NBC has opted not to renew family drama Council of Dads, sources confirm to Deadline. The decision comes two episodes before the end of the drama’s Season 1 run. Co-star J. August Richards revealed the cancellation in an Instagram post, noting that “tonight is my favorite episode of the season!!!” (You can read his message to fans below)
Council of Dads premiered on March 24 following the season finale of This Is Us. It was the second consecutive drama series in the mold of This Is Us launched by NBC that did not go beyond one season, following last season’s The Village. Council of Dads ranks as one of NBC’s lowest rated drama series of the season. It joins fellow freshman NBC series Bluff City Law, Lincoln Rhyme, Perfect Harmony, Indebted and Sunnyside which all have been canceled. The one NBC first-year scripted show to make it to Season 2 is Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

NBC has shifted back the series premiere of its new drama “Council of Dads” by two weeks so that it will now air immediately after the Season 4 finale of “This Is Us.”
The freshman show will also be changing weeknights when it returns, as it was originally scheduled to settled into the Dan Fogelman-created drama’s 9 p.m. Tuesday slot once that series ended its current run. Now it’s going to Thursdays, with “Ellen’s Game of Games” taking over the time period from “This Is Us.”
“Council of Dads,” which was set to debut at 10/9c on Tuesday, March 10, will now premiere in that same hour on Tuesday, March 24, just after the final episode of the fourth season of “This Is Us.”

Constant readers will soon get the chance to hang out at Stephen King’s mansion in Bangor, Maine — although he likely will not be on the premises.
On Wednesday night, the Bangor City Council unanimously approved a request by King and his wife Tabitha to rezone their home as a non-profit, allowing it to house an archive of King’s work (offering restricted visits by appointment) and up to five writers at a time. The couple was not present at the meeting. In recent years, the family has spent most...

Like any filmmaker, New Zealand-based Australian David Gould wants his action-thriller The Cure to reach a wide audience- but he.s concluded that releasing the film in cinemas in either country is not cost-effective.
The film will premiere on February 6 at The Embassy Cinema in Wellington and will then be available on DVD, VOD platforms Vimeo and IndieReign and pay-tv.s Rialto Channel.
.We are self-distributing in New Zealand as I think that theatrical releases don.t really work for indie films,. says Gould, who worked for Weta Digital on the visual effects of numerous films including two editions of The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Adventures of Tintin.
.We aren.t doing a theatrical release because we don.t feel that the expense really brings the corresponding returns. The general public want to see the film in a way that is convenient for them,...

Filmmaker David Gould shares with Encore his experience with Screen Australia at Cannes.
Ever wonder why overseas productions aren’t coming to Australia or why it is so difficult for Australian producers to gain exposure in the international arena? Two reasons: zero exposure and lack of support for producers.
Sunday, May 16
I’m sitting here at Cannes writing this in the Film Market. To my left is a large booth with the banner “Cinema From Spain”. To my right is the Belgian film commission with a large booth. Where is the Australian booth? There isn’t any. Instead there is a small apartment on the 8th floor of a building accessible only by a side street with no signage. Whatsmore, the lift only goes to the 7th floor, you then must exit and take the fire escape up to the 8th floor (again no signs) till you reach Screen Australia’s presence here.
