When the call came from an officer who needed help facing an armed robber at a fast-food restaurant, two members of a reality television show riding along with Omaha police hustled to record the confrontation. In the chaotic scene that unfolded, one crew member was struck by "friendly fire" from one of the officers, a bullet slipping past his bulletproof vest and killing him, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said Wednesday. The robbery suspect was also killed. The weapon he was carrying turned out to be a pellet gun, though it looked and sounded so real that both witnesses and officers were fooled,...

After 25 seasons on Fox as one of the network's seminal shows, and one that helped to establish its brand, the reality show "Cops" was axed last spring. So creator and executive producer John Langley, with "beloved" son and co-executive producer Morgan Langley, started looking for a new home.
This fall, "Cops" reappeared -- looking much as it always has and still airing on Saturdays -- on male-centric cable network Spike.
"I love Spike, to be honest with you," John Langley tells Zap2it, sitting in the show's production offices in Santa Monica, Calif. "I think Spike is the bee's knees. It's got the right demo. It's a good match. They are excited to have us. They're promoting like mad. All those reasons make it fun."
And, while "Cops" matches Spike's focus on male viewers, it's not leaving the ladies behind.
"We have a surprisingly big female audience as well," Langley says.

The bad boys, bad boys are back — but on a new network. Cops launches its 26th season this Saturday at 8/7c on Spike TV, which grabbed the long-running documentary/reality show from Fox earlier this year.
Spike TV ordered 22 new episodes of Cops — the granddaddy of reality shows — and also struck a deal to license older repeats that will be paired with the new ones. "We've been energized by the move," says executive producer John Langley, who's been behind Cops since 1989. TV Guide Magazine caught up with Langley and his son, Morgan Langley (also an executive producer), to see how the big switch is going...

I'll admit it: I don't usually write about "Cops" and I don't usually watch "Cops," but last month I had a really fun sit-down with "Cops" executive producers John and Morgan Langley. This interview isn't particularly timely, since "Cops" premiered back in September -- due to baseball and "America's Most Wanted" pre-emptions, it feels like I've been waiting for six weeks to post -- and my intro question pertains [very loosely] to that premiere, but most of the interview is everygreen and I think it's really funny in places. I feel like I could have talked to John and...

MyNetworkTV has greenlighted "The Tony Rock Project", a comedy reality series starring the comedian brother of Chris Rock.
The series, from Langley Prods. and C to the B Prods., is scheduled to premiere in the fall 2008, airing at 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
The half-hour program features the humor of Tony Rock, younger brother of Chris, as he observes the hilarious habits of regular people. "Tony's charming personality, quick-witted comedy and cutting-edge social commentary makes the program a perfect addition to our Wednesday night comedy block," MyNet president Greg Meidel said.
Exec producers are John and Morgan Langley and Claude Brooks.
MyNet's lineup also includes Langley's "Jail" and "Street Patrol" and C to the B's and Qtopia Entertainment's sitcom "Under One Roof" starring Flavor Flav.
