Despite the high cost, celebrities, designers, and the who’s who of NYC and beyond shell out for the gala, which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Since the ’70s, the annual affair has attracted household names wearing the most haute couture fashions — always adhering to the chosen theme. See some of the most out-there and iconic guests and looks at the Met Gala over the years.

All eyes were on Zendaya as she stepped out in a flapper-esque vintage Roberto Cavalli dress at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards on Wednesday night at 1 Hotel’s Harriet’s in West Hollywood.
As co-chair of the event, which also drew Chrissy Teigen, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Coolidge, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Annie Lennox, Zendaya has long embraced vintage for red carpet appearances.
Most impressively, her last look — a chrome suit of armor from Mugler’s Fall Winter 1995 couture collection — reportedly generated $13.3 million in media exposure after wearing the piece to the Dune: Part Two premiere in London.
To mark this occasion, she rocked a silver roaring twenties-inspired gown from Cavalli’s spring 2011 collection. But the night was about much more than just sustainable sartorial selections.
“Fashion has always been a lens that we use to look at the world,” the awards show’s founder Livia Firth explained. “When you want...

Cannes, May 18 (Ians) Making her 21st appearance on the Cannes red carpet on Thursday evening (local time), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, after French photographers mistook Urvashi Rautela for her, left observers flummoxed with her choice of clothing.
The less respectful called it ‘hoodie couture’, some others said it appeared as if she had picked up a flowing sheet of aluminum foil from a kitchen in a hurry to act as a sort of canopy atop her flowing black gown; her fawning fans, however, insisted that she was looking very much like the “Queen of Cannes”.
In the past, according to media reports, she has shown up in a gold mermaid gown by Roberto Cavalli, accessorised with coral lips and immaculate hair, or as the personification of Cinderella, and last year, Renaissance painter Botticelli’s ageless masterpiece, The Birth of Venus, had clearly inspired her look.

One of the most talked about Met Gala guests has arrived.
Kim Kardashian turned up to Monday’s event wearing custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture by Daniel Roseberry, a design that featured a molded corset in blush satin underneath a draped skirt and top made from more than 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystals. According to Schiaparelli, the look took a dozen artisans more than 1,000 hours to create, as each strand of pearls was strung and draped to her body. Kardashian accessorized the look with a choker, pearl drop earrings, ruffled sleeves that flowed into a long train, and ivory heels.
Upon hitting the carpet, Kardashian spoke with Vogue’s special correspondent Derek Blasberg about the inspiration behind the custom look. “I wanted to feel glamorous,” she said, noting that while she normally feels pressure to deliver something major, she didn’t this year. “I just wanted to have a good time. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Academy Awards red carpet underwent a sea change. During the nascent era of the celebrity stylist, fearless stars not only began donning high-end designer labels (like awards show pioneer Armani) but also flouted traditional Oscar dress-code decorum in new ways, sometimes inviting the wrath of prevailing critics.
Among the looks that shook things up — and made an indelible impression on fashion and pop culture — were Sharon Stone’s proto-high-low dressing, Jada Pinkett Smith’s sensational two-piece set, actresses in one-of-a-kind vintage looks and a still controversial aughties affectation (the whale tail).
Nearly three decades later, the influence of the era’s Oscar red carpet can be seen all over the TikTok generation, Fall 2023 runways and, yes, once again on recent awards-season red carpets.

Taylor Swift made history at the 65th annual Grammy Awards after winning the Best Music Video award for All Too Well: The Short Film, making her an award-winning director.
The Midnights singer, who was nominated for four awards, arrived at the 2023 Grammy’s red carpet in a stunning midnight Roberto Cavalli two-piece, wearing 3 million worth of jewelry and her signature red lip.
It is safe to say that Swift, the first female artist to win Album of the Year three times, has had her fair share of Grammy wins in the past. We've come a long way, baby. Taylor Swift was seen applauding Harry Styles following his win at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. Later that evening, the exes were spotted catching up in the audience. The pop stars famously dated back in 2012, and though their relationship lasted less than a year, the split inspired many songs, including Swift's "Out of the Woods," and "Two Ghosts" from Styles.
The mature moment happened early on in the show. "Harry's House" was announced by Jennifer Lopez as the winner of the best pop vocal album category, and as Styles made his way to the stage, the Grammys rather strategically cut to Swift, who was smiling and clapping.
Throughout the night, Swift and Styles were also spotted hugging and chatting during Steve Lacy's performance of "Bad Habit" after Swift approached the table Styles was seated at. Later, when Styles snagged album of the year,...

A week of seemingly non-stop parties climaxed Sunday night with the 2023 Grammys at L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena, and as expected, music’s biggest stars did not hold back as they embraced fearless red-carpet style.
From Taylor Swift in a two-piece gown by Roberto Cavalli’s Fausto Puglisi to Harry Styles in a custom harlequin-patterned jumpsuit by Paris-based EgonLab and Lizzo in custom Dolce & Gabbana with a stunning opera coat, A-listers sported a wealth of unabashed fashion that has become a hallmark of this event — which frankly makes the Grammy Awards the most thrilling awards event of the season.
Oscar night may reign as the Super Bowl of fashion, but the overall tone of that event is undeniably rooted in sophistication and elegance. With the Grammys, viewers simply never know just how far nominated artists and attendees might push the boundaries of outrageous, high-wattage looks to create wow moments.

Beyonce’s visual album “Black Is King,” now streaming on Disney Plus, is truly a visual feast, filled with fashion moments to celebrate as it celebrates Blackness, motherhood and womanhood. It’s a celebration of Black ancestry and Black diaspora.
