- Anil's family is from Nepal, and he attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for Film and Television.
As a writer, Anil's awards include the New York Foundation for the Arts Screenplay Grant, the Asian Cinema Fund Grant, The Tribeca Institute & Sloan Foundation Screenplay Grant, and a winner on the Athena List, focusing on projects that have strong roles for women. - Got started in entertainment after producing a series of benefit concerts in high school, a gym jam, and a concert modeled after MTV's unplugged.
Later, he approached the vice principal at this high school to fund a production of a musical of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Initially, the principal was against it, citing the lyrics and explicit content, but he got CASA (Community Against Substance Abuse) to sponsor the show and got the green light and subsequently produced and performed in the show.
Got into U.C. Berkeley under a Biochemistry degree, but quickly changed to a Drama Major and Music minor once he bucked the South Asian parental preference of becoming a doctor.
