Dyan Cannon, ex-wife of Cary Grant, and actor Jason Isaacs spoke about the new series Archie and how they were both able to learn new insights into Grant’s life.
Cannon explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers that the series started when director Jeff Pope approached her ten years ago after reading her novel.
“He read my book Dear Cary,” she recalled. “And said let’s make a movie, let’s option your book. I said let’s talk about what that would be, we did. And it’s evolved into a four-hour miniseries because ultimately he felt that an hour and a half couldn’t capture the fullness of what this life was.”
Isaacs, who plays Grant in the show, shared that he learned Grant’s true character and how that is different from the public’s view of him.

Judy Nugent, who portrayed one of the twins on the early TV sitcom The Ruggles and a girl who flies around the world in the arms of the Man of Steel on a heartwarming Adventures of Superman episode, has died. She was 83.
Nugent died on Oct. 26 “surrounded by family at her Montana ranch after a short battle with cancer,” according to a family statement shared by her daughter-in-law and Battlestar Galactica and Chicago Fire actress Anne Lockhart (the older daughter of Lassie and Lost in Space star June Lockhart).
The younger daughter of a prop man at MGM, Nugent also appeared in two films directed by Douglas Sirk: as a wise-cracking tomboy who tries to get a blinded widow (Jane Wyman) to snap out of it in Magnificent Obsession (1954), and as one of the daughters of Fred MacMurray and Joan Bennett’s characters in There’s Always Tomorrow (1956).

Judy Balaban, the daughter of a longtime studio mogul who dated Montgomery Clift and Merv Griffin, married Tony Franciosa and served as one of Grace Kelly’s bridesmaids at her wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco, has died. She was 91.
Balaban died Thursday night in a hospital in Los Angeles, her friend, author and documentary filmmaker Cari Beauchamp, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Balaban was a champion for civil rights, serving on the board of directors for the ACLU of Southern California for decades.
In a 2010 piece for Vanity Fair that she and Beauchamp co-wrote, Balaban described using LSD (then legal) as a form of therapy in the early 1960s when her good friends Cary Grant and his third wife, Betsy Drake, were using it, too.
“What I had with Cary and Betsy was a kind of soul-baringness that the culture didn’t start to deal with until years later,” she says in the story.

Q. Detective Inspector Nicki Jennings, school headteacher Sita Anwar, nuclear physicist Ulanya Khomyuk, and MI5 spycatcher Lily Thomas… what do they have in common?
A. They’re all intelligent, high-achieving, mostly working class, female characters from period-set true story TV dramas, but unlike their castmates with real-world counterparts, none of them really existed.
At the end of a true-story drama, when the moment comes for viewers to see the real people the actors have been playing, the above lot have no accompanying photograph or news footage. Their roles are patchworks, either several real-world figures rolled into one, or wish-fulfilment created to open up storytelling perspectives. Wherever history hasn’t traditionally allowed women in, or wherever history books have failed to commemorate women’s work as (cough) rigorously as that of men, some screenwriters have opted to put their thumb on the scales.

Born into extreme poverty, Grant was told as a child his mother had died. She had actually been placed in a psychiatric institution. It was the start of a life of repression and extraordinary reinvention
During the casting process for Archie – a forthcoming series for Itvx – about the life of Cary Grant, the late actor’s daughter, Jennifer, had several, unbreakable criteria. The actor playing her dad needed to be suave, of course, per Cary’s public persona. He had to be cerebral – her dad was an avid self-improver. And he had to wow her in a way that reflected the intensity of her relationship with a man who, at the age of 62, gave up a huge career to devote himself exclusively to raising her. Even by the standards of Hollywood, this last detail was eccentric.

Henry Cavill’s swan song as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s high fantasy hit “The Witcher” is upon us. The British actor shocked fans late last year when it was announced he would depart the role of the white-haired witcher, who is a monster hunter-for-hire, after Season 3, which the streaming service is releasing in two parts.
The first five episodes arrived on the platform Thursday and found a frustrated Geralt taking Ciri (Freya Allan), a young princess with immense power who is linked to Geralt through destiny, into hiding to protect her from those who seek to capture her for political and magical gains. While in hiding, Ciri is working with the powerful sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), with whom Geralt has a, let’s say, complicated history, to learn to harness and control her powers. Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “The Other Two,” titled “Brooke & Cary & Curtis & Lance,” now streaming on Max.
In the season — and now, officially, the series — finale of “The Other Two,” Brooke Dubek (Heléne Yorke) makes an analogy. After months spent chasing proof she’s a good person, Brooke is finally set to win an award for a mental health fundraiser, but she’s terrified of a backlash. “Don’t you remember when Jameela Jamil launched that body positivity app and then everyone accused her of lying about being attacked by bees?” she asks. Her assistant does not.
“The Other Two” was a show for people who do remember the minutiae of minor celebrities and the social media skirmishes surrounding them. For three seasons, the series thrived on specificity, speaking directly to viewers who understood Brooke perfectly (and could throw out a few alternate Jamil...

In one of the silliest running gags of The Other Two’s third and final season, Cary (Drew Tarver) dates a Method actor whose commitment makes Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad antics look like child’s play. As Lucas (Fin Argus) slips from one role to the next, he inhabits each one 24/7 — adopting the personality, habits and even the backstory of whatever serial killer or Hallmark boyfriend he’s playing that week. It’s not until the finale that he stops working long enough for Cary to get a glimpse of the real Lucas, and when he does it turns out he’s not much of anyone at all.
Without a role to disappear into, Lucas is left to wander the forest naked and confused, so disconnected from his own identity that he’s surprised to learn he’s Australian. (“No wonder he books,” Cary mutters.) His booked-and-busy career is...

Farewell, “The Other Two.”
The day before it aired its Season 3 finale, co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider announced there will not be a fourth season of the beloved comedy series, adding that they “always knew” this was “where we wanted to end” the stories of Brooke and Cary Dubek.
In the series finale, the siblings, after nine episodes of selfishness and depravity, finally show up for the ones they love. On a desperate mission to win an Academy Award for playing gay Albert Einstein, Drew Tarver’s Cary chooses to take a break from acting — despite the movie landing Harry Styles as a love interest — in order to heal himself and repair his friendship with Curtis (Brandon Scott Jones). Meanwhile, as her famous family members’ talent manager,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 finale “Brooke & Cary & Curtis & Lance.”] The Other Two Season 3 has not been easy for Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver), nor for those closest to them (Josh Segarra‘s Lance and Brandon Scott Jones‘ Curtis). But the finale leaves those key relationships in, if not a good place, a hopeful one. Brooke steps up and takes blame when when Pat (Molly Shannon) and Chase (Case Walker) come under fire. Pat problem is deleted tweets that paint her as a classist elitist with disdain for small town America. Meanwhile, Chase wins a Peabody for a mental health special while exploiting people struggling with mental health to sell albums. After Brooke reconnects with and is honest with Lance, the two reunite. Meanwhile, Cary realizes how he’s been acting and talks to Curtis and turns down the film he’d wanted to score him an Oscar. ...

“The Other Two” is coming to a close after three seasons amid reports of a toxic workplace.
The beloved and critically acclaimed series will conclude with its current third season, making the June 29 episode the series finale. “The Other Two” was created by former “SNL” writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, who shared a press statement clarifying the decision to end after Season 3 was not due to being canceled.
However, The Hollywood Reporter credited sources saying there were “multiple staff complaints” about showrunners Kelly and Schneider over the course of the production. Per the THR report, the Hr complaints stemmed from behavior on set and in the writers’ room, including allegations that Kelly “verbally abused writers and overworked crew and claims that Schneider enabled his behavior.”
A source tells IndieWire that the report was unfounded and not connected to the series ending. Max representatives did not provide comment to THR.

One of the best parts about The Other Two (there are so many!) is how funny and fun it is. And so TV Insider had to ask the cast — Drew Tarver (Cary), Heléne Yorke (Brooke), Molly Shannon (Pat), Ken Marino (Streeter), Case Walker (Chase), Josh Segarra (Lance), and Brandon Scott Jones (Curtis) — some more light-hearted questions (and one serious) about their characters when we caught up with them ahead of the third season (the finale drops June 29). As we’ve seen in the first nine episodes, there have been some highs and lows (especially the latter) for Cary and Brooke this season. “They’re hovering around their rock bottom, just kind of dipping their toe into the worst moment of their lives. And then this season, I think it becomes too much for the two of them to take, and they finally do reach full peak sadness,” Tarver noted. “I...

Bill Hader’s hitman dramedy grew bleaker and more ambitious with each passing season. The final episodes expanded the scope of Barry’s destruction beyond his loved ones, beyond Hollywood and even beyond L.A.’s criminal underworld into the next generation, as embodied by his wide-eyed son. Joe Goldberg has a lot to contend with in the upcoming fifth and final season of “You”.
Netflix dropped a 40-second teaser video during its Tudum fan event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday, where Penn Badgley hinted that familiar faces from Joe’s past will return to wreak havoc on his life.
“You’re considering what, or should I say who Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York. Though I can’t say who just yet, we know there are many loose ends from Joe’s past,” Badgley said in the video, amid flashes of past characters such as Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), Dr. Nicky (John Stamos), Ellie (Jenna Ortega), Cary (Travis Van Winkle) and Sherry (Shalita Grant), among a few other key players. “Question is, who are you?”

While “You” Season 5 won’t be hitting Netflix for a while, Penn Badgley is tiding over fans by teasing that some unresolved business from Joe’s past escapades will return for the final season of the thriller series.
“I’ve heard you’re on the edge of your seats waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to ‘You,'” Badgley said in a video that played during Netflix’s Tudum Global Fan Event hosted Saturday from São Paulo, Brazil. “More importantly, you’re considering what, or should I say who, Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York.”
“Though I can’t say who just yet, we all know there are many loose ends from Joe’s past,” Badgley continued, as the clip flashed to Marienne locked in Joe’s cage in London during his psychotic break in Season 4.

Heléne Yorke has one word that comes to mind when describing her character, Brooke Dubek, in the third season of the Max series, “The Other Two,” and that is insecurity. “I think that she’s displaying her truest, deepest, darkest insecurity in this season. She’s gone about things confidently, blindly and I think this season she gets existential in a way and goes down a path that she can’t get out of,” she tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). She attributes this to the wide variety of humor that show creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider bring to the show and its characters. “I would be more surprised if I was not surprised by the creators of the show. I think they are incredibly deft in the writing and their storytelling.”

There’s a long history of great actors who have never won an Emmy Award. Hugh Laurie has a total of 10 Emmy nominations with zero wins for his work but the most glaring oversight is that after six nominations for his iconic role on “House” he never took home the prize. But that’s nothing compared to Angela Lansbury, who went home empty-handed a whopping 18 times. But they’re in good company – including the likes of Jackie Gleason, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Phylicia Rashad.
With Emmy voting starting, I wanted to highlight some shows and performances that have so far gone overlooked by the Emmy Awards. Most of the programs I chose have been completely shut out by the Academy.

Drew Tarver is not oblivious to how Cary Dubek on “The Other Two” has been going in a very unsavory direction. “I feel like Cary has always been dipping his toe in a little bit of bad behavior of finding himself giving into his desperation over the first two seasons,” he reveals to Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). But unlike where Cary was in the first two seasons, Tarver sees him losing his grip on knowing where to dial back his more selfish tendencies. “I feel like this season he’s really struggling with knowing where the line is to where he’s going, getting so self-involved that he’s hurting those around him and himself a little bit more.”

It’s not long after I request a quiet table in the back, reporter’s notebook and tape recorder in hand, that the hostess of this rustic East Village trattoria asks who I’m meeting. When I tell her Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke, her eyes light up in recognition before she begins listing other stars who frequent the restaurant: Ben Stiller; Tyler, the Creator; Emily Ratajkowski; Ziwe. As I scan the menu, she recommends the chicken Milanese — Pete Davidson’s favorite entrée.
This interaction might sound celebrity-obsessed, verging on grossly superficial. But then again, I’m about to sit down with the stars of “The Other Two,” the hilarious and scathing satire of how fame consumes, corrupts and confines us.
Soon after we’re all seated, Yorke says with a hearty laugh, “Being an actor is, in many ways, a humiliating experience.”

As the Hollywood writers’ strike enter its seventh week, the Writers Guild of America held an international day of solidarity called “Screenwriters Everywhere” on Tuesday, partnering with other unions around the world to demand better wages from studios.
Members of writers’ unions affiliated with the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (Fse), International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (Iawg), Uni Global Union (Uni-mei), as well as other supporters and workers held rallies in more than 30 countries to show their support for the ongoing WGA strike while WGA West President Meredith Stiehm and members of the WGA negotiating committee spoke at the picket lines in front of the Walt Disney Pictures backlot in Burbank and the Netflix production space in Hollywood.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 Episode 5, “Cary and Brooke Go to an AIDS Play.”] Let us say how much we need the humor of every person groaning (but not wanting to complain) and settling in as the 8 Gay Men With AIDS: A Poem in Many Hours play takes up their lives for days in the latest The Other Two. Because with the relationships? Well, there’s a lot of heartbreak. The episode begins with Pat (Molly Shannon) and Streeter (Ken Marino) informing Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) of their breakup; they’re at different places in their lives, with her fame making any sort of normalcy impossible. Streeter, unsurprisingly, starts talking about custody and promises Cary and Brooke they have rooms at his place. Then, while Lance (Josh Segarra) sleeps during the play, Brooke, despite insisting she’s out of the industry, spends her time trying to ...

It’s never easy for Cary on “The Other Two,” is it? The older Dubek brother (Drew Tarver) finds himself doing the yeoman’s work of television — playing a lawyer — on a long-running series called “Emily Overruled,” in Episode 4 of Season 3. But although the cast and crew of “Emily Overruled” delight in hitting their marks and going home at 5 p.m., Cary is convinced that acting should be much more and tries to inject some life into the colorless soundstage environs— a journey that required intense collaboration across multiple departments on “The Other Two.”
The show’s production design, camera, editing, and VFX teams all worked together alongside series showrunners Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider to create a rich visual metaphor for working on a long-running series: a black-and-white world in the style of “Pleasantville,” one that throws Cary off of his game until he can bring color and life...

As a famous woman onscreen and off-, it’s not entirely surprising that there are moments when Molly Shannon’s life mirrors that of her The Other Two character, Pat Dubek — until she shares that those common experiences include enjoying anonymity courtesy of a disguise.
In episode four of the Max comedy, which debuts on the service today, billionaire media mogul Dubek is tired of being surrounded by security or getting swarmed by fans every time she leaves the house. After sneaking out without her bodyguards proved to be an ineffective solution, she came up with another idea: donning prosthetics and a wig that made her look like “Grandma Dubek.”
She first tests the persona while meeting her son Cary (Drew Tarver) for coffee. “See! No one can tell, Cary. It’s perfect,” she exclaims. “All I need to do is get into full prosthetic makeup every morning for four hours,...

Considering everything that Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) have had to deal with on The Other Two so far, they should have a handle on how to handle some (fun) celebrity PR crises… right? That’s what TV Insider decided to find out when chatting with Yorke and Tarver about Season 3, which does see each of their characters having some form of success after living in the shadows of their famous brother Chase (Case Walker) and mother Pat (Molly Shannon). For example, Drew’s movie Night Nurse finally came out, and Brooke is taking steps to figuring out what it is she exactly wants to do with her life outside of the industry. So what would Brooke and Cary do if one of them went viral for sending a thirsty Dm to another celebrity? “It seems like something they would do,” Yorke admits, with Tarver adding, “You’d spin it as a positive.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 Episode 3, “Cary Becomes Somewhat of a Name.”] Life for Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) could, of course, be going better on The Other Two. But hey, at least they have some success. After quitting the industry in Episode 2, Brooke decides she’s back in when she attends a party because otherwise, no one she sees as important can see her. She’s out of the industry by the end of the episode. Meanwhile, Cary doesn’t react too well when Curtis (Brandon Scott Jones) gets a role he thought would go to him. Executive producers Sarah Schneider and Chris Kelly break down those key moments and tease what’s ahead. We see a bit of a crack in Cary and Curtis’ friendship, with the former’s reaction to his friend getting the role he auditioned for. Is that something that’s going to continue...

There is nothing “other” about HBO Max’s “The Other Two.”
The acclaimed comedy returned for its third season with two new episodes on May 4, wasting no time in reminding viewers and voters why it should be in the running for Best Comedy Series. The showbiz satire, which was created, written, directed and executive-produced by former “Saturday Night Live” writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, picks up in a post-pandemic world with self-obsessed siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) having found success (or something close to it if you squint) as an actor and a manager, respectively. But although they have escaped the shadow of their younger brother Chase (Case Walker), neither can get out of their own way long enough to make real progress. With excellent supporting performances from Molly Shannon and Josh Segarra (the Mvp of every show he appears in), “The Other Two” is the...

“The Other Two” star Drew Tarver hopes the HBO Max comedy series goes on for a long time.
The actor, who co-headlines the inventive and comically genius show alongside Heléne Yorke, told TheWrap that the creative force of co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider could keep the Dubek family’s adventures going for years, finding new ways to explore the machinations of the entertainment industry in the process.
“I feel like every season has been such a fun level-up for the sad people that are these characters,” Tarver said. “I would love to see these characters go for, you know, 25 seasons (laughs)… I also obviously love everybody on the cast. Any time we spend time together, my life is happy.”
“I hope I haven’t been too desperate in this answer [but] please let us do more!”

The Other Two is back for its third season, which means we're once again about to board the roller coaster that is Cary Dubek's (Drew Tarver) acting career. At the end of Season 2, Cary got the role he was coveting in the indie thriller Night Nurse (starring Edie Falco and Beanie Feldstein!). But that doesn't mean he's got it made. Season 3 sees Cary continue to scrap and push and make increasingly humiliating self-tapes to get the next role that will keep his career on the ascent.

“The Other Two” co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider know that the HBO Max comedy’s biggest strength comes from its hilarious and ruthless commentary on the madness of trying to make it in Hollywood. As workers in the industry, satirizing its troubles is an almost healing and cathartic exercise.
“I think the worries or fears or curiosities or anxieties or discontent that Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) have are usually based on something we’ve felt ourselves, or things that people in the writers’ room felt [working in Hollywood],” Kelly told TheWrap ahead of the Season 3 premiere. “So that is the nice thing about having a show in general, let alone a show that is about your own job, you can work through your own feelings.”
“And we really do love our jobs,” Schneider added. “For all the industry’s flaws we do like being a part of it, so...

General Hospital‘s Eden McCoy isn’t about to let an internet troll spoil her third Daytime Emmy nomination for playing Josslyn Jacks on the ABC sudser.
After a Twitter user criticized how McCoy, 19, is competing in the Younger Performer category against two grade-school-aged actors — Cary Christopher from Days of Our Lives and Henry Joseph Samiri from The Bold and the Beautiful — McCoy clapped back on social media by writing, “Oh am I supposed to be embarrassed by my nomination now?”
“Shame on anyone tweeting that,” continued McCoy. “Regardless of the changing rules in the Younger Performer category, I stand by the quality of my work in Any of my years at Gh (going on 8 btw). My two prior nominations were in years where the category was 25 and under. Multiple talented actors my age who did amazing work submitted this year, and these “kids” whose work you were belittling were nominated ahead of them.

Fellow Chase Dreamers, rejoice! On May 4, “The Other Two” returns for Season 3. The HBO Max original comedy series about aspiring artist siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) struggling with their lives in the wake of their 13 year-old brother becoming a viral tween superstar has been beloved by its niche audience since 2019. But will Season 3 finally be “The Other Two’s” turn to break through in awards season?
“The Other Two” started life at a disadvantage. It began as a Comedy Central original that started streaming on HBO Max in Season 2 as an original in 2021. The flip-flopping network branding of the show certainly inhibited its ability to reach a more mainstream audience. But Season 3 arrives at a perfect time to get picked up in the Emmy conversation. An early May air date means the show should be ending its run just as Emmy voters start considering their ballots.
