true-crime shows, something that resembles Warner Bros Discovery sibling network ID. So it wasn’t a complete surprise that ID would take on responsibilities for the true-crime block.

Forty years after it was founded by Ted Turner, Hln is getting out of the live TV business.
The CNN offshoot, originally called Headline News, has canceled all of its live programming, with its crime-focused docuseries merging with sister Wbd channel ID under Kathleen Finch.
The Hln shakeup is part of wider layoffs that took place Thursday at CNN Worldwide, as CEO Chris Licht seeks to cut back on costs amid an increasingly difficult economic environment.
“Our goal throughout the strategic review process has been to better align our people, processes and resources with our future priorities, strengthen our ability to deliver on CNN’s core journalistic mission and enable us to innovate in the years ahead,” Licht told staff in a memo Thursday afternoon. “At the highest level, the goal is to direct our resources to best serve and grow audiences for...

Hln, formerly known as CNN’s Headline News cable channel, is ceasing its live-programming operations. That means “Morning Express with Robin Meade” and “Weekend Express” are canceled, a person with knowledge of the plans told IndieWire this morning.
In place of “Morning Express,” Hln will now simulcast new CNN morning show “CNN This Morning.” Meade, who has been with the cable news channel since September 11, 2001, and her staff have been laid off.
CNN chief Chris Licht on Wednesday warned staff via email that layoffs were about to begin. On Thursday, he sent a much-lengthier memo, also obtained by IndieWire, about the reorg. Read that one in full at the bottom of this post.
Like big brother CNN (and much of the linear-tv industry), Hln felt the effects of audience fragmentation via the ratings. Hln is down 11 percent in total viewers to-date from last year’s averages, according to Nielsen data.

Updated: Some of the major cutbacks at CNN are occurring at Hln, which will cease live programming, while its true crime line up will be merged with Investigation Discovery to produce its true-crime slate.
A simulcast of CNN This Morning will take the place of Hln Morning Express with Robin Meade, according to a source with knowledge of the plans. Meade is leaving the network along with staffers who were part of the layoffs, and Weekend Express also will be dropped from the schedule. The true crime programming will move to Warner Bros. CNN will no longer produce live programming on its Hln network in the latest round of intense budget slashing and layoffs. With that decision comes the end of Morning Express with Robin Meade, and the anchor will be leaving the network after two decades on air. A simulcast of CNN This Morning will take the Morning Express time slot, according to Variety. Hln’s true-crime programming will remain but will now be produced in partnership with Investigation Discovery. In addition to Meade’s departure, a handful of correspondents and journalists were also laid off from the network in the Thursday, December 1 cuts. CNN correspondents Alison Kosik, Martin Savidge, Alex Field, Mary Ann Fox, and Chris Cillizza are reportedly among those let go. Additionally, up-and-coming daytime anchor Ana Cabrera will reportedly leave CNN for NBC News, per a separate Variety report, and will likely end up at MSNBC. Cabrera has anchored CNN Newsroom’s 1 p.

Michael Myers isn’t looking as good as he used to. In 2018’s Halloween (watch it Here), the latex of his mask was deteriorating – which makes sense, since it was the same mask he wore during his 1978 killing spree. The ending of that movie left the mask with burn damage for Halloween Kills (watch that one Here). Now four years have passed between the events of Halloween Kills and the upcoming sequel Halloween Ends, and when we catch up with Myers this time we’ll find that his mask is showing more wear and tear… and has even gotten moldy. Trick or Treat Studios will be selling replicas of Halloween Ends‘ moldy Myers mask, and are going to start accepting pre-orders (for the price of 79.99) at that link on September 15th. In the meantime, you can see an image of the Trick or Treat Studios replica mask at the bottom of this article.

We’re only a month and a half away from having the chance to see the latest Halloween sequel, Halloween Ends, as the film is set to reach theatres on October 14th and will be available to watch on the Peacock streaming service the same day (for viewers with a paid subscription to Peacock Premium or Premium Plus). Despite how close the release date is, director David Gordon Green has revealed to Empire that he is still working on the film’s ending… and along with the quote from Green, Empire also shared a bloody new image from Halloween Ends, which you can check out at the bottom of this article.
Green told Empire that the ending of Halloween Ends
changes every day. In theory, the picture is locked, but this morning I called the editor and said, ‘What if we do this one thing…’ … It’s exciting, uncertain, satisfying and sad.

Last year, Halloween Kills was released in theatres and on the Peacock streaming service on the same day. Now the official Halloween franchise Twitter account has released a special announcement delivered by the film’s star Jamie Lee Curtis: the new sequel Halloween Ends will be using the same release strategy as Halloween Kills! Halloween Ends is set to reach theatres on October 14th, and will be available to watch on Peacock the same day!
You will need to have a paid subscription to Peacock Premium or Premium Plus to watch Halloween Ends, as the ad-supported free version of the service will not have the film.

In the weeks and months following #MeToo, the absence of safety measures in place for filming sex scenes became increasingly perplexing. The term “intimacy coordinator” began cropping up everywhere, with sets and studios scrambling to find solutions. Fight scenes and stunts are choreographed to the millisecond; why should sex scenes be any different?
