Exclusive: Russia’s nearly year-long war in Ukraine has claimed the lives of more than 7,000 civilians, including 438 children, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. But the impact of the invasion goes much further than those numbers, of course – the bloodshed has sent more than five million Ukrainians fleeing across the Polish border, reportedly half of them teenagers or younger.
Those traumatized Ukrainian teens are the focus of the new documentary Don’t Leave Me Behind: Stories of Young Ukrainian Survival, which will premiere on MTV on February 21, just days before the war’s one-year anniversary. MTV is airing the film commercial-free.
“Filmmaker Nathaniel Lezra brings viewers just miles from the Ukraine-Poland border,” MTV said in a statement about the documentary, “where he chronicles the lives of Ukrainian teenage refugees as they process the unimaginable trauma of being displaced from their country and separated...

You’re trapped in a carnival of horrors. Every move you make is crucial. If you open the right door, you’ll survive, but others will send you falling down a slide of doom for eternity, getting your head bitten off, turned into a chicken, or sent into space. Nearly 10 years after “The Hills” signed off the air, the reality phenomenon is back with “New Beginnings.” This revival brings cameras back to follow the lives of many original cast members, some of whom are married, have kids or have been divorced.
The original series, which was a spinoff of the high school hit “Laguna Beach,” followed Lauren Conrad as she graduated and moved to the hills of Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion. Later on, Kristin Cavallari headlined the series, which turned no-name teenagers into pop culture sensations whose faces were constantly plastered across tabloid magazines with rumors of plastic surgery and sex tapes while the drama unfolded on television.
Nowadays, things are different. Conrad has gone on to become a Martha Stewart of the millennial generation and a New York Times best-selling author with nine books and lucrative clothing lines, while Cavallari turned into a businesswoman with a growing empire,...

Exclusive. On his way up the corporate ladder at Viacom, Chris McCarthy has added oversight of several networks, including MTV, VH1, Logo and Cmt. As is the case everywhere in television, most of them have needed revitalizing. But no rebuilding project came close to the challenges at MTV.
For most of the 2010s, the onetime pop-culture supernova appeared to have burned out. Past Viacom regimes exacerbated the effects of MTV reaching middle age, focusing more on squeezing cable operators and buying back stock than on revitalizing the programming lineup. When McCarthy took over in late 2016 (just before Bob Bakish succeeded Philippe Dauman as CEO), MTV was practically an also-ran in the ratings.
Now, as Viacom gets set to report its fiscal first-quarter earnings on Tuesday, the picture is much rosier. McCarthy has zeroed in on unscripted content, successfully rebooting mainstays like Jersey Shore and launching new shows like Ex on the Beach.

Exclusive: Following the success of Wahlburgers, A&E has greenlighted another Boston-set reality pilot executive produced by Mark Wahlberg about a fledgling business enterprise. Tipping its hat to hit comedy The Big Bang Theory, the half-hour project is tentatively titled Big Brew Theory. It follows four quirky and highly intelligent MIT grad students who have pooled their life savings to achieve their dream of creating a home grown micro-brewery and team up with a beautiful MIT undergrad to launch their business. The Big Brew Theory reunites frequent collaborators Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Stephanie Drachkovitch and Bill Thompson. This marks Wahlberg’s fourth reality pilot at A&E, all set in his native Boston. Two of them, Wahlburgers, which he produces with Levinson and Drachkovitch, and Breaking Boston, which he produced with Levinson, Drachkovitch and Thompson, went to series. Wahlberg, Levinson and Thompson also previously produced a Boston teamsters pilot for the network.

Breaking Boston will premiere Thursday, March 13 at 10 Pm on A&E Network, which already is home to producer Mark Wahlberg‘s family restaurant series Wahlburgers. The new docu-drama will center on four working-class women coming of age in hardscrabble Boston and was inspired by the tough, hard-as-nails female characters in Wahlberg‘s Oscar-nominated movie The Fighter. A&E ordered the pilot in November 2012 and picked up the series last May. “These are real women telling their original stories of trying to break out of what’s expected of them,” said Wahlberg who himself was raised in Boston and just earned his high school diploma at age 42. “The odds are difficult, but I believe they can make it.” The series is from 44 Blue Prods, Wahlberg’s Closest to the Hole Prods, Leverage Entertainment and Bill Thompson Prods. Wahlberg, Stephen Levison and Thompson are executive producers. Executive producers for 44 Blue are Stephanie Drachkovich and Jennifer Colbert.
