The Other Black Girl is poised to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.
Hulu dropped the official trailer for its adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris' best-selling novel on Wednesday, and it's as unsettling as expected.
"Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she's excited when Hazel is hired," the logline reads.
"But as Hazel's star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company."
It's a compelling description, and the trailer nails what the above describes, so that's a good thing.
Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais star.
The Other Black Girl is executive produced by Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Hulu released the trailer Wednesday for “The Other Black Girl,” adapted from the best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris.
The series will follow Nella (Sinclair Daniels) who joyfully leaves her loneliness behind as the only Black employee at a publishing company, Wagner Books, when Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) gets hired as an editorial assistant like Nella.
Suddenly, all of Vera’s (Bellamy Young) demands become less grueling when she can share the experience of being Black at a majority white-staffed company with Hazel — until things get weird.
“Wagner’s just … you’ll see,” Nella tells Hazel at first in the trailer you can watch above.
Right as Vera tells Nella that she is ready to recommend a promotion to assistant editor from editorial assistant for Nella, some sinister things start happening that only Nella feels like she is aware of.

Paramount Players is giving writer/director Parker Finn’s horror film Smile a theatrical release today, September 30th. Our own JimmyO has already seen the movie and gave it a 7/10 review that you can read at This Link. Check them out in the embed above.
Smile is based on Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept, which won the Special Jury Recognition Prize in SXSW’s Midnight Short category. Exclusive: Paramount Players has pulled the plug on its comedy feature Assisted Living after Cardi B backed away from the starring role, sources tell Deadline. The film was just a week away from starting production, and other cast and crew were just told the film has at least temporarily been scratched.
The $30 million film is produced by Temple Hill and was to be directed by Thembi Banks. In Assisted Living, Cardi B (Hustlers) was to play a low-level criminal on the run when she’s wrongly accused of a crime. She has to stay free long enough to prove her innocence and holes up at her grandmother’s retirement home. She fits in with the help of some old-lady prosthetics.
The reason for her pullout is that she is overextended.
This is happening in real time, and when a star pulls out of a movie this late, the exit often is followed by legal action.

Rogen executive produces with Jennifer Ray for Lylas Pictures. Bellina co-executive produces. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Adam Fishbach executive produce for Temple Hill. CBS Studios is the studio.
Bellina wrote on The CW’s iZombie, and most recently sold the feature A Wedding To Die For to Netflix, starring Roselyn Sánchez and Eric Winter.

Exclusive: Thembi Banks has signed on to direct Paramount Players’ Assisted Living starring Grammy-winner Cardi B. The original spec was penned by Kay Oyegun that Paramount bought in a competitive bidding war in the Spring of 2019. Insiders add the film is still in development.
The comedy follows Amber (Cardi B), a small time crook, who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. On the run from both the cops and her former crew, she struggles to find anyone to take her in. Running out of options, Amber disguises herself as an elderly woman and hides out in the one place no one will look – her estranged grandmother’s nursing home.
Temple Hill and Stephen “Dr” Love are producing.
Banks has been on rising star on the directing circuit cutting her teeth with several short films and this would mark her first directing job at a major studio.

In the wake of the success of the Kevin Hart feature Fatherhood on Netflix, the producers of that movie, Higher Ground and Temple Hill, are collaborating with the streaming giant once again for a new project entitled Blackout, a film & television event which will be adapted from six different Black love stories written by six different writers.
Those scribes are Dhonielle Clayton (Tiny Pretty Things), Tiffany D. Jackson (Allegedly), Nic Stone (Dear Martin), Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give), Ashley Woodfolk (The Beauty that Remains) and Nicola Yoon. Blackout is being developed as part of Higher Ground’s overall deal with Netflix.
From the perspective of 12 teens with six shots of love, Blackout takes place as a heatwave blankets New York City in darkness and causes an electric chaos. When the lights go out and people reveal hidden truths, love blossoms, friendships transform, and all possibilities take flight.

As part of a reevaluation of the streamer’s slate under its new leadership, I hear the project, produced by Paramount TV Studios, was released and put in turnaround. The series is now expected to land at ViacomCBS streaming platform, which is being rebranded as Paramount Plus. A rep for the streamer declined comment.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, (fka Grease: Rydell High) explores how Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty, and Jan came together before ruling Rydell High in their senior year.

Temple Hill Productions has signed a multiyear, first-look TV deal with Lionsgate to develop and produce scripted programming across various platforms. The two companies have previously worked together on the “Twilight” movies, “Power Rangers” and “Uncle Drew.” In addition to those films, Temple Hill has produced “Maze Runner: The Death Cure,” “Love, Simon,” “Life Itself,” “The Hate U Give,” “First Man” and “The Fault in Our Stars,” among others. But this is a deal for TV shows. On the small screen, Temple Hill is known for producing “Mr. Mercedes,” “Revenge,” “Looking for Alaska,” “The Outsider,” “Dave” and “Love, Victor.” (All of those projects were independent of Temple Hill’s ongoing partnership with Lionsgate.) The “Grease” prequel movie “Summer Lovin'” has found a new director at Paramount, “Hearts Beat Loud” and “The Hero” director Brett Haley, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Leah McKendrick wrote the script for the film that is being produced by Temple Hill and PictureStart. Haley is also taking over for John August, who was attached to direct the prequel back in 2019 when the project was first reported.
The prequel film will be inspired by the “Grease” song “Summer Nights,” in which Danny and Sandy separately tell their friends about the summer fling they shared prior to the events of the musical.

Exclusive: Paramount’s Grease prequel Summer Lovin’ is revving up its engine, with the studio tapping Brett Haley to direct the film. Leah McKendrick penned the script with Temple Hill and Picturestart producing.
The 1978 musical classic starred John Travolta as greaser Danny and Olivia Newton-John as good girl Sandy, high school teens who after having a brief summer fling come to find out they are attending the same high school. Even though they come from opposite ends of the world, the two try to make their relationship work while singing now-iconic songs that still resonate today.
One of the songs, “Summer Nights,” details the summer fling that started the relationship, and Summer Lovin will detail that fateful meeting and what followed.
Grease became a massive hit, turned Travolta into a movie star and spawned a sequel starring Michelle Pfeiffer. In 2016, the film got the “live for TV” treatment on Fox...
