If you don't remember seeing Carrie Preston before, or your knowledge is limited by The Good Wife and The Good Fight, which were Elsbeth's predecessors, here's the list of movies and TV shows to fill in the blanks and watch before season 2 arrives.
And Then I Go (2017)
Even though Carrie Preston's role in this movie is very small, that doesn't make it any worse. And Then I Go has been praised by critics not only for its intriguing and exciting plot, but also for its strong social commentary on the problem...

X-Men '97 was a big hit with critics right from the start, but the Disney+ revival series has now become the highest-rated Marvel Studios project - live-action or animated, big or small screen - in the 16-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With more reviews now counted for last Wednesday's season finale, X-Men '97 has reached a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This takes it past Marvel's previous top-rated Disney+ show, Ms. Marvel (98%), and movie, Black Panther (96%), to become the most positively-reviewed MCU project of all time on the popular aggregator site.
The series wasn't only a critical favourite, as Deadline reports that May 15th's cameo-filled finale, "Tolerance is Extinction, Part 3," amassed a whopping 3.5 million views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform, making it the most-viewed full-length animated series finale since Season 1 of What If…?.

Paolo Sorrentino has done a wide range of films but until his most personal, The Hand of God two years ago (a prize winner in Venice), he had not returned to Naples, the land of his youth, except for the very first feature he made, 2001’s One Man Up. Since then though, he has been to Cannes with his films six times, and his impressive list of movies have included The Consequences of Love, Il Divo, Loro and his Oscar-winning The Great Beauty. There have been more mixed reactions for his starry English-language films like Youth and This Must Be the Place, but Italy seems to drive his creative mojo and may be closest to his heart in the current phase of his filmmaking career when he has found new inspiration by going back to his youth, first in Hand of God which closely reflected his own coming of age in Naples,...

Pope Francis called out “conservative critics” for having a “suicidal attitude” in a new interview. The Pope defined a conservative as someone who “clings to something and does not want to see beyond that.”
“Because one thing is to take tradition into account, to consider situations from the past, but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box,” the Pope told 60 Minutes.
In the past, Francis has addressed criticism from United States religious figures, even removing some people from their titles. Bishop Joseph Strickland was removed from his post in Tyler, Texas after Strickland frequently criticized the Pope online. In August 2023, Francis said the U.S. Catholic Church holds “a very strong reactionary attitude.”
Francis’ interview with Norah O’Donnell also included conversations about Ukraine, Israel, Gaza and climate change. Francis also addressed sexual abuse in the Church and his commitment to inclusivity. In January, Francis faced...

Exclusive: The finale of X-Men ’97 has set a promising track record for Disney+.
The episode, which debuted on May 15, saw 3.5M views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform. That makes it the most-viewed full-length animation series finale since Season 1 of What If…?, the Walt Disney Company says.
According to Disney, viewership had been growing consistently over the four episodes leading to the finale.
X-Men ’97 premiered in March with 4M views collectively across the first two episodes in their first five days on the platform.
The exact breakdown of viewership for each episode is unclear, but regardless it does indicate a strong, growing interest for the animated series, since the finale alone was nearly able to match the audience of the first two episodes in the same time frame.
As an added bonus, Disney also says that viewership for the original 1992 X-Men animated series has doubled since X-Men ’97 premiered.

This Doctor Who article contains spoilers.
From 1963 to 2020, the title character of Doctor Who belonged to an alien species from Gallifrey, generally known as Time Lords. Throughout the wibbly-wobbly Who canon, not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords, but all Time Lords were certainly two-hearted Gallifreyans, and the Doctor was always both. That is, until they weren’t. In the 2020 Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) episode “The Timeless Children,” it was revealed that the Doctor was actually the first Time Lord, and that the ability to regenerate was harvested from them, and then integrated into Time Lord culture. Basically, the Doctor was still a Time Lord, but the actual background of the originating species they hailed from, became a retroactive mystery.
And now, in the 2024 Doctor Who “season one” the newly bi-generated Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) is mentioning this new canon a lot. Here’s how Doctor Who is honoring this controversial continuity change,...

After an exciting, often shocking run of episodes, the season 1 finale of X-Men '97 hits Disney+ next Wednesday, and (former) showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared some "homework" for fans who might want a cryptic hint about what to expect from "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3."
Spoilers for last week's episode and (potentially) Wednesday's instalment follow.
DeMayo posted an image from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5, episode 18, "Cause and Effect." This episode of the beloved sci-fi series saw the crew of the Enterprise caught in a time-loop, with the ship being destroyed over and over again, and Picard, Riker, Data and co. having to figure out how to reset the anomaly.
Does this suggest that the X-Men will find themselves in a similar situation? "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2" certainly left the team in dire straits, with Jean Grey killed(?) by a Mr. Sinister-controlled Cable, and Wolverine's Adamantium...

There's only two more episodes of X-Men '97 to go, and Marvel Studios has released a clip from tomorrow's penultimate season 1 chapter, "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2."
The preview finds our mutant heroes suiting-up in new costumes for their impending battle with Bastion and his forces.
The outfits are a mixture of the team's classic looks, and the costumes they wore in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men. The clip also sees Jubilee burn Roberto DaCosta's business card, so Sunspot must have decided not to join the fight.
Former showrunner Beau DeMayo hinted at the costume change when he shared the unused pilot for Pryde of the X-Men earlier today.
DeMayo was also asked if he's ever heard any talk of adding Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat to the X-Men '97 roster.
"I haven’t, but my suspicion is Jubilee and Kitty slightly compete in terms of their age and Pov on the team.

Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.
DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.
Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.
Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Like its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men ’97 remixes classic stories from X-Men comics to make them more palatable for television. But X-Men ’97 is also very much a continuation of Tas, returning to stories and themes that first aired almost three decades ago.
So it’s no surprise that season one showrunner Beau De Mayo has suggested that fans go back to a few classic Tas episodes ahead of the three-part X-Men ’97 finale, titled “Tolerance Is Extinction.” De Mayo points to the following story arcs specifically: “One Man’s Worth Parts 1 and 2,” “Sanctuary Parts 1 and 2,” “Descent,” and “The Final Decision.”

In 2017, a number of sources confirmed that Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama, had secured an internship with Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer being accused of s*xual harassment.
The 72-year-old was given a 23-year prison sentence after being found guilty in 2020 of first-degree criminal s*xual act and third-degree r*pe. The end of the fifth episode of "X-Men '97" gave fans quite the shock. Not only did the peaceful haven of Genosha suddenly find itself under attack by a massive Tri-Sentinel Master Mold that massacred unknown numbers of mutants, but the beloved X-Men team member Gambit met his demise in a final act of heroism that stopped the tragedy from getting even worse. A week later, the end of the sixth episode revealed that it was recurring X-Men villain Mister Sinister who was behind the attack, having manipulated Bolivar Trask into activating the Sentinel strike. But as we learned in this week's seventh episode, "Bright Eyes," Sinister is just one part of the equation.
Throughout episode 7 of "X-Men '97," Rogue is trying to figure out who was responsible for the destruction on Genosha and the death of Gambit. She's out for vengeance, and in her pursuit, she encounters Captain America,...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
As a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s, X-Men ’97 has really killed it with its first season. Not only does it capture the magic of the original show but it’s also successfully broken away from the original show’s limitations. For example, animators in the ’90s had to be strategic about how they portrayed violence on a kids show — Wolverine couldn’t use his claws on human or mutant enemies, so he spent a lot of his time unloading on Sentinels instead. But in 2024, we have Jubilee graphically splitting a monster’s head open with her firework powers and Gambit impaled by the Mother Mold. It probably helps that this revival of the series is as much for nostalgic adults who want a more grown-up take on these stories as it is for kids.

Coaches Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and Dan + Shay still have many talented singers on their respective teams. But that would all change in a new episode of The Voice.

At its core, the Alien franchise is easy to understand: people meet aliens, bad things happen. It’s a lot harder to keep track of when exactly these things occur.
Alien takes place in 2122, Aliens 57 years later, and then Alien 3 happens shortly afterwards. But then things get weird. Alien Resurrection jumps ahead 202 years, Prometheus begins sometime in prehistory and then in 2093, and Alien: Covenant is in 2104. Alien: Romulus will squeeze in between the first two movies, around 2142, which is 20 years after the original. And that’s not even going through the Alien vs Predator flicks or the countless games, books, and comics.
Then there’s the new Alien TV series coming from creator Noah Hawley, best known for the Fargo show and Legion. Deadline has confirmed the movie takes place about 30 years before the events of Alien, or as FX chief John Landgraf put it to THR, “near the...

X-Men ’97 delivered one of its most devastating episodes with Episode 5, which saw the brutal deaths of multiple mutants in the nation of Genosha, while also depicting the tragic fates of Magneto and Gambit. With the estimated number of mutants that were killed still under wraps, the event, as put forth by the writer of the show, was meant to emulate real-world tragedies like 9/11 and the Tulsa Massacre.

However, as the audiences reel from the tragedies of this episode, Marvel has also put forward the means for the attack on Genosha to be undone. Just before the attack began, we saw Cable rushing to find Madelyne Pryor, and trying to save the mutants. This could mean that the time-traveling mutant is looking to undo the events of Episode 5, which could prompt him to go back in time to prevent...

Time and again, the X-Men saga has proved to be Marvel Comics’ key source of bold, hard-hitting, poignant storytelling, with the stories of mutants acting as an allegorized account of the real-world treatment of the marginalized sections of society. With the latest episode of X-Men ’97, titled Remember It, viewers are once again reminded of the scope of such narratives, as a devastating tragedy taking place in the mutant nation of Genosha almost reminds us of an ongoing real-world crisis.

As upset as we may be that Station 19 is being forcibly ended by ABC, we can’t say that new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige aren’t sending the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff out with a spectacular bang. Take Thursday’s harrowing episode, for example. In “My Way,” a fire at the Space Needle nearly — but thankfully only nearly — did in Ben and Sullivan, who then wasted no time proposing to Ross. Last year, Angel Studios opened a booth at CinemaCon in Last Vegas to launch its distribution arm. That paid off handsomely after “Sound of Freedom” exploded to a $250 million worldwide gross. This year, they took to a much bigger stage for a Caesar’s Palace breakfast presentation and announced its intention to stun the industry again.
The Angel headliner was “David,” an animated musical based on the Biblical story of David vs. Goliath. Or, as the studio’s chief marketing officer Alex Nielsen told the audience: “We intend to release the most successful animated film of all time.”
Angel dated “David” for Thanksgiving weekend 2025, but it presented a full trailer and a full song to a packed, standing-room only house inside the Palace Ballroom. The trailer also touted that former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is an executive producer on the project.

X-Men: The Animated Series became a ’90s sensation in part because it so faithfully translated the stories of X-Men comics into Saturday morning cartoon form. That included not only classic storylines such as “Days of Future Past,” “Broodfall,” and more recently “Inferno” on X-Men ’97, but also bringing in even deep cut characters.

In 1979, Ridley Scott unleashed the science fiction classic "Alien" upon audiences and unwittingly kickstarted a lucrative franchise comprised of seven sequels and an assortment of books, comics, and video games. In August 2024, Fede Álvarez plans to release "Alien: Romulus," which will hopefully push the series in a creative new direction, delivering more Xenomorph horror action for audiences to enjoy.
The "Alien" franchise has amassed $1.6 billion at the global box office, despite more than a few bumps. Films such as David Fincher's "Alien 3" and Scott's own "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" divided audiences with their strange methodology. In contrast, the "Alien vs Predator" films never amounted to more than cynical cash grabs. These sequels/prequels also retconned important lore or added new details to the Xenomorph that do not jibe with previously established material, leaving fans scrambling to make sense of the "Alien" timeline. Some of their theories are perfectly acceptable,...

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 episode 4.
Rising from the ashes of X-Men: The Animated Series like a Dark Phoenix, X-Men ‘97 has done a stellar job of bringing fan-favorites like Scott, Jean, and Wolverine back into the fray. While Marvel Studios’ producer Brad Winderbaum has revealed that production is already underway for seasons 2 and 3, some sneaky hints suggest that the lineup of this colorful cartoon caper could soon look a little different.
The Original X-Men
X-Men ‘97 has largely stuck with the series staples of X-Men: The Animated Series, albeit with the additions of Morph and Bishop while swapping out Professor Xavier for a reformed Magneto. Several Easter eggs have referenced both old and new teams, with the season premiere reminding us the current roster is far from the original lineup of Charles Xavier’s Gifted Youngsters.
A nostalgic picture of the “original” team is on display at the school.

Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men, X-Men ’97 is an animated television series created by Beau DeMayo. Journey becomes introspective for key X-Men members, as this week’s latest episode of X-Men’97 focuses on two separate adventures with distinctive tone and treatment, like an old-school comics double bonanza issue. On the one hand, the youngest member of the team, Jubilee, gets a reality check in the form of getting taken inside Marvel’s gameverse for a trip down memory lane, and on the other hand, Ororo is up for some nasty revelations regarding her loss of power.
Previously, members of X-Men had rescued teenage mutant Roberto De Costa from the clutches of mutant hate group Friends of Humanity, and he eventually befriended Jubilee. While saving Magneto, the new leader of the team, as decreed by the last will of the late Professor X, from the assassination attempt of X-Cutioner during his hearing at the Un, Ororo was shot by a permanent power-dampening projectile. Losing her powers, a...

X-Men ’97 turned in another episode of the season, revealing to audiences that the Jean Grey who has a child with Scott Summers is not Jean Grey at all. As Scott struggles to cope with the revelation, with Jean in a comma, X-Men ’97 begins adapting one of the most gripping X-Men stories…and wraps it up with a neat bow in one episode.
Jean Grey in X-Men ’97
From Jean Grey’s return to the introduction of the Goblin Queen, it was almost as if the show had too many things lined up for the episode, but did not give any of them the time to breathe. While the Goblin Queen saga had a lot of juicy details, it seems the show crossed over a lot of the drama in an effort to adapt the entire story in one episode, much to the detriment of the narrative.
