The traditional pilot process may be dying out but that’s not stopping the glitz and glamor of the TV Upfronts in New York.
Traditionally, broadcast networks would be scrambling to make dozens of last minute decisions on a crop of new shows as well as heavily negotiated renewals as we head into the week of Upfronts. However, that is now largely a thing of the past as ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW continue with their year-round development strategies.
This year’s Upfronts should be slightly smoother sailing than last year’s event, which was affected by the writers strike.
But that hasn’t stopped the majority of these networks – excluding CBS and The CW – as well as some of their streaming rivals in the shape of Amazon and Netflix from using the week of Upfronts to tout their latest wares and show off their talent in front of advertisers.

After two seasons, ABC has canceled the Gina Rodriguez-led and executive-produced comedy series Not Dead Yet.
Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not Dead Yet centers on newly single and feeling-old Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a self-described disaster who works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé get his restaurant off the ground. Following their breakup, she takes the only job she can get – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backward but ultimately might be exactly what she needs to move forward.
Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia and Brad Garrett also star.
When the show premiered in early 2023, it was ABC’s most-watched comedy debut in more than 4 years. However, the ratings didn’t stick in Season 2. Deadline’s Editor-in-Chief of...

Blue Bloods stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan are saying a sad farewell to the CBS drama series. In an appearance Tuesday on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wahlberg and Moynahan shared a clip from the 14th and final season, which is currently airing, that features the Reagans at their weekly Sunday dinner.
Barrymore asked the two how they’re feeling as the end approaches. “I think everybody’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated?,” she questioned.
“More upset and sad,” Wahlberg said.
Responding to co-host Ross Mathews when asked what it feels like saying goodbye to the characters, Moynahan explained, “I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters. We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births,...

Exclusive: Following his stunning ouster from Verve, the agency he co-founded in 2010, where he’d most recently served as CEO, veteran agent Bill Weinstein looks to have found his next destination, as multiple sources tell Deadline that he’s in talks to join Paradigm.
Paradigm declined comment, and Weinstein couldn’t be reached, but we’ll update this story with his statement if and when it comes in.
As we were first to report, it had previously been speculated that Weinstein would be setting up his own shop named Novo, and bring the Verve trio of Devon Schiff, Matthew Doyle and Jake Dillman with him following their own departures from the agency. Whether any or all of them will be joining him at Paradigm isn’t yet clear.
We also hear that Weinstein’s own deal isn’t yet done. But he’s expected to bring with him a strong...

Exclusive Updated: Re-start of production has been postponed on season 3 of Foundation, the Apple TV+ saga that’s based on Isaac Asimov’s trilogy.
Issues with budgeting and physical production/ prompted the delay of filming in Prague and Poland, which had been scheduled to begin this month, sources tell Deadline. Cast and crew who had already convened for the shoot were told to return home while production issues are sorted out, with the budget brought down. No new start date has been set.
This is the second time Season 3 production has been paused on the series that stars Jared Harris and Lee Pace and chronicles the saga of The Foundation, a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it. Updated 1/19; Originally published 1’8: CBS can breathe a sigh of relief.
The Golden Globes appears to be on the up and up, with 9.4M live + same-day viewers tuning in to watch the 81st annual ceremony, up 50% from 2023’s show, according to early Nielsen data. This number is likely to go up slightly when final numbers are in.
Update: In Nielsen’s time zone-adjusted fast nationals, including Out-of-Home ratings, the Sunday audience for the show reached 10 million. Additionally, the proprietary live streaming platform of Deadline parent Penske Media amassed more than 6 million additional views in its first 24 hours across sites including Deadline.
That’s a win for CBS and for the Globes after the award show attracted its lowest audience ever last year on NBC. The increased audience is likely due in part to the fact that the ceremony was moved back to Sunday, after airing on a Tuesday in 2023. The...

Kit Harington says his fame from HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones caused him to struggle with mental health issues and alcoholism.
Speaking on the wellness podcast Hidden 20%, Harington said he entered rehab in 2019 for alcoholism, and was diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (Adhd) while there.
“I realized that my life was hinging on this,” he told host Ben Branson. “Luckily, it was the right place at the right time. I managed to forge a new life from there.”
Harington claimed that he “entered rehab drunk, sobered up in there, and went, ‘F— this, not you guys in a circle. No, thank you.’”
Harington eventually went to a second rehab facility, was where he was made aware of his Adhd.
“And I left that pretty quick and said, ‘I’ll try to deal with this by myself,’ which didn’t work after about four years,” he said.

Miracle Workers has come to an end. TBS has canceled the anthology comedy series, its last remaining live-action comedy, after four seasons. The Season 4 finale, which is now the series finale, aired August 28.
The cancellation is not entirely unexpected. Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported in January that Season 4 could be the last. At the time, she heard that TBS no longer had options on the cast, led by Daniel Radcliffe, so new deals would need to be made for a possible fifth season — a daunting proposition, which networks rarely resort to. But she heard that the series’ creative team had an idea for a potential fifth season that Radcliffe was excited about, so, if Season 4 did well ratings-wise, it was possible that the show could have continued with Radcliffe, who would have needed to make a new pact.

Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again has rounded out its revamped creative team with a new showrunner and directors. Dario Scardapane has been tapped as showrunner and directing team Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Loki) are set to direct the Charlie Cox series, sources confirm to Deadline.
The series has been revamping its creative team after determining the show wasn’t working as is. Head scribes Chris Ord and Matt Corman and episodic directors were let go, but remain EPs on the two-season series. Daredevil, which first aired on Netflix, follows Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind attorney turned crimefighting superhero.
Less than half of the series’ 18 episodes were shot. Marvel plans to keep some footage though the series will pivot from being a procedural show to having a more serialized focus. Scardapone will write the new episodes, incorporating what was already shot, we’re told.

Ozark vet John Shiban has been named executive producer and showrunner for NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime. Shiban fills the last remaining open showrunner spot for Wolf Entertainment & Universal Television’s drama series following the end of the writers strike. Law & Order: Organized Crime is set to air in midseason.
Shiban replaces Sean Jablonski, who stepped down as showrunner in March, the fourth showrunner to exit the NBC police procedural in a little over a year. At the time, Svu’s David Graziano stepped in to oversee the remaining three episodes of Season 3.
Writers rooms began opening earlier this month, shortly after the WGA reached a deal, for Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV’s three Chicago dramas for NBC, three FBI dramas for CBS as well as NBC’s Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu.

SAG-AFTRA’s scheduled talks with the video game industry, which began Tuesday, have ended with no agreement.
In a terse joint statement tonight, the union and the vidgame producers said: “SAG-AFTRA and video game employers concluded scheduled negotiations for the Interactive Media Agreement. No deal was reached and the current agreement will remain in effect while the parties make final efforts to reach a deal.”
The news comes days after SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000-strong membership voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike against 10 of the major video game companies; the vote was 98.32% in favor.
Many of the issues involved in the union’s 11-week film and TV strike are common to those in the video game contract, including wages and artificial intelligence.
The 10 companies facing a possible strike are:
Activision Productions Inc.,
Blindlight LLC,
Disney Character Voices Inc.,
Electronic Arts Productions Inc.,
Epic Games, Inc.,
Formosa Interactive LLC,
Insomniac Games Inc.,
Take 2 Productions Inc.

Exclusive: The Writers Guild of America has opened investigations on both coasts into complaints by members of delayed and smaller than usual residual checks.
Instigated over the past few days as the WGA strike moves deeper into its fourth month, the probe specifically is looking at issues with third-quarter payments that scribes on a number of network and premium cable shows have reported apparently late or lower than usual payments, I hear.
“What’s been showing up in my mailbox is definitely smaller than previous quarters and last year,” one showrunner said of his recent residuals checks.
“The quarter isn’t over yet, but my checks so far seem delayed,” one veteran writer said, noting how the lack of incoming funds is hurting his ability to meet core financial obligations.

The Last Of Us fans can rest easy. The buzzy Emmy-nominated series’ co-creator Neil Druckmann tells EW in an interview, “We’ve outlined all of season 2 and we’re ready to go as soon as the strike ends.”

By May 1, when the writers strike began and script work was put on hold, the new season had already taken shape, The Last of Us co-creator/executive producer Craig Mazin told Deadline in an interview tied to the series’ big showing on Emmy nominations day, confirming the new writers who had joined him and fellow co-creator/EP, the game’s Druckmann, for Season 2.
“We got pretty far actually, we were doing great,” Mazin said.

There will be no third season for How I Met Your Father. Hulu has canceled the Hilary Duff-led sequel series after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed.
News of the decision comes on the heels of Hulu also canceling popular comedy The Great after three seasons, and Disney+ not going forward with two new series and cancelling Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. after two seasons amid companywide streaming content cuts at Disney.
In How I Met Your Father, written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, in the near future, Sophie (Kim Cattrall) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie (Hilary Duff) and her close-knit group of friends – Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran) and Sid (Suraj Sharma) — are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life,...

Good afternoon Insiders, it’s been quite the week as the ripples of the SAG strike continue to be felt around the world. Max Goldbart here with the roundup. And you can sign up here.
SAG Strike Week One
We’ve been here before: It feels just a smidgeon like we’ve been here before. As the SAG-AFTRA strike enters its second week (most likely of many), we can reflect on a seven days packed full of tributes, pickets and, internationally, plenty of confusion over projects. In the U.S., actors have been hitting the pickets in their droves, joining up with scribes who have been doing the same for coming up to three months. Where has the time gone? There are also of course question marks over promotion and upcoming festivals, in amongst Comic-Con, with TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey most recently declaring that the September fest is on. All in all,...

Exclusive: It Ends with Us, the Justin Baldoni-directed film that stars Blake Lively and Baldoni, has had its production shoot ended until the resolution of the WGA strike. The decision was made Thursday, with less than half of the movie completed. The reason for the film halting was an inability to persuade the WGA that the co-financing status of Wayfarer Studios was enough to consider that the production was within WGA guidelines, even though the film will be a negative pickup for signatory Sony Pictures.
As Deadline revealed earlier this week, the film’s shoot in parts of New Jersey was disrupted and a temporary halt called while the film’s producers tried to persuade the WGA. The WGA disagreed, sources said. This is inevitable shrapnel of a strike that will likely continue, as the AMPTP and WGA negotiators aren’t even meeting right now. Sources said 140 or so...

Original Superman & Lois cast member Wolé Parks is reacting to his dismissal from the upcoming fourth season of the CW series amid budget cuts. Parks is among seven series regulars dismissed from the upcoming season, including Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Tayler Buck and Sofia Hasmik. Of those seven, Walsh, Chriqui, Valdez and Navarrette had been on the show from the start. There’s a lot to unpack to properly adapt The Dark Tower books by Stephen King.
There have been past efforts that fell flat, and now there’s a writer’s strike that has tied up producton. But director Mike Flanagan remains optimistic that he can bring home a compelling version, as he related Thurday at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The Haunting of Hill House director confessed that The Dark Tower was his dream project.
“That’s the one I want to do the most,” Flanagan said to moderator Justina Ireland “I have the rights. We’re on strike. But I’m very optimistic that we’re on a great path with that, we have good partners, we can’t talk about it, but I think it’s going to happen. I can’t say for certain, but we look good. So I’m hoping that’s up there.”

Exclusive: Daredevil: Born Again and The Penguin finally have thrown in the towel: Deadline has learned that the Disney+ series and the Max drama will remain on pause until the end of the WGA Strike — whenever that may be.
New York-based writers routinely have picketed the Marvel series Daredevil outside of its base at Silvercup East. Production repeatedly has been shut down on the drama, most recently on June 12. Production on the revival was previously paused by sunrise picketing when members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 refused to cross the line. It was then suspended for the rest of the week.
It’s been roughly the same for The Penguin, The Batman spinoff that also has been targeted repeatedly by WGA East picketers.

Yes, Kim Cattrall will appear in Season 2 of And Just Like That... Cattrall will reprise her role as Samantha Jones in the second season of the Sex and the City sequel series, Deadline has learned.
There are no details about the storyline, but we’ve learned she will make a brief cameo appearance in the Season 2 finale. Initiated by HBO/Max execs, her scene took place in a car and was filmed toward the end of Season 2 New York production in March, sources confirm to Deadline. Cattrall had no interaction with the And Just Like That… cast or showrunner Michael Patrick King.
The cameo was conceived as a one-off but the door has been left open for more if the series gets a third season, sources said.
In addition to playing Samantha in Sex and the City, Cattrall also played the character in the two Sex and the City sequel movies.

Citadel doesn’t premiere on Amazon Prime Video until April 28, but the spy thriller starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden is set for a second season, and it’s coming to California.

In total, seven TV series — two relocations, five new shows — are in line to receive around $80 million in incentives for this allocation round. See the list below.
In fact, Citadel isn’t the only Amazon series to benefit from California’s generous program this time around, with a list that includes a couple of untitled series as well as HBO’s Wondermill, which appears to be a code name for The Rehearsal, whose first season filmed in Oregon.
As both the WGA and DGA head into talks for contract negotiations with the AMPTP, producers at last night’s PGA awards had a wait-and-see attitude.
Much of that has to do with the fact that the WGA hasn’t set its pattern of demands yet with talks set to begin on March 20. Their contract expires on May 1, while DGA and SAG-AFTRA’s expires on June 30.
As they have done in the past, studios are preparing for a potential strike but there is no real sense of urgency, at least not for now.
“We’re getting in as many scripts as we can in time, but not going crazy, and we have our productions planned for what’s going next in the summer and the fall, and we feel pretty optimistic about what we have in front of us creatively,” said Warner Bros Co-Chairman Pamela Abdy, who was co-honored with...

TBS has expanded its All Elite Wrestling franchise by greenlighting Aew: All Access, a documentary series featuring the league’s biggest stars.
The show, slated to premiere this March, will feature Adam Cole, Dr. Britt Baker, Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, The Young Bucks, Saraya, Wardlow, and Eddie Kingston, along with Aew CEO, Gm, and Head of Creative Tony Khan.
“With the new Aew: All Access series, they’ll have a chance to peek behind the curtain and into the lives of their favorite wrestlers like never before,” said Khan.
Each episode will showcase Aew’s stars as they navigate their week-to-week challenges. Aew: All Access joins TBS and TNT’s other wrestling content, including Aew: Dynamite and Aew: Rampage.
This marks the first new unscripted series greenlighted by TBS in 2023 and falls under the strategy by the new Wbd regime for launching entertainment programming that complements the Turner networks’ sports/wrestling coverage.

Too inside baseball for you, Hulu viewers? Whatever the reason, Reboot — Steve Levitan’s show-within-a-show comedy that starred Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville and Judy Greer — will not see a second season at the streamer.
The single-camera comedy followed execs at Hulu who decide to reboot a family comedy from the 2000s. Actors from the original return to reprise their roles for the reboot, and “deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world,” according to the original logline.

Spoiler alert: Article contains major spoilers for “Emily in Paris” season 3.
“Emily in Paris” creator/executive producer Darren Star discusses some of the big season 3 storylines, as well as some of the backlash the show has faced in the past in a new interview with Deadline.
Reporter Nellie Andreeva brings up that Ukrainian immigrant storyline in season 2 in the candid chat, which saw Petra, played by Daria Panchenko, meet lead character Emily (played by Lily Collins) in French class before they went shopping together and she stole an array of expensive items.
The episode faced criticism when it was shown earlier this year, with Star now saying: “Can I say one little thing about that? We cast this actress and just asked her, where are you from? She said Kyiv, so we made her Ukrainian.
“It wasn’t written like, she has to be Ukrainian; it was written as anywhere,...
