Some people’s lives are best told truthfully, others more loosely.
In one corner, we have Rocky, the iconic Best Picture-winning boxing movie starring Sylvester Stallone as the made-up Rocky Balboa. In the other corner, we have Chuck, an upcoming biopic starring Liev Schreiber as real-life boxer Chuck Wepner. The latter primarily depicts the 1975 bout between Wepner and Muhammad Ali, which inspired Stallone to write the script for Rocky. He’s since tried to downplay the connection, especially after being sued by Wepner, but it’s close enough to being a film a clef as any.
Chuck received mostly positive reviews when it played the big film festivals last fall, but it’s unlikely to become the phenomenon, let alone Oscar darling, that Rocky was. Its legacy surely won’t be as lasting, in part because true biopics don’t tend to get sequels. There are a lot of benefits to fictionalized accounts of real events and...

Ever wondered what it would be like to visit an La porn theatre in the early 1970′s? Well, those lovely folks over at Vinegar Syndrome may have the release just for you. I’d usually set the scene and build up the excitement (I do actually do that right?), but we have over 12 hours of smut to get through so let’s get on with it!
Disc 1: 7 Pm – 11 Pm
Girl Acrobatics (19??, dir: unknown)
Our uninterrupted sleazefest starts off a little bit tame actually (as it is a purely simulated scene) and sees a too cool for school yuppie returning home to his wife after being away for a couple of days. Naturally, he wants a welcome home present and it’s not until he’s in that classic handstand position with his tiny pecker exposed in all its limp glory that he gets it. Just like his member, this segment is short and sweet.

Among our most popular articles are those pertaining to video availability of vintage erotica (You old perverts!). Vinegar Syndrome, which has rescued countless grindhouse titles from the 1960s-1980s, has just released one of their most ambitious titles yet, "All Night at the Po-No", consisting of three DVDs packed with features and shorts that all played at the Po-No Theatre in L.A during the 1970s. Don't be immediately dismissive of all of these films, as some do show talent in the construction of reasonably compelling story lines. Surprisingly, when given an actual script to follow, some of the performers also show skill in terms of acting ability, so you can at least assure your significant other that you are watching these only for their artistic merits.
Here is the official press release:

Stars: Jeanne Silver, Joey Silvera, Amber Hunt, China Leigh, Tori Blue, Paul Thomas, Sandy Pinney | Directed by Alex deRenzy
Our film gets off to a great start with the titular Jeanne Silver (Waterpower) letting us know that she is handicapped and horny, as well as boasting about having a bigger member than the legendary John Holmes. After such an introduction, we’re thrown right in to action with Jeanne enjoying a light hearted threesome with her friends Joey (Joey Silvera, Expectations) and Amber (Amber Hunt, Cry For Cindy). During this little frolic, we see Jeanne’s handicap for the first time. Of course, she utilises it! After that, Jeanne tells us about the almost unlimited sexual opportunities high school has to offer (I obviously went to the wrong school!) and shares her exploits with a boy from her art class who just so happens to be gay. He may not be in to girls,...

The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova
(1977, dir: Carlos Tobalina)
John Holmes (Eruption) stars as John, a man who has recently inherited and sold off the estate of his late great grandfather. Looking for something of a keepsake, he visits the antique dealer (Tory Jeffery, The Autobiography of a Flea) and is given a bottle of cologne found in a desk. The cologne belongs to great Casanova and was used to scent his love letters. He applies some to his clothes and this leads to the first of many sexual encounters, this time being with the cleaner of the motel he is staying at. Once getting dirty with cleaner, he visits his family while he’s in town. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your preference) the effect of the cologne rubs off on them, leading John to literally rub off on them. Yes, even his underage cousins fall foul to magic of this scent.

Things will go bump in the night – and probably the daytime, too – in Sky Living’s The Enfield Haunting. The three-parter, debuting on the channel in early May, dramatises the events of 1977 that, if you’ll forgive us for this, put the “eeeee!” into EN3. Here’s a new trailer to give you a better idea of the dark forces at work. And those dark forces aren’t limited to the seemingly supernatural phenomena terrifying the Hodgson family, Anyone allergic to beige, corduroy or John Holmes facial hair, might want to raincheck this. The faithful ‘70s milieu has been painstakingly recreated in a series that juxtaposes the dark, supernatural goings-on of Green Street with the sheer, thumping mundanity of north London in the year of strikes, inflation and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Timothy Spall and Matthew Macfadyen play the investigating agents whose very presence in the house may stir...

Sometimes the service can be quite lousy, but every now and then they go above and beyond to deliver customer satisfaction. Thankfully, John over at Country Girl Pizza does exactly just that. John, played by John Holmes (Eruption, Johnny Wadd) not only provides you with inches of pleasure (the puns in the film are worse), but also uses his pizza parlour as a front for his escort service. Yep, it’s service with a smile and happy ending if you’re willing to tip! His hot pant and rollerblading clad staff include Gina, Shakey, Celeste and bubbly newcomer Ann Chovy (get it?) played by...

“A shipwrecked World War II sailor comes to the rescue of two American nurses held in the clutches of a twisted Nazi officer and his three female assistants on a deserted South Pacific island.”
Once again, we find ourselves looking at a film that could be labeled as a piece of Nazisploitation, Prisoner of Paradise. This time around we have the likes of Seka, John Holmes and Bob Chinn, so I’m sure your interest is peaked just as much as mine. It’s John Holmes against the Nazis. How this DVD made it through German customs is beyond me. Let’s stop babbling and enjoy another episode of Mondo Squallido.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Shirley Temple, and Oscar movies: Library of Congress’ March 2014 screenings (photo: Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote in ‘Capote’) Tributes to the recently deceased Shirley Temple and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and several Academy Award-nominated and -winning films are among the March 2014 screenings at the Library of Congress’ Packard Campus Theater and, in collaboration with the Library’s National Audio-Visual Conservation Center, The State Theatre, both located in Culpeper, Virginia. The 1934 sentimental comedy-drama Little Miss Marker (March 6, Packard) is the movie that turned six-year-old Shirley Temple into a major film star. Temple would become the biggest domestic box-office draw of the mid-1930s, and, Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, Sonja Henie, Don Ameche, Loretta Young, and Madeleine Carroll notwithstanding, would remain 20th Century Fox’s top star until later in the decade. As the film Behind the Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, shows, Scott Thorson lived a life of wild excess with Liberace. Since the entertainer's death, Thorson's existence has been just as strange
This piece originally appeared in the New York Times
Soon after moving into Liberace's gaudy Las Vegas mansion in 1977, Scott Thorson, then a teenage hunk in the foster care system, learned that the jewel-smitten showman could love just as extravagantly as he decorated. Touring the premises before their relationship began, Liberace pointed out some decorative highlights, which included 17 pianos, a casino, a quarry's worth of marble and a canopied bed with an ermine spread. On the ceiling was a reproduction of the Sistine Chapel with Liberace's face painted among the cherubs.
When the pair became a couple, Liberace, who was 40 years older, was just as excessive. He couldn't bear to let Thorson out of his sight.

Ebert's scripts: 'sexploitation' cult fare As found on the IMDb, Roger Ebert wrote scripts for a total of three movies, "sexploitation" fare directed by maverick independent filmmaker Russ Meyer. The first of those was Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, which follows three young (and good-looking) women who find sex (lesbian and straight), drugs (of various sorts), and unhappiness in Hollywood. Distributed by the then-daring 20th Century Fox (Fox also released Raquel Welch and Mae West's Myra Breckinridge that same year), Beyond takes Jacqueline Susann's trashy bestseller Valley of the Dolls and its 1967 Mark Robson-directed filmization to an even higher degree of tacky campiness. Among the movie's cast members were Dolly Read, Cynthia Myers, Marcia McBroom (all three seductive beauties are pictured above), John Lazar, and frequent presence on the Academy Awards red carpet, Edy Williams. The second Roger & Russ collaboration was Up!, a movie whose tagline...

Direct influences have always factored heavily in Paul Thomas Anderson's work: the Robert Altman tag has dogged him until recently, while Upton Sinclair's “Oil!” and “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” provided the main groundwork for “There Will Be Blood.” Before that 2007 film though, the director's 1997 “Boogie Nights” drew on a documentary about porn star John Holmes, which -- thanks to some extensive legwork -- has found its way back online for a second viewing. First appearing in excerpts on the Criterion “Boogie Nights” Laserdisc almost 15 years ago, the documentary “Exhausted: John C. Holmes, The Real Story” provided PTA's first and lasting impression to the strange combination of sadness, sex, and wealth in the '70s porn scene. On the Laserdisc, Anderson recorded a commentary for the documentary, calling it “a major influence for 'Boogie Nights,' “ and then proceeded to point out the various period and character details...

Each Wednesday, I find myself tweeting the sentence, "Tonight's #Svu explores every parent's worst nightmare." I've gotta hand it to the writers: it really is a skill, coming up with something more disturbing every week. The nightmare on tonight's episode, "Vanity's Bonfire," posed questions ranging from deep to deeply titillating. What will a mother do to protect her child -- even if the child is a killer? What will a father do to prevent his mistress from leaking their sex tapes? And how much of a bonus does NYPD have to pay the detective tasked with photographing dad's erect penis?
Recap: A young couple watches their two-year-old daughter, Tessa, frolic in a Brooklyn playground. While Dad is texting, someone takes Tessa! The panicked parents run through the playground screaming her name, in a scene that easily makes the list of Every Mother's Top 10 Worst Nightmares.
Our detectives question the requisite lurking sex offender,...

Innocence of Muslims / 'Desert Warrior' director Alan Roberts best-known for '70s soft-core porn The polemical anti-Islam "film" (actually, a cheap, grade Z amateur video), now has not only a producer, but also a director. The "Israeli entrepreneur Sam Bacile" has been exposed as the Egyptian Coptic Christian Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who allegedly misled all (or most) involved in the production. And Gawker has reported that Alan Roberts aka Robert Brownell, the director of a handful of softcore porn movies in the '70s and early '80s, helmed "Desert Warrior," a cheesy Arabian adventure that was to become -- following some sloppy overdubbing -- Innocence of Muslims. Besides the now infamous Islamophobic YouTube sensation, which has been blamed for riots in several Muslim countries from Tunisia to Pakistan, Alan Roberts' movie credits include several now long forgotten titles. (Please scroll down for more details.) Alan Roberts also produced several little-known movies,...

A version of this story originally appeared in the Rambling Reporter column of the August 10 issue of The Hollywood Reporter. First John Waters cast Traci Lords in Cry-Baby. Then Steven Soderbergh selected Sasha Grey to star in The Girlfriend Experience. Now writer-turned-director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) has given the lead role in his currently filming micro-budget feature The Canyons, about a clique of rich young L.A. wastrels, to porn star James Deen — the latter-day John Holmes of 2012 with the boy-next-door good looks. On Tuesday afternoon, the victims of the mass Friday shooting in Aurora, Colorado received an incredible surprise when ‘Batman’ himself, Christian Bale, paid a visit to the Aurora hospital where they were confined. According to Bill Voloch, interim president of Medical Center of Aurora, the Academy Award winner, while accompanied by his wife, spent two and a half hours at the hospital. They met with seven of the victims, talked to visitors and staff of the hospital and even posed for pictures.
After the hospital visit, Bale and his wife visited the memorial set up across the street from the Century 16 movie theatre.
The most surprising part about this was that Bale made the trip entirely unannounced and on his own accord, with no representation from Warner Bros. studio, no press or photographers. In fact, the only way the story got out was when people began updating their Facebook and...

So let me guess?
You really want to come to Mumbrella360, but you’ve got to justify the time and cost to your boss?
Good news! I think I can help.
Just use the parts of this pro forma letter that apply to you in a memo to your boss, and Bob’s your uncle.
Hi (Insert boss’s name),
As you probably already know, I really want to attend this year’s Mumbrella360, which is only a fortnight away now.
Not only will I learn a lot, but it’s a great chance to network with some key contacts and get some perspective on what our peers are up to. I think it may even make me a better person.
The ticket price may seem a bit hefty at first glance, but it’s significantly less than similar conferences, and the huge number of sessions to choose from over...

Sure, Val Kilmer says, some of his recent movie roles were more for the paycheck than the challenge. But now he hopes to jolt his career back to life with a one-man show about Mark Twain, "Citizen Twain." Comebacks are never easy - but they're never impossible, either. Kilmer established himself as one of the best character actors of his generation with portrayals of Doors frontman Jim Morrison, legendary gunslinger Doc Holliday, and porn star John Holmes. But over the last five years, Kilmer admits, he neglected his acting career and focused instead on financing an expansion of his New Mexico ranch. "I was just paying rent," he recently told The Huffington Post. "I decided I'm going to sacrifice the integrity of my career for the integrity of this land for my kids. . . And now I'm back."Enter Mark Twain. "Citizen Twain," which Kilmer wrote and directed, plays in...

Chicago – Two performers who made their marks during the latter days of the 1970s, and into the ‘80s are singer/actor Rex Smith and adult film star Seka. Even though they took different roads in their show business journey, they both were notable around the same time.
Rex Smith and Seka appeared at the Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show (now called “The Hollywood Show”) in 2011, and HollywoodChicago.com sent photographer Joe Arce to take some Exclusive Photos, and they both sat down for interviews about their different but era-intersecting resumes.

Howdy, partner! While last night’s Bernie premiere wasn’t the first time Matthew McConaughey has shown off his new ‘stache, his decision to top off his ensemble with a cowboy hat certainly brings out the Marlboro Man vibe—or the John Holmes vibe depending on your cultural reference point. Do you dig the look, or would you rather he bring back the smooth-faced Surfer, Dude aesthetic we’ve seen for years? Check out the gallery below for shots of mustachioed Mateo with wife Camila Alves and co-stars Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine. You have to assume movie is relatively serious if Jack isn’t pulling his Kung Fu Panda craziness on the carpet.

In honor of The Comedy Awards, airing April 10 on Comedy Central, NextMovie is unveiling a series of features on Hollywood's funniest films and folks.
Between YouTube, Upright Citizens Brigade, and half the cast of "Freaks And Geeks" creating world-famous superstars, there is a literal glut of talent coming through the comedy pipelines, which as metaphorical as they are could probably use some kind of filtration system.

20. Michael Cera

There are so many dignified things that I could do with the power of invisibility. Peace treaties could be forged and nuclear weapons could be dismantled, but where is the fun in that? The inner Benny Hill in me would rather look up girls skirts and hang out in a women’s locker room all day than try to be a philanthropist. The ladies might not want to hear that, but in some ways I am still a knuckledragger and I would not be able to resist that temptation.
There is a film that is like one of my wet dreams come true. A masturbatory classic of John Holmes-sized proportions that would make Mr. Skin blush. Allen Plone is the director of the 1988 slasher Night Screams featuring Ron Thomas of The Karate Kid fame and Janette Coldwell. Night Screams was notorious for having footage of vintage porn featuring Seka and John Holmes spliced into the proceedings. There was also footage of the Herb Freed slasher Graduation Day that featured Linnea Quigley and Christopher George spliced into Night Screams. Still, flaws and all, Night Screams was a corny good time that featured a body count of over 20 on screen death sequences making that one of the highest of any slasher to come out around that period. Night Screams deals with teenagers holding a party after the big football party to celebrate, but unbeknowest to them some escaped psycho killers are lurking in the basement possibly dispatching all the party goers. Director Allen Plone reminisced with me on what it was like making this movie. Here is what he had to say.

A plethora of wimpy Jason Voorhees and Michael Meyers wannabes has submerged the slasher sub-genre in a swampy, leech-infested lake leaving me with no other choice but to accept the inevitable: my once immortal horror heroes have sadly been plagued with mortality by much tamer modern day manifestations of the macabre. Independent writer/director and owner & founder of production company Kerosene Films, Kerry Beyer takes a playful stab at re-inventing and ultimately redefining some of the greatest monumental machete-wielding maniacs ever to slash their ways through horror history.

The industry brings in $13 billion a year in the United States alone. No, we aren’t talking about the traditional film industry. We’re talking about porn. Gosling's journalistic interests always centred around ordinary people, but he always possessed a maverick courage
Ray Gosling describes himself as "a sort of journalist – writer – maker of scores and scores of radio documentaries and TV films over the years", but in his seven decades he has been a great deal more than that. To those in their 40s and above, Gosling's name and musical, faintly lugubrious east Midland tones will be familiar, but to a younger generation, at least outside his local area, he is largely unknown, or an old-fashioned broadcaster whose films and radio documentaries covering what he called "soft news about caravans, allotments, sheds" belong to another era of homespun, postwar British eccentricity.
