Jonnie Davis, the president of ABC Signature, has stepped down from his position. After leading the studio since 2019, Davis will be leaving to figure out his “next creative challenge.”
During his time with the production studio, Davis worked on shows such as ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” FX’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble” and Hulu’s “This Fool.” A replacement for Davis will be chosen at a later date.
Eric Schrier, the president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, told his team on Friday.
“While news like this is never easy, I’m very confident in the leadership team we have in place, and I’m excited to work with them more closely until next steps are determined,” Schrier wrote. He also referred to Davis as an “incredibly valued colleague” and a “fantastic creative partner.”

Jonnie Davis is leaving ABC Signature.
Davis has been President of the Disney-owned studio since 2019.
He said it has been a “privilege” to work on shows such as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, FX’s Fleishman Is In Trouble and Hulu’s This Fool.
The move, however, is not a precursor to merging ABC Signature and 20th Television and, despite a multitude of rumors, they will continue to operate as two separate divisions. The company is currently searching for a replacement for Davis.
Davis’ departure is a surprise given how close he has been to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden.
When he moved from 20th Television to ABC Signature, he was able to lure a handful of big-name talents across with him include Drew Goddard and Octavia Spencer.
Davis took over the role of President of ABC Studios in July 2019, four months after Disney’s $71.3B of key Fox assets and...

The announcement was made by Davis and Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, in separate notes to the studio’s staff.
“I’m forever grateful to Dana Walden and Eric Schrier for the wonderful opportunity to lead this world-class studio,” Davis wrote. “And while I will, of course, miss this outstanding team, after doing this job for over 20 years, I’m looking forward to figuring out my next creative challenge.”
No immediate replacement for Davis is being named at this time. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, there are no plans to merge ABC Signature with 20th Television and they will continue to operate as separate entities.

The initial exuberance and relief following Bob Iger’s return as Disney CEO has been replaced by anxiety as speculation about a pending corporate restructuring is intensifying — and with it, rumors about the layoffs that are likely to follow.
Rumblings of a new org-chart unveiling are growing louder amid mounting pressure on the company (including from activist investor Nelson Peltz) to stage a rebound with Iger back at the controls. Details on the restructuring moves, which could potentially include some sort of consolidation within the company’s marketing operations as well as at Disney Television Studios, are likely to emerge soon and could coincide with the company’s next quarterly earnings report February 8, sources tell Deadline.
And then there is the future of the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution executive ranks.

Exclusive: Zahir McGhee has signed with CAA for representation. Additionally, the Queens creator/executive producer has extended his existing overall deal with ABC Signature for an additional two years.
“Zahir is an undeniable creative force who attracts spectacular talent and really wants to win,” ABC Signature President Jonnie Davis said. “We’re excited to continue our collaboration and remain incredibly invested in his success.”
McGhee is a homegrown ABC Studios/ABC Signature talent who has been in an overall deal at the studio for the past four years. Self-professed hip-hop head and Allen Iverson fanatic, McGhee moved from the Philadelphia area to Los Angeles in 2007 to attend the University of Southern California where he received an M.F.A. in Writing for Screen & Television. In the ever-changing TV landscape, one thing remains key for lasting scripted shows: powerful storytelling. And it’s nearly impossible to discuss that without highlighting “Grey’s Anatomy” — the longest-running primetime medical drama in history.
This month, the series created by Shonda Rhimes reaches a giant landmark. On May 26, the procedural will air its 400th episode, which also happens to be its Season 18 finale.
Since its March 2005 debut, “Grey’s Anatomy” has been a watercooler show — and may be one of the last standing, especially in network TV.
“Honestly, I can’t quite get my head around it,” says Krista Vernoff, who stepped in for Rhimes as showrunner in 2017. “I took a break in the middle of the run of the show. I wasn’t here seasons 8 through 13. I look around at the folks who have been here straight through for 400 episodes and my mind is just blown. We are proud. We...

Bruce Miller has renewed his multiyear overall deal with Disney.

The Handmaid’s Tale creator, executive producer and showrunner Bruce Miller has signed a big new overall development deal with ABC Signature and Hulu.
Under the rich pact, which I hear is for at least three years, Miller will continue at the helm of Hulu’s Emmy-winning original drama series The Handmaid’s Tale, which is currently in pre-production on Season 5. In addition, he will develop projects for Disney siblings ABC Signature and Hulu — some of which he will create and write, and others he will supervise — through his company White Oak Pictures.
Priscilla Porianda, who was previously head of development for White Oak Pictures, has been elevated to President, and Bryant Clements has joined the company as Creative Executive.
“Bruce has created one of the most iconic series in all of television in The Handmaid’s Tale. His work has had worldwide influence and we’re thrilled and honored to be working with him at ABC Signature.

Wearing his network hat on Tuesday, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich made news by revealing that the 2022 Oscars would include a host for the first time in three years. A day later, switching to his streaming cap, Erwich was back on the phone with Variety, touting Hulu’s haul of SAG Awards nominations.
Key among Hulu’s SAG nods is the hit comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.
Cue lightbulb flashing. Wouldn’t those stars be the perfect choice for Oscar hosts, and they’re sitting right there, in Disney Synergy Land, for all to see? Martin, Short and Gomez could show off their SAG Award-nominated chemistry to the Oscar stage, bringing laughs, music and appeal to a wide range of demographics. It’s almost too good to be true.
And yes, Erwich likes the idea. Martin has hosted the Oscars three times,...

Epix has renewed the Forest Whitaker-led Godfather of Harlem for a 10-episode third season.
The critically acclaimed drama from ABC Signature is scheduled to begin production on Season 3 in New York this summer.
The renewal follows a strong second season, Epix’s best-performing season of all time, according to the network. The series broke records for any single title streams in a single day across Epix’s digital platforms, and the season two finale was the network’s best performing finale episode to date, according to Epix.
Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem tells a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from eleven years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles.
Season 3 will find Bumpy Johnson continuing to battle for control of Harlem, with other aspirants to the throne, namely the Cuban Mafia from neighboring Spanish Harlem.

Grey's Anatomy remains a powerhouse for ABC in the ratings, but the beloved series could be reaching its conclusion.
The series is entering its 18th (!!!) season next month, and naturally, many things have been left up in the air.
A renewal for Season 18 wasn't even a sure thing due to ongoing talks between Ellen Pompeo and the network about whether she would return.
Below, we've rounded up everything we know about Grey's Anatomy Season 18.
Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Could be the Final Season
It's sad, but it's true. The series is reaching its end sooner rather than later.
Pompeo has been vocal about the show potentially ending at any point in recent years, so the future is not confirmed until it nabs renewals these days.
From a rating standpoint, the show could thrive for several years yet. It makes a lot of money for Disney, both domestically and internationally.
