The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was the most shocking episode of the series to date, culminating with Jadis’ (Pollyanna McIntosh) death.
It was a storyline that had been in the works for years, but Jadis lost her life after playing quite the cat-and-mouse game with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).
Monsters and Critics was fortunate enough to chat with Pollyanna about her time on The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
Check out the full interview below.
Monsters and Critics: I watched this episode multiple times. It’s just one of those episodes you don’t get very often. Not a single scene is wasted.
Since you left the main series, fans have wanted a resolution for Jadis. We also saw you on World Beyond, but The Ones Who Live brought this arc full circle.

The return of two of The Walking Dead universe’s signature characters gave the latest spinoff in the franchise a ratings jolt.
The premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live — which features the returns of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and Danai Gurira’s Michonne — delivered 3 million viewers (inclusive of replays and simulcasts) over three days for AMC. That’s the best series debut performance on the cable network in almost six years (since The Terror in March 2018, which had the then-dominant Walking Dead flagship as a lead-in).
AMC doesn’t share data for its AMC+ streaming platform (in keeping with the m.o. for most streamers), but the company says The Ones Who Live premiere was the most watched episode of any show on the service. “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” brings Rick and Michonne back to AMC later this month, and AMC celebrates Valentine’s Day with a brand new trailer for the event series.
“Valentine’s Day is just about the last holiday you would associate with ‘The Walking Dead,’ but the truth is that love has been at the heart of this franchise from the very beginning,” Kim Granito, chief marketing officer for AMC Networks, said in a statement this morning.
“We were excited by the juxtaposition of the most romantic day of the year and the zombie apocalypse as a way to celebrate Rick and Michonne’s long-awaited reunion. We’re dropping a surprise trailer set to the voice of Phoebe Bridgers, social Valentine’s Day cards, exclusive merch in our Twd Shop, and to cap it all off we’re setting Sphere in Las Vegas on fire.”

Scott M. Gimple, the co-creator of the new “The Walking Dead” spin-off series “The Ones Who Live,” said he hopes to be able to reunite beloved franchise characters like Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) in an epic series crossover.
“There are so many things with this universe that I plan and put together, but I also know that God laughs, and you have to pivot to something else,” Gimple said. “I absolutely have been working towards that and hoping towards that, but we’ll see what happens. It might be a version of it that no one expects.”
Gimple revealed his coveted, long-term franchise goals at the spin-off’s premiere at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Los Angeles. Series leads Lincoln, Gurira, Lesley-Ann Brandt (“Lucifer”), Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”) and Craig Tate (“Snowfall”) joined Gimple at the red-carpet event.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has lived a few lives.
The project, which stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, reprising their respective Rick Grimes and Michonne characters, originally was set as The Walking Dead franchise’s first feature-length movie before transitioning into a six-part limited series.
It was designed to wrap up the story arcs for Grimes and Michonne.
However, Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe and showrunner of The Ones Who Live, which is the universe’s sixth spinoff, teased that it might not be that limited.
“Anything is possible — even if Rick dies in the last episode, anything is possible,” he said. “We’re focused on this one right now. But this one came together in a really amazing way, where there were all sorts of plans. And then the world changed and we altered those plans.”

The second trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live aims for a mood, and that mood is pervasive dread.
Coming two weeks after the first trailer, the new clip features multiple shots of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) slaying zombies — it seems to be Rick’s job — while hoping against hope that the other is still alive and they can find each other once again.
That’s the animating principle for the series, which brings Lincoln and Gurira back into the Walking Dead fold after both departed the flagship series in the later years of its run. The trailer also features a slightly longer glimpse at the military force headed by Terry O’Quinn’s character, Beale, who tells Rick that “everything will change” if he comes on board with Beale’s vision.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will (presumably) reunite Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) — but from what’s showcased in the trailer for the upcoming series, it won’t be easy.
The trailer (watch it below) puts both characters, returning to the franchise after departing the flagship series several years ago, in bleak circumstances, with shots of Rick pressing a bullet against his forehead and Michonne running from what appears to be a chemical weapons attack.
At one point, Terry O’Quinn’s character, Beale, asks Rick, “Why are you here? Do you want to kill, or do you want to die?” To which Rick replies, “Look in my eyes, sir. You tell me.”
The official description for The Ones Who Live reads, “Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on...

‘The Mist’ 4K Ultra HD Review – There’s a Reason We’re Still Talking About This Movie 16 Years Later
Stephen King adaptations have always been hit and miss. Before Mike Flanagan came along, there was one filmmaker who could always be trusted with King’s material: Frank Darabont, whose first foray into filmmaking was a short adaptation of “The Woman in the Room.” After making a name for himself as a screenwriter with the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob, Darabont made his feature directorial debut with 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption and followed it up with The Green Mile in 1999.
His thus-far final King adaptation came in 2007 with The Mist, which finds a group of locals trapped in a grocery store while an ominous fog shrouding mysterious secrets envelopes their quaint Maine town. A microcosm of any community, the supermarket is a canny setting for a contained thriller. The divisive mob mentality and pigheaded self-righteousness that manifests under pressure is even more poignant in a post-Trump world.

Exclusive: The Walking Dead spinoffs Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live and Interview with a Vampire are set to resume production after AMC Networks struck agreements with SAG-AFTRA.
The three shows are part of interim agreements with the Breaking Bad broadcaster that will allow filming to resume on the three high-profile series.
It’s understood that these agreements are specific to these three shows, rather than a blanket agreement between the company and the guild. AMC Networks, which produces the shows via AMC Studios, confirmed the waivers to Deadline, but didn’t comment further. AMC Networks is a member of the AMPTP but is not among the studios involved in the negotiations.
They mark the most significant television properties to strike such an agreement since the actors walked out. Other series on the interim agreement list include faith series The Chosen, Apple’s Tehran, which was handed an agreement due to its international nature,...

AMC premiered the first footage of The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne during a San Diego Comic-Con panel for the franchise.
Unfortunately, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira were not in attendance.
With the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, most of the panels at Comic-Con will proceed without input from the cast and creatives.
This is the shape of things to come until a fair deal is reached for writers and actors.
The series is "an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world," according to AMC.

We are closer than ever to witnessing Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira usher in a new era of The Walking Dead.
While production on many TV shows is being halted, the zombie drama's Rick and Michonne spinoff series has wrapped filming.
The creative team behind the highly-anticipated drama announced the news in a social media statement.
The Walking Dead: Summit is the working title for the project, but that could change by the time AMC begins marketing the show ahead of a 2024 bow.
Fans have been clamoring for Rick's return since Lincoln was written out during The Walking Dead Season 9.
Gurira followed on The Walking Dead Season 10. Initially, the plan was for both to star in a trilogy of movies, but those have since been reworked as the six-episode spinoff.
"Thank you for creating the next world of The Walking Dead with us," a statement shared on social media reads of the project finishing production.

The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne is adding a Lucifer alum to the cast.
Deadline reported Monday that Lesley-Ann Brandt has been cast in the six-episode limited series, which is currently in production in New Jersey.
Brandt will play Pearl Thorne, but in true Twd fashion, character details are being kept under wraps.
AMC officially ordered the spinoff last year at San Diego Comic-Con, years after the Andrew Lincoln trilogy of movies stalled.
Instead, fans are getting a six-episode limited series to wrap up Rick (Lincoln) and Michonne's (Danai Gurira) storylines.
Brandt's casting was heavily rumored on social media in recent weeks, but there are plenty of questions about how her character will fit into the narrative.
When The Walking Dead concluded, Rick was being pursued by the Crm, so there's a good chance Pearl will have ties to the helicopter group that have raised more questions than answers for fans.

"The Mist" is a movie that already came built-in with an alternate ending, as it were, in that Stephen King's novella left a different blueprint for how it might end. What King had written was more open-ended and hopeful about the fate of David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and the other survivors, including two characters played by future "The Walking Dead" actors who were meant to marry on the show.

It's been 15 years since the movie premiered, and people are still talking about that ending to "The Mist." It's an ending that almost seems happy on the surface: The storm turns out to not be nearly as all-encompassing as it originally appeared, and the military is now swooping in to save the day. David Drayton (Thomas Jane) will not be eaten by Lovecraftian monsters after all, and the world will presumably go back to normal pretty soon. The only problem is that he just shot his child and the other survivors in his car. For the rest of his life, David will have to deal with the fact that his eight-year-old son would've been perfectly fine if he'd just waited a few more minutes.
It's a gut punch of an ending — one that shocks you to the core the first time around and makes rewatches nearly unbearable. As you watch that final scene again,...

In 2010, Melissa McBride joined the cast of the recently-concluded zombie series, "The Walking Dead," developed and executive-produced by Frank Darabont. The post-apocalyptic show went on to be one of the most popular and financially successful TV series in history, and even inspired a spin-off series starring McBride and co-star Norman Reedus where the two would reprise their roles as Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon.
A few months back, McBride made the difficult decision to exit the upcoming series, citing her inability to relocate to Europe to shoot the show, which would have taken her away from the home she's built in Atlanta. It seems like a fitting decision for the same woman who made her breakthrough film debut in Darabont's 2007 adaptation of Stephen King's "The Mist," playing a character credited only as "Woman With Kids at Home."

Fifteen years ago, moviegoers were collectively hit with a narrative haymaker -- one its director firmly stands by. In 2007, it didn't matter whether you had already read Stephen King's 1980 novella "The Mist," because director Frank Darabont changed the story's hopeful ending to something much heavier in his adaptation, requiring a lead actor who could sell its bleak emotional truths without going over the top. The "Walking Dead" scribe knew exactly who he wanted to play painter David Drayton, the man who would guide the audience through the besieging of a small Maine town by cosmic, tentacled creatures. According to the director himself, Thomas Jane was always at the top of the list.

Naturally, when you make a horror movie called "The Mist," that mist is going to be pretty crucial to the final product. Making the titular mist look as real — and as menacing — as possible is key to the terror of the 2007 sci-fi-horror mashup directed by the enigmatic and talented Frank Darabont.
The film's special effects crew were determined to have as much of the mist itself be created with practical effects as possible, but that is definitely a feat easier said than done. The team went on to devise a plan to exert as much control over the actual mist itself as they possibly could. Cinematographer Rohn Schmidt told /Film's own Eric Vespe for his brand new — and awesomely massive — oral history of the film:
"Special effects person Darrell [Pritchett] had worked that out, tested it out with just positive air pressure and chilling the mist. He just walked around the...

Frank Darabont may have made his name on adaptations of Stephen King's more sentimental works "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile," but for my money, his greatest triumph with King's oeuvre came with the down-and-dirty, depressing monster movie "The Mist" in 2007. The one-location potboiler harkens back to the frenzied allegorical creature features of decades past for a taught, tense time at the movies. In /Film's oral history of the film, Darabont said of creating it, "I just pictured one of those low-budget movies that we grew up all watching. In my case, pre-video, late at night usually on some creature feature," and on that level, he basically succeeded.
However, the major difference between "The Mist" and the films it's inspired by is the advancement of digital effects. The turn of the 21st Century saw the regression of practical effects and more of a reliance on animators and computer effects artists to create creatures,...

Frank Darabont's "The Mist," an adaptation of the Stephen King novella of the same name, sported atmospheric terror, tentacled monsters surrounding a supermarket, and an unconventional, gut-wrenching ending. Most of the film is set inside a boxed-in space where tensions rise as the horror escalates, as the residents of Bridgton have nowhere to run. One of the residents, Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), interprets this eldritch terror as a religious armageddon and makes matters worse when she attempts to preach to and convert the survivors in an overzealous manner.
There is ample creepiness in "The Mist," in the form of swarming insects at nightfall and alien entities that manage to break into the store. However, the most terrifying aspect of the film is the fanatical Mrs. Carmody, who becomes a cult leader of sorts and convinces the new converts to sacrifice the survivors to appease the creatures. Carmody zeroes...

Today at Comic-Con, The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus teased that the “Daryl-Carol story isn’t over yet”—referring to the relationship between his crossbow-wielding apocalypse survivor and Melissa McBride’s.
Comic-Con 2022: Deadline’s Full Coverage
It’s not clear what Reedus was hinting at today, even if Daryl and Carol have been close since the series’ inception. But Reedus’ comment was particularly notable in considering the Daryl spinoff, first announced in September 2020, which is set to premiere next year. While his longtime Twd co-star McBride was originally set to join him in the new series—reprising her role as Carol—she exited the project in April of this year. AMC cited travel logistics as the reason for her departure, with co-stars Reedus and Jeffrey Morgan among those defending her from substantial fan backlash that followed, as Reedus took the blame for her exit in some corners. “Some of...
