[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 5 “Stronger Together.”] Lee (Kavan Smith) just needed to not want to be mayor to get the position, it seems, on When Calls the Heart. With Mike (Ben Rosenbaum) feeling very much like a little brother while negotiating with Benson Hills’ mayor, his sister Maisie (Samantha Ferris), Lee finds himself given the job. “It’s probably a double-edged sword because obviously he ran for mayor before and didn’t win. So I think he feels winning this way is a little cheap,” Smith tells TV Insider as part of our weekly When Calls the Heart aftershow, Heart Beats. “But then I think after reflection, he probably thinks sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles and you got to take it when it happens,” he continues. “Lee just decides to magnanimously slide into the role because it is sort of what he sees for himself.

Los Angeles, Feb 20 (Ians) Actress Maisie Williams, who shot to stardom at 12 with her role as Arya Stark in ‘Game Of Thrones’, said that being part of such a popular fantasy show gave her an identity crisis as she was growing up in the spotlight.
“I was so lost for so long and I knew that I was, and when I couldn’t pin down what I felt my identity was within that, it brought me a lot of discomfort. Now I feel a lot more comfortable in my own skin. It’s hard to even put myself back there and talk about how tough it was because I think it’s done,” Maisie told The Sunday Times newspaper.

It's Christmas of 1971, and students Clara (Georgia Acken) and Samantha (Madison Baines) are stuck at the Blackvale School for Girls with their empathetic teacher (Chloë Levine) and the school's resourceful chef (Gus Kenworthy). But while the quartet does their best to embrace the spirit of the season, a sacrificial cult led by Maisie (Olivia Scott Welch) and Jude (Mena Massoud) soon arrives on their front step with sinister intentions that are far more scary than any door-to-door Christmas carolers... although by the end of the night it just might be the cult members who wish they had never crashed the festivities at the Blackvale School for Girls.

‘Tis the season of abundance! Celebrate more being more with director Jenn Wexler’s “The Sacrifice Game,” a campy new Shudder release that imagines what would happen if the cast of “The Holdovers” got a Christmas visit from the Manson Family at an all-girls boarding school with a witchy secret.
Co-written by Wexler and Sean Redlitz, this grab-bag seasonal period flick — shot in snowy Canada and set in 1971 — is more gruesome than scary and takes a handful of decidedly silly turns. Be it fruit cake, stuffed stocking, whatever your holiday metaphor, the fantasy horror adventure of students Samantha (Madison Baines) and Clara (Georgia Acken) gifts audiences steadily stranger fun almost all the way through. It’s a genre blend that’s delightful, baffling, and surprisingly ruthless in its decisive direction with a holiday twist that isn’t necessary for the plot but certainly ties the zany concept together.

Watching Christmas horror movies is a proud tradition for spooky fiends looking to escape their post-Halloween blues and the agonizing two months of forced consumerism and awful music blasting in every department store. The films in this very specific category are known for subverting the cheer and innocence associated with the holiday, and often focus on characters experiencing isolation because their family situation is far from those depicted in generic Hallmark Christmas movies. Every year, we are treated to new ideas on how to make Christmas creepy, and this year fans should be snuggling up on the couch to view is The Sacrifice Game.

The Simpsons went to Scotland on Sunday night’s (December 3rd) episode, and witnessed a performance from Scottish royalty Belle and Sebastian.
The episode, titled “Ae Bonny Romance,” centers around Groundskeeper Willie being whisked away to his Scottish homeland ahead of his marriage to Maisie, voiced by Karen Gillan. Equipped with matching blue suits and a custom bass drum head, Belle and Sebastian perform at Willie’s rehearsal dinner; fittingly, they played “If You Find Yourself Caught In Love,” from their 2003 album Dear Catastrophe Waitress.
For the episode’s end credits, Belle and Sebastian also contributed a new original song called “Willie and the Dream of Peat Bogs,” which, for a brief moment, sounds eerily similar to “Judy and the Dream of Horses.”
Frontman Stuart Murdoch took to social media to share his appreciation for the needle-drops: “I think they did us pretty well, what do you think?” he tweeted in response to their cartoon-ification.

"Game of Thrones" has been off the air for several years now, and the prequel series "House of the Dragon" has taken over the world that author George R.R. Martin created in his novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire." While the controversial finale of "Game of Thrones" soured a lot of fans (including myself) on the show, all you have to do is think about Maisie Williams' portrayal of Arya Stark to remember why we loved it in the first place. Getting to watch a young girl who always knew she didn't want to be like everyone else grow, change, get more powerful, and set off on a massive sea adventure at the end was a wonderful thing, and something I wish there was more of on television.
While there were many things that didn't translate well from the books, Arya's character absolutely did. Perhaps you, like me,...

Directed by Jenn Wexler (who co-wrote with Sean Redlitz), The Sacrifice Game is a mash-up of two reliable horror sub-genres: the home invasion thriller and the summoning-a-demon supernatural chiller. As such, it’s an entertaining and frequently rather nasty slice of horror hokum, with an inventive and fun central twist.
Set over Christmas, 1971 (meaning it qualifies as a Christmas movie), the film opens by establishing that four members of a Manson Family-like demonic cult – sadistic charmer Jude (Mena Massoud), hulking Vietnam vet Grant (Derek Johns), driver Doug (Laurent Pitre) and sexy ringleader Maisie (Olivia Scott Welch) – have been performing blood sacrifices on people after invading their homes. When Chris Williams started developing “The Sea Beast,” he knew he wanted to explore several themes and that one of them would be how the way that history is taught can affect how we act in the present. “I talked about the fact that I wanted to really examine this idea of a cycle of aggression and a cycle of violence and how it can perpetuate itself and how difficult it can be to break away from it,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above).
He continued to pursue this theme because of the events that he saw happening around him and how that affected people’s view of the world. “There are times where there are powerful interests that will create narratives that can pit us against ourselves for their own gain. That felt more specific and more potent.”

Though there are different styles on display this year in the contest for animated feature Oscar, what unites them is the passionate, intuitive craft and care put into voicing these films by their dedicated talent. These affable actors have given voice to such colorful creations as a miniscule mollusk, a positive puppy, a desperate dad, a sassy stowaway, a wild wolf and a teen-turned-red panda. They range in experience behind the mic from newbies to veterans, but they all approach their performances no differently than their live-action work.

Get ready to sail the seas again! "The Sea Beast" director and co-writer Chris Williams is working on a sequel to his nautical fantasy adventure, an animated film that's equal parts "How to Train Your Dragon" on the high seas, a love letter to "King Kong" and similar giant monster movie classics, and a surprisingly authentic portrayal of life on the ocean in the vein of "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World."
"The Sea Beast" marked the solo directing debut for Williams, who spent over 20 years working for Disney Animation on projects like "Bolt," "Big Hero 6," and "Moana" before jumping ship to Netflix for "The Sea Beast." French and Belgian comics inspired the characters in Disney Animation’s Strange World, which follows three generations of explorers, including teen Ethan. “He’s designed to have more realistic proportions, in contrast to other, wiry Disney teens like Hiro Hamada or Mowgli,” explains director Don Hall. “He’s biracial, and we wanted his skin tone to reflect both his mother, Meridian, and father, Searcher, and our team worked with Black hair experts to get his locks just right.” Textiles, he adds, took a cue from woven fabrics from environments like the Himalayas, with buttons and ties instead of zippers. “Given Ethan’s journey from unsettled teen to conservationist, we opted for a kind of laid-back, ‘granola’ vibe, with his green cutoff farm pants being the only subtle clue as to his internal conflict with his father’s expectations for him.” His vest is deep blue with red trim.

Spoilers ahead through episode 9 of "Andor."
In this week's episode of "Andor," we got some new information about Aldhani Rebel leader Vel Sartha (Faye Marsay). When we first met this no-nonsense woman as Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) joined her mission, it seemed like living simply in the mountains was something she'd done her entire life. As it turns out, that was completely wrong. We got our first clue when her partner Cinta Kaz (Varada Sethu) said Vel could use the identity of a rich girl running away from home as a cover. Vel told her that was cold, but it was also true. Vel is actually Senator Mon Mothma's (Genevieve O'Reilly) cousin and wealthy as well. There is certainly more than one way to serve the Rebellion.
/Film's own Ethan Anderton recently interviewed Faye Marsay about her role in "Andor" and spoke to her about another incredibly popular show she...

Maisie Williams is weighing in on the “Game of Thrones” final season discourse.
On a Twitch stream with her brother James Williams, the Arya Stark actor said she recently rewatched “Game of Thrones” and admitted, “It definitely fell off at the end.”
She added that the HBO series “started really strong.”
“It kinda popped off,” Maisie said. “For the longest time… I could never see it from the outside. So I could never say that and actually understand it. For the first time, it feels good to be proud of it. It was 10 years of my life.”
She continued, “I was heartbroken when Ned died, yet I knew it was coming,” Williams said, referring to Arya’s father, played by Sean Bean, who was ruthlessly killed off in Season 1.
James responded that the show was “great” and “we were all enjoying the hell out of it.” He added that people...

Welcome to the latest installment of our 100 Word Hits column, in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us short, sharp reviews of the latest books to hit comic stores over the past month or so!
Han Solo & Chewbacca #5 Written by Marc Guggenheim | Art by David Messina
Finding themselves at the mercy of Black Krrsantan, Han and Chewie are sort of ‘rescued’ by Khel Tanna and her gang who are also after the urn and are press ganged into working for her. Greedo also makes a welcome return for some great banter with Solo as does Benelex Marshal Vancto
There’s lots of action, double-crossing, a daring rescue attempt on the con-man masquerading as Solo’s father and a cliff-hanger of an ending (no spoilers here!) It’s a hugely entertaining read but my only gripe is that David Messina’s art looks a...

Maisie Williams is speaking out about her past. The Game of Thrones star discussed her "traumatic" childhood and how her upbringing affected her as she grew up. The 25-year-old actress recounted harrowing moments from her adolescence that have stuck with her throughout her life. "I don't want to go into it too much because it affects my siblings and my whole family," Maisie said during a Sept. 26 podcast episode of The Diary of a CEO. "But, like, that really consumed a lot of my childhood." She added, "Ever since I can remember, I've really struggled sleeping." “Jurassic World Dominion” is upon us.
Billed as the last installment in the “Jurassic” “era” (because surely there will be more films), this latest entry in the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece “Jurassic Park” back in 1993, is bigger and more dinosaur-stuffed than ever. “Jurassic World: Dominion” unites the two halves of the saga, as well – with newer characters like Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) partnering up with legacy characters Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). Considering that they they are dealing with various ecological disasters, corporate conspiracies and villainous threats, there’s enough adventuring to go around.
But how does the whole thing come together? And where does the movie leave off? Read on to find contextualize that ending if you just caught up with the film on streaming.
Major spoilers for “Jurassic World: Dominion” follow.

I remember how perfectly John Williams’ lush score for 1993’s Jurassic Park set the stage for what was to follow. That film was imaginative, funny, scary, and filled with interesting doings. Since then, every sequel has paled in comparison, lifting bits and pieces of the memorable theme and elements from the first film. What filled in the large gaps were just…more. More dinosaurs. More chases. More corporate stupidity. What was a noble, yet misguided plan was undermined by corporate greed, a theme that was exhausted by the time Wayne Knight was devoured.
The Jurassic World reboot with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard was entertaining enough and the CGI improved so we could see more nuance among the species that were now becoming a global ecological threat. Add in some genetic shenanigans with the arrival of Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), you have some new tones to play with.
