Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff in Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Accountant,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release. Photo by Chuck Zlotnick. Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures ©
Ben Affleck plays an accountant with some special skills and special challenges in the mystery/action thriller The Accountant. Directed by Gavin O’Connor, what makes The Accountant different from other high-body count thrillers is the protagonist at its center, an autistic math savant. Christian Wolff (Affleck) is brilliant with numbers but has trouble with social interactions. His social difficulties look like autism spectrum, possibly the high-functioning type that used to be called Asperger’s, but his unusual upbringing by his brutal military operative father, designed to help him ward off bullies, has equipped him with skills in martial arts and weapons.

As I wrote about earlier this week, Ben Affleck is a pretty huge star in Hollywood, and rightly so. He can often command the screen, and later this week he has another star vehicle to showcase just that. It’s The Accountant, a slightly high concept shoot em up that has Affleck both in hero mode as well as serious actor mode. It’s an odd mix, one that sort of works, but also sort of doesn’t. It’s worth seeing if you like silly action flicks, though it can be a bit frustrating because of the effective drama put on display as well. Through it all though, Affleck shines. The film is an action thriller centering on Christian Wolff (Affleck), a seemingly mild mannered accountant. Christian suffers from autism, though he’s high functioning and has a much different skill set from others on the spectrum. You see,...

Stars: Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, Jay Gates, Jason Davis, Melissa Rauch, Melanie Ratcliff, Naomi Lavette, Lauren Lapkus, Alana De La Garza, Greg Cromer, Paul Schulze, Matt Cornwell, Bridget Gethins | Written and Directed by Matthew Weiner
Ben is likes to spend his days on a couch with his childish best friend Steve smoking weed. But when his father passes away, they travel back to their childhood home and their lives are turned upside down. On discovering his late father has left him a large sum of money and property in his will, Ben finds a new purpose in life. However, those around him are less supportive and as they all try to figure out what to do with the money, Ben and his family begin to re-examine their own lives as well.
With actors like Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler involved, you would be forgiven for thinking that Are You Here is a comedy.

There was a time when two veteran straight actors such as John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, taking on the roles of a gay couple and their subsequent travails at married life would have been the tabloid equivalent of shock and awe. It still might raise some eyebrows, but Ira Sachs’ Love Is Strange is a testimony to societal progress in terms of storytelling. Now it will face the box office as the Specialty title platforms this weekend via Sony Classics. A real-life gay marriage takes the spotlight this weekend courtesy of Starz Digital doc To Be Takei about the multi-faceted actor/activist and social media talent who is best known for playing Hikaru Sulu in TV’s original Star Trek. It will be joined by Millennium Entertainment’s Are You Here with Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler which will open day and date by Mad Men writer Matthew Weiner.

Filmmaker tandem Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland know a thing or two about being on opposite ends of luck. It wasn’t for a lack of trying, but after breaking out with Quinceañera at Sundance back in 2006 (it got picked up by Spc and generated good box-office numbers), the pair had difficulties setting up their sophomore feature. They got their groove back when they dug into Hollywood folklore and sifted thru silver screen legend Errol Flynn‘s timeline – the lucky actor who hit jackpot and had a life that mimicked the notion of rags to riches to rags. An example of a film that might have got lost in the abyss of films presented at Tiff last September, but that might nudge out an afterlife theatrically, The Wrap reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films have picked up The Last of Robin Hood. A fall release is expected.

Justice UK Trailer. Roger Donaldson‘s Justice (2011) UK movie trailer stars Nicolas Cage, January Jones, Guy Pearce, Jennifer Carpenter, and Harold Perrineau. Justice‘s – previously called Seeking Justice and The Hungry Rabbit Jumps – plot synopsis: “After his wife is assaulted, a husband enlists the services of a vigilante group to help him settle the score. The husband gets more than he bargained for.”
This looked like an average thriller until the group comes calling for their favor to be re-paid by Nick Gerard (Nicolas Cage) and he is disinclined to acquiesce to their demands. I also liked the fact that Gerard virtually has nowhere to turn for help because the group is made up of the very people he would go to.
Justice also stars Xander Berkeley, Monica Acosta, D’Arcy Allen, David Jensen, IronE Singleton, Joe Chrest, Mike Pniewski, Wayne Pére, Donna Duplantier, Melody Noel, and Jason Davis.

New York, Oct 26 – Hollywood philanthropist Barbara Davis was left shocked when her grandson, Jason Davis, showed up at her Carousel of Hope Ball with Tiger Woods’ mistress, Rachel Uchitel.
“Rachel is not quite the usual calibre of guest for the event,” which is a highlight in the La social calendar,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.
Indeed only Jason, who filmed ‘Celebrity Rehab’ with Uchitel, and Kathy Griffin seemed to want to be photographed with her.
Her name was conspicuously missing from a list of attendees too.
Other guests at the Beverly Hills event, which raises money for children’s diabetes, included Halle Berry, Jane Fonda, Tom Hanks.

Tiger Woods' former mistress Rachel Uchitel will be in good company when she checks into TV show Celebrity Rehab later this week (ends23Jul10) - the facility will be full of recent headline makers.
Joining her on the reality TV show, hosted by celebrity counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky, will be Jeremy London, Jason Wahler and former teen idol Leif Garrett.
Actor London recently hit the news when he reported he'd been kidnapped and forced to buy drugs and alcohol for a gang of youths in Palm Desert, California; reality TV bad boy Wahler was arrested and booked for misdemeanour battery in June after allegedly assaulting a woman at a party in Hollywood, California, and Garrett faces jail time after he was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin in February.
The troubled stars fighting their drink and drugs demons at the Pasadena Recovery Center, where Celebrity Rehab is filmed, will be joined by fashion icon Janice Dickinson and oil heir Jason Davis, among others.
It is not known whether previously announced rehab-mates Bonnie Pointer, Tila Tequila and rapper Bizzy Bone will be part of the new show.
Producers initially feared they would have to scrap the season after failing to net enough star names. They reportedly offered Lindsay Lohan and Liza Minnelli big deals to appear on the show. Both stars turned them down.

Sources connected to the production tell us Uchitel had originally turned down the show -- but after producers Doubled their offer and Dr. Drew personally paid Uchitel a visit, Rachel changed her mind.
We're told Uchitel will make around $500,000 for her stint on the show.
A rep from VH1 claims Uchitel is hoping to kick an addiction to pills.
We're told it's unclear if this will affect Uchitel's offer to join Donald Trump on "Celebrity Apprentice."
The network claims Uchitel will be joined on the show by supermodel Janice Dickinson, actor Jeremy London, musician Leif Garrett, oil heir Jason Davis, ex-reality star Jason Wahler and singer Keyshia Cole's mother. Source: TMZ...

New reports claim Rachel will be joining Janice Dickinson, Jason Wahler, and more on the show!
It looks like Rachel Uchitel may have an additional upcoming reality show besides The Apprentice — Celebrity Rehab! Us Weekly is reporting the infamous mistress will join a cast that includes Janice Dickinson, Jason Wahler, Jeremy London, Leif Garret, Jason Davis, and some other person no one has ever heard of!
We kind of find this a bit hard to believe however as there has never been much talk about Rachel having any sort of addiction. Oh, unless it’s for her fame whoring!
Needless to say this season looks to be another complete disaster where no one really gets rehabilitated and people keep relapsing for public enjoyment. It’s mostly just sad and depressing.
.
Watch Bristol Palin talk about how Levi proposed to her! Let’s just say Levi was super romantic about it!

"Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" is minus Tila Tequila and plus Jeremy London. The actor reportedly has signed up for the reality show that helps celebrities overcoming their addiction for 21 days straight. His wife Melissa Cunningham, according to TMZ is also on board.
London made a headline last month for being kidnapped and forced to do drug. The "7th Heaven" star has a history of coke and pills addiction but a source at the rehab center said London and his wife's case needs more attention because they are having withdrawals. The show is apparently just a first step before he enters further treatment which should last 3 to 6 months.
Filming which had been delayed because the producers failed to secure some A-list stars will begin soon and the premiere is set within this year.

Surviving an alleged kidnapping is one thing; surviving rehab with Dr. Drew Pinksy is another. Joining London are former-model-turned-reality-tv-whore Janice Dickinson,The Hills trouble magnet Jason Wahler, former Tiger Woods mistress Rachel Uchitel (yes, really), fallen former teen idol Leif Garrett, Frankie Lons (mother of singer Keyshia Cole) and oil heir Jason Davis. Apparently Jeremy London has signed on for Celebrity Rehab. Does this mean he’s admitting that his kidnapping-and-forcible-drug-taking story was all a ruse? Not exactly - he’s still sticking to it, but admits he’s fallen off the wagon. London will apparently be paid $40,000 for his appearance on the show. Nothing like a sudden windfall of cash to keep a known addict off the junk, that’s what we always say. London joins fellow “celebrities” Jason Whaler, Jason Davis (brother to greasy turd Brandon Davis) and Shauna Sand for Celebrity Rehab 4. We hope that Dr. Drew will help him fight his demons - it’s clear he has some. [Photo: Getty Images]...

A spokesperson for oil heir Jason Davis has refuted reports he was hospitalised last week (begs11Jan10) after an overdose - insisting he suffered complications from a skin infection.
Actor Tom Arnold staged an intervention to convince his pal Davis to enter a rehab program to kick his addictions late last year.
Davis, the grandson of billionaire oilman Marvin and brother to socialite Brandon, reportedly left the unit on New Year's Eve but was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last week, sparking reports he had suffered an overdose.
But his spokesperson has hit back at the allegations, insisting Davis suffered complications from a chronic staphylococcus infection and a skin inflammation, known as cellulitis.
His spokesperson tells the New York Post, "(Davis) did not overdose. Nor is he dead... Jason has been very public about his past use, and will continue to speak out on addiction and recovery."
Davis also insists he is making steps to kick his addictions, adding: "The prospect of dying young like Casey Johnson, Brent Shapiro and so many friends of mine is really scary. I am taking steps to get well and your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated."...
