Jared Leto’s Morbius underwhelmingly performed at the global box office on its theatrical release but gained momentum when released online. Whatever the outcome went, the lead actor has already expressed his opinion on reprising his role which aligns with Fast X star, Tyrese Gibson.
Jared Leto as Morbius
The latter is currently occupied with promoting his new project, Bloodline Killer but when it comes to joining the Spider-Man Universe, he’s more open to the idea, which doesn’t fit well among the fandom.
Fast X Actor Tyrese Gibson is Open to Return for Morbius 2
Jared Leto’s tenure as Dr. Michael Morbius was set to explore more of the Spider-Man Universe in detail but Morbius didn’t turn out to be a promising project. Although the movie was unable to captivate audiences or critics’ interest, the movie’s post-credit scenes hinted at an installment.

Although it may have fared enough to make up for any losses, Morbius is still unarguably one of the most critically panned movies of all time from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite holding hot talents like Michael Keaton, Tyrese Gibson, and Jared Leto, the film still underperformed among viewers because of things ranging from its storyline to the character arcs to not delivering perfectly.
Morbius (2022).
That being said, one of the major reasons why the film failed to serve its audience’s expectations was because it cut off some of those brutal scenes that could have garnered a lot of fan support. One of these included Gibson’s crazy fight scene as well, which was shown in the trailer but never made it to the final cut — something that inevitably left even the actor disappointed.

Actors Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds collaborated for the 2012 feature Safe House for the first time. The film saw Washington in the rare role as a villain, whose character would undergo a torturous interrogation process by the government.
Although Washington could’ve used a stunt double for the dangerous scene, he wanted to experience the feeling of being tortured firsthand.

Washington mostly preferred to do his own stunts in his films. This was the case in Safe House, an action thriller that required Washington to be in decent shape. Since he couldn’t rely solely on stunt doubles, Washington and his co-star Ryan Reynolds worked with professionals to physically prepare for their roles. In a resurfaced interview with Black Film, Washington asserted that he also had time on his side while training for the feature.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe At Worldwide Box Office: From Venom To Madame Web! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
With Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web out in the theatres, another movie has been added to Sony’s Spider-Man universe. We have seen other films in that universe, including Tom Hardy-led Venom. However, the films comparatively earn less at the box office than the MCU movies, but remind you, we are not talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films.
The Spider-Man movies have been under Sony for a long time until Tom Holland played the role; it merged with the MCU, and thanks to that, the fans witnessed Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom’s versions of Peter Parker in 2021’s No Way Home. In the end credits, we saw Tom Hardy’s characters, Eddie Brock and Venom.

A filmmaker with an affinity for the dark, Daniel Espinosa caught international attention with 2010 Swedish thriller “Easy Money.” Hollywood was immediately and understandably intrigued by his capacity to make us care about shady criminal types, and for his part, the Chilean-born, Sweden-based director couldn’t resist the lure of making an American studio movie. Or three. Alas, each paycheck took Espinosa farther from his core strength: finding the humanity in morally compromised characters. Now, in a hard swing from ill-advised snabba cash project “Morbius” in 2022, “Madame Luna” can be seen either as penance or simply a return to form. Either way, this tense, tragic contemporary immigrant drama makes infinitely better use of his instincts.
Where Espinosa’s past four credits allowed him to work with an enviable roster of English-speaking stars — Denzel Washington, Tom Hardy, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jared Leto — this smaller, more sociological character study gives him a chance...

Daniel Espinosa’s “Madame Luna,” about an Eritrean refugee-turned-people smuggler — which premieres at the International Film Festival Rotterdam — is facing legal turmoil. According to filmmaker Binyam Berhane, it’s based on his original story and research.
“I am very saddened to hear these accusations towards the movie and genuinely hope that all parties that are involved in this will be heard,” Espinosa tells Variety.
“I sincerely hope Binyam Berhane is well, I’ve only heard good things about him and he is a very talented documentary director. What I can express is a genuine trust in the producers and the production company Momento Film, and I hope this clears up for everyone involved.”
As per Deadline, the $2 million lawsuit is directed at Momento Film, Rhea Films and Hercules Film Fund.

Exclusive: Update 9.30 am, 1/27 Pt The producers of Daniel Espinosa’s Italy-set immigration drama Madame Luna have expressed “dismay” at a lawsuit lodged against them by filmmaker Binyam Berhane, who says they misappropriated an original story and material created by him for the film.
The lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court last week is directed at David Herdies at Stockholm-based company Momento Film as well as Los Angeles-based Rhea Films and the Luxembourg-based Hercules Film Fund.
“It is with great dismay that we read Mr. Berhane’s version of events, which differs drastically from ours. Since a lawsuit has been filed we cannot go into the details of our defenses at this time. It is with sadness that the universal message of Madame Luna is being unfairly tarnished by this unnecessary litigation,” said Herdies in an emailed response.
Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films issued a separate joint statement.

Anthony Hopkins doesn’t feel the need to go Method in Marvel films.
The “Silence of the Lambs” Oscar winner told The New Yorker that appearing in Marvel films “Thor,” “Thor: The Dark World,” and “Thor: Ragnarok” had a “pointless” approach to acting due to the green screen CGI-heavy superhero films.
“They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me,” Hopkins recalled. “Sit on the throne, shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”
“Thor: Love and Thunder” actor (and fellow Academy Award winner) Christian Bale previously said it would be a “pitiful attempt” to apply classical acting techniques to play an MCU villain.

The awards, known as the Razzies, take place the weekend of the Academy Awards and celebrate the very ‘worst’ in film.
While many of the films nominated did not make it near this year’s Oscars, there is some crossover, with Ana de Armas’s Marilyn Monroe drama Blonde picking up the gong for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. De Armas is nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her performance in the film.
This year’s Razzies were mired with controversy following backlash for their decision to nominate 12-year-old Firestarter star Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress.
Writing in The Independent, Jacob Stolworthy said that “to nominate an Oscar winner, or someone with proven bankable success to their name, is acceptable; to highlight the performance of someone as young as 12 is not just tacky – it’s fairly reprehensible”.

Blonde has been “honored” with two Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — which also bestowed an award upon themselves for the first time in the group’s history.
Andrew Dominik’s film, which led the Razzies with eight nominations, won worst picture of the year along with worst screenplay for Dominik. The Razzies called the film “misogynistic, salacious and fallacious” and said it “shamelessly exploits the memory of the late Marilyn Monroe.”
The Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year, are announced annually ahead of the Oscars ceremony, which takes place Sunday. Incidentally, Blonde star Ana de Armas is up for best actress in a leading role at the 2023 Academy Awards.
Razzie organizers also chastised themselves for nominating 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong as worst actress of the year. After being “put through the cyberworld blender,” as they put it, they subsequently removed her from the ballot and announced...

Awards season is upon us, and while Hollywood is honoring 2022’s best films and performances, the Razzie Awards shine a light on the “worst” movies and actors of the year.
Leading the field is Andrew Dominik’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic “Blonde,” with eight nominations. While Ana de Armas is not up for worst actress, the film is nominated for worst picture and Dominik for worst director and screenplay. Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel are also both competing for worst supporting actor alongside Mod Sun and Pete Davidson for “Good Mourning” and Oscar winner Tom Hanks for “Elvis.”
Hanks is also in the worst actor race for his turn as Geppetto in Disney’s live-action “Pinocchio.” Filling out the worst actor race are Colson Baker, Davidson (for a voice role in “Marmaduke”), Sylvester Stallone (“Samaritan”) and Jared Leto (“Morbius.”)

Andrew Dominik’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde landed eight nominations from this year’s Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture.
Announcing the film’s Razzies haul, the organization described the biopic as a film that “explores the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe…by continuing to exploit her posthumously.” Dominik also picked up Worst Screenplay and Director nominations.
Rapper Machine Gun Kelly’s stoner comedy Good Mourning trails Blonde with seven nominations. The Razzies called the flick a “laugh-free stoner comedy achieving the rare feat of scoring a perfect Zero on Rotten Tomatoes.” Kelly, who shares co-writing and screenplay credits with Mod Sun, racked up four noms, including worst actor.
Kelly will “compete” for the prize with Tom Hanks, who picked up a Worst Actor nom for his portrayal of Gepetto in Robert Zemeckis’s Pinocchio. Hanks also landed among the Worst Supporting Actor noms for Elvis. Hanks plays Elvis’s long-time...

Razzie Awards: ‘Blonde’ Leads Noms With Eight; Tom Hanks Lands Two Mentions for ‘Pinocchio,’ ‘Elvis’
The Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — have bestowed Blonde with eight nominations, including worst picture, in their annual picks for the worst films and performances of the year.
In their announcement, Razzie organizers said the movie “‘explores’ the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe…by continuing to exploit her posthumously.” Blonde also landed noms for worst screenplay and worst director for Andrew Dominik, “whose work here says more about him than it does about his subject,” the Razzies said.
Also landing multiple noms are Tom Hanks and Pete Davidson, who are both up for worst actor and worst supporting actor. Hanks was cited for his portrayal of Gepetto in Disney’s Pinocchio and his “latex-laden, ludicrously accented portrayal of Col. Tom Parker in the otherwise critically acclaimed Elvis,” while Davidson was singled out for his voice role in Marmaduke and his cameo in Good Mourning.

If you thought the Razzie Awards learned a lesson last year about bullying, decency and humanity when they graciously rescinded an “award” they’d given to Bruce Willis due to his failing health, you’d be dead wrong. This year’s Golden Raspberry “honorees” include a 12-year-old girl (wait — how is that okay?) in Worst Actress, Ryan Kiera Armstrong (“Firestarter”). Also recognized is movie star Tom Hanks in Worst Actor (“Disney’s Pinocchio”) and Worst Supporting Actor (“Elvis”) — he of course is a two-time Oscar winner for “Philadelphia” (1993) and “Forrest Gump” (1994). Scroll down to see all of the 2023 Razzie Awards nominations.

Jared Leto is getting on the Grid.
The Academy Award winner has officially been cast in upcoming “Tron” franchise installment, “Tron: Ares.” Joachim Rønning of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” fame is currently in negotiations to direct, IndieWire can confirm.
Deadline first reported that “Tron: Ares” will serve as a direct follow-up to “Tron: Legacy,” which marked Jeff Bridges reprising his role from the original 1982 sci-fi film. Garret Hedlund and Olivia Wilde also starred in the Joseph Kosinski-helmed 2010 film. A slated follow-up was scrapped in 2015 that was reportedly set to have Kosinski, Hedlund, and Wilde returning. Leto was rumored to be joining the cast at the time.
“Tron: Ares” is written by Jesse Wigutow and production is set to start in August 2023. “Tron” follows an arcade lover who is trapped in a computer program called the Grid where he is forced to participate in gladiator games to survive.

While there are no guarantees when it comes to predicting what audiences will show up for in theaters, horror and superheroes sit comfortably at the top of the reliable list. Transitionary phases in both MCU and Dceu resulted in more unpredictability than usual for superhero fare at the box office here in 2022. And though superhero movies have occasionally dabbled in horror over the years, 2022 undoubtedly saw them embrace the genre more than ever.
Before The Batman was released in March, director Matt Reeves described his take on the Caped Crusader as “almost a horror movie.” The suspenseful, unnerving opening sequence confirmed it. The Batman opens on Halloween, introducing this iteration of the Riddler (Paul Dano) as an eerie killer as he stalks and then murders the Gotham City mayor in his own home. It established a somber, gritty tone more akin to Se7en than your conventional superhero movie.

Sony’s comic book tentpole “Morbius” is one of the biggest flops of 2022. The film, starring Jared Leto in the title role, hoped to pull in audiences on the back of record-breaker “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” as it’s set in the same extended superhero universe. And yet, critics and audiences mostly ignored “Morbius” when it opened April 1. The film only grossed 73 million in the U.S. and came in well below the 200 million mark worldwide with just 163 million, miserable totals for a comic book movie in today’s market.
Matt Smith, who starred in “Morbius” as the villainous Lucien/Milo, isn’t letting the film’s reception phase him too much. “Morbius” is hardly the first studio tentpole starring Smith that has backfired with critics and fans. The “Doctor Who” veteran also had a role in “Terminator Genysis,” the 2015 box office bomb. Smith has learned how to shake off a flop.

Over the weekend," Daniel Espinosa's film "Morbius" was re-released in theaters to utter indifference. When "Morbius" was first released in early April of 2022, it was met with critical dismissal and relatively modest numbers (when compared to other movies based on Marvel Comics). The film was roundly mocked for its bad writing and silly vampire shenanigans, and it didn't take the irony-mongers very long to begin sarcastically overpraising the film. The phrase "It's Morbin' Time" began to enter the temporary lexicon, even to the point that star Jared Leto playfully shared a video of himself reading a fake script with that very title. Other...

”Morbius” debuted as an antagonist in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #101 (Oct. 1971), eventually evolving into a sympathetic 'superhero with super problems' in his own series.

"...it's rich socialite 'Martine Bancroft' who helps him keep a connection to his humanity, after he becomes a vampire.
"She stays by his side while Michael tries to discover a cure for his monstrous condition.
"However, tragedy strikes when circumstances lead to Martine herself being transformed into a vampire at Michael's hand.
"Now she has a strong aversion to sunlight, an accelerated healing factor and the ability of 'transvection', or the ability to navigate wind currents.”

Ok, I’ll be honest. I read the reviews, I saw the fall out of the films theatrical run. But…but… Morbius is one of my all-time favourite Marvel characters alongside Moon Knight, Taskmaster and Man-Thing. So I just Had to see Sony’s Morbius movie for myself.
So what’s the verdict?
Well for a start, Morbius feels like half a movie. Yes, half a movie. The ending is so abrupt that it felt like we were missing an epilogue, a conclusion. Hell, even a real set-up for a sequel beyond a brief flash of Something (which I shall not spoil) and a couple of post-credits sequences that try their damnedest to tie Morbius into the Marvel cinematic universe.
