Mark your calendar for June 20, 2025 as that’s when the next installment in Danny Boyle’s 28 franchise hits theaters, 28 Years Later.
Boyle returns to direct off a screenplay by Alex Garland. Boyle and Garland are also producing, as is original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice. Bernie Bellew is also producing. Cillian Murphy is also returning as an executive producer.
As Deadline reported, the pic is a sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later and stars Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes also star in the pic, which is part of a planned trilogy.
Sequel’s storyline is under wraps. The pic grossed more than $82 million at the global B.

Ozark actor Julia Garner has reportedly signed a deal to play Silver Surfer in Matt Shakman’s take on Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
For a long time, there were lots of questions about which four actors would be lined up to fill the iconic blue onesies worn by the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s family of superheroes due to make their MCU debut next summer. Matt Shakman, the mind behind Marvel Studios’ WandaVision is directing the project, which might just relaunch the MCU as ‘must watch’ moviegoing following two or three years where over-saturation and questionable levels of quality control have seen the films and TV shows dip in popularity.
Back in February that casting would be confirmed and much like the studio’s choice of director, there was a feeling of real promise regarding the actors that had been selected to embody one of Marvel’s most iconic set of characters.

In a world saturated with countless streaming options, it is not uncommon for ‘great’ shows to slip through the cracks. And Tokyo Vice is a perfect example of this phenomenon.
About two years have gone by since the premiere of Michael Mann’s (two-time Primetime Emmy winner) crime-drama series, Tokyo Vice, which introduced us to yet another lonely yet determinant male character. Let us first praise a television show that actually knows its place. HBO Max’s crime series raises the bar for audacity by naming the show after its ‘real location’.
Created by J. T. Rogers, this series effortlessly raises the bar, and Tokyo gains the upper hand. The drama coexists with a celebration of all things surrounding Tokyo, from the vividly lit side alleys to the spacious, vibrant karaoke bars in the 17 episodes, especially the first one directed by Mann.

Monday Am: Turns out that high holy day of NFL yesterday which resulted in the Chiefs and the 49ers heading to the Super Bowl did pull guys away from Amazon MGM’s The Beekeeper. While the Jason Statham Miramax title did win Saturday over Paramount’s Mean Girls, $3.4M to $3.27M, Sunday belonged to the Plastics which saw the teen musical movie pull ahead with a third weekend of $6.9M to Beekeeper‘s $6.7M.

The news comes today in the wake of the Emmy-nominated actor being found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence trial by a six-person NYC jury.
A studio rep confirmed the news about their decision to not move forward with Majors in the MCU.
Majors played megavillain He Who Remains aka Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phases 4 through 6. Hollywood is leaving milk and cookies out for Olivia Wilde this holiday season with news that she’s striking a deal with LuckyChap to direct Naughty, a comedy described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole. Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden wrote the script with Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, producing through LuckyChap.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Naughty follows Mallory, whose only hope of securing custody of her son from her gaslighting trashbag ex is to find Santa Claus in the North Pole and convince him to testify in her divorce hearing.
In case you forgot, LuckyChap produced Barbie, which earned $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Combine Barbie‘s success level with Wilde’s in-demand status as a filmmaker, and you’ve got a recipe for making money fall in a blizzard-like fashion.
Wilde’s next film is the biographical sports drama Perfect, starring McKenna Grace and Thomasin McKenzie.

At the end of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, director-producer Chad Stahelski and producer Erica Lee appeared to be putting the franchise to rest, as John Wick (Keanu Reeves) took a bullet to the gut in a duel, seemingly succumbing to his injuries.
That said, is there any way the hero of this franchise could be resurrected, as has been done with action heroes of films like ‘Extraction’?
“You never know,” Stahelski teased Saturday at Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles event. “Keanu’s hard to kill.”
“Never say never,” added Lee, in a conversation moderated by Justin Kroll, also featuring supervising sound editor Mark Stoeckinger, reports Deadline.
In all seriousness, though, Stahelski said, the pair are “very proud” of how they “ended” the film and franchise, and “feel good” about where they left things. “But look, I love working with Keanu. We love the character, it’s cool,” the filmmaker reflected.

The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin is opening up about the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot he had been developing at Disney which he initially thought the studio would pass on due to it being “too weird.”
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did!” Mazin told the LA Times.
Mazin told the publication he had been working on the script prior to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes alongside one of the original film’s writers Ted Elliot. However, due to the strikes, the development of the reboot has been put on hold.
“[Elliot] wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around,” Mazin added.

Among those likely to make the trip are Nicolas Cage for A24’s Dream Scenario, which we gather is close to finalising an interim agreement, and Jessica Chastain for Michel Franco’s Memory, which also quietly secured an Ia. Update: "Superman: Legacy" director James Gunn has responded to questions about this casting report on Twitter, saying: "For all of you asking, I would never comment on who is or isn't auditioning for a role. That's the actor's business only." While he therefore wouldn't confirm or deny that any of the following actors are in contention, he did reveal that "only one person has been Cast in 'Superman: Legacy,' and it isn't any of the regular players in the Superman world."

Casting is apparently underway for James Gunn's upcoming "Superman: Legacy," according to The Hollywood Reporter, which shared a short list of actors whose names are at varying degrees of being in the mix for major roles.

Exclusive: Doctor Sleep filmmaker Mike Flanagan has pitched a feature version of Clayface over at the studio several sources tell Deadline, however, no word on greenlight yet — and the studio has not said ‘No’. There are no offers and no deals. Though typically a DC supervillain, in the Flanagan pic, should it move forward, he wouldn’t be a bad guy (so we hear).
Word is that Flanagan and his Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy had a meeting with DC Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Flangan, we understand, wasn’t pitching the character to be part of Matt Reeves’ DC elseworld, The Batman 2 set for an Oct. 3, 2025 release date.
That said, other sources are telling us that scripts are constantly changing, and that Clayface is a big addition to Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2. Let’s wait until the dust settles here and something moves forward. It remains to be...

As Justin Kroll first reported, Mescal isn’t replacing Russell Crowe’s Maximus from the first film, who died. He’s playing Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), who now is a grown man as the story takes place years after the first film ended. Lucius also was the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius, who murdered his father seized the throne. Exclusive: In her first major foray into television, Scarlett Johansson is set to star in and executive produce Just Cause, a thriller limited series based on John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel. In a very competitive situation, the project, from writer Christy Hall, Johansson’s These Pictures banner and Warner Bros. Both directors Deadline were in Morocco for El Arbi’s wedding when they first learned about Batgirl‘s bad news.
Again a big upset here to all those involved in making this movie.

Three years after Disney’s buy-out, major characters remain nowhere to be seen. Does Multiverse of Madness hold the clue?
Bad news this week for those fans hoping to see John Krasinski confirmed as the new Reed Richards, after his sterling cameo as Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Deadline’s Justin Kroll reports that Marvel is no closer to settling on a director for its Fantastic Four reboot, which means it could be a while until casting news rolls in. According to the Hollywood trade journalist, studio supremo Kevin Feige wants to find a film-maker with the clout and kudos to oversee the project without too much interference from Marvel, just as Sam Raimi did with Madness.
Krasinski boasts the right combination of brawn and brain to make for an excellent Richards, who in the comics is not only the stretchiest superhero around but also the smartest.

For better or for worse, MCU boss Kevin Feige has a reputation for being very involved in the production of Marvel films. Feige’s tendency to oversee the plots of MCU installments and their aesthetic has allowed the franchise to achieve pop culture domination and build a cohesive cinematic universe, but it has also led to some sameness across films. Although directors such as James Gunn, Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, and Sam Raimi have been able to inject some individual personality into the films, movies such as Spider-Man: No Way Home feel to some as if they were directed by a committee.
But that might change with the Fantastic Four. Ever since No Way Home director Jon Watts stepped down from the project to work on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Feige has been hunting for a replacement. No news has been yet released regarding who will take on this highly anticipated Marvel picture,...

Production designer Stefan Dechant and costume designer Mary Zophres said director Joel Coen instructed them to make his film The Tragedy of Macbeth more abstract than a literal adaptation. Zophres and Dechant spoke with Deadline’s Justin Kroll at The Contenders Film: Los Angeles event Sunday.
“One of the first things he said was he didn’t want to deny the original text was for a theatrical experience,” Dechant said. “He wanted an abstraction right away.”
Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand play Lord and Lady Macbeth. Their castle reflects Coen’s mandate for abstraction.
“Joel was always saying, ‘It’s the idea of a castle — it’s not really a castle,’” Dechant said. “Even designing the backings, even though they were digitally printed, we painted them as such that they felt like hand-painted backings.”

As with his past features Beginners and 20th Century Women, writer-director Mike Mills focused his latest effort, C’mon C’mon, on family—this time honing in not on his relationship with his father or mother, but instead on that between an adult and a child.
“The story, the heart of it came from me having a kid, and living with my kid, and experiencing the world with them,” Mills said Sunday during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles even, “and having someone need you so fully. It’s so intimate, being a parent.”
In the A24 pic, Joaquin Phoenix plays Johnny, a radio journalist whose latest project has him interviewing children across the U.S. about the state of affairs in the world. Johnny forges a tenuous but transformational relationship with his 8-year-old nephew Jesse (Woody Norman)—the son of his sister Viv (Gaby Hoffmann)—when he winds up...

You no longer have to rely on pure imagination. Timothée Chalamet has posted a first look at his Willy Wonka interpretation for the forthcoming film on the future chocolate factory proprietor.
Chalamet has 13.6 million followers on Instagram. The new film, titled Wonka, is focused on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures before he created the chocolate factory. Chalamet is expected to showcase his singing and dancing skills for the first time in the prequel.
Paul King will direct from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire executive producing.
This marks the third time WB has taken on the Wonka story, with the previous versions being adaptations of Roald Dahl’s classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
