Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, the movie lost that shortly after Marvel Studios decided to take the focus off Kang the Conqueror (a reaction to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's mixed reviews and Jonathan Majors' firing).
While there have been some pretty reliable Doctor Doom rumours, a new actor is expected to play a Kang Variant who serves as the Multiverse Saga's main threat. Meanwhile, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is overhauling Avengers 5's script after Jeff Loveness first took a crack at it.
He was supposedly fired from the project shortly after the Ant-Man threequel flopped, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton left the movie to focus on Wonder Man and the Shang-Chi sequel.
Scooper @MyTimeToShineH has shared an update on Avengers 5 today, claiming that pre-production begins next month.

Avengers 5 Gets A Rumored Production Update; Story Said To Be "Grounded" Despite Multiverse Elements
Marvel Studios' next big MCU event will be Avengers 5 (FKA Avengers: The Kang Dynasty), and we may now have a pretty good idea of when production is scheduled to get underway.
A previous report claimed that filming was set to begin this December, but according to insider Daniel Richtman, cameras won't actually start rolling until January 2025 in the UK.
Despite Jonathan Majors' recent firing, Kang is still expected to appear, although we can't see the character playing nearly as big a role in the story. As we know, Loki writer Michael Waldron was hired to pen a new draft of the script, but reports indicate that the events of Loki season 2 are still going to inform the main plotline, which means Kang would likely remain on as a supporting character (at the very least).
We got word that Marvel/Disney had severed ties with Majors almost immediately after the...

If the words “Taylor Swift” and “MCU” sound like an unlikely pairing, you’re not alone. Yet, rumors of Swift’s involvement have been circulating for months, particularly suggesting a cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ as Dazzler. These rumors gained such traction that both Reynolds and director Shawn Levy addressed them on multiple occasions.
As the movie inches closer to release, the rumors have only intensified. However, a recent shift in online chatter suggests that Swift will indeed join the MCU, but not as Dazzler. Instead, she’s rumored to star in her own standalone show as Blonde Phantom.
This information comes from Daniel Richtman, a well-known industry insider and scooper. Richtman suggests that the actress has already held meetings with executives to discuss the details, positioning her as one of the top contenders for the starring role in the show.

If you’re hearing Taylor Swift and MCU in the same sentence, you’re probably inclined to re-read that sentence again, but this is exactly what we’ve been reading about for the past several months as Swift is one of the rumored cameos to appear in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine. The singer should appear as Dazzler, and the rumors were so persistent that Reynolds and director Shawn Levy himself addressed them on several occasions.
Now that the movie is slowly moving toward its release, the rumors are louder than ever but recently, a different kind of chatter online appeared, Taylor Swift is indeed coming to the MCU but not as Dazzler, in her own standalone show as Blonde Phantom.

Scarlett Johansson, previously announced as the producer of a confidential Marvel project, marks her debut in this role. Following her lawsuit against Disney after the simultaneous release of ‘Black Widow’ in theaters and on Disney+ in July 2021, which was resolved two months later, Johansson’s portrayal of Natasha Romanoff has concluded. However, fans can anticipate her involvement in an upcoming MCU project she’ll produce alongside Kevin Feige.
Recent reports suggest that Scarlett Johansson is presently collaborating with Disney+ on a secretive venture. The clue emerged from Courtney Baker, a creative executive at Marvel Studios, who updated her LinkedIn profile, hinting at new developments or responsibilities within the company.
According to Giant Freaking Robot, the project under wraps is a live-action series centered on Blonde Phantom. It remains uncertain if Scarlett will portray Blonde Phantom or if her involvement will be purely behind-the-scenes. However, with the current Multiverse theme, her leading role seems plausible.

Scarlett Johansson was previously announced as the producer of the top-secret Marvel project, which should be the first project where the actor serves as the producer. When ‘Black Widow’ was released in July 2021 in theaters and on Disney+ simultaneously, Johansson filed a lawsuit against the company, which was settled two months later. Although we won’t see her in the role of Natasha Romanoff anymore, we will eventually watch the MCU project she will produce alongside Kevin Feige.

The development of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ has faced challenges, experiencing multiple delays due to poor test screenings and the SAG-AFTRA strike, leading to significant story revisions.
Details on the plot remain scarce, except for a brief clip shown at CinemaCon. Notably, the film is expected to feature Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, select members of the Serpent Society, and Red Hulk.
Talking about ‘The Leader,’ some time back, we shared a marketing concept of the character’s appearance, which left fans rather unimpressed. However, in a recent episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Tim Blake Nelson dropped a surprising revelation. He mentioned that The Leader will primarily rely on practical effects, aiming to minimize the use of CGI as much as possible.

Agatha remains one of Marvel Studios' most intriguing upcoming projects, particularly with it serving as a follow-up to 2021's critically acclaimed WandaVision.
Nexus Point News has today shared new intel on the show's characters, starting with Joe Locke's Billy. They believe the plan is to reveal his true identity as the teenage son of Wanda Maximoff later in the series, making it a huge moment for non-comic book readers.
Aubrey Plaza is Rio Vidal, one of Agatha's antagonists, while Patti LuPone is Lilia Calderu, Sasheer Zamata is Jennifer Kale, and Ali Ahn is Alice Wu.
Miles Guiterrez-Riley, meanwhile, is said to be playing Eddie, Billy's boyfriend. Likely to disappoint fans is the fact it doesn't sound like he has any connection to Teddy Altman, a.k.a. Hulking. Perhaps we'll meet him down the line; then again, it could be that Bruce Banner's son first introduced in She-Hulk...

X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo was let go from his position in the series after prematurely completing season 2 of the show. DeMayo’s firing occurred just a week before the show’s first season premiered on Disney+. DeMayo has been actively promoting the series, which has been receiving positive reviews all over. However, he may not be reinstated like James Gunn, who was fired for controversial tweets before the filming began for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo’s reinstatement is highly unlikely
Fans believe that the mysterious circumstances surrounding DeMayo’s firing meant that he was into something so bad that neither Disney nor the showrunner cared to reveal it. When Tatiana Maslany was announced to be starring as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, Marvel fans were excited about another talented actress playing a popular Marvel character. However, when the trailers and promotional material for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law were released, fans were concerned with the forced slapstick comedy and the show’s handling of the fourth-wall-breaking trait of the character.

The show ultimately was criticized by fans despite receiving good reviews from critics. Fans’ concerns came true and it is considered one of the worst entries in the MCU. Instead of owning up to the show’s failure, Maslany honed in on how the show itself predicted the criticism that was about to emerge.

Tatiana Maslany is reflecting on her decision to publicly call out Disney CEO Bob Iger during the actors strike in 2023.
The 38-year-old actress portrays Jen Walters aka She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having made her debut in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
When Bob said that unions’ demands during the strike weren’t “realistic,” Tatiana responded by slamming the executive.
“He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen, who make people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and him money,” she told THR at the time. “Having worked on a Disney show, I know where people fall through the cracks and where people are taken advantage of, and it’s outrageous the amount of wealth that is not shared with the people who actually make the show. That’s crew, cast, writers.”

Life has not been kind to Kevin Feige for the past few years. The Marvel supremo has had to face a lot of headaches ever since Avengers: Endgame, arguably the peak of the MCU, hit the theatres in 2019.
Since those days of glory, it’s been the same tale of woes over and over again – stories that have been unable to hit as hard as the ones in the Infinity Saga, and characters that have failed to resonate with the masses. But one fact that encapsulates how the MCU has failed to hit home is how even the older characters have failed to recreate the impact they were expected to.

On the heels of What If…? season one’s warm reception, Marvel Studios head of streaming Brad Winderbaum knew that now was the time to pursue his longtime dream of reviving the beloved Fox Kids show X-Men: The Animated Series. The series aired from 1992 to 1997, and Winderbaum, as executive producer, is on the verge of releasing X-Men ’97, which picks up right where the original series left off as the classic X-Men characters are forced to find a way forward without the leadership of Professor Charles Xavier.

There have been rumors about a solo Hulk project being in the works in the MCU, specifically World War Hulk, which makes sense given the number of Hulk allies and antagonists that have begun populating the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Liv Tyler will be returning to the MCU as Betty Ross. Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross will now be played by Harrison Ford. The Leader, one of the Hulk’s most notorious villains, is set to make his debut in the MCU as well. The Abomination still roams free (albeit reformed).

The Original Avengers assembled to fight Loki’s invasion of New York and became the most iconic team of the MCU. The team was balanced, had some precedent in the comics, and served as the premiere IP for the franchise for at least a decade. However, the team found itself disassembled in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, with only three members still active, but not united.
Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Hulk in The Avengers (2012)
Essentially speaking, since Avengers: Endgame, there has been no concrete team of heroes to carry the mantle of the group. While a host of heroes have been introduced in films and streaming series, none of them have united as a team, leaving the fate of a major part of the franchise up in the air. Actor Mark Ruffalo has been in the MCU since 2012’s The Avengers. Playing Dr. Bruce Banner a.k.a Hulk, the actor took over from actor Edward Norton after the latter had issues with Marvel during the film The Incredible Hulk. Though Ruffalo has not received a standalone Hulk film yet, the actor has been an irreplaceable part of the Avengers.
While Mark Ruffalo has been extremely loyal to the fanbase and the franchise, he recently came under fire for seemingly criticizing Marvel’s new approach to content production. In an interview with GQ, he seemed to have ruffled a few feathers by saying that the pre-Disney Plus MCU had more ‘mystique’ around it and could probably never return to the way it was.

Reed Richards is rumored to be a very important character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, being compared to Tony Stark. Needless to say, each member of the Fantastic Four is probably going to be influential in the MCU, but Richards in particular might have had more of an impact than one would put together.
Reed Richards in Marvel Comics
The Fantastic Four will be set in the 1960’s, being one of the rare MCU films that also doubles as a period piece. This has been done twice before, once with Captain America: The First Avenger (which was set entirely during the Second World War) and then again with Captain Marvel (which is set in 1995). However, setting the story in the ’60s opens up a lot of fun ideas for the narrative of the MCU, and one such idea involves the original Ant-Man: Hank Pym.

Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to the family adventure animation film Butterfly Tale from sales company Pink Parrot. Its voice cast features Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk), Mena Massoud (Aladdin, Star Wars: Ahsoka) and Tristan D. Lalla (Long Shot).
Butterfly Tale tells the story of Patrick (voiced by Massoud), “a gutsy and loveable, yet inept one-winged butterfly, who stows away in a milkweed trailer in order to be part of the migration journey of a lifetime,” according to a plot description. “Along with his best friend, a goofy caterpillar named Marty, and Jennifer (Maslany), a butterfly who is afraid of heights, Patrick will become an unlikely hero.”
The movie, produced by Marie-Claude Beauchamp (The Legend of Sarila) and Emely Christians (All Creatures Big and Small), was directed by Sophie Roy (Double Dribble) from a script written by Heidi Foss (Pup Academy) and Lienne Sawatsky (The Guava Juice Show...

Deadpool 3 has its official title: Deadpool & Wolverine. The first teaser trailer for the movie hit the internet during Super Bowl Lviii, giving superhero film fans their first glimpse at the wackiness it will offer.
One of the biggest reveals from the trailer was confirmation of the longstanding rumor that the Time Variance Authority would appear in the movie. The Time Variance Authority (or Tva for short) is the temporal enforcement organization seen in the Disney+ Loki series, which ensures time flows as it should in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Most people assume Deadpool and Wolverine will be tasked with killing rogue variants of live-action Marvel characters who deviated from the Sacred Timeline. However, a new theory by the YouTube channel New Rockstars suggests they’ll be tasked with fixing the lousy writing and plot holes in various live-action Marvel Studios and Fox superhero films.

In "Avengers: Endgame," it was revealed that the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) had conceived of a way to stay a green-skinned muscle monster at all times while maintaining his ability to think and reason. Prior to this breakthrough, Bruce Banner only turned into the Hulk when he was angry, becoming an unreasoning brute keen only on destroying everything in front of him. Sadly, this development for the Hulk meant that audiences would not be able to see Ruffalo, a very good actor, in person any longer. In "Endgame" and in the TV series "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," Ruffalo was realized only through motion-capture CGI. It's very good CGI, but it's not Ruffalo's real face. The last time we saw Ruffalo was during a brief spiritual out-of-body experience in "Endgame," and even then, he was a translucent ghost.

Alaqua Cox Led Echo’s Budget Revealed ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Marvel seems to have ignited new hopes among the fans with its recent mini-series, Echo. The Ma-rated show led by Alaqua Cox received positive responses from the viewers and managed to do so with a budget much less than some of Marvel’s previous shows. It might give the studio some perspective on their upcoming projects. Scroll below for more.
The Disney+ series explored the origin of Maya Lopez, her relationship with Kingpin [played by Vincent D’Onfrio], and catch up to the events of Hawkeye and after that. It is perfectly done as people have been intrigued, and their anticipation for Daredevil: Born Again has also increased. Charlie Cox as Daredevil also had a cameo in the Marvel show. For the unversed, Matt Murdock and Maya develop a relationship in the comics, and we hope that will be explored further in the MCU.

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

Jameela Jamil and longtime love James Blake put their love on full display during a very rare outing on Saturday (January 20) in Paris, France.
The 37-year-old She-Hulk actress and the 35-year-old “Retrograde” hitmaker attended the Valentino Menswear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show during Paris Fashion Week and put on a stylish display while posing for photos together.
Wearing monochromatic black, Jameela capped off her look with knee-high boots and stylish sunglasses. James provided a bright pop of color in a long, royal blue trench coat.

If you were unaware, the couple has been together since 2015. However, we rarely see them out in public in recent years.
We got photos of them cozied up during an afternoon on the town in New York City back in October 2023. Since then, they’ve made a scant few appearances.

“Okay now, this is your second chance,” declared She-Hulk on the cover of 1989’s Sensational She-Hulk #1. “If you don’t buy my book this time, I’m gonna come to your house and rip up all your X-Men comics.”
That declaration didn’t exactly make Sensational She-Hulk a best-seller, but it did launch the John Byrne run on the comic, which made Jen Walters into the fourth-wall breaking hero seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The show was met with a mixed reception too, including here at Den of Geek. But if an update from star Tatiana Maslany is to be believed, it looks like the MCU Shulkie won’t get the second chance afforded her comic book counterpart.
While on the Codenames Live: The New Class stream, host Tim Riel asked Maslany about hopes for a second season for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Four original Ally McBeal cast members, star Calista Flockhart as well as Greg Germann, Peter MacNicol and Gil Bellows, reunited Monday night during the Emmy broadcast on Fox more than 26 years after the debut of the legal dramedy, which aired on the network for five seasons, from September 1997 to May 2002.
The bit started with Flockhart washing her hands in a replica of the show’s famous unisex bathroom.
“I knew I drank too much water; I had to take my Spanx off, I had to put my dress back on,” Flockhart is heard “thinking” in a voiceover before she takes a look in the mirror and tells herself, “Girl, you look good.”
That is when there is a series of three toilet flushes, each followed by an Ally McBeal cast member, MacNicol, Bellows and Germann, coming out of a bathroom stall.

Here at /Film, we have talked quite a bit about how much we love genre-specific streaming services like Shudder or Alter, but does such a platform exist for fans of science fiction? Sure, there's always the Syfy channel on cable, but with so many people cutting cords and pivoting exclusively to streaming, you may be wondering where to find new and unique sci-fi stories. Well, may we interest you in Dust? A sister site of Alter, Dust comes from the folks at Gunpowder and Sky, the independent studio behind hits like "Summer of 84," "Tragedy Girls," "Her Smell," "Hearts Beat Loud," "Call Me Miss Cleo," and "Kobe Bryant's Dear Basketball."
A hub for the very best in sci-fi short films, Dust also has a live linear channel constantly playing from their selection of shorts, so if you don't feel like wading through the selections, you can let the service choose for you.

Science fiction has gifted us some of the most iconic villains in cinematic history, from the imposing presence of Darth Vader to the dread-inspiring Predator. It's hard to imagine that these menacing figures could have sported entirely different appearances. In the world of movies and TV, the creative process often calls for exploring multiple paths before settling on a final look. What if these other designs had been embraced? Could V'ger from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" or the "Forbidden Planet" Id Monster have been more effective if they weren't the figures we know today? Would the title creatures from "The Thing" or "Alien" frightened us so much if they had been imagined in other ways?
These distinct designs provide a rare glimpse into the untapped potential of characters and beings we love ... and love to hate. Such remarkable variations might have redefined our perception of these antagonists. Sometimes, the...

The SAG-AFTRA strike wrapped up yesterday. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has finally reached an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The exact details of the deal are still under wraps, but it marks the end of a prolonged battle involving concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in actors’ performances and the actors’ push for residual payments from shows and films streaming online.
With the strike behind us, several MCU projects are back on track, resuming their normal schedules. ‘Deadpool 3,’ which was only halfway through production, will resume filming, along with Sony’s ‘Venom 3,’ whose release date was pushed to the end of 2024. In a recent episode of Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider discussed ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and the implications of the strike’s conclusion on this highly anticipated project.

Lately, there’s been buzz about Marvel’s iconic Green Goliath scoring his solo gig and joining ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty.’ Fans are thrilled at the prospect, especially since, despite being one of Marvel’s all-time favorites, tangled distribution rights kept Marvel Studios from fully cashing in on him and kept him out of standalone movies.

Marvel has an impressive lineup of female superheroes on its roster and it's quite difficult to determine who is considered "the best".
For a while there, the only female superhero representative in the Avengers was Black Widow. However, the MCU has since expanded to include many Marvel comic book heroes like Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel and She-Hulk.
With many more women taking the spotlight in Marvel, both on-screen and in their own comic book runs, it brings up the question of which female Marvel hero is the strongest.

When Disney+ announced Secret Invasion, it was poised to be a more adult, grittier take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the wake of the season finale, Secret Invasion seems more like a colossal waste of time.
Six episodes isn't a significant investment, but nonetheless, you expect a payoff after spending that much time watching a season of TV.
Instead of being closed-ended, the series was more about setting up the following stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We watched six episodes and got little to no satisfaction with the conclusion.
The best compliment I can give Secret Invasion is that it was different from the other shows we've watched on Disney+ set in this universe, but since it was also the biggest chore to watch, that's not saying much.
I wasn't the biggest fan of She-Hulk, but at least the characters evolved as the series progressed.

Seemingly over before it had even started, Kyle Bradstreet’s Secret Invasion has rolled the credits on its six-episode miniseries. Pitched as the long-awaited Nick Fury standalone for Samuel L. Jackson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe staple, we were warned this would only loosely adapt the 2008 comic arc of the same name. Still, did anyone expect things to go down quite like that?
With just six episodes and an average runtime of 40 minutes, critics feel that things were rushed toward “Home.” Rounding off the stories of Fury, Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), and G’iah (Emilia Clarke), as well as shoehorning in Super Skrulls And setting up Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels and Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World was a lot for just 38 minutes (including credits).
With the writers throwing the kitchen sink at the Secret Invasion finale, it makes sense that a seemingly glaring plot hole slipped through the net.

When Daredevil: Born Again comes to Disney+, the 18-episode presentation will reportedly be divided into two parts, with multiple story arcs making up the overall adventure. This rumor hails from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who’s keeping tabs on the Marvel production, which is currently on hold due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Richtman says Marvel plans to break the series into multiple story arcs, with two or three episodes dedicated to each segment.
Additionally, Richtman says Daredevil: Born Again strives for a TV-ma rating, adding to the short list of mature content offered on the service as Disney+ prepares to merge with Hulu in the U.S. This tidbit should please fans of the Man Without Fear after many complaints about the character’s lighter tone in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
