Could Margot Robbie be bringing the same kind of meta introspection and examination to The Sims in the way she did with Barbie? That is a possibility of what’s to come as her production company, LuckyChap, has taken on the life simulation game for an upcoming feature film. The Sims is an immensely popular game from Maxis, the company that first let gamers play God with the legendary simulator SimCity. While the brand followed up with other similar-natured games like SimFarm, Sim Hospital and SimAnt, it was in 2000 that they gave players the chance to live life in The Sims.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron, who is known for her work on the first season of the successful Marvel Studios series on Disney+, Loki, is set to take the helm on the feature. Herron is also attached to co-write the film with Briony Redman. Robbie’s LuckyChap also includes Tom Ackerly,...

The long-running simulation series The Sims is currently making headlines for getting a feature film adaptation. Initially reported by Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, the details surrounding the live-action were later corroborated by THR. With the video game franchise getting reimagined, Margot Robbie is said to be helming the production of the film.
Margot Robbie in and as Barbie
Notably, there have been multiple attempts to get a Sims film produced in the past. But unfortunately, it never succeeded. However, with recent reports surrounding The Sims adaptation, it seems there’s still more life left in the tank. Therefore, set to be directed by Loki helmer Kate Herron, the movie is expected to be a grand success considering Margot Robbie’s attempts at Barbie.

Nine months have gone by since Lionsgate announced that they were moving forward with a Leprechaun “reimagining” that had Felipe Vargas, director of the award-winning short film Milk Teeth, on board to direct. During a new interview with Splattercast, Vargas confirmed that the reimagining is still in development, and that he’s hoping to do something gory, sexy, crazy, and elevated with this property.
Vargas told Splattercast (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. It can just be gory, sexy, crazy.” He said that they’re still figuring out the tone for this movie and what the balance of horror and comedy will be. “I would love for it to...

Up next from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is New Line Cinema’s Weapons, and Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) had originally been attached to star. But Pascal’s busy schedule, which includes “The Last of Us” Season 2 and Marvel’s Fantastic Four, forced him to drop out of the project. THR reports today that Josh Brolin (Dune 2) is now in talks to star.
Brolin would take over the role Pascal had been set to play. Stay tuned.
Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) is currently part of the Weapons cast.
The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. Last May, it was announced that Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us had signed on to star in Weapons… and six months later, it was reported that Pascal was also in talks to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s new attempt at bringing the Fantastic Four to the big screen. Josh Brolin is in negotiations to star in Weapons, the New Line horror thriller from Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger.
The feature is Cregger’s highly anticipated Barbarian follow-up and was to have shot last year but the dual writers and actors strikes caused the movie to push its initial fall 2023 start of production. That caused a conflict with the project’s previous star, Pedro Pascal, whose schedule ran up against his commitment to Fantastic Four, which is shooting this summer.
Cregger wrote the top secret script for Weapons, which is described as an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.
The project is also a reunion of the Barbarian producing team. Cregger is producing along with Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

In one of its first development moves since the end of the writers strike, New Line has hired Blair Butler to write Occupant, the adaptation of a short story by Victor Sweetser.
Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the critically adored 2022 horror movie Barbarian, is producing the supernatural thriller with frequent collaborator Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon and Scott Glassgold of Ground Control — the latter specializes in the horror short-story adaptation business — are also producing, as is John Poliquin.
The project was the subject of a heated bidding war in February with New Line, the Warner Bros. division that dominates the studio horror space, winning it with a six-figure outright buy.

Anna Kendrick’s directing debut “Woman of the Hour” has been acquired by Netflix after its Toronto premiere on Friday. The streamer is paying in the $11 million range for the ripped-from-the-headlines thriller, making it the first major sale of the festival. The deal covers the U.S. and several international territories including France, Italy, Japan and South Korea.
Sources tell Variety that Netflix won out in a competitive situation after the film garnered multiple offers.
In the movie based on a true story, Kendrick plays a contestant on “The Dating Game” in 1978, who picks Rodney Alcala as her potential date. Alcala, who died in prison in 2021, turned out to be a serial killer of at least eight victims but possibly over a hundred. The “Dating Game” contestant, Cheryl Bradshaw, never went on the date with Alcala, who had already been convicted of being a sex offender. Daniel Zovatto plays the killer,...

The latest to join the cast of upcoming sci-fi/horror Companion for New Line Cinema is Rupert Friend, Deadline reports today.
Friend joins previously announced cast members Sophie Thatcher, Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Lukas Gage (“You”), Megan Suri (It Lives Inside), and Jack Quaid (Scream, “The Boys”).
Announced back in February, Barbarian director Zach Cregger is producing Companion for New Line Cinema. Described as a sci-fi/horror movie, Companion will mark the directorial debut of Drew Hancock, who also wrote the script.
At this time, plot details remain under wraps.
Rupert Friend most recently starred in William Brent Bell’s 2021 horror movie Separation, pictured above, as Jeff, the single father struggling to piece together a new life for daughter Jenny (Violet McGraw) when the puppets from his comics seem to take on a life of their own. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Lionsgate has given the greenlight to a new film in the Leprechaun franchise – but it doesn’t sound like this one will see Warwick Davis reprising his iconic role, nor will it be a follow-up to Leprechaun Returns, where Linden Porco played the title character. Instead, the project is being described as a “reimagining”, with Felipe Vargas, director of the award-winning short film Milk Teeth, on board to direct.
Mike Van Waes, who wrote the novel Peeves and has worked on the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, has written the screenplay for the new Leprechaun. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
