The Super Mario franchise is a cornerstone of the video game industry. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach…we know these names better than we know the names of our own parents (whoever they may claim to be). Yet, for as much as we know about the Super Mario franchise, there is so much we don’t know about it. Much of the series is still shrouded in mystery.
So if you’ve ever wondered what’s in the darkest corners of the Super Mario franchise, here are some of the most notable Super Mario urban legends and unsolved mysteries.
15. The True Origins of Donkey Kong’s Name
The Donkey Kong arcade game may have given Mario his big break, but Donkey Kong has obviously gone on to become a household name himself. That’s what makes it so strange that the true origins of Donkey Kong’s name remain something of a mystery.

One might hope upon watching The Last Horror Movie that if it is not indeed the last of its genre, that perhaps it might be the last found footage horror movie. Alas, it came out in 2003, and that hopeful prophecy has most definitely not come to pass. The once-fresh subgenre has since been beaten into the dust by an overabundance of films that are low on budget as well as creativity, using found footage as a crutch upon which to lean a weak story. This one in particular, which has recently been re-released on DVD via Fangoria's Gorezone, focuses on Max (Kevin Howarth), a wedding videographer and serial killer living in London. Max has enlisted an unnamed assistant (Mark Stevenson) off the streets to help him document his killings, as well as random scenes of his regular life, on video, in order to show the world that the face of...

Found footage horror films are usually a tough trick to pull off well. Not only do they require realistic performances and events so that audiences are (at least partly) convinced that what they’re seeing is real enough for the length of the movie, but the filmmakers have to also balance that with telling a compelling, terrifying and – crucially – entertaining story. Some are more successful than others, with The Blair Witch Project and the [Rec] series being more obvious examples, but the found footage train has seemed to be running out of steam lately with many of the films made in the style regurgitating tropes that were only developed in the last twenty years and offering fuzzy, ill-executed plots that often only resolve when the protagonists buy the farm.
