Last week, The Deuce staged a war of words that saw its combatants, Candy and Rodney, criss-cross their stretch of 42nd Street. This week's episode ("Why Me?") tries a different but equally effective tactic: From the big-picture meta-plot to the individual storylines, everything seems headed the same way all at once. It's the first installment of David Simon and George Pelecanos's period piece that doesn't feel like bits and pieces stitched together, but a cohesive whole.

You don't take a walk on the wild side when you watch The Deuce. No, this show's journey through the seedy side of Seventies NYC is more like a leisurely stroll. Co-written by The Wire's David Simon and The Night Of's Richard Price and directed by James Franco himself, this week's episode – “The Principle Is All" – draws strength from that slow and steady rhythm. On paper, it's not really doing anything different than its predecessors: Vinnie, Candy, Lori and Abby all continue their respective learning curves as they...

A warm but never schmaltzy, perfectly formed family sitcom with no weak links in its cast, here's why you should watch The Middle...
Family sitcoms aren’t exactly thin on the ground, so finding a new spin on the format is always going to take some work. Originally intended as a vehicle for Ricki Lake, The Middle is a case in point. After several years in development, it finally aired in autumn 2009 with a new lead: Patricia Heaton, one of the stars of hugely popular show Everybody Loves Raymond. Writers Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline had previously been responsible for Roseanne, so the track records of all involved boded well for the series’ prospects. Six seasons later – with a seventh confirmed in May – expectations have well and truly been proved correct.

The 6'8" 550 lb. actor was recently kicked off a Us Airways flight bound for Rochester, N.Y., for taking up an extra economy seat. And the experience, the actor, 29, says, served as a huge wake up call. He's now vowing to lose the weight. With no seats in first class - his typical mode of airline transportation - the actor took up two in economy on his connecting flight from Philadelphia.

Before you continue reading this article, take 17 minutes out of your day and watch the fantastic short above, "Truth in Journalism." Watched it yet? Well, ready or not, spoilers lie ahead. In an interview with Collider, Shankar explains that this movie isn't a petition to land Kwanten a role as Venom in a forthcoming movie (though it's a fantastic argument for casting him in the role), but rather Shankar expanding his vision as a filmmaker and artist.
"The philosophy is simple: Let's take some of the money made from these movies to make something cool. I'm here now, I'm inevitably going to die at some point, and as an artist I feel an ardent urge to constantly be creating,...

Duncan's famous friends flocked to Twitter.com after hearing the news, with Sinise writing, "Had the pleasure of working on 2 things with Michael Clark Duncan. The Green Mile, & as guest star on CSI: NY. A real gentleman. R.I P my friend."

Somewhere in a dark, tiny room in the basement of American Idol HQ, Nigel Lythgoe is dusting off a clear plastic box containing a bright red button marked with two words that have the power to divide the Idoloonie Nation: “Judges’ Save.”
Idology: DeAndre Brackensick on Jimmy’s Scorn, Fresh Idol Songs, and a Genius Finale Idea

Subway does not mess around. Remember when Chuck was in danger of being canceled until Subway stepped in and sponsored a bunch of episodes? Not only did characters start visiting the “restaurant” more often so they could understand what dog taint smells like, but they also took to describing their sandwiches in ornate detail. I remember once there was an entire B-story about Big Mike’s immaculately constructed sandwich, and how the shenanigans at the Buy More were getting in the way of him eating it. It was a regular Dagwood Bumstead moment, I’ll tell ya. So I’m not sure what was going on with Community, but this week saw the conclusion of the failed Shirley-Pierce business venture from two weeks ago (because of some episode-shuffling), and now there’s a shining Subway on the Greendale campus. And I do mean shining — it glimmered behind the Dean as...

In one of the stranger events to come out of the comic market today, Orlando’s own Coliseum of Comics has announced that they will be banning the sales of Mark Waid’s print comics after Waid recently announced his upcoming digital imprint. The post that I’ve written here is more of an op/ed piece as opposed to a simple report so understand that these are just my opinions…and yes…I’m somewhat heated.
The following ordeal all stems from Mark Waid’s recent announcement at WonderCon that can be read here. What’s been blown out of proportion is the notion that Mark Waid is all but abandoning the medium of print comics and in doing so, is slapping the face of comic book retailers across the country with the launch of his new imprint of digital comics. Bill Posley was eliminated from "Survivor: One World" in what may be the craziest episode of the show we have ever seen in 24 seasons. Colton Cumbie was the leader of the effort to oust Bill and we had to commend Bill in our interview with him for not punching Colton for what he said to Bill.
I'm not even sure what to say about last night. I mean, I was mad after what I saw. I wanted to punch Colton after all the crap he was spewing last night.
"Yeah. That's the general consensus there around the 'Survivor' community. He did not portray himself very well."
Was he really like that? Was it editing at all?
"He was like that. You know, the deal with Colton is, and I've been trying to stress this over and over, Colton's had a very sheltered life. He makes that comment...

There have been some success stories coming out of "Fat Chef" (Thu., 10 p.m. Est on Food Network), most notably Big Mike's amazing transformation, but on Thursday night's episode, Maggie just couldn't stick with the program.
Maggie was a 29-year-old pastry chef in Chicago whose nightly episodes of binge-eating had propelled her weight to over 270 lbs.
First she didn't get along with personal trainer Robert Brace, saying they' weren't "a good fit." Then Maggie admitted that she'd had lap-band surgery (something she hadn't disclosed at the beginning of the program).
As Robert told her, if he and the other diet and exercise experts had known that she'd had the surgery then their approach to the program would have been different.
In return, Maggie displayed a desire for personal privacy that seemed totally at odds with her decision to take part in a TV weight loss show. "My lap band...

"Fat Chef" (Thurs., 10 p.m. Est on Food Network) combines two of the hottest trends on reality television right now-- cooking and weight loss.
On Thursday night's episode, viewers followed Mike Digby on his journey toward a healthier life.
The chef weighed over 300 lbs when he applied to be on the show, and he knew he needed to lose weight for the sake of his health: "I was on a road to death." He was also sick and tired of being called "Big Mike."
With the help of therapists, nutritionists and trainers, Mike spent 16 weeks on a grueling diet and fitness regime and underwent an astonishing transformation.
Fat chef no more!
When trainer Brett Hoebel presented the newly svelte Mike to assembled family and friends, he told them that Mike's goal had been to lose 80 lbs. However, he had blown through that to lose an astonishing 100lbs.

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 13, “Chuck Versus the Goodbye”
Written by Chris Fedak
Directed by Robert Duncan McNeill
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
After five seasons and 90 episodes, Chuck has finally reached its closing act, and the show’s primary relationship is still up in the air. Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walker have encountered many ups and downs over the years, and their ultimate happiness is well-deserved. It’s too bad that it’s not that simple. Sarah’s still trying to recover her memories, which include the feelings that grew for Chuck. This emotional undercurrent of her search drives the finale, even when their last mission (the third one!) gets rolling. Chuck convinces Sarah to let him tag along with her to find the evil Nicolas Quinn (Angus Macfayden), but her approach is cold and clinical. A happy ending should be inevitable for the couple, but the spy...

The fifth season of NBC’s comedy-adventure TV show Chuck is, very sadly, the final season.
The nerd-herder-turned-spy, played with such boyish charm by Zachary Levi (Tangled), went out on his own in season 5 — no intersect and no CIA backup. Of course, bad guys are still out to get him. But John Casey (Adam Baldwin, Serenity), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, Killer Elite) and Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez, TV’s Without a Trace) are still on Chuck’s team.
The Chuck: The Complete Fifth Season DVD and Blu-ray include 13 episodes, in which they take on a missing persons case, try to stop an assassin at a Buy More convention, infiltrate a cult and, of course, say goodbye.

Chuck Finale: “Chuck Versus Sarah” / “Chuck Versus the Goodbye” – Recap
It’s hard to write about the Chuck series finale without getting emotional. It’s been five years with these characters and to have everything come to an end, whether it’s satisfying or not, is a hard thing to accept. As I type these words, I’m still not 100% percent convinced it’s all over, not because I think the series could continue in some magical way, but because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Team Bartwoski. I certainly wasn’t prepared for how tear jerking this finale would turn out to be. It’s always been clear Chuck could handle a dramatic scene with ease, but this? This was something of a whole new level.

If the series finale of Chuck wasn’t a proper farewell, I do not know what is. These final two hours of Chuck were the most beautiful love letters to the fans, cast, crew, and everyone involved in supporting Chuck over these five incredible seasons. The comedy, the action, the romance, the geek references… it all came to an end last night in the most perfect way. Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak did not disappoint. Everyone poured their heart and soul into the finale and it showed. What a beautiful ending.

I have praised Chuck over the past five seasons for its ability to fuse comedy, action and heart into what I have dubbed here at TV Fanatic the Chuck Triple Threat.
This two-part series finale succeeded in making us laugh, and keeping us on the edge of our seat, but it was the overwhelming number of emotional triggers both "Chuck Versus Sarah" and "Chuck Versus the Goodbye" set off that made it an extremely satisfying ending.
At the outset. it seemed as if the whole "Sarah lost her memory and was going to be a problem" issue was resolved before it even started, but they flipped that scenario right on its head. Sarah, in fact, never got all of her memory back from what the intersect and Quinn did to her, which just gave us more time to watch Chuck attempt to jog it.

Five seasons, 91 episodes and countless Subway sandwiches after it began, "Chuck" came to a close Friday (Jan. 27).
The real finale that followed at least five other episodes in the show's history that, because of its near-constant bubble status, were designed as possible series finales. Because of that, it felt like there was some real pressure on team "Chuck" to get this one right.
Mission accomplished.
The two-parter of "Chuck vs. Sarah" and "Chuck vs. the Goodbye" wasn't perfect -- there is one glaring question left hanging at the end (more on that in a bit), and you can argue with the storytelling path the series took in the couple episodes prior to this. But having chosen that road, the show delivered an emotional, somewhat bittersweet but very satisfying capper to the story of a guy who works in a Buy More and the woman who walked into his life 4 1/2 years ago.

"Chuck, tell me our story."
Wasn't the answer Sarah got so much better than an upload from Intersect glasses?
I'll go on record right away as saying that I was very pleased with the "Chuck" finale, and I think the last 30 minutes of the final episode rank up there with the absolute best the show has ever done. It got dusty in my house many times during those last two hours, and as a sustained, well-earned sentimental farewell, the finale was everything I could have hoped for.
I needed to be convinced, however. When last week's episode ended with Sarah's memories gone, I was alarmed (even though I thought "Chuck Versus the Bullet Train" was a good...

Just like in the children’s tale of the “little engine that could,” Chuck was a television show that kept on chugging away against all odds and carved out a place in television history by running five seasons on the sheer will-power of its fans. Millions of Subway sandwiches later, the fans are still passionately devoted to their show. Having coined the phrases: Nerd Herd, Buy More and Captain Awesome, as well as creating a whole new dialect comprised of “the Intersect”, “flashes” and “Jeffster” and redefining what it means when a TV show is “on the bubble,” Chuck is now legendary. It not only created a universally-accepted and widely used lexicon, Chuck also introduced characters which fans fell in love with from around the globe. As the cast will soon discover, fans are not quick to forget their beloved characters and the names: Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie, Awesome,...
