She suffered a broken foot in The Wizard of Oz (1939). When a large Winkie accidentally stepped on her foot, and she was given a few days off to recover from the injury.
There is a life-sized statue of Toto dedicated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
She has appeared in three films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: Fury (1936), The Wizard of Oz (1939), & The Women (1939).
