And just when you thought Hollywood would shift away from the remake and reboot craze, news of another remake just arrived. In 1989, Hollywood legend Danny DeVito directed the satirical black comedy The War of the Roses, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. The film was based on the 1981 novel of the same name written by Warren Adler. The movie follows a wealthy couple with a seemingly perfect life that crumbles at one point, and the perfection soon turns into a horrible and outrageous divorce.
The original movie was critically acclaimed and was a success for DeVito. Today, 35 years after the original, it has been reported that a remake of the movie is in the making, with Jay Roach attached to direct. On top of that, some interesting casting information has been revealed.
Namely, alongside this, it has been confirmed that Oscar-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for his interpretation of a...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman will star in Jay Roach’s remake of The War Of The Roses, titled The Roses.
Another day, another remake is in the works in La La Land. Well, technically, it’s another adaptation of Warren Adler’s 1981 novel The War Of The Roses, but most people are familiar with 1989’s film adaptation, which memorably starred Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas and was directed by Danny DeVito.
The new adaptation will star Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the central couple, who proceed with a very nasty, yet very entertaining, divorce.
Jay Roach has signed on to direct, while recent Oscar nominee Tony McNamara is penning the script. The film will simply be called The Roses.
The novel follows a couple, Jonathan (who was named Oliver in the 1989 film) and Barbaba Rose, as their marriage falls apart. In the 1989 film, Barbara simply realises she doesn...

If you say the phrase "war of the roses," chances are that most movie watchers will think of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as a combative couple rather than any historical bobbins between the houses of Lancaster and York. But going forward, film fans may instead picture Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the troubled pair, as they're starring in a reimagining of the William Adler novel that Danny DeVito brought to screens back in 1989.
Jay Roach, who has swung between comedy and political movies, is on board to direct what will this time be simply titled The Roses, with Poor Things' Tony McNamara writing the adaptation.

The 2023 film Outrage is short, simple, but not sweet. A revenge story at its core, it mixes the themes of nationalist politics and the innocent (sometimes not so innocent) lives that are lost in the aftermath of such political movements. The story revolves around a group of individuals who gather in a chateau in France to shape the future of French politics, but they don’t realize that they may have to pay the price for the death of a student named Max Moreau, who had been killed by the police. Max had been indoctrinated by the neo-nazi ideology being purveyed in the media, and the group of individuals gathered were the main players behind the spread of the ideology. Directed by Mathieu Bonzon, Outrage aims to entertain with an engaging plot, but at the end of it, it seems a bit too silly, trying to get its serious message across through the thriller genre.

Malaysia-born drector Lim Kah Wai’s “New World” reflects its creator’s nomadic life, split between studying and living in Osaka, Beijing and Tokyo. The film is in fact an unusual mix of Chinese and Japanese characters whose lives intersect and connect on a evolving backdrop.

Coco (Shi Ka) is a modern Chinese girl, living an easy life in Beijing, cocooned in her world of friends and shopping and chaperoned around by the driver of her wealthy and workaholic boyfriend. ‘AHS: Delicate’ struggles to practice what it “Preech”-es as generations of Satanic conspiracies bring the audience back to start.
“You’re having a fucking baby. Of course it hurts.”
American Horror Story is no stranger to more intimate seasons that largely rest on the shoulders of one or two characters. This approach can be successful, but this horror anthology series usually feels the most effortless when it operates like a proper ensemble piece. AHS: Delicate has focused almost entirely on Emma Roberts’ Anna Victoria Alcott and the ticking time bomb that gestates inside of her. It’s proven to be a mixed bag of an approach that becomes even more questionable in “Preech,” Part One’s “finale,” which emphasizes that Anna is not in fact special. She’s merely the latest trend in Satanic subjugation as dark forces give their master plan another go. It’s a turn that...

From the looks of how Rockabye’s promise of a sweet dream strings Anna along to desert her in the middle of a nightmare, Halley Feiffer isn’t playing around. And neither is the 12th season of American Horror Story, as our haunted, paranoid actress’ conditions are evidently growing more and more delicate. Callously multiplying the stakes that waged a war against Anna’s emotional and physical well-being in Multiply Thy Pain, the second episode hoists her up only to drop her on the cold, hard ground of unfathomable terror. How’s our Gotham Award winner handling her increasingly wicked personal and professional life? Let’s find out.
Spoilers Ahead
Congratulations Are In Order
Just when you thought that a signature dismissive husband whose wife is being haunted by something very obviously sinister couldn’t have any redeemable qualities, Dex gives you a pleasant surprise. You’re right, Dex! Anna isn’t making it up.

If there’s one thing Taylor Swift is going to do, it’s commit to the bit and see where it goes. On Sunday night, the singer attended the Kansas City Chiefs home game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium. Swift attending a football game could count as a bit all on its own, but it was her being buddied up with Travis Kelce‘s mom the whole night amid rumors that she’s dating the tight end that really shifted Twitter (or X, whatever you want to call it) into comedy mode.

“Smash,” the TV series about the making of a fictional Broadway musical, takes an early step toward becoming a real-life Broadway musical on Sept. 22, with a pair of industry readings led by Tony nominees Robyn Hurder and Kerry Butler.
Hurder plays Ivy, an actress cast in the lead role of a new musical about Marilyn Monroe, and Butler appears as Karen, Ivy’s understudy. Their characters share the names of two pivotal roles in the TV show, which also focused on the development of a Marilyn Monroe musical called “Bombshell.”
While it retains the series’ most recognizable elements, the musical adaptation of “Smash” departs in other ways with a storyline and cast of characters that are inspired by the series but not direct translations. “It’s definitely a new script,” said director Susan Stroman of the musical’s book by Bob Martin (“The Prom”) and Rick Elice (“Jersey Boys”). “It...

Wednesday evening, we got our first hints as to whether American Horror Story was going to succeed with its mad experiment. As you’ve no doubt read, this season, the series’ 12th, is the first that isn’t born of an original idea but adapted from a book, Danielle Valentine’s Delicate Condition (which has been described as “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby”). Delicate also marks the first time that Ryan Murphy has handed over the showrunner’s reins (to Impeachment: American Crime Story vet Halley Feiffer). So, did the gambles pay off? Arleen Sorkin, the original voice and inspiration behind Batman villain Harley Quinn, has died at the age of 67, TheWrap has learned. The news broke on social media Saturday, with numerous fans and colleagues sharing their memories of the actress and the character she helped bring to the screen.
Unlike most characters in the world of Batman, Harley Quinn did not make her debut in the DC comic books, but rather in the acclaimed ’90s animated show “Batman: The Animated Series.” Sorkin first played Quinn on the show’s seventh episode “Joker’s Favor,” with the character initially set to only appear in a single episode. But she became a recurring part of the main cast after a rough cut of the episode was met well by the producers.

Few American filmmakers of the last 40 years await a major rediscovery like Hal Hartley, whose traces in modern movies are either too-minor or entirely unknown. Thus it’s cause for celebration that the Criterion Channel are soon launching a major retrospective: 13 features (which constitutes all but My America) and 17 shorts, a sui generis style and persistent vision running across 30 years. Expect your Halloween party to be aswim in Henry Fool costumes.
Speaking of: there’s a one-month headstart on seasonal programming with the 13-film “High School Horror”––most notable perhaps being a streaming premiere for the uncut version of Suspiria, plus the rare opportunity to see a Robert Rodriguez movie on the Criterion Channel––and a retrospective of Hong Kong vampire movies. The 1980s was a good decade for British soaps. New ones were popping up all over the shop – first Channel 4 launched Brookside in 1982, then the BBC began broadcasting EastEnders in 1985 – but in 1988 an altogether different kind of soap arrived: Park Avenue, the world’s first teletext soap.
For the uninitiated (aka people under 30), teletext was kind of like the internet for your TV in the eighties and nineties, accessed via your remote control, with hundreds of pages of text and rudimentary graphics detailing the latest news, weather, TV listings, and sports results. You could even play games and book a cheap package holiday. And between 1988 and 1992, thanks to Park Avenue, you could also read a soap opera.
Yes, that’s right – who needs moving pictures anyway? Those TV soaps were just showing off, and don’t get us started on radio soap The Archers, with all its high-falutin’ sound effects.

In her book Becoming Free Indeed, Jinger Duggar discussed her experiences as a member of the Iblp [Institute in Basic Life Priciples]. This religious organization was devoutly followed by her parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar. In turn, they expected their 19 children to follow these practices.
