If Sarah Snook felt at all concerned about how to follow her career-defining, award-winning turn as Shiv Roy on Succession, a fear of ever reaching such heights again, of even coming close to filling that professional hole, then she must now feel rather blessed — if also, every night, unbelievably exhausted.
Snook returns to the London stage for the first time since 2016, when, pre-Shiv, the relatively unknown Australian actress shone opposite Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder. Now, she carries the massive weight of Kip Williams’ bravura adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s only novel. Snook plays not just the eternally young but damnably debauched Dorian Gray, but every one of the 26 parts in two unbroken hours of ceaselessly kinetic, highly choreographed, tech-heavy action. And she’s phenomenal.

British Buggery.
After closing out January with the very gay (and very terrible) The Covenant (listen) and the pseudo-remake of Single White Female: The Roommate (listen), we kicked off February with journey to the world of H.P. Lovecraft in Re-Animator. Now, we’re traveling back in time to discuss Albert Lewin‘s 1945 adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray.
In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Lord Henry Wotton (George Sanders), tells his friend Dorian Gray (Hurd Hatfield) that men should pursue their sensual longings, but laments that only the young get to do so. Taken with the idea, Dorian inadvertently makes a Faustian bargain to stay young forever. His wish comes true, and his boyish looks aid him as he indulges his every whim. Unfortunately, his sins take physical form on a portrait of himself, and as the years go by he must decide what type of man he wants to be.

Jessica Capshaw is checking back into Grey Sloan.
The actress, who spent 10 seasons playing Dr. Arizona Robbins from 2009-2018, is returning to reprise her role in the upcoming 20th season of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Capshaw will be joined by Alex Landi, who returns as Dr. Nico Kim, and franchise newcomers Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares as guest stars in the milestone season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama. Additional guest stars are expected to be announced as the show inches closer toward its strikes-delayed return on March 14 at 9 p.m.
Capshaw exited Grey’s in 2018, at the end of its 14th season when Arizona moved from Seattle to New York so her daughter, Sofia, could be in the same city with her other mother, Callie (former series regular Sara Ramirez), as the fan-favorite former couple “Calzona” appeared poised for a reunion.

In this week’s Penny Dreadful — a particularly eventful outing, wouldn’t you agree? — Victor set in motion his plan to “cure” Lily, the Creature was reunited with his son, Sir Malcolm helped Ethan resolve his issues with his father, and Vanessa took Dr. Seward’s advice to bring in reinforcements against Dracula. And it all went so spectacularly badly that, by the end of the hour, enough characters had been killed off that Dr. Frankenstein could be kept busy for an entire season just resurrecting them all. Who made it to the closing credits with a pulse? Read on and find out.
