In “Boy Kills World,” Bill Skarsgård has burning eyes and model cheekbones, sinewy arms popping out of a dirty red athletic vest, and a feral pout that makes him look like Jean-Claude Van Damme crossed with Lou Reed. He plays a deaf-mute avenger, known only as Boy, who kills people in insanely violent ways. Yet through it all, the character retains his innocence. He’s a wounded wild child in a man’s body.
Raised in a mountain hideaway by a martial-arts trainer and resistance fighter called the Shaman (Yayan Ruhian), who may remind you, at first, of the Zen master in “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Boy had his past taken away from him by a vicious totalitarian regime. During the Culling, an annual ritual where law and order is maintained by having criminals confront each other in a state-sanctioned televised death match, Boy saw his little sister, Mina (Quinn Copeland...

Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.
And it is a nasty dystopian world for the preteen boy (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who is being trained in the jungle by the surly, “slave-driving” Shaman (Yayan Ruhian). And...

The ‘badass guy goes on rampage after his family and/or dog is murdered’ genre is anything but original at this point — see the John Wick franchise as one of the ultimate examples, and Dev Patel’s Monkey Man as a recent one. Director Moritz Mohr tries to put a new spin on it with Boy Kills World by transplanting the setting to a zany, capitalism-fuelled dystopia, infusing it with video-game elements, and turning the violence up to 11. Unfortunately, the result is more of a derivative, headache-inducing imitation of the revenge thriller than a fresh interpretation of it.
We’re thrust into the silent protagonist Boy’s (Bill Skarsgård) backstory immediately via booming, parodic voiceover that continues throughout the film, a way to let us into the mute character’s thoughts. His family’s deaths are depicted through flashback at the speed of light, before moving on to an epic training montage,...

Netflix’s 2023 film, Hello Ghost, chronicles the story of a down-on-his-luck man who had given up on life and could not see any reason to live or breathe anymore. Chen-wei was all alone and never had anyone to lean on. He used to work as a factory worker, but the factory was seized by the government, putting him out of his job. Moreover, he got conned by a swindler and lost all his savings. Thus, with no other option left, he attempted suicide, but his luck failed him there as well. Even after trying everything, from popping sleeping pills to tying a rope around his neck, he couldn’t die. His life takes an interesting turn following his last attempt at suicide. Chen-Wei is taken to the hospital after failing another attempt and encounters four harmless but bothersome ghosts who tend to use his body in whatever way they please.

Hardcore World of Warcraft has quickly proven to be the unlikely shot in the arm that the Mmo needed. While questions remain about WoW‘s future, it turns out that going back to the game’s past and adding a permadeath feature is even more appealing than many of the Mmorpg’s modern expansions. As Hardcore WoW‘s popularity goes, more and more people find themselves wondering which class they should play in order to survive this unique gaming experience.
Discussions about that topic recently reached a fascinating tipping point when Blizzard released a chart showing which classes have died most often in the early days of Hardcore. However, anyone with experience playing Hardcore and Classic WoW can tell you that identifying the best class in Hardcore isn’t as simple as following that chart. While I’ll expand on that point a bit later on, these were the main...

In a cinematic landscape built on tried-and-true formulas, Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World dares to be different, blurring the boundaries between absurdity and adrenaline-pumping action. Written by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers, this audacious venture is steeped in a dystopian backdrop plays by its own rules. Dive into a world where chaos meets comedy, and gory kills are an everyday thing. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, Yayan Ruhian, Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji, Brett Gelman, Jessica Rothe, and Isaiah Mustafa.
Boy Kills World begins with an animation about the Culling, a yearly tradition that kills off random members of the population started by Hilda (Janssen). Then cut to the rainy jungle where the Boy, covered in mud, crawls to the feet of Shaman (Ruhian), a man who is also in the jungle training the boy in the way of martial arts. The narrative is accompanied by his...

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
We've known since the "Yellowjackets" pilot that its leads, stranded in the Canadian wilderness during the late 1990s, would eventually resort to ritualistic hunting and cannibalism. The question is how? Season 1 consistently implied it would be the doing of Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton). Midway through the season, she began having visions and divining the will of the Wilderness itself.
The rest of the group increasingly turned to her for guidance. In "Doomcoming," Lottie wears a pair of antlers — foreshadowing the Antler Queen sitting at the head of the cannibals in the Pilot — and in the season finale, "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi," she kills a bear. The episode ends with her placing the bear's heart on an altar, with Van (Liv Hewson) and Misty (Samantha Hanratty) on either side as her disciples.
That finale is also when we learned Lottie was still alive in the present day...

Elon Musk said he was “rolling on the floor laughing my ass off” at a BBC investigation, which showed that trolling, hate speech, and disinformation have grown on Twitter since his $43B takeover.
Musk mocked the BBC website story’s headline, “Twitter can’t protect you from trolls any more,” arguing that the social network was not exactly a utopia before he took control of the company last year.
“Sorry for turning Twitter from nurturing paradise into place that has … trolls,” he tweeted with a screenshot of the article from Marianna Spring, the BBC’s disinformation and social media correspondent. He later added: “(Real article from organization calling itself bbc).”
In another post, Musk replied “literally roflmao” to Shibetoshi Nakamoto (an anonymous Twitter user with 2M followers who claims to have created Bitcoin), who said: “Before elon i Never had Anyone say anything mean to me ever. it was a beautiful utopia.

Phase 2 of Wrath of the Lich King Classic is here. With it comes the much-anticipated Ulduar raid, a few new pieces of world content, and new power rankings for WoW‘s Dps, Healer, and Tank Classes.
These class rankings are primarily based on each class’ viability in the Uduar raid as that is the main piece of Phase 2 content. to be more specific, these rankings are based on how viable a class is throughout the Ulduar raid. In other words, the classes that remain a strong option throughout the raid are ranked higher than those who either perform better at the start or end of the raid.
Finally, be sure to remember that we’re talking about an update to what is essentially a 15-year-old game.

Another speedster has raced onto The Flash: Kausar Mohammed (4400), who this Tuesday night debuted as Dr. Meena Dhawan, is set to recur on the CW series, our sister site Deadline reports.
Mohammed made her debut at the tail end of this week’s episode, in which the mysterious new Central City speedster Barry was investigating turned out to be Dr. Dhawan, a “genius” scientist whom he instantly recognized after The Flash cornered her and led her to unmask herself. Meena explained that her recently acquired superspeed was not “natural” like The Flash’s but attained using sodium nitrate cells...
